I bought this book for a low price, which is good since it is so tiny (only about 5 inches). However, even if the book is so small, it is easy to see the photos of the hairstyles we wore back in the 1970's. Funny book!

...because you'll be laughing too hard. I can't even explain how much fun this book is. Money well spent if you love to poke fun at horrific hairstyles. Many feathered mullets and styled facial hair; need I say more?

You will not stop laughing!

It's hard to imagine a more effective humor book. My roommate and I keep this lying around our living room, and occasionally, when one of us is feeling down, the other opens up the book and we start laughing.

I can't get enough of this book -- buy it. It's good for your health.

The fact that there are no words to go with this collection of fashion cul-de-sacs improves the experience. Strictly an impulse purchase, but one to display openly with pride. Guaranteed to crack a smile and jog a memory. Spot your friends - compare to your yearbook. Enjoy!

I first saw this book at the hair salon. The red-headed cover model was daring me to pick it and and give it a browse. Oh My! I'm so glad I did! "Bad Hair" is full of some of the most hysterical and, uh, creative hairstyles. This is from the time of the perm and feathering, after all. In addition to wondering of the hair, the fashions represented are a hoot.

This little book is just so much fun!

I'm sorry, but this book is terrible. I am not a hair whiz, but this book should be called "Ponytails." I am usually not this critical of things, but I am just so upset that I wasted my money on this. This book was just too basic. If you can already do your child's hair and are looking for new/neat ways to fix it, this is not the book you want. Get "Fabulous Hair" instead.

My mom had this book when I was younger and we still purchase it for our friends with daughters (I'm now 23). The illustrations are very clear and I had the best braids in elementary school and can still french braid better than anyone I know!

I love this book, it's wonderful for both little girls and teenagers. The directions are very easy to follow even for someone like me with four thumbs. After a couple of false starts I was able to send my daughter off to school with beautiful French Braids and she was the envy of the other girls in her class.

A little outdated, but excellent instructions and a great value

As a mom, I found this book very useful. It is great for learning how to do just about any kind of braid. It starts with easier stuff, like the garden-variety braid and pony-tail flips, so it works for someone with zero hair experience. It finishes up with fishtail braids, French braids and French ropes. The instructions are very clear, and the best part is that they show you just how to hold your hands. I never got the hang of French braids, but now I've mastered them.

The only reason I give this book 4 stars instead of 5 is that it is slightly outdated in style. The publication date is 1992 and you will spot pictures of girls in floral dresses with white yokes and oversized button-down shirts with turtlenecks. But the hair techniques are still great and easily adaptable to other hairstyles. And most of the hairstyles are timeless, especially for young girls. (I don't know that I would wear a French braid myself.)

The bow instructions are also neat. The book shows how to gather ribbon and wire it to barrettes in different styles such as rosettes and the "worm." It also has ideas for more unusual barrettes. We are going to make the balloon barrette for a birthday party craft.

Overall, a great buy for girls ages 7-13 or for parents of younger girls.

I was quite pleased with this book as I have always had short hair and both my girls prefer their hair long. The photos are a bit dated, but the diagrams showing how to do the work are spot on.

As fun and quirky as this is, perhaps a dog hair sweater isn't that great an idea. Imagine what you'll smell like if you get caught in the rain. You're lible to be tossed off public transportation because of the smell of wet dog.

Maybe you could just knit a dog bed or a dog sweater instead? Seems like a more logical use of the hair.

Okay, the next time you see some poor schmuck sitting on a curb looking into his lap and doing nothing...and you find yourself tempted to think, "that poor guy really needs to get a life,"...I want you to remember some of the books you've been reading and what you're considering a valid hobby.

Knitting with dog hair?

What's next? Cooking with dust bunnies?

There are a thousand (more like a million) sane and self-esteem building hobbies in the world.

Knitting with dog hair is not one of them.

As an on again off again fiber artist I found this book to be very informative as a review as well as adding to the knowledge I already had. If you enjoy knitting and love dogs spinning their hair into yarn is a fun thing to do. Don't have a dog? Contact a local groomer and request long, clean hair. It's free for the asking and the color, texture, and staple length is varied which makes for very unique yarns.

