While very informative with regard to the workings of the female reproductive system, I felt that in the year 2008 it's unnecessary to do all of the temperature taking, charting, analyzing bodily fluids, etc...for pregnancy purposes. I was taken aback by some of the completely weird anecdotes (ie., the egg white story --GROSS) and felt that with the digital fertility monitors out there, you don't have to be a slave to that thermometer. As a hard working, career woman who likes to get her drink on occasionally, I like to sleep in on the weekends and would always miss the window for taking my temperature. I gladly spent the $200 for the easy monitor that fits better into my lifestyle and saves me from examining where my cervix is at any given moment.

Every woman should read this book! I am 33 years old and it took me until reading this book to understand what my body is going through each month. Thank you for explaining it in simple terms that we can understand. I can't believe they didn't tell us this in health class!

I bought this book over a year ago and reference it all the time. It is great to use when you are trying to conceive or if you are just trying to understand your cycles. I would & have recommended this book to my girlfriends.

I have found this book very helpful in getting started with the FAM method to avoid conception as an alternative to hormonal birth control methods. The author very clearly describes the fertility process and the steps to observing and charting a woman's cycle. I especially enjoyed the tone of the book, which is gently humorous and devoid of religious ideology. It really convinced me that FAM is a good method of birth control as well as an aid to conception.
The downside is a few "over the top" moments in the book. After using this method I will agree that the process of taking a temperature every day and charting fertility signs is not as inconvenient as I had originally thought, but I will not go so far as to say that "charting is a privilidge".
Overall, this book is a good start. I recommend it.

This book is incredible in its details. You get a complete picture of how each muscle is used during a certain exercise. I've never seen a book with this level of detail. Great for both men and women who lift to get a better understanding of muscles used. Includes upper and lower body diagrams!

I had hit a plato in my strength training and the CTO of my company recommended this book because it shows different way to focus on the same muscle groups. This book is very helpful and the diagrams are so detailed, also points out incorrect ways of doing exercises which helps prevent injury. I got everything that I expected out of this book! Amazing book for the value.

I used to read other sex books with my wife but she surprised me one day and bought Sex and the perfect lover by Iam... was a complete different thing all together, far far the best one I've seen. It's simply Amazing. My wife seduces me with the techniques in the book and I please her through the advice in the book. A reference book for your bedside table we have learn how to have fun and intimacy together, without just merely have sex put us on ground now. We have learnt how to have fun and intimacy together, without just merely making love.

M. Iam seriously addresses intimacy issues and provides a step-by-step deep relationship-nourishing format that begins with the art of exploring the pleasures of the Kama sutra from the vantage point of the couple's balanced physical, mental and emotional energy. Wow. this is the perfect book for busy, active people who want to keep their sex life alive, but who don't have time to spend learning. When I thought there were not any more sex "techniques" I could learn from a book, this book just amazed me. This book just transformed my sex and it is never going to be better than after reading it. I've read my share of sex books but this one is very informative, gives great advises and covers many areas of relationships that are not covered in other books.

I have read many relationship books and this is clearly the best. It is so easy to read and offers a lot of practical guidance. Love this book, it is much better than I expected and exactly what my husband and I needed to help us build good foundation for our relationship and to get to know each other better and better.
I would suggest that anyone even thinking about getting married read this with their significant other first!
We are no where near a "perfect lover " but with the tools in this book I can honestly say that we are closer.
It gave me a lot of insight and calmed my fears about sex and relationships. My husband and I have referenced it many times and given it away as gifts.

I have to admit, the only reason I chose this book was because of the 240+ rave reviews here at amazon. How could 99% of the reviewing public be wrong, right? Well take it from me, whoever translated this book into english (it was originally written in another language) did a pretty shabby job, unless their goal was to suck the life out of every paragraph. It is thoroughly boring, utterly useless and embarrassingly void of anything that anyone could apply to their sex life. I guarantee you 110% that you will be disappointed with this book, and after reading it you'll be looking somewhere else for the answers you were seeking. This was my first foray into a "better sex" book, and I most definitely made the wrong choice.
The chapters are so short, they feel like you're reading an outline. There is no content. There is so much filler in this book, you start to catch on by about page 50 that you're going absolutely nowhere -- page after page, chapter after chapter. She mentions some interesting ideas and concepts, but never once does she show any hint of knowledge or expertise in this subject area. Her solution to EVERYTHING is that with proper practice and techniques, you too can achieve an explosive orgasm -- but she tells you absolutely nothing about how to do anything. It's so ridiculous I was laughing out loud by chapter 10. Really, this book is a complete waste and joke.

