As a mom of a pink princess obsessed 4yr. old, this book is right up her alley! The story is fun and well written. I love this Sassie character! The illustrations are bright and eye catching, such a fun and whimsical book that my daughter hasn't let out of her sight! (let alone, let her younger sister even touch!) We've even decided we're going to buy another copy to donate to her preschool so they can fall in love with it as well!

One of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen... BRAVO!!

I have been a fan of Dena's work for years. Sassafras's illustrations manage to capture the emotions of the spoiled pink poodle perfectly. The illustrations are colorful, whimsical, and utterly delightful. Some of the best children's book illustrations I have ever seen, and it is now my two children's absolutely favorite book.

I absolutely LOVED Sassafrass. It perfectly captures in a comedic way how success can change and warp a personality, and how when a person (or a dog) starts to believe her own publicity, she can lose track of who she really is. Staying true to yourself and keeping your head on straight in good times and in bad is a great message for children and adults. And this tale is told with such a light touch--that it's like eating a chocolate souffle! Brava Sassie! You are adorable!

I just went to Princes of Wales Island, Thorne Bay, Alaska from Dallas, Texas. I became really intersted in bears after seeing black bears on various rivers that I was fly fishing for salmon on around the area of Thorne Bay. I found this book in a book store in Bellingham, Washington on my return back to Texas. Wonderful pictures and the stories are mind boggling. I enjoyed this book so much and learned a great deal more about bears. I know in the future, I will be more "cautious" when in bear country. I have heard several of those same rumors about bears. I would highly recommed this book to anyone. Absolutely fascinating. The photography is outstanding. The author is "gutsy".

Buy it for the pictures, enjoy it for the text!

This book is another fine example of John Pezzenti's work. The pasion he has for bears and all wildlife comes through in every picture. While I and many others will buy this book for the pictures, which alone is worth the price, reading the text brought a new level of understanding and appreciation for both the bears and John.
While not all of the book is about Alaska, I highly recomend this book to all Alaskans, as well as people who not as fortunate to live here.

In the 90's when I lived in Alaska I pursued that lands great mammals with my camera. Along the way I met John Pezzenti. Not only is he an author who captures the mystery and thrill of wildlife adventure photography through a unique voice, he is one of the best nature and wildlife photographers in the world. This stunning book adds another notch onto his Nikon. It helped me be there again, but this time sitting with a cup of tea instead of the rain, bugs, miserable weather, and other hardships that John lives with daily. Buy this book! You'll love it too!

The stories John shares with us in Shooting Bears:, both with his pen, and with his camera, are a pricless treasure that will leave you in awe of these wonderful wild animals and in wonder at this artists extreme talent. John takes you along in his travels and shows you

Ms. Bogan put a lot of detail in to this book and she put a lot of time into her pictures. Spike In The City is written so well that it makes you want to read on and on. Spike In The City is a blast both for the adult and the little one listening (or reading) with you. We take it off the book shelf often and laugh and laugh about how life in the city must be or we reminisce about our own experiences in the big city. How many times have you been splashed by someone who doesn't even notice or step in disgusting gum left there by someone who didn't even care? Then, you discover that the city is actually a pretty neat place, a great place to meet new friends and do some of the same things you might just do at home.

My sons get a kick out of the hilarious illustrations and my little one learned to read with it. How much fun is to make a huge growling sound when you are 5 years old? Nothing beats that.

Moving stories for Animal Lovers

Review Date: 2008-04-22
This lovely book by animal communicator Patty Summers contains moving stories from animals she met while developing her skills. As she learns to trust in her heart and intuition, she realizes that all beings, furred, feathered or scaled, all have something important to contribute. A gentle guide, she encourages the reader to acknowledge and celebrate all sentient beings.

While other books focus on technique (see anything by Marta Williams or Amelia Kincade), this one opens a wonderful world of possibility. If I have one quibble, it is that the messages from the animals at the end of each chapter sound alike...and an awful bit like AL Gore..but overall this is a heartwarming delight.

It is a great book very well done but...... my 4 year old daughter liked the story unfortunately, now she is scared to go to sleep because she thinks there is an aligator, that mommy and daddy cant see, under her bed. This is no fault of the book but teachers need to prepair parents for possible fallout.

"There's an Alligator Under My Bed" was on my entering-kindergartner's summer reading list and I can certainly understand why. It is a wonderful story about a little boy who conquers his fears. In this case, a large alligator that has taken up residency under his bed.

Mercer Meyer's illustrations are very entertaining and not at all scary, and I am happy to say that the boy's problem is resolved by brains, not brawn.

My kids love it.

If we are have a crazy day, I just pull out "There's An Alligatior Under My Bed" and the classroom goes silent as a room full of preschoolers sit and listen quietly mesmerized by this story. What more can I say. I love this book!