I must say that I was initially excited about this book. Knitting with dog hair seems like one of those ideas that every pet-owning, recycling, energy-conscious responsible human being should subscribe to. However, one little thing you should be aware of before you get this book. You have to REMOVE the hair from the dog BEFORE you knit. I really wish I had been told this before I started. Sure Scout makes a great hat, but it's really embarrassing if you are walking down the street, wearing your admittedly very stylish chapeau, and the hat pees down the back of your neck. Believe me, after the sixth or seventh time that happened I realized there was something wrong.

Fortunately Scout is getting old and struggles less and less each time I wear him and has learned to thrash his legs when he needs to be let down to "do his business" (although that causes problems, too, I'll have to get a book about how to knit bandages from mouse hair next). However, I've been thinking about a pair of socks and I'm pretty sure the knitting techniques will be similar, but my cats Snookums and Woogy seem to get very edgy whenever I pick up my razor.

In these times of impending environmental catastrophe, it behoves all of us to recycle to reduce our carbon footprint. Happily, this onerous task has just been made easier by this publication.

With Kendall Crolius as my guide, I was able to produce a handsome pair of lederhosen and a saucy g-string from the excess hair produced by my pooch. I now intend to press on to the advanced section where there are designs for a fireman's uniform and a peek-a-boo bra.

My friend, Phil, has always been ahead of the recycling game - his ABBA tank-top made from the scummy bits in the shower plughole is legendary - but now he faces some real competition.

Here is to a tremendous book. I got this book because it looked interesting and I was curious to read about a real life teacher in LA (for a great movie, see "Stand and Deliver"). This guy is amazing. My wife also read this book and was very impressed. It is a quick read (200+ pages) and very entertaining.

The first book describes the behavior this teacher is able to instill in his kids and his goals in doing so. The next part deals with how to teach certain subjects and make it interesting. I was blown away. I loved it. This guy is a genius.

This book is terrific for anyone raising kids and especially for teachers (at any level - church, elementary, middle, high, workplace, etc.). The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wanted it to be longer. Please, enjoy this book!

TEACH LIKE YOUR HAIR'S ON FIRE was our book club's recent selection. Several members are retired teachers, and were stupified at the amount of time the author devotes to his class... and somewhat skeptical. Those of us who aren't teachers found literally dozens of fascinating, practical tips about interacting with children in a variety of situations... travel, reading, character development, dining, finances... This is a terrific book, not only because it paints a fantastic picture of possibilities and change, but also because it is infused with such enthusiasm.

Rafe Esquith does not claim to be a teaching genius. He is honest about mistakes he has made over the years but his dedication to his students and his principled approach to teaching shine through on every page.

His classroom management skills are centered on Lawrence Kohlberg's Six Levels of Moral Development. As I read about his students accomplishments and challenges it occured to me that a teacher can get a lot of teaching done when students are willing to learn and will forgo disruptive behavior.

One the most moving things about Esquith's Room 56 is the fact that former students return there on Saturdays to study and learn. Esquith shares book lists and resources that he uses and is brutally honest about faculty meetings and the latest ineffective fads in reading and writing instruction.
Teachers and school administrators will be inspired by this book.

This is the best "whodoneit" ever written. It's a totally original concept and is a must read for anyone who loves a good dark comedy!! Mr. Schreibman's work is Jacqueline Susann meets John Waters (I'm a fan of both - or I rather all three!!) And having met Mr. Schreibman at a book signing I can honestly say he is as charming and funny as he is talented. When you enter a book store and an author greets you with a book and tells you you'll fall off the toilet laughing then you simply must buy that book!!! I hope to one day see this made into a movie!! It would be a classic...

I have to say that this book is a great laugh out loud read. I read the book while on vacation at a beach house with others and they were constantly asking me what was I laughing out loud about. The names of the charactures and their individual personas were dead on and the whole comical nature of the story made for a great light read. I can't wait to read Steve's next book and hope that this one hits the big screen. I've been racking my brain on who would make the perfect Damian Shtup-perhaps...maybe I should leave that up to Steve.

Well worth the wait!

I ordered this book along with Augusten Burroughs new book and had to wait almost 3 months for them to arrive. It was well worth the wait on both books! This was such a fun book to read. The main character Damian is both despicable and loveable at the same time. The book is campy and reads like a John Waters movie. It's a "saver" meaning I'll be keeping this in my permanent book collection. I'd recommend it definitely. After reading it, I found myself walking around grandly expressing "That's fabulous dahling" until my family begged me to stop.

Don't read it in church...

