Christopher's insight into the workings of the ever changing need to recreate yourself astonished me! Christopher, thank you for your book and your great advice!

The best part of the book for me were the makeover photos and realizing how much difference a good haircut and up-to-date makeup can make. The book is interesting and easy to read with lots of good commentary. But I was a little disappointed in the lack of some of the details and "how to's" on some of the subjects. I also recently bought How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 Pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better and found that book much better on detailed instructions on things like make up and hairstyles as well as mentioning a range of specific product brands that the author had tried and recommended. It was a much more detailed book. I think it was easier to relate to another woman on makeup and hair and clothing advice. Also, sometimes the make up suggestions in Staging Your Comeback seemed more suited to a photo session than to make up that I'd be wearing all day and in all kinds of temperature and activity situations. How Not to Look Old: Fast and Effortless Ways to Look 10 Years Younger, 10 Pounds Lighter, 10 Times Better seemed more suited to my real everyday world.

That said, I still enjoyed this book and think it was worth the price for the makeover photos. The other book's photos weren't as dramatic. I came away with a lot of good tips and good examples of "what to do" as well as "what not to do".

It is amazing how many self-help and beauty books don't have the pictures of exactly what you need to do to get the effect! I skip around in books, and this guide is great for that reading style. Christopher brings it all together with pictures, pointing out the subtle differences a change can make, precise suggestions and a touch of humor. The team that helped put this book together really did an amazing job, covering all the topics head to toe. This morning I read a little quipy remark (p. 65) and had a great laughing moment over my coffee. This book will give you enough ideas to explore fashion, style and beauty options that you thought might have already passed you by.

the book is totally awesome, and the circumstances in which i got it are as well, but we wont got into that. the few reviews i read before i decided i would include my opinion are dead on with the facts as this is a great book to have. worth the price. the girls are awesome. all that.
i couldnt agree more, but what i want to let everybody thinking about buying this is to know is if you go but it off of the suicidegirls site, it comes autographed by missy suicide (found of suicide girls) and courtney riot (art designer for the book) for 40 bucks AND as of right now, you would get a free dvd with your order.

with that being said, BUY THIS BOOK IF YOU LOVE HOT CHICKS.

Hello;

Beauty can be found everywhere. Beauty within beauty is an anthem. I love to watch tattos, piercing, hair styles, clothestyles on skin of the absolutely most beatyfull beings, and try to feel part of them, id like to know what they think how would they view me, I feel part of the same source, a lightbeam of their heat, statement, and yell out together to celebrate our culture, values, fears, and wishes. I sure hope this honest, unvaluavable art endures and thank you for sharing it.

As a coffee table book I think it will start many conversations and be the center of discussions for a long time to come at my place. The book itself is well made and the pictures are clear and crisp. The pages are heavy materials and look like they should last a good long time. I am very happy with my purchase!!

I really like this book. I am a beginner sewer and I have already made the Basic Waist Apron (the first of the patterns) and it was very simple. The instructions were very easy to follow. I love the stories that are told...and I am an antique lover so the vintage styles and prints are a great treat to look at.

I recommend this book if you want to learn to make aprons or read some really touching stories.

The Apron Book is not only a delightful walk down memory lane, it also inspires you to make your own aprons! I am now planning an "apron party" for a sleepover filled with over-30 Moms and I think we will make aprons for one of the fundraisers coming up. It is a great gift with an apron you made, as well. Each time I give this book as a gift, I get calls about all the things the recipient remembered. It's very fun!

I received the book yesterday and couldn't put it down. After dinner I curled up on the couch with it and read it cover to cover. If you are expecting this book to be a book full of apron patterns, you will be disapointed. However, if you love vintage textiles you will surely enjoy the pictures and apron stories. And for those with the creativity gene, who needs a pattern anyway? If I had to describe the book in two words, I would say it's nostalgic inspiration. Enjoy!

