Trauma Through a Child's Eyes: Awakening the Ordinary Miracle of Healing Review Date: 2007-12-04
Best book in my library!Review Date: 2007-10-02
A Terrific Book-Trauma Through a Child's EyesReview Date: 2007-01-16
As I read, I am drawn into a place of understanding:
-the body's natural tendency to protect itself
-a child's extraordinary ability to react to, renegotiate, and heal from traumatic events
-the responsibility we all have to respond intelligently and effectively to the trauma so prevalent in our world.
As I read, I am drawn into a place of hope:
-that we all have access to resilience
-that our children can thrive
-that there is a way to help that does "no harm.'
I highly recommend this book for professionals, parents, anyone interested in the "miracle of healing." It is intelligently and compassionately written by two extraordinary professionals who are clearly more interested in healing trauma than in their own renown. I have recommended Trauma Through a Child's Eyes to clients, colleagues, friends and family and I recommend it unequivocally to you!
Excellent book for anyone who works with children and their parentsReview Date: 2007-07-03
Wonderfully clarifying for anyone who works with children--be it traumatized children or children who are exposed to 'normal' occasional overwhelming events such as falling of a bike--and to anyone who works with parents of children.
Highly recommended.

Extraordinary Book for Necessary Due DiligenceReview Date: 2008-04-09
When I came across the Vaccine Safety Manual, I immediately realized that vaccine research has entered a new era. This is no ordinary book. Although it is a scholarly guide, it is well organized and well written so that average people (and avid researchers) can quickly gain the knowledge they seek on any vaccine. You don't need to read this book from beginning to end, but can use it as a reference for the vaccines that you are most interested in learning about. For example, I wanted to know why babies are given the hepatitis B vaccine, so I started with that chapter, which begins on page 261 (and ends on page 312). This chapter begins with a thorough definition of the disease, who is most likely to get it, how many people get it, etc. All of the information is taken directly from official sources, such as peer-reviewed studies. There are sections in that chapter on safety and how well the vaccine works, and the safety section breaks the studies down into sub-sections, such as studies that link the vaccine to a) arthritis, b) autoimmune/nervous system disorders, c)visual/hearing problems, d) blood disorders, etc. You get the idea: this is a very thorough and very organized manual. (It does explain why babies receive this vaccine. You may be unhappily surprised!)
I highly recommend this book. It helped me to realize that my parents were wise in raising me, and you, too, would be wise to read this manual before you make your decisions.

Medicinal and magical uses of over sixty common herbsReview Date: 2001-05-28
Perfect First Herbal for a ChildReview Date: 2003-10-29
My kids (boys, ages 5 and 8) love the full-color illustrations of easy-to-find herbs. This is truly written to be used by a child (though adults will find it enchanting as well) which is exactly what I needed. I have plenty of my own adult versions of herbals and wanted something that my children could call their own and use on their own.
An interesting twist is the organization of the herbs. The herbs are grouped into four seasons, the season they would most commonly be found, and the chapters begin with Autumn, the start of the Wheel of the Year. Living in Florida, we are less likely to be finding that exactly useful; but we do enjoy seeing how they are usually found in the more northern areas of the nation and will enjoy that feature on our travels to visit family.

Fletcher provides REAL help!Review Date: 2008-01-20
Fletcher drives home the point that for teens to manage their weight successfully, they must adopt a plan that is individualized and right for them - no more 'cookie-cutter' programs! But she also reinforces that regardless of the approach, the bones of any successful program still involves a life-long commitment to healthy food choices coupled with a do-able physical activity program that teens can live with.
The real jewel in Weight Loss Confidential Journal is not only do teens benefit from the wisdom of an expert nutritionist who has "been there" with her own son's weight battles, but they also benefit from the in-the-trenches wisdom of their peers. Cap it all off with some awesome, simple and teen-focused recipes and meal plans, Weight Loss Confidential Journal provides a recipe for success that teens and their parents cane really sink their teeth into! Bravo, Anne Fletcher...Bravo!

Weight Loss Confidential Journal: Week by Week Success Strategies for Teens from TeensReview Date: 2008-01-08
The book features 23 weeks' worth of advice. Each week, the focus is on a different aspect of controlling one's weight. The themes "Recover from your slip-ups", "Make peace with your body", and "Get rid of diet thinking" emphasize the mind-body connection of the total person.
Weight Loss Confidential Journal also provides space for a daily 23-week diary. Besides recording food and beverage intake and time spent exercising, participants are asked to record their feelings, moods, and random thoughts, and are encouraged to jot down the day's successes. At the end of the week, users can list things that were helpful, evaluate whether their goals were met, and set new goals. Readers are also asked to list how their lives are better, and why they want to achieve a healthier weight. Reviewing the week helps readers to see their progress. Interestingly, the space designated to record weight is a small one; this shifts the focus from being solely on weight to encompassing larger goals and seeing the big picture.
Planning and realistic goal-setting are stressed. Users can plan their responses to obstacles, such as a class trip, that might interfere with progress.
Written by a registered dietitian, this book takes a moderate and balanced approach to nutrition. It focuses on eating healthful, appropriate amounts for all food groups, and includes portion sizes for foods and beverages, guidlines for food plans, and healthy recipes for teen favorites such as pizza and sandwiches.
Overall, this is an excellent book. It presents an individual, realistic approach to weight management in a user-friendly format.
A superb weight loss tool for teens!Review Date: 2007-12-30

What a girl wantsReview Date: 2002-03-09
The novel, What A Girl Wants, by Kristen Cooper, is a wonderful book for teenage girls to help them get throw there teens. For instance when girls grow older they start getting in more fights with their parents. This book will help you learn ways to prevent fights from happening with your parents.
What I like about this book is that it will help you prepare for you're a teenager. What I don't like about this book is well, well; well I actually love everything about this book. The theme of the book is to help young immature girls and turn them into beautiful mature healthy adults. I was satisfied with the ending, because Kristen Cooper put all of the rules to becoming a teenager and called them, The Ten Rules To Becoming A Teenager.
Kristen Coopers writing is so cool. She splits things up and puts rules and quotes from other kids that keep you interested with the book. What I really hate about books is when there's that word that word that you totally don't get, but Kristen lays the facts out for you. I would personally recommend this book for little children around 9-13, because at 9 your growing in to a teenager and at 13 you're a teenager but a little late. I recommend this book for all teenagers out in the world.

Looking Forward to Fifth Grade!Review Date: 2007-08-16
"Where's my stuff?" by Samantha Moss and Lesley Schwartz was so helpful to me as a student entering middle school.
The chapter called "School Stuff" had so many great ideas to get organized for fifth grade. It showed you 3 ways to organize your papers and notes. The chapter also taught me how to organize my study space at home. In addition, it showed me how to use my backback and set up my locker. The tips in this chapter are sure to make my year GREAT!
This is the ideal book for a child going into middle school!