Good luck reading Blood in My Hairspray without laughing out loud. This is the funniest book I have read in many years. I loved it! From the very creative story line to the endearing and involving personalities, this murder-mystery should appeal to anyone who likes to laugh.

Hats off to Mr. Schreibman for what I consider to be the best first effort since John Grisham.

I found this book to be a great peek into the indulgent gay persona. Steven Schreibman did a wonderful job helping me, a naive straight from Arizona, enjoy great humor in a very foreign world of gays, New Yorkers, hairdressers, and more. While centered around a mystery, the unique and in-your-face humor is the core of this book. It was "marvy!"

This is a great guide for kids and tweens who love to play with new hair styles, but aren't quite sure how to achieve the perfected look that they'd like. (There's a thing or two for us big girls to learn as well!)

Beginners will learn how to identify hair types and how each type of hair requires specialized treatment. The styles offered are all cute and range from funky to classic. They are also all age-appropriate and do not require spending a lot of money to maintain. (Thank you, American Girl!)

Hair: Styling Tips and Tricks for Girls is a wonderful learning tool and the skills it allows young readers to perfect can be a wonderful confidence-builder.

Highly recommended!

This book is AWESOME!

It doesn't have as many tips as I was expecting, but what it did have was a cohesive message about how to be healthy and feel good about yourself. He ties hair and make-up in with a healthy lifestyle and eating foods that are good for you. To be honest, while I knew I wasn't the healthiest eater (I'll admit I'm a sugar addict and love certain horrible-for-you processed foods), the book opened my eyes to how make-up and hair can only go so far. An inner beauty radiates from you (physically and otherwise) when you eat well, exercise and take care of yourself.

Kyan is a great inspiration to life balance - being busy successful and not neglecting your body. He admits that even in his own crazy world of TV show taping schedules, he slips up and will eat a doughnut. But he also knows the importance of re-finding that balance and not letting the little things take over your life.

GREAT book. Great tips in this one. Definitely worth purchasing. My boyfriend even loves it!

I love this book! My household consists of 4 women, ages 48, 21, 19, and 17 and all of us have found something in this book that we can use. I love all the skin care, makeup, and hair tips, but my favorite part of the book is the workout section because you don't have to buy expensive equipment or spend a lot of money to join a gym to be healthy and get toned up. the section about "how not to diet" has really got me thinking about what i put in my mouth and how i can make changes in my diet to be healthier. i really recommend this book to all women, and i'm pretty sure you'll find something in it that you can use, too!

I thought this book would be full of his tips and tricks he uses on TV. I saw Kyan in an interview on the Today show about the book and he gave some "homemade" recipes for beauty. Although some of the hairstyles are a tad trashy, most of them are really lovely.
They're explain step by step, and each step and a coloured photograph and instructions.
I would recommend this book to people who have a basic knowledge of hairstyling. They dont teach you how to blow dry your hair perfect or exactly how to tease hair so you'll need to know just a bit to start out.
The hairstyles range from very simple to extrememly complex(even for me I'm a hairstylist), the complex ones look abit messy sometimes.

But all in all its a FANTABULOUS book, and if you actually can get your hands on this, practice, practice, practice, and soon all your family members will be begging you to do their hair up

Aubrey masterfully provides well-researched information on early herbal medicine along with cosmetics to modern-day products. I love the organitoons-funny pictures making fun of big corporate companies and their lies and the great chart chockfull of information on certain benefits of each herb for skin care. This is a great saver, gives you full details for "The Natural Method" for Hair & Skin and will make you feel good about what you do for your body. Also a guide to make sure that you pay for a quality product for your body. The information is funny, true, and helpful. This will really change your life-I love it. There are even recipes for your own skin/hair-care and a list of bad ingredients to avoid. I also recommend Aubrey Organics skin/hair-care. You will love them!

I do buy my makeup at department stores and they always ask me if I use their "cleansing" products too because my skin is so beautiful. Not on your life!!!! I turned to Aubrey after years of department store products where my skin had become dry, flaky, and irritated. Now I spend the bare minimum and use the bare minimum and my skin has never been better. I follow the routine he recommends in his book. It truly is a keeper.

This is one of most scientifically based books I have read on skin and hair care. From the listings of natural and synthetic chemicals in this book, I have been able to identify the chemicals in products I have been using that caused severe damage to my hair and scalp. I have seen several doctors over the past 10 years and have been given prescribed medication and shampoos to cure my problem - with no effectiveness. I have even used (supposedly) natural shampoos and conditioners from health food stores. I discovered that I was using products with synthetic chemicals (probably used as preservatives) that are listed in Aubrey Hampton's book. All of the products I've been using had some or many synthetic chemicals in them.

