I don't care what kind of advice you're looking for -- whether you're trying to fix a romance, a summer job, or a problem
at school -- this book has got something helpful to say. Carol Weston herself is terrific -- practical and funny -- but the
book also insludes quotes and advice from a lot of other people, too -- famous writers, artists, thinkers. It's a lot better
than just hearing your best friend, for the tenth time, tell you the same old things. A definite recommend!

FOR TEENS ONLY is so good!... Whenever I get depressed or frustrated, I read a few pages and start feeling better. I guess
that's because she seems like a real person (well, obviously she is) and because all the quotes seem to be talking right to
me. My brother has been reading it too and he doesn't usually read books like this. But her advice make sense and isn't preachy.
It's funny and inspiring. I recommend this book to all middle school and high school students. It REALLY explains everything,
from how to tell if your crush likes you to when to use "it's" and "its"(which I now finally get)! And if you ever need a
quote for a yearbook or paper, it has 580! FOR TEENS ONLY IS A GREAT BOOK!! FIVE STARS AT LEAST!...

I heard Carol Weston speak a few years ago and a father in the audience
asked, "Why don't you write a book for guys?" So it was great to realize that she
did it and I like this book as much as For Girls Only and Girltalk. It's got
her signature great advice and more quotes than ever.

This is the best make your own baby food book I've found! I purchased several other books (Simply Natural Baby Food, The
Well Fed Baby, Organic Baby and Toddler Cookbook and The Petit Appetit Cookbook to name a few)but most barely mention infants
and start with older babies. I wanted to know exactly when to start my three month old on baby food and what foods were appropriate
at what age. This book gives you that in a simple, straight forward easy to follow manner. I can't recommend this enough.
It's a perfect book to start with. They also combine this book in a kit that includes the food trays needed and a how to
video. It's under a different name and is called the So Easy Baby Food Kit.

I am not a decent cook ,and even I figured out how to do this. I've used my food processor more in the past month than I ever
have in my whole life. Recipes are very easy and there are some suggestions for "medleys", even using tofu and other items
I wouldn't have thought of. Everything tastes delicious--I have no problem actually tasting the food before serving. Also
we've found making our own food is much cheaper than buying jars (plus, we have twins.) When I tell people we make our own,
they usually say we must be crazy or an "earth mother"--really it is very easy, tasty, and cheap. This book does not have
recipes for toddler foods, only pureed baby foods.

This book is the best baby food resource I have found. It makes preparing foods so quick and easy. The recipes are divided
by age range (4-6 mos, 6-8 mos. etc) and within the age range each food is given a page. Not only does it include recipes,
but also includes variations with appropriate ages and other foods that can be combined with this food and appropriate ages.
It is such a great reference. Furthermore, I had a question about one of the recipes and e-mailed the address in the front
of the book. Within a few hours I had a response from one of the authors - I was very impressed. I have several books on
baby food and this one is the easiest to read and use -if you're only going to buy one, this should be it!

spelling out just what the children of today need to become the healthy adults of the future. Please read it, for your children's

I was looking for a book that I could share with my four year old niece, and found this great book about Germs! My niece
absolutely LOVES it! She giggles every time you say some of the germ names while reading the book. She asked everyone to
read it to her over and over and over during my weekend visit. She couldn't get enough of it. And it's educational, which
her Mom, the school teacher, loves. I would highly recommend.

We first got this book from our local Library because of the awesome pictures but after reading it knew it had to be one we
added to our personal collection! Any time my 6 year old starts feeling sick, we pull this book out and it comforts him.
He learned how his body's defences fight off the bug that gets inside him. We then discuss how the germ might have gotten
into his body, and exactly how it comes out. Now that he can put a visual representation on what is going on, he is a bit
more comfortable with being sick. I really LOVE this book!
Perfect for inquiring young minds!

When I saw this book didn't yet have a customer review, I felt compelled to correct the injustice. I purchased this book
for my four-year-old niece and it has remained one of her absolute favorites for over a year now. Granted, she is a "just
the facts, ma'am" sort of kid -- very interested in how things work, especially the human body. With space-age detail, Germs
tells the story of Pox, a student at germ academy (along with roommates Pus, Snot, and Rash) who is learning how to make people
sick. Not happy with his mission, Pox is sent to infect a little girl named Myrtle. When confronted with her white blood
cells (an army of mini versions of Myrtle herself), Pox decides to make friends instead and opt for a non-infecting life of
leisure inside Myrtle's body. While instructive about how we get sick, the book also is empowering in teaching about our
immune systems. The pastel color palette has a retro feel, and the germs are cartoonishly gross -- perfect for kids who love
to say "Ewww!" -- and yet Pox is adorably cuddly and cute. I highly recommend this book for any science-minded children out
there.

