I am not a teen anymore, but a decade ago, I was. I never went to a public school, or delt with teenage dating, drugs, suicide, sneaking around, or all of that drama. I purchased this for a special teen in my life who has had to go to public school and face all of that. I read it before I gave it to her, and I think I learned some things that enter into the "average teen's" life. I hope she enjoys it, and learns, laughs and grows as I did.

This book was a wonderful and uplifting read. A lot of the passages will be in the back of my mind for a long time. The stories with love, hope and forgiveness really hit home for me. The only thing that I would like to see more in this book is poetry.

You would like this book if you love the feeling of being thankful of what you have. It makes me think to be kinder to people and to be happy that people are how they are and no one should try to change them. That some people are there to help and some people are there to be helped by people. I just think that this book will make so many people's lives so much brighter after having read it.

The thing that really got me was one of the stories that had a little brother that had cancer and it made me think of my little brother and what would my life be like without him. The day I read that story I went home and gave him a big hug and I told him that I loved him.

The parts with thoughtful words and deep thoughts always make me think. I love to read about people's problems and how they overcome them. I just think that it is good to know that someone might be going through the same problems with boys, parents, school, drugs and tons more things that make your head spin every day, and things that you feel like there is no way out of that situation.

All in all I thought it was a good book.

I bought this book as a gift for my 16yr old niece. The very next day, she told me how much she loved the book. She even cried reading it. I think it's nice to find reading materials that can move the minds and feelings of teenagers.

Excellent book.

I skimmed through the book before I gave it to my granddaughter who just turned 13. I thought it had some well written stories that a teenager can relate to and a lot of food for thought. She was so happy to get it, since she had the one for pre-teens also and really liked it.

As a professional working with children in foster care through a supervised visitation program, I found that at times I had difficulty putting this book down and then at other times, I could barely stand to read more. This book gave me an insight into the lives of the children I serve that I did not have previously. I also read A Child Called It and am now reading the third book in the series, A Man Named Dave. Pelzer's story gives me renewed hope for the children I work with and reignites my committment to protecting these children.

This is the second installment in the memoirs by Dave Pelzer. After being rescued by social services, Dave faces the dynamics of foster care. Wanting desperately to be loved and accepted contrasted with an understandably guarded heart. It is interesting to hear the varied families that entered his life, the struggles to finally be free to be a "normal" child while trying to adjust to impending manhood. Beyond the sacrifices and work of workers and foster parents, the people who stepped in and mentored him are an inspiration. Like all "middles" to a trilogy this book only opened more questions than it answered.

This is the second book in the trio. I read Dave Pelzer's "A Child Called "IT" first, then his brother, Richard's book, then this book. There seems to be some differing details from Richard and Dave's books. For example when Dave writes about meeting Russell at school and nearly runs into his mother (but doesn't). Richard writes that it was he who met Dave at school (not Russell) and there was confrontation between the mother and Dave. Also Richard writes about dave showing up at their fathers funeral and having a confrontation with the mother at the end. Dave mentions nothing about his father's death or funeral. His father was his hero and meant so much to him, I would think it would have been part of his memories and story in this book. I don't know who is right and the differences in stories and people have me not believing the story.

This book is about Dave's struggles in different foster homes and how at the time society viewed foster children and parents as "trash". Dave writes about his fair share of trouble with the law and pranks he pulls with his friends. Again he spends pages repeating on something so minute and at other times spends only a few sentences describing weeks of time.

Jacqueline Marcell takes a very serious subject and writes about it with such a captivating, entertaining style that I couldn't put this book down. For those of us who have had the stressful experience of caring for a loved one with dementia, knowing that even with the best support system and planning, reality is that each day is about as predictable as herding cats. A sense of humor and resiliency are key to survival. Ms. Marcell not only survived, but went a step beyond and shares her experiences to help others.

Elder Rage was a salve for my raw emotional wounds. I didn't really think anyone else could comprehend the insanity of my situation. It was a comfort to know that someone else was a pioneer in dealing with physically and mentally ailing parents. I also appreciated the practical tips for dealing with the needs of elderly parents. The humor throughout the book was appreciated, but was a bit overdone and tedious at times. I would recommend this book to anyone who is suddenly thrust into facing the difficult situation of caring for elderly parents suffering from various form and stages of dementia.

