THE MOST IMPORTANT BOOK FOR CLINICANS TODAY!Review Date: 2007-08-14
Honored CAMFT (California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists -)member, Dr. Marty Klein is making people angry with his newest book, America's War On Sex. And rightfully so! Upon delivering this outstanding book the AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists) Best Book of the Year Award at a sex therapist conference in June, Dr. Joy Davidson stated that she was angry while reading this book and that everyone in America, especially therapist, should be too!
Why be angry while reading Dr. Klein extremely factual, and yet at times humorous, discourse on sex in America today? Because he is right! We, all Americans, are under attack by those who want to robe us of our sexual rights, freedoms and education! In this book Dr. Klein explains with great fines how abstinence only sex education is being promoted and funded by our government despite overwhelming evidence of its failure to deliver the results it has promised, how women's rights to purchase and own vibrators are being legally denied by an increasing amount of state legislators and how sexual mis-information is deliberately being promoted in an effort to take away rights from the GLBT communities!
The anger one experiences when reading this book is not limited to sex therapists or the general public either. It is vital that all psychotherapists read and understand the issues addressed in this book. Our clients come into our offices carrying guilt and shame for engaging in healthy sexual practices after being convinced by negative myths promoted to illuminate sex from our society. They struggle with issue around parenting stemming from fear based messages about children's sexuality. HIV, unwanted pregnancy and the lack of positive sexual expression is the result. We as psychotherapist have an obligation to know the facts about sexuality, to help our clients understand them, to debunk dangerous myths and to support our client's sexual education, personal development and positive sexuality within couples. That is why I say America's War On Sex is the most important book in our field today and is a must read by all clinicians!

Not bad, but highly polarized.Review Date: 2008-06-12
Finally, nowhere in the 230 pages is there any mention of prostitution laws. Indeed prostitution, call girls, massage parlors don't even show up in the index. If laws banning the sale of sex toys deserve prominent coverage, one would think that laws against prostitution would at least earn an honorable mention. Unless one subscribes to the concept that the war on prostitutes is acceptable, that is.
I don't know the reason prostitution is left out, but it shouldn't have been. Surely, if the phrase, "your body, your choice" means anything, it gives you the right to use your god-given body as an asset to put a roof over your head and food on your table no different from a laborer, doctor, or sports star. But, beyond that, laws against prostitution sadistically deny one of humanity's most pleasurable and intimate communions to a class of people who are only likely to experience it through the services of a prostitute. That would include many handicapped people, those who have been maimed by war or accidents, those with serious birth defects, the home bound, the bed-ridden, and the just plain ugly (such as myself). If that doesn't deserve mention as part of America's War on Sex, then nothing does.

Catherine Simone's book, Awakening Through The Tears, is one that should not only be read by those who suffer from Interstitial Cystitis, but also by their family members. I am one of those "family members". My wife has been struggling with IC for the past year and we have felt as if we are totally alone. Nobody seemed to understand what it is like to live each day with IC. Simone's third book completes her series and certainly offers hope for those who have Interstitial Cystitis and to their family members. This book is a must for anyone who has IC or who knows someone who is suffering through this disease.

