Not as entertaining as dog a day but still high quality and a valuable product.

This calendar as well as the Cat Gallery calendar are traditional holiday gifts in our family. Every year we have several requests for one or the other. I believe I bought 6 this year! I start getting requests for this back in October/early November. It is the gift that keeps on giving all year. This Gallery edition is far superior to the regular page a day calendar; its' photographs are outstanding!

Here's an honest opinion from an 8-year old. We read Fisherman's Son together and loved it. Here's what my daughter said:

The Fisherman's son is about unlocking a secret. The main character is a little boy, named Wiley. Wiley has a big adventure under water with his dolphin friend, Elden. At the end the end of the book, Elden's friend, Beluga, the whale, helps them to save six lost children. Along the way, Wiley has to face a big bear and her cub, which has one eye. He also has to battle a big, tough monster deep below the sea.

My favorite part of the book is when Wiley meets Elden because I would like to meet a dolphin one day, and because Elden is my favorite character. The words in the story really helped me with my school strategy. We are learning about picturing, which is making pictures in your mind as you read the story. This story really describes what Wiley and Elden are doing. I love this book!

The imagination of this writer is fantastic. I am truly impressed that a writer would go to such depths of research to make the book authentic. I would also recommend "Twilight" and "Moonspins and Widdershins" Frances Kenney

Marilyn Peake skillfully takes her readers along with her on a boy's journey of self discovery, a tale that harkens sweetly back to our childhood stories of forests and bears, dolphins and fairy godmothers. Her visual descriptive details are sharp and vivid, breathtakingly drawing you into the storyline. One cannot help but feel Wiley's sadness over the loss of a loved one in the very beginning.

The repetition of the phrase `Drink deeply by land or sea. Earth comes only once' only heightens your curiosity to find out what this actually means.

Her short chapters and simplistic words weave an enchanting tale keeping the flow of the story moving along at a nice dramatic pace for all ages to read.

The mapping of this mystical book is cleverly laid out for the reader to experience. The historical journey through a city that once lived in pure euphoria is enchanting. A feel of `Atlantis is alive' titillates the reader.

This classical `sit by the fireplace' reading can be handed down and read for many generations to come. Peake crafts a drawing tale of a young lad who is trying to come to terms over a devastating loss, a drunken father, and a quest that has him bewildered.

Although geared for the younger adult reader, this is a gem of a story to suit all ages.

A good story that also encourages learning new words is always a plus.

Likewise, you may want to talk with your children about Wiley's home, very much like nineteenth century Ireland, though the author never puts a name to the island (all the more appropriate for a child's fantasy). As the story moves into the briny deep of the North Atlantic Ocean, there's even more to pique your child's intellect along with his/her imagination.

But all along Wiley's far journey , your child is in store for deeper learning. Strength of character. Honor and ethics. Belief and confidence in self and the ability to face great adversity, whether in the family or in the world. They're all within these pages.

I purchased this thinking it was going to be different from the other one titled similarily but smaller...but most of the information was the same. THere was however, additional information - like birds, grasses, etc. than just Shells. GOod book.

If you've picked-up shells off of Florida's beaches and wanted to be able to identify them, then this book is for you! It offers great descriptions and photographs to assist you in being able to easily identify the shells and other things you find on the beach. I highly recommend this book! It's got a wealth of information "...for the curious beachcomber:)"

A great one-for-all book. The photography and information are outstanding. No need to haul around multiple books.

Living near the ocean I wanted to learn more about what all I see on the beach. I was in search of a book that would help me learn more and included pictures to help identify (pictures as opposed to drawing illustrations). I came across this book and liked the other reviews it received, so I ordered it. This book is by far one of the best books I've ever purchased! So much information for the price. It's an amazing book. Packed with great full-color photos of all the things I've seen on the beach and others I'll start keeping an eye open for. Wonderful layout, great images, just enough information, etc. This book will be one that my family uses for many years to come. It's awesome! Even my 4 year old was in awe over the pictures and started learning new things as she kept asking me what everything was. Two thumbs way up on this one. I can't see anyone purchasing this book and being disappointed.