Based on the information in I've been reading in Natural Organic Hair and Skin Care, I have developed my own skin care and scalp treatments. I started noticing improvement in my skin daily. It took about 3 weeks for my scalp problem to clear up completely. I've been using Aubrey's Selenium Shampoo also, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for those who want to correct their hair and scalp problems. I continue use a leave-on conditioner I developed. I am a black woman and I have very kinky hair. My hair has stopped falling out and breaking off in large quantities. This book, Natural Organic Hair and Skin Care is backed up with SOUND, SCIENTIFIC information. Aubrey Hampton has presented information about his experiences and those of his peers working in this field as a chemists, as well. I cannot thank Aubrey Hampton enough for the time and commitment he made to create this book. It has helped me tremendously.

If you want to know the FACTS and HAVE GOOD RESULTS and SAVE YOUR MONEY, BUY THIS BOOK!!! You must be patient. Nothing so GOOOD comes comes easy.

This is a very informative, highly useful book with sound basic facts and information.

I have been impressed with the amount of scientific knowledge and factual information in this book and would highly recommend it to any one who would like to get away from the chemical assault from mass produced skin can hair care products.

Well done!

This is one of most scientifically based books I have read on skin and hair care. Based on Aubrey's listings of natural and synthetic chemicals, I have been able to identify the chemicals in products I have been using that caused severe damage to my hair and scalp.

I've been using Aubrey's Selenium Shampoo as well, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND for those with hair and scalp problems.

Nothing GOOOD comes comes easy.

Wow,what great pictures,if you like the way the "Hair bands" looked you'll love this book. A few mistakes, one is on the page that has Phantom Blue,it has Precious Metal and couple more mistakes here and there, but otherwise a great book!! Miguel,Portugal!

I thoroughly enjoyed Steven Blush's previous book American Hardcore and had high hopes for American Hair Metal as well (being fan of both these genres). However, I was very disappointed when the book arrived in the post as it looked more like a hipster coffee table book than an actual good read. Opening the book I wasn't wrong either. This book is mainly full of page-size pictures with few quotes scattered here and there. No context, stories etc. In the introduction Blush mentions that he decided against the idea of interviewing ex-hair metalers as most of them were probably too embarrassed to speak about their past (having moved on to being family people now). This is almost like admitting defeat before he's even started! A bit of investigative writing would have been great. OK, so the photos are great but I can't see this book appealing to any serious fans of metal. One for the ironic-generation I guess. For the rest of you - just try Google Images instead.

For something similar (but much better) go for Mötley Crüe's The Dirt instead. Also check out Penelope Spheeris' brilliant film on the same subject: The Decline Of The Western Civilization Part 2.

One last thing: who the heck calls it "hair metal" anyway? We certainly didn't call it that back in the day. Is this just another lazy media term for an otherwise glamtastic genre?

If you were there, or were listening, or are still there and listening, this book will put a smile on your face; Page after page of quality, colorful pictures and highly amusing quotes by some of the biggest bands of the era; The only thing I wished was that it included more pictures, esp. since there is a huge list at the end of the book w/80's artists not pictured at all, and their one big song. This would include bands like Badlands, Helix, Shotgun Messiah, and Smashed Gladys....To think this book could have been twice the size only makes me think of things that could have been...

But this is no skimpy collection; A great book at a great price, LOTS of pics suitable for framing if you were so inclined...

And if you weren't ever into metal, there's still plenty to make fun of.

Man, did I really used to dress like that?

Dying to relive, recapture, or just plain reminisce about your youth? Have I got a book for you. While reminiscent of Hollywood Rocks! (which focuses exclusively on the '80's Hollywood scene), American Hair Metal encompasses a much broader scope. It includes all of the de rigueur L.A./California bands while adding East Coast and international ones into the mix. It even throws in a couple of female rockers to boot. Don't expect any indepth bios on any of the bands. It's mainly a collection of photos and quotes. You may not have heard of all of the bands but the major players are all represented here (though a little light on the Dokken, G N'R, and Great White if you ask me). So tease it up, turn it up, and get ready to rock with Steven Blush's American Hair Metal.