At first I was disappointed to see how thin this book was, I neglected to look at the page count before I bought it, but after reading it I was happy to find it gave all the information I was looking for to get under way with first time soap making and directions for further investigation. I am a newbie to soap making and would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get a fundamental background in what it takes to make soap and some basic information on first recipe soap bases. The recipes in the book are stripped down, no scents or other ingredients to complicate matters, which is good to get a handle on your first batch of soap. There are several recipes each with different qualities so these can be used for future experimentation with other ingredients. I bought this along with 'Soapmaking for Fun and Profit' by Maria Given Nerius and would place Anne Watson's book higher on the first time soap maker's purchase list than Nerius's.

All in all, a great book for the first time soap maker.

I bought this book before I had made a single batch of soap. It told me everything I needed to know and led me through it almost as well as a live teacher would have done. She covered every step of the process clearly and thoroughly. And the recipes she provided have so far turned out great.

I also had a question about what type of a certain oil to buy, so I emailed her at the address given in the book...and received a reply within a few hours! I was so impressed with her willingness to help. Wow.

The methods outlined in this book are safer and easier than those I have seen elsewhere...I can't say enough good things about the book or the author! If you want to start making your own cold process soap, or you want to update the method you have been using, this is the book for you.

While there aren't many recipes included, I like the author's writing style and feel strongly that this book should be included in every soapmaker's library.

I love this book i remember seeing it when i was like in the 7th grade an she had that picture of her in the book with no make up on an even pointed out flaws an zoomed in on it an then showed what make up does to her to cover it up for a model to do that with the rumours you hear bout how cut throat they are an how they like to pretend there perfect i started an all new respect for Ms.Tyra Banks, this book goes everywhere from Make-Up tips to relationships an sex its a good book for those girls who arent sure how to cope with break ups to how to apply eyeshadow correctly an do evening an day looks i would suggest this to ALL women of ALL ages especially to those who have teenagers an young adults like myself who are still trying to figure out who they are an also know there not alone as far as doing crazy things when it comes to guys. Tyra also gives personal stories of her experiences of broken hearts an even her stories on sex, (Also she has A lot of pictures of her modeling pics an of her family an just home photos.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It's more than just looking good. Yes, there is a ton of information on skin care, makeup, body care, etc, but Ms. Banks also includes self-esteem, sex, generosity, self-respect, smoking, alcohol, and more.

I expected a more frivolous book from a supermodel, but this is real quality. Tyra seems like someone you would know. She has such a friendly, sweet attitude reflected in her writing and is so humble.

This book is filled with pictures, lots of color, and is fun to read. Great book!

I fell in love with this book since its release and highly recommend it. Sure, it contains tons of photos of Tyra, but this is the very nature of her work, people... HELLOOOOO. And it's obvious this book was going to focus on her by its title, it isn't called 'YOUR Beauty, Inside Out', now is it? Anyways, looking at her never gets boring because the pics are all varying in style and purpose. If you're a fan of Tyra or appreciate sexy-yet-wholesome beauty & personality then you'll cherish this book. It's one-parts autobiography, one-parts pictorial, and 1-parts self-improvement advice, the works mixed together! I get a strong feeling that this was the intention of Banks & Blake and I think it makes for a unique and fun reading experience.

The book is well written and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I can already feel a change in my hair. I did the simple things suggested in the book and my hair was softer after just one day. There is a wealth of knowledge that allows you to make logical choices for improving your hair. My hair was dry, brittle and breaking even after using high end products. Just taking the time to be gentle and to pay attention to product ingredients made a huge difference immediately. If you wear your hair naturally, this book is a must read!

This is a great book! Very informative and detailed. The routine is simple to execute and doesn't confine you to specific products and brands. She rarely even mentions a specific product and because of this, the Grow It routine can be started immediately. No need to wait until you go out and buy products.

Chicoro has cut through the clutter and written a book that calls naturals to return to a simplified routine to achieve maximum results (length and health) and not let your hair care rule your life.

I love this book! I read the entire book in one day with highlighting. Now I'm going through it again while revamping my hair care regimen. I love Chicoro's model/process and I'm so excited about the Grow It process. Also, thank you for being one of my main inspirations! Before I even ordered your book, I had been coming to your page (fotki) and using your hair tips. Now, with the book, I can make some much needed regimen changes and grow my hair even more! See ya Chicoro and God Bless!