I bought this book for my 2 1/2 year old and it quickly became his favorite book.
Now when it's time to wash his hands he tells me! He is always telling me "Germs are not for sharing." He also asks me for a tissue when he needs one and has stopped eating food that has hit the floor.
I think the charm of this book is the fact that it uses words like Achoo, Cough, Gurgle, Flush -- that I can say in a way that really gets his attention.
2 Thumbs up!

Simple and to the point. Great book for the very young child on what to do when you sneeze, blow your nose, etc. It isn't
a book about "just washing hands", it covers more than washing hands and opens up the opportunity to discuss when and where
we find germs. Wonderful illustrations - bright and colorful.

I would recommend this book as a gentle introduction to Barry Neil Kaufman's philosophy of life. Each chapter tells the story
of one of Kaufman's young clients and records Kaufman's conversations with the person over different sessions, as the person
gradually opens up towards happiness. In the course of the book you get a very nice overview of Kaufman's philosophy, by
example rather than having it explained to you word for word. Definitely a moving book too. If you want an actual Kaufman
philosophy book, try To Love is To Be Happy With.

Child HAPPY READ ~~~ recommended ~~~ 4 stars
Mama tells her daughter to Giddy Up. With so much to do it is going to be a busy day. Mama's little gap toothed Cowgirl is single-minded in her efforts to be helpful. A high-spirited little girl who makes up with a super big imagination what she lacks in prowess; Cowgirl tends to have problems now and then. With her 10-pint hat set firmly in place, and filled with enthusiasm she and her plush armadillo are always ready to help.
So, she sings to make up for the broken car radio, locates Mama's missing wallet, she is entrusted with the grocery list at the store, and wants to help by mailing mom's letters. When she needs help she asks a biker dude for aid, she joins in filling the shopping basket and offers to help carry the bags of groceries, she helps take dirty clothes into the cleaner's for Mama and she hurries to open the car door for Mama.
A down cast little Cowgirl is deflated when she drops the clothes needing cleaning, realizes she forgot she must never speak to strangers, loses the list to a gust of wind and then puts all the wrong stuff in the basket, and drops the envelopes all over the sidewalk.
Mama restores confidence in her dejected assistant: Your momma loves you because you always try
Cowgirl talks the talk with lots of lingo such as Saddle up, Ol' Jim and Yippeee Yi Yeeee. Yippee Yi Yo She is truly a cowgirl.
My resident critics settled in for reading on the rug with expectant expressions brightening their faces. The cover of Giddy Up Cowgirl caught the attention of fourteen little people immediately. Declarations of Yee Haw and Tarnation soon had the kids giggling with delight as I read.
Mercer Mayer's Little Critter and his exuberant trying to help Mama came to mind immediately while reading Giddy Up Cowgirl. The kids agree both Little Critter and Cowgirl are a whole lot like me, sometimes I drop things too.
I liked the opportunity for discussion offered as I closed the book at the end of the reading; the kids talked about some of their own mishaps, and we talked about why little people might have problems now and then and that Mamas do continue to love them in spite of it all.
The kids agree; it is good to keep trying and not give up. Because we get better at doing stuff, if we keep trying.
Giddy Up Cowgirl is quickly becoming a class favorite in Mrs. M's room, Osage County, Oklahoma. The book is chosen for free time reading and for taking to read during DEAR time as we Drop Everything And Read.
Author/Illustrator Krosoczka's images used to exemplify what was taking place in the narrative receive twenty eight thumbs up. The kids expressed interest in how he had created his illustrations. They like the textured appearance using dark and light colors.
I do tend to like more low key illustrations, however I too like the images used by Author/Illustrator Krosoczka; while they are full of color and activity and fun, they do not overwhelm the narrative or the children as they follow the tale being read.
Writer Krosoczka has done a first-rate job in portraying situations that both children and adults will understand, relate to and find amusing. The bubbly heroine with her colorful lingo, enthusiasm and predictable childhood upsets is a treat.
Child pleasing vocabulary, a narrative peppered with cowgirl drawl and illustrations that add humor and tenderness to the tale have been used to create a nice addition to the classroom library. Giddy Up Cowgirl is a good choice for the personal reading shelf of little people, as well as the classroom, school and public library catalog. Happy to recommend.

