I liked how easy the healing methods are to perform. The pictures made it very clear. The books describes some very important processes to keep in mind, however seeminly obvious, that are often overlooked or forgotten over time. There is so much information put into this book, even the glossary is a book in itself. Some of the information is a bit over my head; I can only hope to understand more the next time I pick it up.

This book is AWESOME !

The book is easy to read, understand and administer. I believe it is a MUST for anyone that is in the healing profession. Teaching a variety of seminars and classes I have now made this a requirement for all my students. The basics are there in a way that even the beginner can understand and use immediately. Common sense and caveats that are many times forgotten or never spoken about in classes and healing situations are explained and given in very clear directions. Thank you, Starr Fuentes, for creating this wonderful manual that all walks of life and professions can utilize. Every home should have one...it's the first aid kit of today.

I am so grateful for the Healing with Energy book. Grateful for the gifts from a Master healer written in simplicity and clarity.
Grateful for the practical techniques making every healing session more powerful and creative.

I have studied Light, magic and healing with Starr Fuentes before, and this book making it easier for me to take the spiritual teachings and downloads and manifest them as a healer on the physical plane.
My favorite teachings in this book is the work with the four elements, and being re-minded to take myself out of the way so in full presence the source can heal through our physical vessel.

An artist and lightworker I was drawn to the work of Starr Fuentes. When I opened Healing With Energy for the first time and began reading the acknowledgements I felt a surge of energy entering my crown chakra. Instantly I knew that I was receiving an energetic empowerment. Empowerment - that's a great word to use to describe Healing With Energy. It is readily apparent that Fuentes has synthesized a vast body of knowledge to bring forward this book. Healing With Energy assumes a familiarity with basic metaphysical healing concepts and offers information for the next level, going well beyond chakra basics. Within its pages are many simple, subtle treasures which when integrated can enable a tremendous leap forward in one's ability to work with energy and connect to Source. It radically expanded my perspective on healing, touching on concepts that I'd never heard mentioned before. I'm grateful that I was able to find so much useful information in one place.

Starr Fuentes is most definitely a Master Healer whose book sends its own energy through to the reader. I immediately began perusing and then reading the book upon receipt. I had been working on and with my 94 year old mother who, due to too many months of antibiotics from a series of geriatric and dental problems, developed a severe yeast infection which included blood. I had been working with her that day at her home after visiting the gynocologist, and then continued when I returned to my home. But something was not going right for me. The energies were not as potent as usual. I then picked up Starr's book again and was led to a series of pages and short descriptions of different energy positions for my hands. I did this, called mom to find out how she was doing. She stated that within the past twenty minutes or so she suddenly felt much easier. Later that evening she called to tell me the discharge did not have any red-orange color at all. She was not to begin the usual medical treatment for this condition at all until her bedtime later that evening.

I also used this book to ease my own arthritic joint pain on my left hand and amazingly, it worked on that too! It is so very difficult for a healer to self heal, but with HEALING WITH ENERGY it is much earier to do so.

The first book of Dolores' that I read was the "Shining Paths". I then bought this book. I was so moved and inspired by it that I put together a course that I teach using "Illuminations" for the wonderful, guided meditations that Dolores does so well. This book has expanded my mind and given me immense insight into such a beautiful, magical language. The Hebrew Letters, from Aleph to Tav, have such power, such majesty, such wisdom and love to share with us. Dolores gives us the opportunity to open up to the letters and allow them into our lives. Thank you, Dolores.

...then this is your book! As the Shinging Paths takes you up the tree of life, Illuminations will take you down starting with Aleph and ending with Tau. Each letter has a meditation, a pathworking, a poem and a ritual. Beautifully written.

As a student of the Occult for many years I highly recommend every book of Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki. But this book is a special one; this is the Master Magician playing the concert piano of the Holy Qabalah, performing the Music of the Spheres with such exquisit images, meditations, rituals that the Sound of the Creater becomes visible when you read the book. It moves me and toutches me deep in my heart.
I recommend this book as well for the beginning student as for the advanced student on the path of magic; Dolores is one of the greatest teachers of our time who is truly able to 'tap into the Universe' herself; she is original and inspiring.
She has the skill to make abstract ideas and images very accessible. Her writing style is very personal, when you read her book it is almost like she is sitting in your home and telling you her story, and in the mean time she seduces you to take on a gigantic amount of Work. But you know what... you will love it.

