Accredited and award-winning Master Colorist Mary Ann Proulx draws upon her many years of professional experience in hair coloring to provide a superbly presented and arranged "do-it-yourself" step-by-step instruction for coloring hair at home to professional beauty salon standards in Hairdos, Hair Dont's. Separate chapters are devoted to the classification of hair coloring products; basic understanding of color; analyzing your own hair; gray hair; color fillers and drabbers; how tint reacts to tint; color selection (applying the fundamentals of color); preparation (including the patch test and strand test); application; and maintenance. There are also chapters on "Review & Tips" and "Your Personalized Color". The basic, "user friendly" text is enhanced with a "Quick Reference" section and an "Order Form". Herbs for Beauty

This book is a collection of centuries-old herbal secrets. Some of these secrets my mother has only heard whispered but never learned. I am sure that my own tight-lipped doctor uses them, because he is in his seventies, yet his skin has the texture of a thirty-year-old.
These formulae work. They restore health, youth, and vigor - the qualities that the Chinese doctors call "beautiful." The speed at which the restoration takes place is only inhibited by the initial state at which the user begins.

Useful recipes, fun book

I'm amazed that these ancient formulas are so useful and work so well even today. Maybe it's because they have been used for so many generations. The ancient stories and backgrounds behind these formulas are very interesting, e.g., how some recipes were used by Emperor Guangxu and Empress Cixi. I recommended some hair rinse formulas to my friends and they really liked those recipes! Those mouthwash recipes are very helpful too. The recipes are easy to follow, with detailed ingredients, amounts, and preparation methods described. The explanations in Chinese medicine and scientific research are easy to understand. The book gives detailed references that are very convincing. It's a good resource about traditional Chinese culture too, such as those aromatics bags that were very popular in ancient China. It's almost unbelievable that ancient Chinese had developed so many comprehensive methods for beauty.

I bought the earlier edition years ago when it first came out. Alas, it got "lost" (actually, I probably sold it at a garage sale somewhere along the line). When I saw it again but this time in the revised edition, I had to get it again, and the price is certainly right. The approach here is very simple and a bit more fearless (not so many fussy partings of the hair), more that you use your fingers as you go gently around your head and a good pair of scissors and take your time. Truly, with this attitude, you can get the job done pretty well, and it's actually fun. The drawings are many and simple and very nicely done. Though this revised edition is dated 1983, the styles are pretty basic and right on time. I'd buy this book before the "Haircuts for Dummies" one, hands down.

All incurable Kim Possible fans like myself will love this book! It is esentially the hilarious episode The New Ron written very well and neat. The New Ron is a great episode, Ron's new hair cut makes him cool but Kim thinks it may be a change for the worse. Also the zany Senor Senior Sr and Senor Senior Jr are introduced in this episode, they are such great characters and their background and motives for evil are explained in this storyline.

The story is written very well and accompanied by many photo's from the episode. While the pages are printed in black & white on a standard paper, unlike the gorgeous full color cinemanga KP book, this works well as it is written not comic book and for the price it's an excellent buy. Although I am too old to benefit, I guess this is the type of novel young children could get into to develop an interest in reading and improve their skills.

Overall this is a very fun book and a total steal for the price, also there was a bonus free holographic collectors card inside, so if your interested you should pick up a copy before they stop putting the cards in. I have seen similar if not idenicle cards on ebay for around $10 a set of 4.

It's been a long time since I have enjoyed a book as much as this one. This is 100% storytelling at its best, juts the plain story of teenage love between Mohamed and Mina. It happens in Tangier (Morocco) probably in the 50's, just after or before Morocco's indepedence. The end is amazing and I wont spoil it for you.

In many ways, Marbet's simple style reminded me of Richard Brautigan. But while Brautigan strives to be simple, Mrabet just does it as a matter of fact.

All told, it's brilliantly told

Mrabet is a Moroccan man who literally tells stories. The American author Paul Bowles (THE SHELTERING SKY, etc.) tapes these stories and translates them into English for us. Lucky us.

This debut novel (published when Mrabet was 25) certainly has the slightly rambling but totally captivating force that we expect from the oral tradition. The prose is utterly simple and almost child-like, but the deadpan tone merely underscores the brutal motivations and rather amoral goings-on in the novel. Fret not: There's sorcery, lust, bisexuality, violence and all sorts of other goodies in store.

Fans of Paul Bowles' short fiction, like A DISTANT EPISODE and PAGES FROM COLD POINT, will certainly know what I mean -- and will certainly not want to miss out on Mrabet. This man deserves to be a star.

We gave a copy of this book to the women who cut my daughters hair for locks of love. She loved it and keeps in her salon. The story is about a girl who wants to find something special about her self, something she can do that is unique, not just have beautiful hair. Then she sees a sign in a window and gets the idea to donate her hair. It is a wonderful story and shows the girl sitting in the chair getting her hair cut.

Fun story of how a little creativity turns a natural asset into a talent.

Everyone seems to love Melissa's long, thick shiny hair: it's her best attribute. But Melissa wants to be known for more than her hair: she wants to be known for real talent. Problem is, she can't seem to come up with anything original or notable. Suzanne Bloom illustrates the fun story of how a little creativity turns a natural asset into a talent.

Arlene Batz, CPE - NYS Licensed Esthetician, Board Certified Electrologist and Licensed Hair Removal Instructor in NYC

Professionals might find the material redundant as they will probably have much of the material in several different sources in their libraries HOWEVER this book will be a wonderful addition as it includes information on all types of hair removal under one cover! It also includes a chapter on threading and another on laser physics and laser hair removal. While some textbooks incorrectly classify laser hair removal as permanent, this book does not. Students will probably cherish this book. Complicated ideas are made simple to understand with easy to follow text accompanied by wonderful photos and graphics. I suggest that students use this book as a study guide as it is indeed comprehensive yet far lighter than the heavy textbooks you prefer not to lug. For the consumer who wants to make informed choices as to hair removal options, Milady's Hair Removal Techniques, A Comprehensive Manual by Helen R. Bickmore, will help GUIDE you which is refeshing after so many try to SELL you.

In this seminal work Bill Geist explores the evidence surrounding the worlds oldes and best known conspiracy. From the dawn of humanity those who have tradtionaly run the monster truck and hair in a can conglomerates have conspired to kill the king of England. Not only does Bill Geist elucidate the vast conspiracy between these two infamous groups he spies on the British Royal Family and digs up some smelly dirt on Oliver Cromwell. I was lucky enough to have met Bill Geist (or a man who really looks like him) in a mens restroom in Queens and told him how much his book ment to me. He told me to get lost, so... but I really think that this book should be required reading for every school child or old person, heck evern forigners you know if they can read english.

Amen

A serious look at American industry, told with great humor!

Mr. Geist takes an extremely interesting look at entrepreneurs in America, proving things still are produced here and the American dream is alive and well. While he has obviously done his research and the underlying theme of the book can be serious, Mr. Geist has a wonderful, delightful sense of humor that permeates the book. After I finish this review, I'm going to seach for more books by him!