Giddy Up, Cowgirl was fun to read for myself as well as with my daughter. WE loved the images as well as the story. Considering
the `story time' with her a success I took the book to my class the next day.
As I read to my class of 20 five year-olds I could see they clearly related to the story as well. They were engrossed in the moments the little girl experienced. They wanted to see what would happen after the grocery-shopping list blew away in the wind or when the eggs were spilled. (As a mother I especially appreciated the dialogue of love and patience that occurred after the eggs spilled.)
So, after loud declarations of "YeeHaw!" and "Tarnations!" my class and I agreed Giddy Up, Cowgirl is a "thumbs up"!
Some of the comments from my class were:
"I liked it when she shopped for the groceries! Yeah! It was funny!"
"I want to ride her horse! I liked her horse."
"She kept trying. I like it 'cause she kept trying."
"I really liked it when her mommy gave her a hug." (My personal favorite as well.)
After reading and discussing the book we all agreed that we would try our best to help each other out just as the little girl did.
It is wonderful to find a book that I can share with my daughter and read to my class knowing they would connect with the characters and context. The story teaches us to keep trying and it positively reinforced being helpful.
Keep up the good work Mr. Krosoczka (pronounced Crow-ZAH-ska)! We're looking forward to your next book.

You know hit on a great new kids' writer when his books include such offbeat titles as "Bubble Bath Pirates" and "Punk Farm."
Now, I'm a sucker for toddler and youth books about pirates and cowgirl (not to mentionfarm punks), and author/illustrator
Krosoczka has a winning storyline, eye-catching illustrations, and lots of humorous miscues in "Giddy Up, Cowgirl."
Neither rural or urban, this cowgirl's as suburban as a station wagon. However, her mind is on the range, full of expressions such as "YEE HAW!" "Saddle up, Ol' Jim! and the venerable "Yippeee Yi YEEEE! Yippee Yi Yo!" (Some Western dialects render that "Yi" as "Ki," but that must originate from a different suburb. "Cowgirl" accompanies When Momma invites "Cowgirl" to help her with some errands, Cowgirl is especially excited; after all, real cowgirls love helping. Unfortunately, Cowgirl's good-hearted intentions exceed her capabilities. Although she finds Momma's wallet beneath the feet of a rough looking feller in the bank, Cowgirl's help inadvertently results in letters flying about the sidewalk, dropped dirty clothes at the cleaners, and a lost grocery list ("Don't worry, Momma, I remember EVERYTHING on that list.") When a dozen eggs spill out onto the parking lot, Momma has already just about lost her patience, and Cowgirl has tears in her big round eyes.
This brings us to the dramatic climax: Momma giving her girl a great big hug, and reassuring her that "Accidents can happen, Cowgirl. Jusat remember, your momma loves you...because you always try." Awww. Any girl (or boy) will love that message. The kicker happens on the next page: Cowgirl opens the door of their SUV--just as a small hatchback drives by. "CRASH!" This last spread is somewhat jarring if taken too seriously, but provides a nice closing laugh. Krosoczka's applies thick, often textured-looking dark and light colors, with a director's combination of closeups and longer, establishing shots. In the peril fraught land of kids' picture books, this young author is definitely home on the range.

Another great hit for mercer mayer. This is also a good book to teach children that eating correctly and excercise is not
only good for you but fun.

This is a wonderful story with excellent illustrations. (look for that spider & mouse) It explains to little ones why it's
important to eat healthy and that you don't need to WIN every competition....just have fun.

I am a fan of the Little Critter Series for my two year old and this is one of the most positive storylines. In this age of
childhood obesity, this is a great book for our kids. The book starts with Little Critter's question, "Why are carrots better
for me than cookies?" The teacher replies, "Because carrots have vitamins to help you grow. Cookies just taste good." From
there Little Critter engages his family and friends to a healthy lifestyle of eating good foods and fun exercise.
Take a look at some of my other Little Critter favorites: All By Myself, The New Baby, Just Me and My Dad, Just a Snowman, Just a New Neighbor and Me Too.