Compassionate and healing

I am in the process of reading this book, and will update this when I have finished it. So far, it strikes me as a profoundly healing work. Born out of her own pain, as the author states, it not only introduces the unfamiliar reader to the power of the Hebrew letters, it also contains new insights and information for those already familiar with them.

It provides the reader with clear instructions on how to work with the letters. A beautifully written prayer begins each chapter, setting the scene for her ideas about and analysis of each letter. A clear picture of each letter is included. Her instructions for how to use each letter in meditation, as well as a ritual specifically written for each letter, are all included.

In her introduction, Ashcroft-Nowicki sets out a course of study for the entire alphabet. Students can do as much with these instructions as they wish. As one follows along in the book, the idea of how to heal the self of past hurts and sadness is clearly built up. This is a powerful, compassionate process, reflecting the personality of the author of the book, and of course even more reflecting the true nature of the letters themselves.

I have known the author for many years and want to disclose this to be honest in this review. However, long before I met her I had read some of her books, and the way her writing spoke to me--the way she presents ideas--was what drew me to meet her eventually. But even if I had never met her, I would be writing an identical opinion of the book. If you have any interest in these letters, which form the basis of one of the world's great religions and also contribute so much to the Western Mystery Tradition, read this book.

An Illuminating experience

I must confess to a vested interest in any book by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki... she is my Master.

Having said that I was totally "blown away" on first reading through "Illuminations". So much so that I have put aside all my other books (I normally have about 4 or 5 on the go at anyone time) and restarted it to use it in the way it is meant to be used - as deep meditative study. I will not attempt to spoil your adventure by describing the contents, but will only catechise you to go out and buy this book.

You will not regret it.

Comment by Gareth Knight:
"This may not be the Qabalism of the library guru or of the ivory tower esotericist, but it is a sleeves-rolled-up, no-nonsense approach to practical occult development, that at the same time maintains the essential sense of reverence to the divine power that the alphabet of the secret wisdom represents."

Comment by Stanley Cohen:
"Her (Dolores) work is to be applauded as it is crucial to our humanity that we understand His ways from within ourselves. I hope that this book enables each reader to become more aware of those eternal fundamental truths that lie within his or her innermost being."

I had to check this out....just received my deck 3 or 4 days ago......was a bit skeptical and scared, at first....To be honest, my first thought was...OMG's--not a Reiki Tarot........

My deepest apologies to Frans and Bronwen, but with todays "Fast Food Approach and Commercializtion of Reiki"......I was affraid you had sold-out or gone crazy.....lol.....I am sure you understand......

But true to Frans and Bronwen's love of Reiki, and the techniques that have somehow fallen away from most teachings of Reiki, and keeping it true to its origins...... the cards are a wonderful educational tool for ones self improvement a clear and easy to understand self-meditation, healing, clearing and cleansing techniques. Although it is still advisable to study, or take classes when available, to gain a fuller understand of the techniques and the spiritual aspects.

As true leaders and educators in Reiki, they have seperated the Traditional and Non-Traditional (new age inspired) techniques.

My sincere hope is that the cards are only used as they were intended.....a self improvement , healing and learning tool.

Keeping Reiki True to its origings

Blessed Be

I'm only giving this 4 stars because I would have liked to see a bit more artwork, but the idea behind the cards and the ease of using them is what is really important, not how pretty the picture is. I was at a point where I was not using reiki as often as I should, and these helped to kick-start my practice again.

This card deck and booklet are a wonderful tool for self healing and spiritual development. They can be used by people who are learning Reiki, people who are teaching Reiki and also people who have had no Reiki training at all.

The booklet gives very clear thoughts on how the cards can be used by someone who wants to work energetically and spiritually on themselves.

There are 45 cards and they cover a wide range of well chosen and clearly explained techniques including simple meditations, hand healing and practices to help us work with the energy that all living things have.

They are designed to be chosen one at once - this is the intuition bit - and then the chosen card is worked with for a number of days.

For someone learning Reiki these cards could be used as a valuable tool to strengthen their energy work and connection, giving confidence and adding breadth and depth to their practice.

For someone teaching Reiki they are a great resource for Reiki Shares. Group work where the students each pick a card to work with is fun. Each of the techniques can be tried by the group. Then each student can work with the technique they have chosen until the next meeting. This causes a lot of sharing and discussion about all sorts of Reiki and spirituality related topics. It also gives the students a solid practice in between meetings.

For someone who has not taken a Reiki class the cards can be used to start exploring self healing and this can progress at their own pace. Working with these cards before a class would give the student an excellent grounding to base their Reiki study on.

