AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING BOOK

This book is much more than just a "beauty" how -to ancient tradition book. Its also beautifully written by outstanding authors. There are many many ancient looking photos of the exquisiteness of the traditional Indian woman, even some men, and of course the babies! Also rare and fasinating older photos of different beauty products ads, etc from India.
This book is a history lesson too, much more than wonderful recipes handed down traditionally (which are wonderful by the way!). I HIGHLY recommend this book to any India-loving philosopher or anyone interested in India at all. This book is amazing! 100 stars!

This book is wonderfully complete. Mr. Keller gives both the "big picture" as well as the necessary details.

For beginners, there are more recipes than you could hope for - and not just variations of a few basic recipes. He truly delivers with a rich collection of beauty, hair and skin care recipes.

For those a little more daring, the book provides a nice balance of background and theory. I feel confident experimenting with my own recipes now, and can knowledgably create the product I intend. (As opposed to wasting money on lots of surprises and/or disappointments.)

I only wish I'd found this book before the last half dozen or so books I purchased on natural cosmetics and essential oils.

One of the best

This is one of the best overall books I read on Essential Oil and their uses. With more recipes that you can shake a floppy disk at. I recommend this book to anyone who is or would like to craft(make) there own natural beauty care items and perfumes. This book contains a good foundation aromatheray uses of the EO and EO blends. It eazy to understand for the beginner. Yet, I belive it is a book you will use as a referance for years to come. I know I will.

This book focuses on you and how you look. It has great ideasfor keeping your nails and hair looking great, helping you find ahaircut that really fits you. It also gives you step-by-step instructions on having great, healthy skin and makeup that works for you. And the best chapter is "Fashion Workshop". It gives you all the information you should know about dressing great. There is a great article on finding your true colors, as well as a guide to the basics. Plus there is an article about being a pro shopper. this book is a must have for every girl or women!

"BeautifulYou," helped me to decide what haircut would look best on me. I liked that it told me how to keep my hair, skin and me healthy. Instead of telling me what to do, it gave me quizzes to figure out what my best colors are. I did the other quizzes to, but I liked that one the best. I would highly recommend this book, and I will be looking for more books by Lori Stacy.

Useful self-care manual.
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1998-04-28
Bharti Vyas draws upon the wisdom and spirituality of the East and the practical knowledge of the West in this unusual beauty manual.

Utilizing acupressure techniques, self-massage, herbs, kitchen cupboard treatments, make-up tips, dietary advice, and more, the author addresses the needs and special problems of areas from head to toe, not forgetting inner health, including vital fluids and hormonal health.

Well illustrated and clearly written, this is a very useful collection of tips for the woman who wants to maintain herself in top condition.

100% achievable feel-good advice

Bharti's simple approach makes the feel-good factor most people long for when buying this kind of book 100% achievable. After following her simple massage and home spa instructions I felt immensely relaxed and was glowing from head to foot (and all for the price of a bottle of almond oil and a box of deep sea salt!). I have bought a copy of this for my mum and most of my friends will be getting copies for their birthday/xmas presents as well.

Mr. Oakes must be one interesting guy to meet. His wonderfully detailed descriptions of the essences and their wearers made my mouth water even as it made me laugh. Even if you never buy any of these perfumes, just reading about them makes you want to cover yourself in the fragrances! And ahh, if you are into chypres as he is... The man gives whole little scenarios for each perfume so that you can picture yourself in the deep, dank woods (one of his favorites)covered with Chanel No. 19, or in the sweetly smelling open meadows next to a babbling brook along with Kenzo's Parfum d'ete, or in the middle of a pungent rose garden...This is fun, informative, and highly recommended. I've been reading and re-reading this for over a year now, just for the sheer fun of it.

I'm a collector

I have nearly 100 rare and not-so-rare fragrances in my collection. Having this book helps me enjoy them even more. Even collectors who think they know fragrances can learn something from this book. It tells you which season and personal image the scent portrays, so when you wear a certain scent you can select the right clothing, jewelry, makeup and hairstyle to achieve a total look. It can also help you figure out if a scent is right for you, or why it is not. You can take John Oakes' suggestions seriously or not, but he is fun and entertaining. I have most of the fragrances in his book, but you'll enjoy reading it even if you have only 1 or 2 fragrances.

An essential resource!
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 2001-06-29
I read this book because I was considering a career in the cosmetology field and wanted to know the basics. This book has it all, from descriptions of the day-to-day job, to education and certification information, interviews with people who actually do the job, tips for how to write a resume and interview, etc.

I think this book would be great not only for career-switchers like me, but also for parents of children who are thinking about getting into cosmetology, and guidance counselors. It does reinforce that above all, cosmetology is a BUSINESS. Even though everyone who was interviewed in the book loves their job, they said that if you want to be successful it's not all about being glamorous and gossiping all day playing with products.

There is plenty of information all in one place about how to get started, including Web sites and telephone numbers. After reading it, I was excited and went to visit a local beauty college, something I never would have done before.

Thank you to the author

Nobody thought I should go into cosmetology. They said I would never finish the classes. They thought I should work at the grocery store where I was a cashier and just keep on there until I got to be a manager or something. But that isn't what I wanted to do. A friend gave me this book and after I read it I knew for sure that was what I should do. So I am still working at the store but only at night. In the day time I go to beauty college. Pretty soon I can get out of this grocery store and do what I want!

Not-so-quaint Mary Quant's definition of
"Classic" is not the "natural look" ... A far-out pioneer in swinging sixties style showcases zany fresh bright color palettes, with practical how to's. Lots of color photography- Chapters include: a gallery of looks , u'standing your skin, the makeup palette, skin-care regimens, step-by-step make-up lessons and finally body care programs. Tons of fun !

This book has some really great ideas for anyone who has a special
problem that needs help. Such as helping with a high forehead.
It was the only book I found that teaches how to properly contour your face.
Sure some of the pictures look
little out-dated but the basic tips are very helpful.
If you put a modern day hair cut of the girls in the pictures you
will find that the makeup tips are good. Most beauty books
are
out-dated by their hair styles not the information in them.

The beauty tips are sound and useable and easy to follow.
The book teaches you basic ways to clean your face, how to use
a face mask, how to take off your eye makeup. All tips are great
for anyone who doesn't wear makeup and wants to learn.

Just look beyond their hair and you will find beauty tips that
can be used everyday and to go glam at night.

This book literally does tell you everything you need to know about this intensely dislikeable skin complaint. Not only does it give easy-to-understand medical facts but also deals with other matters such as how to cope with that moment when you have established eye contact with someone and then you become aware of their eye roving over the lunar landscape of your face, pitying yet faintly revolted.