Smile :~)

P.S. - I definitely recommend this book to anyone that is already natural or thinking of going natural! She does not try to "pump" products but will definitely teach you a thing or two about hair care, that can be incorporated into your own regimen!

This is a wonderful book about the history of hats for Black Women (the reason hats are important, the pride they have when they wear them).

The book was used but in excellent condition and a reasonable price even with shipping charge.

I only wish the pictures had been in color to see these glorious hats more true to life. Although the black and white seems "right" I'd still like to know what the colors are.

I was skeptical because I thought the pictures being in black and white would not be appealing, but not so. It was absolutely beautiful. I relished every hat story and there were some BAD HATS. I mean they were sharp - African American style. This is a great book. I didn't want to put it down, and finished it in 2 days, only because I had to work, sleep, etc...

Every Woman Needs a Little Hattitude

Review Date: 2008-10-13
A woman's hat speaks long before she utters a word. So it says on the inside flap of this beautiful book of black and white photos of Black Women in Church Hats. From the first photo of Beth Hopkins and her mother to the last photo Sanclary Saunders with her hat, "without no veil," we are treated to respectful photos from the artful lens of Michael Cunningham.

Mr. Cunningham's artistic eye is what really makes this book. Well, his subjects do too and Craig Marberry's text adds to the book, but it's really Cunningham's artistry that makes this one of the best contemporary photography books I've seen in a long time.

The women pictured in this book all have hattitude and believe me, it's a good thing to have and it's catching, I know, because after spending a delightful couple hours reading the stories that accompany the photos, with Billie Holiday playing in the background, I knew I didn't have any good hats and I have a lot of hats, baseball hats, floppy hats and a safari hat or two, but nothing really cool. But I'm gonna get a cool hat or two. Every woman owes herself a cool hat.

I have read this book quite many years ago, or just two, and I can honestly say it's beautiful in the most breath-taking way. The photographs are seriously impressive and I don't think you've ever seen snowflakes quite like that. The text is great as well and you get to learn a lot of things about snowflakes.

Don't think this book would "steal" the mystery of snowflakes, as with everything in life, the more questions are answered, the more questions. So with this book.

I recommend it to anyone interested in snow and snowflakes in particular. It would make a wonderful gift, also. I can't recommend this book enough.

Well written, with unparalleled photos of snow crystals. The book contains accurate physics, nice insights into snow crystal morphology and growth and is at a level that will engage almost everyone. Enough information here for a physicist to enjoy the book, but presented in a way that will not intimidate the layman. Just gazing at the pictures of the snowflakes will inspire wonder at the beauty of these little ephemeral creations, and is an antidote for frazzled nerves any time of the day, in any season. I've bought several to give away and one for myself, and it probably won't be the last one.

The reviewer below who thought the author doesn't give enough credit to God for the amazing design of the snowflake, may be a little too demanding. Perhaps the author thought the little crystals speak for themselves, and lets the reader draw his own conclusions. I can't look at these beautiful pictures without marveling at a God who is so creative He doesn't "know when to quit"!

I could be considered prejudiced. I love Joyce Meyer. I've been to a couple of her conferences and i've read a couple of her books. I like Joyce Meyer because she speaks plain english. She's not out to tickle your ears. And the insights that she has in understanding the Bible and its practical application for today's living is invaluable. Contrary to overall opinion, we need to apply the Bible in our lives now more than ever. And if anyone has ever been the victim of any type of abuse and is trying to find a way to no longer allow the pain of the memories to continue to control their lives, and if you truly believe that our God is a God of comfort and love, this is a must read for you. I came away feeling a lot healthier and a little more healed than when I started.

As an author myself, this book is a bit of a challenge to read owing to the continual interruption of thought by the author's restating, rewording and redefining Biblical passages in parenthesis centered in most sentences throughout.

However, the content carefully targeted to those of us with trauma in our past and how to use faith to help with recovery is helpful though overly preachy throughout.

