I recently purchased this book for my 2-year-old son. While he is too young to be asking questions about where he came from, this is a great starter book on the subject. We are expecting our second child, and our son knows that Mommy has a baby in her belly. What I like most about Joanna Cole's book is that she uses accurate, yet simple, terminology, and gives accurate information without going into too much detail. This is a great tool to help provide that first awareness of where babies come from. Now our son is beginning to understand that at one time, Mommy carried him in her belly, too. A great choice for even the youngest toddlers!!

Great book for pre-school age children who are curious about being "inside mommy" but who do not need a lot of information yet. This book was the perfect first book for my 4 year son who has been asking questions.

This book is such a great way for preschoolers to learn where they came from and gives parents a way to tell their child's birth story. We interject specific happenings from our son's birth story and he just loves it. It was the perfect book to read to our oldest son when we were pregnant with our second child as it helped him understand the process of what was happening/going to happen now that there was another baby inside of mommy. He was only 2 years old and he comprehended it all through the simple language and adorable pictures! Perfect book!

Joanna Cole (I Am a Big Brother, I Am a Big Sister) has created yet another great book for sharing with young children. Directly addressing toddlers and preschool age children, Cole tells about pregnancy and childbirth. Using terms such as uterus, umbilical cord, and breast, and with illustrations of a child inside the womb, Cole and Chambliss have created a wonderful book for parents to share with very, young children, especially when a new baby is expected. Additional information on answering children's questions about birth is provided at the back of the book.

I loved this book because it made sense. It told about Helen Keller's life and as a blind and deaf kid and adult . It also told about where she went to school and about the places she went .It told about who taught Helen how to read and write and talk! I also liked this book because it was hard to put it down when I had to go somewhere. This book also told about her little sister and how Helen got sick and turned blind and deaf and how her teacher died. This book was great! You should read it.

Wonderful introduction to biographies for the early reader set (6-10 yrs old, depending on reading ability). It provides enough info to be useful, but not so much that the child is bogged down and loses interest. The series is fabulous.

As a teacher of fourth grade, I have found this series to be indispensable when it comes to having my students create their biography pizzas. The information is presented in an easy to read format and contains pictures throughout. When I think back to my days in school, I always found biography books dry and dull. The authors of this series manage to present the information in an engaging manner. I often have children who read more in the series after their project is finished.

I bought these books (Who's Making That Mess/Smell/Noise) for my then 18 month old son for Christmas. At first we would read the story and lift the flaps to see what was there. Now he loves to look for the semi-hidden yellow duck and white mouse on each page. As soon as he masters that, we can go through each page and find the item that the critter under each flap was looking for to make such a mess. This book has kept him entertained for a month so far and there is still room to grow. I highly recommend these books.

My two year old absolutely adored this book, and we had to read it hundreds of times. It includes two of his favorite elements - lifting a flap and finding something hidden - and it is well written enough to keep adults charmed throughout countless re-readings.

A great book for discussion with young children.

You have to guess who is making the mess on each page by lifting the flap, then you have to find their missing article from the mess on the page. This is a great book for discussion and observation skills. Suitable for children 3-6 years, and early readers 6+. Includes lots of repetition

Willie's Wagon is a touching story that causes children to think of others instead of only themselves. Willie learns that not everything has to be "boring" and life is often better experienced when we share our time and talents with others.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R27TYCTHLQ40RT Willie's Wagon is a story about a little boy who makes a big difference in the lives of some very sick kids. This story inspired my students to think of ways that they can make a difference to someone in their lives. Instead of watching tv or playing video games after school, one student wrote that he could help an elderly neighbor pick up her yard. Willie's Wagon teaches kids that their actions can have a positive effect on the lives of others and themselves. Gary came to our school to talk to the kids about reading and writing. We can't wait to read Gary Metevier's next book!!!

My children have experienced the loss of loved ones and classmates due to cancer. The first time was a third grader and the most recent a high school sophmore. The author has found a way to relate to the real struggles of a younger child and his frustrations in life and turn them into positive and caring action. My nephew has volunteered at the cancer camp in Iowa City that benefits from the sales of this book. It changed his life enough for him to enroll in medical school with aspirations to become a pediatrician. Great book, great cause. Your purchase of this book will not be regretted.

Cancer is never easy. But when a child's life is changed by the disease, it is often hard to make sense of in a young mind. Gary Metivier has provided a wonderful vehicle for parents who need to help a youthful mind understand what cancer is.

Through the touching tale of Willie and his compassion for a schoolmate, the author teaches us how cancer can change the lives of young people and how kindness can also provide healing.

This story is a great read for kids and adults and a great way for parents to bring some understanding to a difficult subject for young people. If your life and the lives of young people around you have unfortunately been touched by cancer in some way, I strongly recommend this book.

This is an ideal book for mom or dad to read to their little one. The illustrations are great and quite eye catching. The book is entirely about love, love between parent and child and that is a good theme to read about with any child. The text is simple to understand and goes quite well with the illustrations. This is a great bed time story book or setting under a tree book for you and your young ones. Recommend this one highly.