"As I read Elder Rage I felt that I was right there going through every unbelievable twist and turn with Jacqueline. Her incredible indefatigable humor and pop culture references often brought laugh-out-loud relief to situations you'd never expect! She also includes extensive valuable suggestions and resources to help caregivers navigate their personal situations. As the son of an Alzheimer's sufferer, I know so well that having a loving advocate like Jacqueline in the family can make all the difference in the world. Thank you, Jacqueline, for educating and sharing a piece of your heart!"

This book has a thorough description of symptoms related to various diseases and then offers helpful suggestions on what one can do to treat a specific disease. Using this guide I was able to suspect I had Celiac's disease and so I ordered the blood work on my own. Sure enough the results came back positive for Celiac's.

Nutritional Healing, thoughtful and generally complete

I found this book, Prescription for Nutritional Healing, very useful and complete. It's a great resource guide to nutritional healing. Her organization and presentation of the material is so easy to read. In part one she offers the basic building blocks of health, (nutrition, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, engymes, herbs, natural foods, etc.) In the second part of her book, she lists a fairly complete listing of the disorders with descriptions of each and the remedies and therapies, and in the last part of her book she summarizes various other alternative therapies (like aryuvedic medicine, the use of music and sound, blood purification, color therapy, the use of crystals, the use of magnets, exercise, yoga, and hormonal treatments, and she also includes a nice listing of pain management alternatives. I love the no-nonsense, quick reference organizational quality and especially how informative it is for a lay person and how she sometimes offers not just one or two modalities of remedies or therapies, but several. She also indicates her favorite, good quality products that one can purchase at most quality health food stores. While there are some products that will need to be ordered online or directly from the company, her suggestions are rich and varied and one is bound to find what one needs.

There's also a nice quick reference section towards the front of the book around/approximately page 70-110 that list various herbs and their uses. Although, I'd like to see this section much expanded to include more of the listed herbs' uses, but also to include many more herbs listed as well, along with any 'warnings' on all the herbs too.

She has a nice glossary at the back, plus generous listings of product mfg and distributors, medical and health organizations, and a strong index.

I'd like to see her ad more illnesses and disorders and go into greater depth on some of the ones that she lists that are currently somewhat abbreviated. I'd like to see an even stronger glossary, and for the index to be updated.

Nevertheless, this is a great book to have, whether one is just learning or is an informed reader about natural and alternative remedies. I highly recommend it. Buy it.

Anymore, it's hard knowing how to treat or prevent physical or medical problems, be it the common cold or chronic conditions such as diabetes and cancer. I stumbled by accident upon this book and have slowly been making my way through it (It's 869 pages!).

I view the book as a 'starter' for many conditions, rather than one that has definitive and detailed advice or recommendations. That's not a bad thing, but it means the reader will need to do a bit more research on some of the supplements/herbs/treatments that are recommended. As an example, the author frequently suggests Colloidal Silver (for everything from ear infections to rattlesnake bites). If you look this up online, however, there is a HUGE split between the traditional and non-traditional health/medical communities as to whether this is safe to use. Granted, this isn't uncommon, but it's particularly prounonced with this supplement.

Anyhow, the book is well-organized and covers a lot of topics. If you have a certain condition and have looked into common causes and treatments, this book probably won't tell you more than you already know. But if you're looking for a good overview of how to treat a whole variety of conditions, this is a great book.

Excellent Book-A must have!

I have an older edition of the Prescription for Nutritional Healing Book for years and it is such a life saver for me. Prescription drugs never work for me due to the dangerous side effects. This book has saved me many times and not only did it teach me about nutritional healing, it also has excellent recommendations for vitamins, supplements and herbs that helped me to nurture myself back to health. So, I decided to buy this latest edition and it has all the necessary updates that I needed. It truly is a good buy and a must have!

I liked this book a lot the first time I read it, but not so much the second time. When I read it the first time, I didn't know what was going to happen so it was a surprise. However, when I read it the second time I knew what was going to happen, so it was kind of boring. I did like it a lot though because it was a really sad book and I love sad books.
Sammy and Julie were the best of friends. They loved to go to parties together, they loved to dance together, and they loved to all around spend time together. They are in the middle of a dance class when Julie all of a sudden feels really sharp pains in her hip and back. Her mother has to take her to the hospital but they are no help at all. Julie goes through 13 different doctors before she even knows whats wrong with her. She then finds out she has a really bad cancer and it is spreading very fast. Julie has to drop out of school and dance class just to recover. Sammy is really upset that she can't see or talk to Julie! Julie gets worse and worse over time until one day she goes into a coma. Shortly after Sammy gets a call from Julie's mom and rushes over to say good-bye. Shortly after Julie slips away!
I recommend this book to teenagers that love sad books like me. This book is really sad!

