they say that there are two kinds of books, the books of the day and the books of all times. This is one of the latter. The immortal words of Charles White have changed my life. Not a year goes by in which my fingers don't itch to pick up this old friend and thumb through it's familiar pages, enjoying the wisdom therin.

It was also an excellent reference source. It was well researched, concise and written elegently. Dr. White is a giant in his field and I also heard that he ran around the world. I can't verify this fact because I wasn't there but my friend Hugh has a T-shirt supporting this claim.

Fortner is pastor of Grace Baptist Church, Danville, KY. Besides being an author, and a pastor, he is well-known as a conference speaker. This a book of daily devotions, one for each year. There are, of course, a hundred or more books of devotions in print already, so why another one? If another one, why this particular one is worthy of your time and attention? Starting with Psalm 1:1-6, Fortner immediately sets the tone for the rest of the devotions. He is not only a preacher of the whole counsel of God (Acts 20:27), but he does it with such forthrightness that some will be taken aback. What other devotional writer will meet that standard? And especially, what Baptist preacher gives you the Doctrines of Grace with a sweetness of spirit as this one does? I can only think of Spurgeon's devotional classics. But having gone through Spurgeon, take this one next. You will find it on the same level of soundness. Day 5 has these words: "Rejoice evermore! Our sins are forgiven. We have the righteousness of God in Christ imputed to us. We are accepted in the Beloved. We are children of God by faith in Christ, heirs of God and joint-heirs with His Son, Jesus Christ. That One who loved us and gave himself for us is the sovereign Ruler of the universe. Why should we mourn? My Beloved is Mine, and I am my Beloved's (SOS 2:16). What then can keep me from rejoicing? I will rejoice in God my Saviour at all times. I cannot rejoice in sorrow, pain and trouble. But I can rejoice in my God in the midst of sorrow, pain and trouble." We highly recommend it as an excellent means of inciting you to rejoice evermore.

Ben Bova's 'Beauty of Light' offers a comprehensive exploration into the magic of light; its effects on our world and our perceptions. For all who work with light and colour, or who have an interest in the topic, this is a must for the library.

This book is not the complete encyclopedia of Navajo jewelry, but it's not meant to be. It is an excellent overview of the genre, with beautiful photographs of both very traditional Navajo jewelry as well as modern Navajo artists. For someone who wants an idea of what to look for and what is available, this is a brilliant resource. Ms. Bassman's narrative is informative and useful.
I would recommend this book to any interested in Native American jewelry, but probably not for the advanced collector.

What a wonderful book. So affirmative, so effortlessly good. It has great warmth and an unfailing sharpness. It is paradoxical in its expressive lucidity: taking on the inexpressible, the sublime, the whatever, the allever. This wonderful multi-levelled return to the loveliness of the myth has a relevance to everything. The style is radiant and deeply infectious but inimitable.This is surely pure neo-Keatsian post-modernism. The references reach out everywhere and the occasional aphorisms have an exactness of wit in every sense of that loaded word.

Everyone who loves poetry, has hope for the inexhaustability of the novel form, is possessed of a sense of humour and is not unfamiliar with how gentle irony can be, should, must, has to buy this brilliant book.

This book is an excellent resource for non-Muslims who may simply want to know more about Ramadan, have a Muslim employee, friend or relative. Even new Muslims can benefit from this easy-to-read guide It covers not only the mundane aspects of fasting but also touches on the sublime beauty and significance of this holy month to adherants of this world religion. The importance of books like this written by practitioners of the faith cannot be overstated. It would make an excellent addition to a school or public library.

Pastor Hayford has thoroughly explained the topic of praying in tongues. He does so by presenting some of his own experiences along with solid theological teaching. He answers many of the questions that I had about this topic and speaks to many of the misconceptions that I have heard expressed in the Christian community. Coming from a non-charismatic background, I have never received solid teaching on this subject and so had many questions about tongues. This book opened my eyes to what is available to the believer in the fullness of the Holy Spirit. I wish that I had read it many years ago. I have and will continue to recommend it to other people.
