Helped me to understand diabetes better. Review Date: 2008-05-23
There are quite a few reviews that say diabetics need to avoid carbohydrates-that's horse and buggy thinking. It is now known that diabetics need carbohydrates-it is the fuel that our bodies use. What diabetics need to change is the source of those carbohydrates. The less refined food we eat the better blood sugar control we have. As Dr. Whitaker says it's not the quantity of carbohydrates it's the quality. So those people with negative reviews either haven't kept up to date with the latest diabetes information or they didn't read the book. I'm even going to send this to my sister whose diabetes is out of control. Maybe it will help her as it's done for others.

It Works! Review Date: 2007-10-05
I followed the menus and recipes completely, which turned out to be somewhat difficult as i had never previously used so much fresh produce, and it takes longer to prepare than tossing something in the microwave or stopping in at a fast food place. I was never hungry, however, and my craving for sweets disappeared during the first couple of weeks.
It has a great resource section.
The single most important thing about the book? It worked for me.

If you have Arthritis- Read this BookReview Date: 2008-02-25
Previously I had been diagnosed with arthritis and treated for symtoms and became progressively worse. Within two weeks of implementing the changes outlined in this book; both diet changes and adding 5 grams of enteric-coated fish oil per day I had significant reduction in the swelling and inflammation.
To understand how inflammation works on the body and to reduce a host of symptoms and beliefs associated with Alzheimers, etc. this book is a valuable tool for self-enlightment. Many physicians today don't take the time to treat underlying causes of illnesses before they progress to more serious problems for the patient. Read this book and Help Yourself. It won't do any harm and may do you a world of good.

The PCOS Diet Book: How You Can Use the Nutritional Approach to Deal with Polycystic Ovary SyndromeReview Date: 2008-02-26
This book helps us to get rid of the weight much better than a regular diet.
Total waste of moneyReview Date: 2007-04-08
This book is falsly titled so that the consumer thinks it is a diet book for people who have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Note it even mentions weight loss on the cover as well as the word 'Diet'. It is not a weight loss diet book for people with PCOS.
There is a 10 page 'sample menu and recipies' starting on page 97. I wrongly assummed this was a diet plan when I bought the book. But it is not.
Further into the book there is a chapter titled 'Losing Weight - Breaking the PCOS cycle' which begins on page 177. In this chapter there is a one day sample menu.
It appears that there is only one day of a sample diet day in the whole book that is actually directly related to weight loss.
I bought this book as I have PCOS and I wanted a diet book so I could lose weight.
It is wrong to let the title remain as is because this book is not for people who want to lose weight who have PCOS.
I have asked the publishers for my money back.
Also note that the book is quite repetitative and information contained in it quotes 'internet surveys' - these are hardly credible sources and should not be taken seriously by anyone except teenagers who delight in reading daily horoscopes.
Any book about diet should at the very least include studies that have been tested for scientific rigor and should be written by at least a doctor or dietitian.
I find the book is not at all scientific. PCOS is all about hormone levels thus lack of scientific rigor might actually be detrimental to whoever buys it.
The book also states to eat brocolli 'because it burns calories chewing it'. Oh heavens save me please :)
What a total lack of money!!!

Healthy Diabetic Eating made EasyReview Date: 2008-09-19
The diabetic information is easily understood and make sense to the lay person. I love the mealplans that are laid out and the recipes for the most part are excellent. Had to make a couple of adjustments on seasonings for personal taste, but have throughly enjoyed them. I make the full recipes that are for 4, measure the servings out, and freeze the other portions. That way I don't have to make the recipes every month. The meal plan allows you to choose between a 20, 40 or 60 carb day all at a glance. They have provided food lists so you can make your own plans when you want.
Thank you for this book, it has made my life as a diabetic soooo much better and easier.

The suggestions in eating right, etc, are wonderful suggestions. Eat natural foods, (not the bread from the store that can contain up to 500% of the amount of yeast found in home made breads), etc. Too much yeast is not good for you but you don't need a book to tell you so.

A powerful incentive to do something about heart attack riskReview Date: 2001-03-04
This is a great book for people who fit this profile. Matthew Bayan's description of his own heart attack is a powerful incentive to do something about the risk of a heart attack. He explains why his attempts to eat a low fat, low cholesterol diet only increased his cholesterol. If these people don't eat some cholesterol in their diet, their bodies will produce a great quantity of cholesterol on their own. Unfortunately, not all physicians know about the apoB gene and it`s significance on diet. But this book will provide enough information to help the informed patient to communicate better with his physician.
So no, if you thought this was a book saying it's okay to eat a fatty diet, it's not. It's a very sensible person's journey through the medical maze back to health - which just might help about 20% of the population.

Best book on heart diseaseReview Date: 2001-02-18
You need to read this book if you have any family history of heart disease, stroke or diabetes, even if you follow a healthy lifestyle, exercise and watch your diet. This book is not about eating fat, its about newer, more accurate blood tests that can find risk factors that standard tests do not.
Since reading and following this book, I have dropped my triglycerides from 700 to 66 and my cholesterol from 230 to 146. My waist has gone from 38 to 34. I still need to raise my HDL from 35 and lower my lipoprotein (a), which I will do with niacin and more exercise.
The air ambulance cost me $9500, the angioplasty $17,000 and the emergency room, hospital stays and rehab another $10,000. I still get angina from time to time. I will always face the prospect of restenosis. It will be cheaper for you if you buy the book.

i couldn't understand return instructions so i wrote amazon twice. weeks have gone by with no response.
i got in touch with dhl and they instructed me how to return book. good thing cause amazon couldn't be bothered.
i returned the unopened package. the box was crushed so badly dhl couldn't scan the shipping label.
haven't heard a word from amazon until this review solicitation.
bottom line is don't do business with amazon they are a ripoff and are clueless as how to properly do business.
thank you for you time