This book has so many elements children love: pictures of animals, a birthday party, a birthday cake (my 2-yr-old loves pictures of birthday cakes!), kisses, friends, etc. It tells children about different kinds of kisses (morning kisses, goodbye kisses, etc), and it has cute illustrations to go with it. The cute illustrations have details that my daughter loves to point out and name, and the colors are good. We like this book and recommend it to others.

Want a great way to teach your children skills that will last into adulthood while creating fun family memories? This book is it! Focusing on the positives in our lives is a wonderful habit we can instill in our children. What a great reminder for us adults as well! I have used this book with children and adults alike as I work to educate child care practitioners. Everyone leaves with a smile on their face when this book is used as a closing to our class.

Prior to teaching my children at home, I owned a small daycare. Including me, there were four teachers and we were always on the lookout for positive educational tools to make learning fun, enjoyable, and interactive.

"What Went Right Today?" by Joan Buzick & Lindy Judd is all three. This book helps children, ages 3 - 8, to focus on the simple pleasures each day can bring. The pages are colorful, cheerful and bright. The book comes with a toe-tapping CD to put words to music so that your child can sing-a-long.

In March of 2008, be on the lookout for "What Went Right Today?" Journal. It's a 72 page spiral journal for children to draw and record positive experiences. What an awesome keepsake as well as a neat way to start off 2008.

"What Went Right Today?" has been awarded the 2006 Benjamin Franklin Award for "Best Children's Audiobook" and the 2007 Teachers' Choice Award for the Family.

Co-written by Joan Buzick & Lindy Judd, and enhanced with illustrations by James Kevin Sullivan and music by Joan Buzick, "What Went Right Today" combines thought-provoking questions with engaging pictures that, along with the accompany CD of lively songs, is designed to generate positive conversations enabling children ages 3 to 8 in identifying and appreciating the good things in their personal world. "What Went Right Today" is the perfect picturebook response to children's such commonly expressed negative phrases as "There's nothing to do!" and "Do I have to?", and "I don't want to!". A fun, "kid friendly", and unique interactive audio-picturebook, "What Went Right Today" is strongly recommended to the attention of parents concerned with instilling proper and positive values into the hearts and minds of their children.

A great way to strike up conversations between adults and children because it is so uplifting. It is a terrific addition to any child care environment.

The Yoga Zoo Adventure by Helen Purperhart

I enjoyed this book. As I said before, I am not a yoga person but this book is a blast to do with children. Anyone that has kids at home or work with children like I do will love this book. Thumping like a gorilla or stomping like an elephant gets the kids imagination going, the heart pumping, and the giggles abound. We have done the butterfly change so many times I cant count and it works great after reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." Just in time for spring! But the worse thing about this book is I can't keep it on my shelf! My friends keep borrowing it or the kids keep thumbing through it to find something new to try!! Just thing what fun it would be if you did like yoga....for me it is a keeper.

The book is designed for ages 3 to 7, but it was easy enough to engage my older children, along with our toddler, in hours of laugh-out-loud, adventurous fun.

I've recently incorporated yoga into my own life and thought it would be great for my children to join me. The Yoga Zoo Adventure offers the perfect blend of simple yoga positions and creativity, offering a fresh approach to encouraging movement, self-expression, and relaxation.

The book contains easy to follow, step-by-step, instructions for games and activities, along with stories and a special learning section on zoo animals. Not only fun to complete, it's a joy to read.

A great way to engage your children with the building blocks of a healthy lifestyle, or a fun book to pick up on a rainy day.

This is such a neat book! My children are still too young (2 and 9 months) for these games and yoga in general, but I really look forward to using this book with them when they are a little older. As an actor and college graduate with a degree in children's theatre, I think this book would be ideal for teaching children creative movement and drama. It inspires me to one day want to use this book to teach such a class. I find the games and yoga very similar to classes I took as a young adult and college student. These games help a student to pay attention to all of their senses and how to use their body as an acting instrument (not to mention, it's great exercise for kids!). I think this is such a good book with so many different games and activities that teach a child creative movement, help them learn about animals and help them learn to use their imagination and pretend. I would recommend it highly to anyone looking for games to play with their children that are innovative and creative.

This book was wonderful! It is full of fun and adventure. It brings together the art of yoga and the enjoyment of going to the zoo. This allows kids an outlet for their imagination while reaping the benefits of yoga.

The book has 106 actvivties or games that start from a child waking in the morning, riding in a bus to the zoo, visiting all animals in the zoo, riding back home in a bus, and eventually going to bed. These activites teach kids life skills and while allowing them to broaden their imagination.

The book also has animal fables and a section with descriptions of all the animals. This allows parents/teachers to have a resource to explain to the kids all the specifics related to an animal.

All in all this is a great book and a great resource for parents and teachers.