This book makes sense out of an illness that seems to have no rhyme or reason. I suspect I am the typical migraine sufferer who has "tried everything." Despite my treatment by dozens of very well-trained physicians, I have never been able to prevent my migraines from coming (always once a month with my period) or to manage them when they do (too often I end up in the ER with a $2,000 bill since my migraines are a "pre-existing" condition not covered by Blue Cross).
This book clearly outlines the way migraine triggers accumulate, the rebound effects of most every drug I've ever used, and the importance of getting everything that could be causing or perpetuating migraines out of your system before trying preventive medications. After reading "Heal Your Headache," I realize how non-systematic my treatment approaches have been. I was elimiating some foods I knew about (e.g. red wine) but not others (e.g. peanut butter), and taking preventive medicines while also using rebound-causing triptans -- no wonder nothing was working!
I am only 4 weeks into my approach of eliminating all triggers and rebound-causing drugs, but already I notice a difference in the frequency and severity of my headaches. I am hopeful that I may finally be on the right track. I wish I had the information in this book when I had my first migraine as a freshman in college. My husband is a physician, and he agrees that we have learned more from this easy-to-read book than we have learned from our own research and numerous physician visits over many years.

If you think you are the only one who feels crazy telling your friends about your "headaches" (which is what they hear) and food associated with them, you're not! This book not only confims that, but helps you understand why you get them (even if you are like me and thought you already knew everything there was to know)and who in your family you probably inherited this little gift from! After years of listening to my dad say he doesn't get migraines, just "terrible sinus headaches that never go away with decongestants", I finally sent him this book. He is finally almost migraine free...he in turn gave it to a neighbor! Best money I have ever spent!
I Learned a Few Things about Myself and My Migraines

Just a little about ME and MY migraines. By providing this, I hope to be able to share my experience with other ladies suffering the same pain. I had hoped that others would mention the types of migraines they suffered, but I didn't see many such reviews.
I am a woman in my mid 30s and suffer two types of migraine. The first happened when I was about 20 years old - at the Right Temple. The next happened about 6 years later - behind my Left Eye.
Like most of you, I have tried numerous drugs too. I also tried chiropractic adjustments, but they were not the answer.
Before the diet, I only took Zomig to abort the migraines. Since being on the diet, I have better managed my Zomig intake (only taking it once during the two months because I didn't want to give up another weekend). I still had my usual 2 to 3 migraines a month, but many of them I just tried to sleep off (which is never easy) and lose 1 or 2 days.

I followed the diet to the letter for two-and-a-half months. I learned that it was NOT the food that I ate that caused MY migraines, but it seems to be my hormones. I noticed I am extremely sensitive to smells about 3 or 4 days before the start of my period and I usually get a Right Temple migraine about 7 to 10 days before my period.
I haven't quite figured out what brings on the Left Eye migraines. My thoughts always return to the weather. I try not to go to bed with wet hair, as I think this contributes to it too. I do notice a pattern of them as my period ends. I also notice I get another Right Temple migraine as my period is ending.
I journaled my diet for the entire time. I kept track of any sensations I felt in my head as well as stressors and my menses.
I truly believe that any foods that may cause problems (FOR ME) are only triggers COMBINED with other triggers such as odors (perfume, cigrette smoke, Clorox wipes, etc.), stress, and hormones.
I learned to read food labels quite well and, what I will take from this is that I will avoid MSG and MSG causing agents whenever possible. I will watch my nitrite/nitrate intake (not that I was ever a big consumer of it) as well as some of the other fruits/vegetables on the list. Again, I have never been a big consumer of anything - everything in moderation. However, maybe bananas are not the greatest for me. (My husband is Type 1 Diabetic so we do not usually have them around). I will also try not to buy processed foods as much as possible.
I will stay off caffeine until I have my first child, but I really do not think it has an effect on ME. I was only a 1 or 2 caffeinated beverage consumer a day anyway. I think I might go to decaffeinated rather than caffeinated because I just do not think I need it.
After I have a child, I think I will go back on a preventative because I remember having very good success with amytriptyline when I first started having them. For obvious reasons, I do not want to start on drugs only to have to come off them when I get pregnant.
For now, I am beginning to come off the diet. I will resume my Zomig when I know I cannot be pregnant, but I think I will pay more attention to the sensations in my head and not leap to take one for fear of a migraine. I think I did this too many times when I could have dealt with the pain.
What I really liked about the book was that the author made me aware of food labels and that he listed the medications. I really learned a lot about my own body too.
What I didn't like was eating the same foods (my choice). I made the best of what I could eat and I would do it again because it was worth it to find out, once and for all, if food was my problem.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I absolutely hate it when you mention you have migraines and you are told you should avoid citrus, chocolate, red wine, and aged cheese. We all know this! We learned it day 1 of Migraine 101. Oh well. :-)