I think this was a very good book. It teaches morals about how to deal with life. Not just normal day stuff a girls goes through, that along with having cancer. It shows how important it is to have a best friend, and what it is like to be a good one. I like how is portrays the two young girls life, it makes it so you can relate to them more. I like how it changed the side of the story, from Sam and Julie. It showed how hard it is to have cancer, but than also how hard it is to have your best friend go through it also. It takes the negatives of the book (cancer) into a positive impact on life. Too live your life with not regrets and to live life to the fullest. It is a very touching book. I almost cried. This book seems similar to the books by Lurlene McDaniel. I suggest this book to anyone who likes sad, life changing stories, who is also about 12 or older due to bad language. Even with that to though, it shows what the girls lives were like and gave more emotion to what was happening in there lives. This is definitely a must read and to add it to you collection, or school library!

I came across this book while looking online for true story books. I like to read books about things that have really happened. Torey Hayden a special ed teacher/ psychologist does a great job with this book.In this book she writes of 6 year old who comes from a rough place and has alot of horrible things happen to her. It shows how much she really made a difference in this girls life and how great a person she really is. When your done reading this one you really want to know what happens to this little girl "Sheila" later in life. I just finished the sequal to this book called "The tigers child" and it was also a great read. Shocking to think all these sad things could happen to a little girl but the bond she has with Torey is unbelievable. I plan to read more of her books.

All the rest came
They tried to make me laugh
They played their games with me
Some games for fun and some for keeps
And then they went away
Leaving me in the ruins of games
Not knowing which were for keeps and
Which were for fun and
Leaving me alone with the echoes of
Leaughter that was not mine

Then you came
With your funny way of being
Not quite human
And you make me cry
And you didn't seem to care if I did
You just said the games are over
And waited
Until all my tears turned into
Joy

Wow... What an amazing relevation of a small child.
Some of these profound truths like taming, love & joy, we adults & humans can't even grasp in an entire lifetime that was given to us...

"It is said that we learn through pain until we evolve & learn through joy..."

Such a sweet aftermath of the bittersweet harshness of life...

I admire Sheila's courage. I think she is one of the loveliest being ever created & I'm sure Torey would agree with me. Just because, a little girl like Sheila could be TRUE to HERSELF despite the harsh realities of life.

Cry if you must, Laugh if you must, Get angry if you must, Love if you must, but never deny yourself of your own light, your own truth...

Too many of us live life accustomed to its atrocities & superficiality & monotony that we forget ourselves. We forget who we are, what we are living for & why we are here...

I'm sure that Sheila (though she seems like the child that was being transformed by love of Torey) was actually put in Torey's path to teach Torey love & understanding. Taming & growing...

I teach children everyday & I absolutely adore each and everyone of them. I see children as lives. An empty canvas that has yet to be painted the most beautiful piece of painting...

Thank you Sheila, for teaching me to learn through joy. Thank you Sheila for touching my life with your love. The beauty of emotions, the majesty of love, the tenderness of affection, the vulnerability of individual needs... Thank you once again. Thank you... Thank you Torey for sharing such an amazing journey.

You both, Sheila & Torey inspire me to live my life thats worth living because of the love & joy that i've always had and now found once again...

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul Volume 2 is an inspirational and enlightening book. Being a teenager myself I can relate to a lot of the stories told in this bestseller. The first time I read this book I was younger and didn't understand what the authors in the book were saying, but when I revisited it this year I actually understood it and connected more to the stories. This book has inspired me to write about my personal experiences and really look back at the good, bad, or in between as a way to learn from my mistakes. Instead of breaking down I decided to write. This book has taught me and helped me through some rough times. This book is great and I recommend it to anyone. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul is not just for teenagers, I have even read some stories with my friends and family. This book has been a real joy and inspiration on all aspects of my life. Thanks Chicken Soul and I hope all readers out there will get a chance to read this delightful, motivating, and wonderful book.

I think that this book was a very good and fun book to read. Anyone who enjoys hearing about different teens telling their own stories would greatly enjoy this book. While I was reading it, there were times when i felt like laughing and other times when I felt like crying too. The things that teenagers go through are so hard and alot of adults do not understand this, that is why this book is so helpful. It is a very good book to read and I would recommend it to anyone, espically teens.