I took this book to North Captiva Island and was amazed on how much info is in it. We went with a group of 17 and any questions anyone had we could look up. Anything to seashells, birds, fish we caught, trees turtles, and more. I love this book!! It's a must have for anyone looking for info on Florida!!!

We bought this book to accompany the Butterfly Pavilion from amazon.com. This book was a little above her level of understanding, she is only 2 after all. She did get the gist of it. Great illustrations and concise.

Excellent book- my 3 & 5 yr. olds loved it, and it was easy enough for them to understand, yet descriptive enough that they were intrigued. We bought it in preparation for buying a butterfly habitat to watch the process ourselves. Great learning experience.

I bought this book with the butterfly graden and we gave it as a birthday present. By the time the caterpillars came in the mail she was so excited and she new everything that was going to happen. This was propbably the best birthday gift I could have given an animal loving child. I will give this gift over and over again.

I bought this book for my friend's three-year old, who has been facinated recently with butterflies. I can see that he'll be interested now - and he'll be able to grow into the more detailed information later.

in this book, Mr. baldwin makes an emergency stop @ heartland, and they discover tys dad have transported trucks in an illegal trailer. amy + ty treat the horses, but the ppl who asked mr baldwin 2 transport the horses, still wanna deliver the poor, dehydrated horses 2 an aution house. will mr. baldwin lose his job? will the horses die? u wont no till u read this fantastic book!

I really enjoyed reading A Season of Hope. I could not put the book down. Lauren Brooke is the very best author for horse books. If you like horses YOU MUST READ THEESE BOOKS or you will miss out on something so wonderful that there is no word to describe it. I really wish that there were more than twenty books in the series. A Season of Hope is about a girl named Amy and how she is faced with the horrors of animal cruelty to horses, although she could be dealing with the law Amy tries everything she can to help the horses. Amy is greatly helped by her sister Lou, her boyfriend Ty who is also a stable hand, Amy and Lou's grandpa, Lou's fiancé also the vet Scott, Joni a stable hand, and somehow Ty's father who hated horses but changed his mind after he spent time with them and then he finally understood that Ty belonged to work at Heartland. The phrase healing horses healing hearts means that in every book horses are healed and a person or people learn valuable life lessons. I love the Heartland books so much that for every book in the series I would give them all five stars, even more than that if I could. The Heartland books make me feel that I am inside the book watching it all. It seems as if I am watching television but different. My favorite part in the book would definitely be the ending but... you won't find out the ending unless you read it!

i absolutly love heartland books i wish lauren brooke wrote more than just 20!!! i been reading the series for years now and they never get boring i luv em!!!

This book is one of the best heartland books and i should know. I've read them all. As a surprising twist that takes place the whole book(if you didnt read the back)Ty's dad brings a truckload of horses that were to be sold in an auction house. All the horses were in very bad condition. Three of which died. You'll have to read the book to find out the rest. And you should. This is a really great book!

This book tells a lot about society. It is about horses that either have problems or are being abused. What does that say about people in general? It tells us some people can be cruel. Society does not help horses that have been hurt or abandoned. People should not be allowed to have pets if they dont take care of them. That is where society comes in. People should prove that they are mature or responsible to take care of a pet before they purchase it. People should be able to have pets, as long as they take care of them properly and treat them kindly.
The characters in this story are very similar to the people I know. The main character and I both like animals, expecialy horses. Amy is the main character. She helps abused horses with their problems and fears. She and I both believe that no animal should be tormented. Other characters like Ty and Nacy are like my mom and dad. Ty is like my dad becuase Ty helps around the stables and my dad is like that too. Nancy is like my mom she is kind and supports peoples ideas. My mom is very nice and she will support almost everyone's opinion. So all the characters do resemble friends and family even though they are different people.
There are a couple different themes in this book. One is that you should always treat your pets with respect, no matter how mean they are. Two, is to always support your friends. If they have an idea you should be bringing them up, not pushing them down. Last, but not least is to always help others. This is a very important one because people who need your help may need a friend as well. If you are able to help them out, you should also be able to be their friend and help them later on if they need it. So always help and be a friend to everyone!!