My thought process on beauty reorganized & re prioritized thanks to her simple, Godly devotionals. And although I do make an effort to live healthy there are occasions when I'm tempted and give in to our commercialized garbage at the store...whether it be food, body care, clothes, etc.
I went shopping the day after I read the book and bought her beauty recommendations...all of them! ...food and all :) I should also add that while you read my review note that I'm bi-racial (bl/wh) and battle dry skin everywhere and have frizzy, bushy, slightly wavy hair. :)
It's only been a couple of days but I already feel better. I feel better just knowing that I have the absolute best yet surprisingly cheapest beauty routine that money can buy, my energy is up thanks to the organic nuts and raw honey and fruit, and my hair smells FABULOUS!! I ended up buying Aubrey Organics hair products and my scalp feels wonderfully fresh (no dandruff) and my hair is silky.
I used the facial wash recipe and followed with the honey & olive oil and within hours noticed that there was less redness. My pores shrank and my skin glowed! My favorite part was that I didn't have to be sure not to get nasty soap in my mouth or eyes...I actually licked my cleanser, toner, & moisturizer and went...MMMMM, YUMMY! My tip with the olive oil is to put it on a damp face so it redistributes better and your not left with oily spots.
Her website offers even more information. You can download invitations, recipes, and tip sheets to host your own Beauty Secrets of the Bible party. Sounds like fun! I'd enjoy doing that with my church women.
Now to go get a job just to afford the essential oils...BUT, then again I would've saved myself literally hundreds of dollars last year had I used this regimen instead, making the expensive oils pennies in a bucket.
If you're like me and possess a 'thing' with the lips...RUN, don't walk, RUN to the store and get yourself her fabulous tip of Burt's Bees lip products...balms,glosses,sticks. They ROCK!

Excellent Juicing book in EVERY aspectReview Date: 2008-08-15
The recipes aren't too simple to where its like, "Duh, i know you juice lemons to make lemon juice.", but they aren't too complicated either. There is such variety in here that anyone is likely to find something that they would like. Natalie Savona even leaves helpful litle descriptions on each recpie of the juice (or smoothie) and even goes so far as to leave the vitamins in each recipie as well as a rating of 0 to 5 stars of the value it has pertaining to; energy, detoxification, immunity, skin health, and digestive health.
If you are into to juicing PICK THIS UP. I have read enough crappy reviews of other juicing books to fill this lengthy post up 100 times. Don't waste your money on anything else.

a new alternative treatmentReview Date: 2008-01-25
While the concept of this book is very alien to AMA thinkers, I have had excellent results with similar treatments that I would never have thought possible. I don't argue with results, and there is obviously a lot we still don't understand about the brain and the human body.
For those who are not satisfied with the restrictions of traditional medicine, this book explains an alternative worthy of consideration.
Body talk is light years ahead of almost any other healing modality including acupunctureReview Date: 2007-08-05
Body Talk (By John Veltheim) and Body Electronics (as taught by Douglas Morrison) are the 2 most powerful healing modalities I've come accross (along with yoga and meditation), and I've studied many, many healing techniques since chilhood.
This book is well written and teaches the basics of body talk which are easy to learn and apply.

Breaking Free from Emotional EatingReview Date: 2008-07-09
transformativeReview Date: 2008-08-26
I read Geneen's work in the middle of my eating disorder. I didn't begin using it right away because I didn't trust it. I didn't like it. I didn't think it would work. It does.
Different approaches work for different people. I think this worked for me because, deep down Geneen's philosophy is in accordance with my own. I wanted to be my own authority. I wanted it bad enough to give this a try. I didn't tell myself I had to do this forever. I didn't have blind faith. I also didn't give up on it in the first three months. I gave myself a year to decide. A year, where I promised myself I wouldn't diet. A year in which to work through every exercise I reasonably could. In addition to committing to this book, I continued seeing a therapist on a weekly basis. That helped, but this book is what ultimately gave me coping tools. I know that I was in the extreme, not everybody needs as much help as I did. I also know that distorted eating is very normal in this culture. I feel blessed to have been able to examine something so fundamental, and transform what was a problem to a benefitt. I've read all of Ms. Roth's books and enjoyed each of them. This one has a great combination of explaining and exercises to do, which is why I chose it. However, the chapters are widely divergent in terms of work. Her other book "Why Weight" appears to be the same exact work better organized, but less expository. If you are unsure if this work is for you, get "Breaking Free". If after reading through it you feel excited but overwhelmed by the work load, you may wish to try "Why Weight" as a work book.
I never review books. I chose to review this one because it was very helpful to me, and a big risk. I hope this is of some help.