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul ll is a great book written by teenagers and some adults about life. It teaches us about life and how to deal with it. It shows us that no matter where you came form, what you look like, or how you act, almost all teenagers are the same. This book is an inspiration to everyone.
This book influences me because it inspires me to become a better person. Before I read this book I thought, "Oh this book is just some boo full of made-up stories", but as I continued to read into it more, I thought" Wow this is a really great book". This book tells you that all teens go through the same stuff. It shows you that your not alone, and with faith and courage you can overcome most obstacles. This book is filled amazing stories of love depression, and hope. I encourage everyone to read this book.

I've only read the mini version of this book that I received ironically in a goodie bag from the hospital along with all those formula samples. I had decided early on to breastfeed my daughter in spite of what society and family said. I had minimal support for those first 2 weeks after she was born and this book was a life saver!!!! No one had bothered to tell me to try lying down to nurse. My daughter had a little bit of a high palate (also read about that in the book) and I was experiencing sore nipples and felt like I should give up. Lying down nursing is also awesome for the middle of the night feedings. I also referred back to the book many times with my son when he was born in 2008. Great book and great read!!!

I purchased this book after reading a number of positive reviews and I was not disappointed. I read the entire thing cover to cover in a couple of days while I was nursing my son. I have gone back many times to look up things I have questions about. It is easy to find the information I need. Also, I was pleasantly surprised when the hospital gave out a small, pamphlet version of this book.

This book is great! If you plan to breastfeed get this book before your baby is born and read up. Different holds are described with pictures. Proper latch is described clearly. Advice for dealing with improper latch and other early breastfeeding difficulties really helped me make it through those first hard weeks. Any question I have had about breastfeeding has been answered in this book!

Very Informative

I am an RN expecting my second child and was unsuccessful with breastfeeding our first child. I have learned so much from this book & I am still pregnant. So, I haven't gotten to utilize the books techniques & suggestions/guidelines yet, but feel confident and prepared for breastfeeding our expectant infant for his first year. I highly recommend this book during pregnancy and I plan to have it readily available for quick reference (problems/issues are all listed in an index in the back)when we stumble into problems/questions. There are several resources listed in appedices as well.

No book can teach you how to breastfeed

I bought this book before I had my baby and read it cover to cover, and while it is fine for general informational purposes, it is no good at all for a new mom trying to actually learn how to breastfeed, nor indeed could any book be. After I had my baby and we were beginning to breastfeed and struggling to get it all right, I consulted this book constantly, but it was absolutely no help and in fact counterproductive as it really increased my frustration level because although it could tell me that the latch wasn't right, there is no way that it could effectively tell me how to fix it. After 2 weeks, lots of pain, cracks and tears shed, I finally got in touch with a lactation consultant. I say put the money you would spend on any breastfeeding books towards a session (or more) with a lactation consultant. If you are having any issues, you really need to get someone to come over and help you in person. If you can't get a consultant, at least go to Jack Newman's website and watch the videos. That was much more helpful than this book, and it's free.

Six Months To Live is one of the better stories I have read by this author. It is a truly touching story that makes you take a step back and be thankful for your life. Dawn is a normal 13 year old girl who's life is turned upside down when she finds out that she has cancer. She has to stay in the hospital and go through cemo. I enjoyed reading this story because it made realize how awesome my life truly is.

This book is funny and sad. It made me want to keep reading to find out what happens next in the story.
Dawn is a 13 year old girl who just started having some tests done to her and when she got the results back the doctor told her she had leukemia a type of cancer kids get. When she found out she had cancer she had to be in the hospital for a while until she reached remission. When she got to her room she found out that she had a roommate named Sandy who also has leukemia. They became very good friends and do everything together. They were with each other when their hair started to fallout. When time pasted Dawn had an infection and had to leave Sandy but she came back weak but good. She found out Sandy was in remission and Dawn got mad. When time came Dawn was in remission too. Dawn was new at this and she wanted to see Sandy again so she took the nurse's offer and went to camp. They got to camp and two guys keep staring at them in a good way and things start to get serious between them. Before they knew it camp was over and they had to go home. Sandy writes a letter to Dawn saying that she is back in the hospital in Mexico. About a week later a telegram came telling Dawn that said "We lost are beloved Sandy yesterday 10A.M she died peacefully-no pain." Dawn started to cry hoping the pain would go away.
I would recommend this book to someone who is 12 or 13 because it is a very powerful book with many sad moments in it.

They had the time of their life there. Dawn and Sandy met two really cute guys and liked the a lot. Once camp was over Sandy had a relapse.