Every time my children get a little sick, I check this book for the best remedy. My children never get the illness to the degree other children do if they get it at all. This book tells you how to support their bodies in getting rid of the illness with their own immune system, with no side effects or harmful medicines. With homeopathic remedies, children get stronger. My kids haven't needed antibiotics. This book also gives you the conventional treatment, as well as other remedies that have been lost in modern medicine. I LOVE this book!! I can't believe it's out of print! That's sad.

The advice in this book is comprehensive and really excellent! I was able to reverse my 4 year old daughters ear infections to the amazement of her ENT. After a prognosis of "andenoid removal and tube insertion " required, after just 4 weeks the diagnosis is " no surgery necessary" ! A phone consultation with the doctor helped me to better decide which remedies, and the dosages, that were required.
The book lists all the major, and even many minor, maladies you will face with your child, and what you can do naturally, with herbs, vitamins, diet, accupressure, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy and homeopathy. Each ailment has a good explanation, then lists each remedy you can do, with a basic plan and an advanced plan. It is so easy to use.... you can go straight to the chapter you need and then refer to the others as you required. The advice is also great for adults too. Great antecdotes of actual case histories too.

My daughter's complete recovery, after 1 1/2 years of being constantly sick, speaks for itself. Dr. Stengler really cares about healing children naturally, and maintaining their natural vitality. Personally I'm hooked and will use natural health cures as a first choice... and conventional medicine last!

All you need to be your child's best health advocate!

With my ever-growing addiction to natural parenting tomes, I already have quite a collection of child care reference books. But something about this book beckoned me to take another look, and I'm so very glad I did.

Your Vital Child is written in easy-to-understand terms, careful to explain the basics of alternative therapies such as herbals, homeopathics, accupressure and even hydrotherapy. What I really love is that the authors have obviously worked so hard to create a comprehensive, one-stop reference guide with all the vital information any parent could possibly need - in short paragraphs with simple instructions on how to implement various treatments and what to expect after treatment.

There is more vital information here than in all my other natural health care books combined! Really. Facts that I had to learn from friends or the Internet (such as not to give astragalus when your child has a fever, or that some aromatherapies counteract the effect of herbal remedies) were all in this book, and I'm still discovering new information as I dig deeper into the book. You'll also appreciate the vast range of A to Z ailments that you can quickly look up, including common childhood diseases such as measles, mumps, chickenpox and many others (over 150 ailments to look-up). Other chapters include incredibly helpful information about what you can do to keep your child from getting sick not only now but for the rest of his life. Truly a one-stop holistic pediatrician shop!

Thick with an abundance of resources, remedies, treatment options and descriptions, this is absolutely the very best whole-child health care material I have ever had the pleasure to place on my bookshelves. It is my new standard baby shower gift and one that every parent and caretaker should not be without. The next time your child gets sick, you'll have all your options at your fingertips, then *you* choose what you feel comfortable with. A very worthwhile book and one that you won't be disappointed with!

Zoey And The Zones: A Story For Children With Asthma is a picturebook collaboratively written by Shawn McCormick and Ginny Trevino for the purpose of introducing young children to the reality of asthma, the precautions that asthmatic people have to take, and to knowing that asthma doesn't have to be an obstacle to a happy and healthy life. The charming color illustrations by Nathan Schmidt of a young car diagnosed with asthma and his stoplight buddy bring to life this story about the importance of seeing the doctor, carefully following a treatment, and remembering to enjoy fun things. Zoey And The Zones is especially recommended for young children who have asthma, or who have friends with asthma. "Zoo Poo" is a decent book for helping toddlers recognize the 'natural thing' of going number 2. I don't really think it has to be tagged as 'The First Toilet Training Book' as it states in the title. We had many other first books. This book came to us after a turbulent year and home life and many potty training attempts. If your son or daughter is having a hard time making a deposit in the toilet or potty chair (afraid, control freak, whatever), this book will help. It made it interesting for my 3rd-time-in-training, controlling daughter to see the animals 'going potty' in nature and then going about their business. At the end of the book, the moral of the story is that kids go potty on the toilet. We made it a fun to read book by laughing and saying together, "Ewww!" each time we turned a page. For those of you who might think they would find this a disgusting book, believe me, it's fine. My parents never let us say any of the words that started with the letter p. But we have to think like a toddler to help them and this books helps! I also recommend "It Hurts When I Poop". It explains what happens in your body and that poop is your body's trash and the toilet is the trash can. My little future doctor loved the simple drawings of inside the body. She's now trained and we're both happy!!! Good luck!

My 22 month old son loves this book. He thinks it's hilarious. I think it's hilarious to see other people's reactions when we read it! If you feel as I do, that it's best to talk to your children about their bodies and bodily functions as well as those of other animals, this is the book for you. It is, however, not the wordiest of books, which is unfortunate. A good "THIS is the last book" (when you've already read 10) bedtime book.

My 3 year old daughter LOVED/S it!!!

We bought this book during potty training because my daughter had fear about "poo-ing" in the potty....this book I think helped lesson her anxiety and of course since it is silly she LOVED and still loves it!! It isn't too expensive and was a great asset for our potty training!!