I love this series and ever since i read the first one i knew i had to finish the lot...i actually took into account what Lauren Brookes was writing to and have tried several of the methods mentioned on my own horses only to result in success.. i would reccomend this series to all it is a great storyline!

Great book. My daughter is 10 and she loved the entire series.

This series is about a stable called Heartland and horses that come here are usually afraid of something or they have been abused, so they cure them by using herbal remedies and patience. Amy, who is the main character, does the healing and is also heeling her grief of her mother who died in a car crash when saving an abandoned horse on a stormy night.
In book 16 of the series, Ben, one of the stable hands is leaving so he can concentrate on showing his horse Red more. So Heartland finds a new stable hand named Joni who already knows a lot of the herbal remedies they use and how to use them. Also in this Heartland book right now they are curing a police horse named Venture who was injured in a tornado by falling tires while his rider Sergeant Garcia was trying to rescue kids in a trapped car. Venture is all healed, but starts rearing and bucking at the sight of the saddle, saddle pad, and bridle so any thing to do with tack. Amy gets concerned when he makes no progress at all. So if you want to find out what happens to Venture and all the rest at Heartland you will have to read the book. There are a total of 20 numbered books and a special edition book in the Heartland series.

My daugter read this book without putting it down. All the books in this series are a good read and keeps the girls wanting more.

This is the best book! I use it in my Kindergarten classroom when we do a thematic unit on bugs. We act out the story then talk about the ending.

I loved this book and the intention the author had to encourage children to consider the moral of the story. Also for a children's book it is well written with amusing rhymes. The kids also loved hearing this story. The only problem was this - they got absolutely the wrong message from it!

The book presents two arguments - the ant pleading for its life, and the boy who questions the value of the ant's life. But the author wrote the boy's side of the story so pleasingly that my kids far more enjoyed siding with the boy than with the ant, despite explanation, to my complete despair! My young listeners were quite young, ages 2-3, so perhaps this book would be better for a slightly older child.

This wonderful book gives the reader a great feeling for this poor ant . This little ant has to negotiate for his life!! The only way to make the kid with the big shoe know how it feels to be squished is to turn the tables and make him realize what it feels like to be under an Ants' foot. This book is a must have. It teaches compassion, negotiation, and how to see the world through someonelses eyes.

I am a 3rd grade teacher, and I use this book in my classroom to teach about bullying, peer pressure (the boy's friends are encouraging him to squish the ant), and empathy. My students love it! I wish I could find a poster of the page where the ant is looming over the boy and asking "If you were me, and I were you, what would you want me to do?" What an incredible lesson for kids! The best part is that the book ends with the shoe looming over the ant and leaves the ending up to the reader. Kids love writing (or just inventing) their own endings! GREAT BOOK!

This is an excellent book about an ant who has to convince a boy why he should not squish him with his shoe. It sends a wonderful message to children that you should treat others how you would want to be treated. This rhyming text is very comical to read and the illustrations are excellent. It is a wonderful book for elementary students!

This is a great book to have on hand. Especially for animal lovers. It has different chapters for the differant animals. This book is also easy to read.

My dogs, cats and my family are so happy about this book because it teaches using natural remedies to cure common ailments in pets. I mean, we don't want to use flea/tick repellents that can harm us... so using aromatherapy (in right doses) is so much safer. Besides, like lavender and ylang ylang aromatherapy--going natural smells so much better!

I was very impressed with the information and the format of the book. I don't necessarily totally agree with all the information presented, but it was very well done and I would recommend this book to anyone interested in using essential oils on their animals.

This was another great book on pet healing. Our pets can benefit from many of these healing methods used for people. This was put together very nice. I use it alot.

