This is a book of guitar tabs....it is not a book about what members of hair bands are doing now. It is sheet music of popular hair band songs.

The Basics Only
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.

This book was fairly well-written, I found it readable and didn't find any glaring errors. That said, I found next to nothing on these subjects:

- Natural or organic hair care products
- Styling your own hair
- Braiding
- Updos
- Long hair: care, concerns, special needs or special warnings
- Identifying quality implements and caring for implements
- Uses of hair accessories you may not be familiar with (eg rats, hair sticks, etc.)

There was a lot of very basic and general information on many subjects including hair loss, alopecia, etc., and it is a good general sourcebook. However if you are looking for in-depth, or even just detailed, treatments of your areas of interest, look elsewhere. I returned this book after reading it through very gently.

Not for beginners

This book has a lot of great info and recipes, but if you are not an experinced soapmaker, you probably will not have the ingredients you need. First there are a lot of things you have to get at the grocery/drug store: distilled water, glycerine, corn meal, oatmeal, olive oil, baking soda, cornstarch, honey, vegetable oil, vodka, witch hazel, epsom salts, castor oil, etc. Then you have to get a lot of things from mail order or specialty stores, like essentail oils, jojoba oil, coconut oil, herbs, sea salts, sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil, benzoin, beeswax, cosmetic clays. These items can get very expensive.

From a beginner's point of view, the recipes in this book can be overwhelming because they contain ingredients which are not commonplace. However, this book does offer an exceptional ingredient guide which carefully describes each one and its uses. The Mail Order Buyer's Guide found in the back of the book is also useful in locating and purchasing the hard to find ingredients.

The author divides her book into sections: Hand Care, Foot Care, and Skin Care. In each, she takes the time to carefully outline the resons behind many beauty problems, such as Athlete's Foot, Adult Acne, Brittle Nails, Eczema, etc. Learning what may cause the problems and how they can be resolved is a great reason to read the book.

If you are an experienced herbalist then the recipes found here can be a great addition to your already natural lifestyle. For beginners, take the time and spend the money if you are inclined to learn how to make your own home spa. This book successfully teaches how to achieve a natural approach to beautiful hair, skin, hands, and feet.

I felt that the book did not deliver at all what the title suggests. There is a VERY short section on eczema, and it is frankly contradictory to anything else I've read or been told by a professional. If you are buying this for the purpose of information/help with eczema, don't waste your time.

What a trip

I should know, since I traveled with John AND WROTE THIS BOOK. I used his journals notes and put these 2 Horsehairs little books together. We sold them from the wagon as we traveled east, from California to New York where we settled on 50 acres in central New York State. Two years later I rejoined modern day living.
John was totally against me publicizing the trip but gradually warmed to the idea. Now that he's saying he's the author I guess he really likes the books. Actually, the writing is just OK.

Outdated and ill-advised

Much of the advice in this book is timeless and helpful. But there are major gaps in the content since it obviously was written before the Internet became a valuable recruiting tool. More worrisome, however, are some very questionable recommendations like:
1. Trust your first instincts in an interview (and perhaps end the interview process there)
2. When a resume indicates a gap in employment and the applicant says an injury was the reason, ask what kind of injury and press on to make sure it's valid.
I could go on but won't. Dr. Hair is a well-meaning man and very knowledgeable about some areas. I just wouldn't advise paying money for this book unless you get a very good deal on a used copy.

This book looks cute from its cover, maybe too cute. The font inside is too "cute" to read, and the chapters are not well organized, it doesn't separate how to cut the boys and girls' hair. Even worse, it came with its cover separated from its body. I don't have time to open it till recently, so I can't return it. Bad choice.

The author of this book goes into considerable description of why he wanted to cut his own hair. He gives his unsupported philosophy on the state of hair cutting today. Then, the author writes about all the mistakes he made while learning how to cut his own hair.

No descriptions are given as to how to actually go about cutting your own hair!

This book isn't good for a novice to start learning about black hair care. The is very confusing and a waste of time. In the book, they repeat the same thing over and over, you in up skipping pages, and half of the information you're probably already know how to do. The author of this book does't go in-depth the information they provide. Out of all the Milady's book, this book is the most disappionting and isn't worth your hard earn money.
