This is a very good book for young girls. It is well written for an easy read, captures girls' attention on each subject and finishes up each subject quickly so it doesn't get boring. It stimulates discussion. We recommend it as a small gift for any event and as a great stocking stuffer.

Understanding vertebrate hairstyles necessitates firm grounding in the invertebrate hairstyles, thus I recommend as a companion to this volume "Invertebrate Hairstyles: A Survey of the Carinarioidia, from Afro to Mohawk."

For the enjoyment of preschool children ages 3 to 6

Marvelously and energetically illustrated in full color by Georgia Graham, Wanda And The Wild Hair is the debut picturebook story of Barbara Azore for the enjoyment of preschool children ages 3 to 6. Wanda And The Wild Hair is about a young girl who loves the wild look of her hair dearly, even though her mother nags her to wash it and her teacher threatens to have the principal cut it off. A series of accidents and messes leave Wanda's hair in worse shape than usual, with twigs and branches in it - it's almost a bush! She has to get it cut and styled, but whispers to herself, "don't worry, it will grow again". Humorous chalk pastle illustrations bring hair out of control to exuberant life, practically popping off the page in cartoony splendor.

This book is a must have for any family dealing with cancer. It explains gently and clearly what cancer is, and what is involved in treatment in terms children of all ages can understand. It does not talk down to children, and reinforces family relationships during a difficult time. If you are dealing with cancer in any family member, and you have young children in your family, YOU NEED THIS BOOK.

I never wanted to find out why my pubic hair was curly until my grandmother bought me this book, choosing, as I did, like most well balanced people do, to shave off said hair with my father's clippers, but now, I'm fascinated. Join Vernon as he takes on a thrilling rollercoaster ride of pubic discovery, from the invention of pubic hair in the early 1600's (which was considered "a lewde and evile poxxe on manne and beyste" by the unwashed masses), to the production of the first merkin in 1798, through to the stockpiling of pubic hair during the Second World War. An unmissable addition to the serious book lover's collection. A timeless classic.

Salwa Salem's memoir, "The Wind in my Hair" is a fascinating look at the power of the human spirit. Salem, a Palestinian woman, was uprooted from her home when she was a young girl. Intelligent, political, and determined she lived in Damascus, Kuwait, and Vienna before settling in Italy. In spite of the obstacles she faced (sexism, racism, and Xenophobia) she never settled for second-class status.
This is a very readable book with a point of view we see all too seldom. It should be required reading in high schools and colleges across this country.

Anyone here a hair fanatic? Well if you are you came to the right place. This book tells you everything and I mean that! It tells you what can damage hair, how much strands of hair you have on your head, how much brushing is too much etc. It will also tell you how to decide if you want to get a hair cut or not and what kind of hair cut you want to get. If you have dandruff or lice or anything it will give you some info on how to get rid of it and what kind of shampoo and conditioner suites you best.

This book is extremely instructive re: curly hair. It tells you how to properly clean, condition, and style the three main types of curly hair. It also offers recipes for home-made hair-care products so you can save a few dollars. I have used all the recommendations, including one or two of the home-made products and my very curly hair is manageable and looks great! I definitely recommend the book as well as the Devacare line of hair products.
The CG Method WORKS!!

Lorraine's book tells you to abstain from shampoo WITH SULPHATES, you can find all natural shampoos like WEN, Deva No Poo, Burts Bees or even Castille soap that you can wash with. The CG method suggests coating hair with conditioner prior to shampooing if you feel you want to shampoo to protect the hair and keep it's moisture or simply using conditioner to wash.
This method WORKS and I have tried it myself, and there are countless curlies on naturallycurly.com that are using this method and it works for them. Even straight hair can benefit from the CG method it's not just for curly/wavy girls but the book encourages you to find your "inner curl" and embrace your natural waves rather than subjecting your hair to the abuse of SULPHATE SHAMPOO, hair products containing things that end in "CONE" and SD Alcohol as well as excessive heat styling that is very harmful to our locks!

This book has a lot of good tips for curly-haired girls. It also has a lot of stories from people who have battled with their hair most of their lives. It's definitely worth reading if you've ever been ready to give up on trying to work with your naturally curly hair. Put down the flat iron and embrace the curls!
So glad to find this book!

After lots of years of straightening products and processes and lots of big rollers, and blowing dry, I have come to live with and love my 65-year-old naturally curly hair -- hurray! This is the first book I have ever discovered that glorifies the pluses of having curls -- and gives reasonable recommendations and suggestions for hair care especially for those of us whom nature blessed this way. I discovered this book while trying a "new" hairstylist at a salon new to me. What a delight to find someone who actually knows how to work with curly hair and bring out its best! I skimmed thru the book while I was there and discussed some of its contents with her --
yay! I am a most happy lady!