When I first read this book, I was overwhelmed by the proposed plan to eliminate so many things from my life. The dietary restrictions alone were obscene! But I have struggled with headaches for years and they had become such a big problem that I was afraid to take on new responsibilities. This was certainly a red flag that I needed help. I tried to eliminate caffeine first which was a big problem for me. After a big headache came on after the first day, I chickened out and went back to my regular tea-consuming routine. I thought the book was masochistic and I was ready to abandon the 1-2-3 step plan. But then I thought about something else the book said which was that women who are on hormonal contraception should eliminate that to see if it has an effect. So I did, and now I am virtually headache free. I feel so foolish because for many years I just assumed that I needed birth control to "tame" my headaches by giving me a consistent flow of hormones, rather than letting my body go wild and fluctuate each month. So to make a long story short, this book was VERY helpful to me, but I didn't end up needing to do the full program because with one step, I was able to get my headaches under control, at least for now (I don't want to jinx myself!)
This book also had many helpful anecdotes, many of which I could relate to. Every individual's body is different and the author's description of the threshold for migraine is a useful framework for understanding how headaches work and how other external factors contribute. I think there is something for everyone in this book and it is certainly priced affordably enough to give it a shot. Any migraine sufferer knows that at times you will try ANYTHING to get better. This plan, while daunting at first, could change your life.

I love this book so much!!! It is full of positive birth stories, which is something that is really not that common in the US. The women acknowledge the hurdles of labors, but have a constant positive understanding of what is happening to their bodies. I would recommend this book to any pregnant mama or papa. My husband also enjoyed some of the stories I shared with him.

The first half of this book is just short birthing stories--which becomes very tedious to read straight through. The stories are interesting but completely anecdotal. The second half of the book gives very generalized information on natural birth. Despite being a physician myself at a university based practice, I thoroughly believe in the power of natural childbirth. This book is encouraging but honestly not really adequate in terms of the practical information. I give it 5 stars in terms of illustrating and reassuring that natural childbirth can be accomplished safely...but again only 3 stars if you are looking for a true guide to giving birth naturally.

I have read countless books on pregnancy & childbirth but have never enjoyed one quite as much as this one. It was extremely informational, encouraging and empowering to any woman who has been previously convinced by society and the US medical system that her body is somehow broken and incapable of NORMAL birth. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Excellent!!

don't read the crap that OB's and doctors are handing out telling women that if their labor doesn't fit nicely into their schedule and goes according to a generic time limit they'll have to have a c-section. giving birth is an empowering experience that can be ENJOYED and NOT FEARED. ina may helps inform you of the possibilities in childbirth so you can explore your options and also know what to expect. fast, easy reading.

Even if giving birth outside a hospital just doesn't seem like you (or me), keep reading this book. Ina May's "Guide" is well written, with interesting history, and aware of today's trends. Every woman and birth is different, and every woman in this book is capable of more than you (or often she) can imagine. The first half of the book is birth stories- and the second half is Ina May's detailed explanation of the birth process and options. Now I know exactly why my own labor "failed to progress" -I was scared! And each of my secret fears were addressed in this book. Learn what a good midwife could do for you and what your body really could be capable of when you believe in yourself. I wish I had read this book during my first pregnancy!! Women centered birth makes so much sense- but change isn't going to come from the midwives- change can only happen when mothers make that choice. We mothers need to become aware that we always have options- knowledge overcomes fear. Ina May is an experienced and well-spoken midwife who reached through the pages to make a difference to me.

A very good but emotional read. I highly recommend it, and also recommend picking up a copy of The Tiger's Child, which is the continuation of Sheila's story.