Like so many of us when we were children, our young hero in _There's an Alligator Under My Bed_ has trouble getting into bed safely due to the dangers that lurk under his bed. Since his parents never see the creature, he decides he must deal with it himself.

With one or two sentences per page, this is a great book to read to your toddlers and preschoolers to start a discussion about bedtime fears.

Why didn't his parents ever see the alligator? Can alligators really live under beds?

Since we often read the same books over and over and over again, I try and find books that my husband and I enjoy reading as well as ones that our girls will enjoy. This series by Mo Willems is GREAT! Good starter books for our girls to start reading but hilarious as well. We all laugh. Mo Willem's other books are just as fantastic. You should check them all out. Clever, smart and the illustrations are perfect. All children books should be as good.

This reviewer recently adopted a Basset-mix puppy (that's him on my profile page) from a shelter/rescue (and encourages all of you reading this to consider giving a rescue/shelter dog a home, too!) It appears that my puppy is a Basset/Coonhound mix. Which brought to mind the question - how, logistically, could a Basset and Coonhound mix? You will be pleased to know that this fun photo story does NOT answer that question.

Once upon a time, Wilson the Pug, descendant of Pug-tzu, "author" and star of The Tao of Pug, fell in love with Hedy, who was "unlike the other pugs I'd met before. With her big floppy ears, prominent muzzle and huge paws, she was a vision of lovliness." Time passed. And Wilson saw his love no more. He went to her house. And " "a huge dog, the biggest I'd ever seen!" appears at the door. Oh My! A Mastiff! But gazing into her big brown eyes, "I got a whiff of her sweetly biscuited breath." It's Hedy stuff! She isn't a homely pug - but a marvelous mastiff!

Our hero and heroine may be parted by humans - unless the dogs come up with a Taoist plan! The words and photos along the way will charm children and dogs of all ages.

My original quandry remains unanswered after the Afterward by Wilson: "Fortunately, I was a neutered pug, because Hedy and I felt strongly that the world did not need a new breed of mastug or pugstiff."

Great resource for any future and present owner

I bought the first edition of this book about 11 years ago when I purchased my second Rott. Every dog owner owes it to their dog to be well informed about their dog's requirements, quirks, health issues, thraining requirements and characteristics - and this books gives you the info you need. For Rottweiler owners it is even more important to understand your breed because a Rottie out of control just reinforces the stigma attached to the breed - and they can be dangerous. Rotties are wonderful dogs and after owning Rotts for more than 20 years I have learned a lot of do's and don'ts. Do yourself a favor read this book before you get a Rottie and you and your dog will be so much better off. It includes wonderful advice on training and anything you should know to make sure your dog is well socialized, healthy and sane. I loved this book for its well rounded advice and explanations on the differend breed standards based on geography. It's basic enough for the beginner to get lots and lots of good advice even if you don't want to breed or show. Be aware of the downsides of the breed, health issues and the associated cost, exercise requirements, top dollar for good diet - it makes your dog live longer and healthier. Rotties, especially males, need a firm handler, NOT a brutal one but one that they can look up to. They are not a beginner dog and too many of them end up at the pound because yet another person thought they could have one without dedicating the right amount of time. If you want one, read this book first and then think twice. If you are sure you can take on the challenge, you will be rewarded with the most loyal friend you can imagine!

Have you ever thought of a cow in a cat's point of view? Well in the book Upchuck and the Rotten Willy you will find a lot of things in a cats point of view. In Chuck` s point of view if you haven't eaten spaghetti you haven't lived.
Have you ever just sat on a fence all morning telling jokes? Just hanging out with friends. If not, Chuck will tell you all about it. In this book at times I think Chuck talks and thinks like a person. He thinks about things that most people wouldn't thing twice about.
This book is really funny in the first part of the story when the 2 friends (Tom & Chuck) make fun of the dogs at the park. "Why are dogs noses so flat?" " From chasing parked cars."
If you like animals, horsing around, or if you like spaghetti this is the right book for YOU!

If you like animal books this is the book for you. It is adventerous, funny, sad, and loveable! It is the most wonderful book I have ever read. You have to read it; it is so exciting you'll not want to put this book down! You'll also want to read it over and over again.

My 8 1/2 year old got this book and asked me to read it to him every night. I also fell in love with this book and it was so well written. I am now going to get all of the sequels to this book as a special surprise for Christmas. A story of friendship and sharing life together, it warmed our hearts. The book also kept us both in stitches. We would read paragraphs over and over just to get a good laugh! It was wonderful time together laughing and learning about what life as a cat would be. I loved the parts where the cats would make fun of the dogs.