Beauty for Ashes was the second Joyce Meyer book I read. This book deals with a heavy subject: how child abuse, specifically sexual abuse, damages your life, and what you can do to be freed emotionally and spiritually from your past. There are a lot of books on the market that deal with childhood sexual abuse (though not enough), but, aside from "The Courage to Heal," this is, hands down, the best. It's practical and empathetic, and, in my copy, almost every single page has something scribbled in the margin or highlighted, because it's all so applicable. The reason is that Joyce has been there: she endured unbelievable struggles as a child and young adult, dealt with it like so many survivors do, by throwing up walls and becomming negative (understandably), and then came out the other side.

While her writing style is easy and conversational, this book is hard. I'm on my second read through right now, actually, I'm going slow, one chapter every couple days, giving time for the concepts of the book to actually sink in. My friend recommends reading Battlefield before this book, and I agree; though the book stands on its own, Battlefield of the Mind will prepare you for the intense mental and spiritual effort you'll start. Dealing with abuse is always tough, always, and it's especially tough when we do it contrary to our human nature. It feels good to want vengance, to hate, to withold forgiveness (or, at least, we think it feels good), but this book breaks down walls. And like resetting a broken bone that has healed wrong, it HURTS. But it's a good hurt, and I feel that I"m a better person for reading his book.

I found this book in a thriftstore. I only bought it because I recognized that K.M. Peyton was the author of Fly-By-Night, one of my favorites as child. I took Blind Beauty home and read it in one night. I love this story because it isn't overly sentimental the way many girl-and-horse stories tend to be. I loved the main character, a gutsy (and imperfect) young girl, and of course I loved the horse, an ugly oversized Thoroughbred named Buffoon, who you just can't help but root for. SPOILER ALERT - the best part of this story is the Grand National race at the end. Peyton tells the story from the rider's point of view - what it feels like charging around that dangerous course, something that wasn't done in National Velvet (that always disappointed me)- very exciting!!! I recommend this book to horselovers of all ages.

When I first started reading this book I wasn't sure if I would like it. I found Tessa a little too violent. And it looked really long, like it could drag a little. But once I got into it I loved it and it didn't drag. Buffoon is the most lovable and sweet horse you'll ever read about. The parts told from his point of view will break heart and just melt you. There are a couple parts that almost made me cry when certain race horses died. I was horriffied, relieved, amazed, disgusted, excited and deeply moved at different parts in this book. Once you get past the beginning this book is just amazing. So realistic, especially during the races. Tessa is a visciously independent girl and Buffoon is the sweetest, ugliest horse around. They over come huge trials, seperation, doubt, and everything else. It is like no other horse book. Though it may sound the same, a girl, a horse an awful step-father. K.M.Peyton makes this book totally unique and totally amazing. You just have to read it to believe it.

First thing I have to say is how surprised I am that this book was labeled for 10 year-olds and up, it contains violence and scenes where some of the characters are drunk. In the beginning of the book, Tessa is thinking of ways she would like to kill her stepfather-not very appropriate for a 10 year-old. This book was very good otherwise. It was emotional, exciting, and inspiring. K.M. Peyton is obviously very knowledgeable about horses and racing. One of my favorite books, but for younger readers under 12 I wouldn't recommend it unless with a parent's discretion.
P.S., I wanted to give the book 4 1/2 stars, but it wouldn't let me do it. Anyone know how to give 1/2 a star???

When I first picked up Blind Beauty, a book by K M Peyton, I wasn't expecting much of it, it was just going to be another silly horse book I'd read to pass the time. I couldn't have been any more wrong. Blind Beauty is a story of a girl and a horse that don't fit in and have troubled lives. They find each other by destiny, and develop an undying bond of love. The girl, Tessa, has always loved horses, and finds peace and serenity in riding her cherished horse, Buffoon, through the rolling green hills of a steeplechase farm called Sparrows Wyck. Through experience, she becomes a skilled rider and begins to dream of riding in the Grand National. Blind Beauty is a story of love, hope, and dreams that stay true through whatever life throws at you, and I highly recommend it.