I read this book back in 2002 and 2003 while I was training for my first marathon. I just pulled it out and started reading it again recently and it is such a great book. Full of information and motivation to help with marathon training. I wish I would have gone to a college that offered a marathon class!

I am a physical therapist who also enjoys (???) running. This past Fall, I finished my 2nd marathon in Appleton, WI. My first was Grandma's in Duluth, MN in 2002 (before children). This second marathon I used the same program but had to add the walk to run progarm in also as I had a one year old and a two year old at home now! I was not quite in the same shape I had been for the previous marathon. The program is wonderfully flexible with only 4 days of training a week. I printed the small schedule in the front chapter up and used to mark off my runs. Reading the chapters a second time still was important to train the mental endurance. As a therapist, I really love the stressing of completion and not speed. Reading each chapter a week helps to mentally prepare for the runs and stay focused on the weekly runs and the marathon itself. It is such an accomplishment to complete the race that setting time goals should only be broad- I'll finish in under 7 hours. I would be very interested in reading the women's book but would love them to write another book for 'subsequent' marathoners. The issues of mental endurance, life balance, and aging bodies would be good additional chapters to write about.
I have used the walk to run program for many of my patients who want to return to their prior level of running after injury with very good results. If you are even thinking of just getting into running this book is a great book and you may just decide 'why not try the marathon'.

Bought this book to start training for the Chicago Marathon. I am 50 years old and have never run a marathon. It is a week-by-week training guide that essentially guarantees that you will be able to finish the marathon if you follow their plan. The book is very easy reading. The chapters are written to read for each week of training. Works with your physical and psychological potential obstacles for completion of the marathon. So far, so good. I'll let you know whether it delivers after October 12, 2008!

This is a MUST HAVE for every parent in order to make an educated decision on the vaccination of your children. If you are contemplating no-vaccination, delayed vaccination schedule, selective vaccination schedule or the regular full vaccination schedule, you must read this book to make your decision in good conscience with all the facts. This is a very controversial subject as many people do not want the responsibility of choice and would prefer to blindly the doctor's advise. The problem is... the doctor typically blindly follows the FDA's advise and the FDA has not fully diligently tested everything that gets injected in our little ones!

All parents should read this book before they allow their babies to be vaccinated. It's your duty as a parent to be informed about what is being injected into your babies body. Ask questions and be involved.

I'd just like to echo what other reviewers have said. This book is the real deal. I originally got a book on immunization called "Vaccines: What Ever Parent Should Know" because Dr. Sears book was sold out and checked out of every library branch in the greater Boston area. What a joke that other book was - it presented none of the concerns that Dr. Sears shares. And after a bit of research, I found that the author of that book (Dr. Paul Offit) is a vaccine inventor and on the board of advisors for Merck. You'd think in the spirit of fair disclosure it would have said that on his author's profile. But I digest... :)
Dr. Sears' book is comprehensive and very balanced. He presents parents with the pros and cons for each drug as well as his own personal recommendations. His Alternative and Selective vacination schedules are worth the price of the book alone. Just be prepared - we requested to follow his selective vaccination schedule and were told that we could stay with our pediatric group practice if we did that. Its too bad - we really liked our pediatrician in every other respect. Just starting with a new practice that is more flexible and gives us a greater degree of choice in how we care for our child.
Couldn't recommend this book more highly. I'm buying a second copy for the pediatrician we are leaving. Hopefully, she'll read it and understand our decision a bit better.

So if you're like me with an autistic child, no doubt you have heard the hype. Vaccines. Are they the culprit? Some parents swear yes, some swear no. I have heard both sides and they both have very valid arguments. Both biased to their own cause. Then came my baby daughter. Do I vaccinate her or not? Diseases are coming back due to parents not vaccinating. But what about all the press? Is there a safer way to vaccinate? There is! Dr. Sears alternative schedule is clear, easy to understand and my daughter's pediatrician not only had no problem with it, but wanted to get the book for herself. It's a great reference guide too.

This is a very comprehensive book on personal protection. It is far broader than a street self defense manual. It covers all kinds of self defense and safety issues.
It is very broad in its scope. Here are a few of the areas it addresses: street self defense, fire safety, mobs, traveling in strange cities, online shopping, and much more. As you can see, it is far reaching.
Prior to reading this, I never would have guessed that an author could cover such a broad range so well in such a relatively small book.