Very informative book with lots of practical information. Detailed recipies for making your own aromatherpay/essential oil blends for anxiety, skin problems, fleas, ticks and more. Has resource guide on where to find quality products and also advice on what to look for in a quality product if shopping elsewhere.

My children all grew up on this one, by not only learning animals, but being proud of who you are. I have been reading it every night to my 18 month old for a year. He wont go tho bed without it, and he has alredy learned how to recognize all the animals in the book.

I love this book. I read this book to my neice everytime she comes to visit. It has a wonderful moral to the story and kids are sure to really be engaged in the story everytime you read it!

My toddler son received this book as a gift for his first birthday. It came highly recommended from a teen friend who had treasured it as a childhood favorite. We weren't disappointed. I am not sure if it is the language, simple illustrations, or the premise but he never tires of It's Not Easy Being a Bunny. Not only do we recommend this book, we have already purchased it for other first birthday gifts. We give it an unequivocal A+ rating.

My little guy doesn't have any patience for books except for this one and "Put Me in the Zoo". We have to read this to him almost 4 times a day, and he can finish the ends of the sentences. It's so fun to see him enjoy books, and hopefully it will introduce him to other books too. I highly recommend this one. It's fun, helps with animal recognition, etc..

Now it's my daughter's (3 years old) favorite book.
I don't know how long it's going to last, but it's been at least 3 weeks that we read this book a couple of time every day.
She knows every word in it. And she loves the fun sounds I make( for Moose and to show the expression of P.J. when he tried to live with the skunks)
I don't know how deep she can understand it right now, but it's fun to read and our whole family enjoys it, bacause at least once a day my daughter asks everyone to listen to it.
I'm sure that it will be a nice book for early readers, because of the repetitive words.

Our soldiers who have returned from Iraq should be reading this; war is a godless thing. I've never been on the side of a German soldier before. I gather that even though Georg fought for Germany that he wasn't a Nazi...something I didn't know before about the German Army. Georg's letters to his Mutti evoke a sense of wonder, his thoughts are so positive and strong.

His descriptions of the drudgery, and the truly horrific conditions he survived, as well as the eventual harsh decisions he had to make in order to survive are compelling. The treatment of the soldiers at the end, aside from the charity of civilians, was horrific and reminds me of our own situation in the US at Walter Reed Hospital.

Reading Rauch's book reminded me of Alvin Kernan's book Crossing the Line. If you found either compelling, then I'd recommend you read the other. They are vitally different, but powerfully similar in their very real, personal and detailed personal history of WWII. They ought to be required reading. Not since I read Stalingrad have I felt this way about a book on WWII.

This true story of Georg's perilous, horrific term as a soldier in WW 11 includes loving letters home to his mother and the realities of the war he spared her. His style reveals his intelligence and humor in the face of starvation, frozen conditions, illness, and battle. There is a bittersweet charm in his voice which captivates the reader from beginnng to end.

I am an old man and I read a lot of books and always have. I just finished The Jew With the Iron Cross and remember no book that I have enjoyed more. We go with this author as he goes reluctantly into war and go step by step with him to it's end. We see much of the inhumanity to man and the unbelievable depravity into which some fall. We also see a spirit in a young, normal, intelligent man that cannot be broken. This is an outstanding true account of three years of the life of an incredible individual. I remember no other book that I finished with tears running down my cheeks. This is a story that will remain with the reader forever.

Georg Raush's memoir of his experiences during WWII is a powerful and moving story of how an individual can get caught up in a conflict not of his own making. His honesty, humanity and wit shine through at almost every turn of the page. I was particulary impressed with his strength of mind and perserverence in dealing with a continually and worsening horrible situation. His strong ties to his mother and family were, in my mind, a large part of how and why he survived. I believe he was destined to survive, in part, in order to share his story. I had the priviledge and pleasure of meeting the author a couple of years ago in the course of a trip to Mexico. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to understand what war is like and what it does to its participants.