I highly recommend this book on all levels. As a martial artist who has done many martial arts, I have to say, this information really rings true. For example, he states, the goal of self-defense should be to "stun and run" - which almost anyone who knows the field will tell you. For example, where I train, we "stay and commit", but most of us are pretty highly trained. I have also done some of the "military martial arts" that Tom describes, and to be honest, in a "bad" situtation that I can't talk my way out of, i count on it to save my life, and I have been trained to "fight through the adrenaline dump" by the Israelis I trained with. But I also realize, most people don't have time to do that kind of training. So Tom's program is really useable for people who don't want to become experts in the martial arts. His book is full of lots of information that can literally save your life (for instance, have a map before you visit a new city, etc.). The book is full of anecdotes of personal protection. I particularly liked his advice on using your eyes to scan a room, and how to confront a "bad guy" who is sizing you up (you basically stare through him to let him know you are not afraid). A lot of his advice comes down to projecting confidence and not being a "victim", becuase universally, bad guys go after people whose body language, eyes, and positure suggest that they are not willing to defend themselves. So this is an excellent book on personal protection that I would highly recommend to anyone, from the beginning to the true pro.

I read lots of books like this, and I found absolutely nothing new in here. In fact, it looked a bit familiar. With the checklists, the boxed tips, the statistics and the vignettes, it looked an awful lot to me like Be Alert, Be Aware, Have A Plan: The Complete Guide to Protecting Yourself, Your Home, Your Family, by Neal Rawls. Really, it looks like Patire got his whole idea on how to present his material from the Be Alert book (which, by the way, was a much much better book). I say don't bother.

We hired Tom Patire to speak at our annual PTA event here in Chicago. I was on the committee that sought him out after I read his book and saw him on Fox. The book is an updated look into safety and has some similarities of other books in this catergory but it is written in much different, more people friendly format.
Tom takes the approach of easing the reader into different safety issues by relating them to factual events in his life. Because of that the book reads life a story of safety and not like a book of boring statistics. I loved the Tom's Tips but really was intrigued to his child safety training since I am a single mother of two young girls.
What really hit home was how Tom talks about 'seeing from their eyes' and their being the children of the world. The book can be used in different ways. For example it can be used as a guide to safety issues like when you travel or safety at home. It can also be used as a call to urgency because safety is usually not a subject that we like to think about or address.
It gets even better should you attend Tom's talk. Tom is a big, in-shape, charismatic guy that has a empowering way of getting you involved in his lecture which he calls 'Safer Life!' From his opening statement to his closing remarks Tom's becomes the big brother that we all wish we had and presents safety with out installing fear.
I gave his book 5 stars as I did Gavin DeBecker's book. But Patire's talk is the missing piece to the safety puzzle. It's one I would recommend for all people, especially single mom's to attend.

A family from my town in Wisconsin recently appeared on the Montel Show. Watching the show one had to feel for the terrible ordeal that the family went through during their violent home invasion. At the end of the show Montel brought out a security expert named Tom Patire. Mr. Patire's comments were for everyday people and his tone and way of speaking showed his compasion for human life and left me feeling empowered. This led me to buy his book. The book is beter than good - it is excellent. It's for all ages from teens to seniors and is filled with unlimted, priceless information on how to keep you and the people you love, safe. Montel open my eyes to what can happen and Tom Patire gave me the information on how not to let it happen or what to do if.

What a perfect book at the most perfect time. I was skimming bookshelves and thought..."this looks good, give it a try". My intuition was right on. Dr. Judith Orloff presents in a very easy to understand and conveyed way multiple ways to promote positive energy. She is unique in her approach and dares to enter the world of sexuality for which I truly applaud her. It was such an easy and enjoyable read and I actually feel better for it. Being a therapist myself I know that I will use some of her techniques with my clients and most definitely with myself.

With the knowledge gained from this book, I can confidently tell you the day I ovulate, precisely how many days from then my period should arrive, and I can connect "strange" bodily occurances with my cycle! I know exactly what is normal for my body so I would be able to detect the slightest abnormality that could indicate a problem long before my annual exam.
Additionally, this information can help me and the doctor with accurate pregnancy information. I know that since I have a longer than "average" cycle - I ovulate on day 21 usually so my cycle is 35 days long - a due date that the doctor calculates (which is based on a 28 day cycle) is WRONG for me!