A beautiful and well thought out tool for everyone! This card deck is not just for those who practice Reiki, they can be used by anyone wanting find balance in life.

The deck is wonderfully illustrated and each exercise is simple and easy to follow, the explanations are clear and so far I am finding the exercises highly beneficial!

For those who do practice Reiki the deck is an ideal tool for forming a routine that is varied and interesting, you could pick one card a day to add to your energy work or maybe one card and work on the tool for a week and see what develops. Reiki shares would benefit from this, maybe everyone could pick a seperate card and work on it then tell the group how they found the exercise or the group could all work on the same card together. For teachers, maybe you could give a student the choice to pick a card and work on it until you meet up at your next class where they could tell you how they found it.

As you can see the deck has numerous uses and that has to be one of its best elements, you can use the tools in as many different was as you can think up!

Lets just hope that Frans and Bronwen Stiene keep researching on behalf of the reiki community and continue to provide us with the high standard of books and tools that we are used to seeing from them.......eagerly awaiting the next!

I highly recommend this book for anyone in search of a little rest for the soul. It's an easy read with great suggestions about how to go within yourself to find peace rather than searching for it from others.

As a beginning student in the art of Aikido, I hardly feel capable of rendering any worthwhile judgments on the content of this book. It's value to me personally in achieving an understanding of the process of learning the art has been tremendous, however. Gleason Sensei's explanations and examples have helped me greatly in making the connection between Aikido training and the way of life which this art is truly meant to be. This is one of those books which, while reading, you will continuously say to yourself "Ah - now I understand!" or "Yes - this has happened to me!" It is a book which you will be inspired to share with your fellow students as well.

Unfortunately, I must in honesty say that Destiny Publishers has failed in their effort to provide a lasting medium for the words of William Gleason. My paperback copy of this book disintegrated into a handful of loose pages before I was halfway finished. It is truly a testament to the inspirational worth of this book to me personally, that I overcame my impatience and finished it despite this.

Still, I would rate this a "must read" for anyone seriously interested in Aikido - regretfully, I cannot lend you my copy.

As of this writing I am 67 years old and have only been training at aikido for just less than three years. And as O'Sensei recommends, I do now train every day and am learning to be more perceptive of everything around me. Although difficult to put into words, I believe I was attracted to aikido initially because I felt something was missing in my life and aikido seemed to present an opportunity to find out what that might be within the context of mind/body/spirit. For me, aikido has become a continuous and never ending process of becoming and existing more fully (beginner's mind) in each and every moment. I found what William Gleason Sensei has written in "The Spiritual Foundations of Aikido" helps to confirm what I have been discovering and has helped me to establish some of the initial structures (co-ordinated mind and body) I needed to facilitate the process, or flow, (spiritual) of blending, maintaining connection and becoming one with those with whom I train and all others .

For those who think aikido is more than just bending joints

This book is a most interesting review of and introduction to the spiritual aspects of Aikido. More than just aspects, William Gleason, the author, shows that without the spiritual, aikido would be a hollow physical shell. With grounding in Shinto, esoteric Buddhism and other spiritual fields explored and assimilated by the founder of Aikido, the author gives a good case for patience...In other words this is surely not a discipline for those hoping for enlightenment in a weekend. The only objection I have to this book which applies, I believe, to martial arts books in general, is that the aikido practice photographs are of doubtful value. Two dimensions will never do justice to three: you cannot judge distances, angles, positition and the rest by looking at these pictures. Or any other pictures, for that matter. Pictures of the founder of aikido are interesting because one look at his face and you understand that aikido is the antithesis of a murderous, brutal martial art. A true budo, a fine book.

A student of Yamaguchi Sensei at Hombu Dojo in Japan for many years, Gleason Sensei has succeeded in giving us the first comprehensive exposition of the spiritual beliefs of the Aikido Founder, Morihei Ueshiba. A great companion volume for Aikido and the Harmony of Nature, this volume expresses theses concepts in the terms that he Founder himself would have used. Not an easy read, this book is best digested in manageable pieces. For the serious student of Aikido this book provides a wonderful window on how the physical techniques of the art are really a form of spiritual expression and allows one to go far beyond the viewpoint afforded by the very smell amount of writing that has been translated from the Founder's own words into English.

I am reading this book for a book study group that we have at our local chain bookstore. It is practical and laid out in a way that makes it easy-to-read. It has wonderful stories throughout, many from a variety of spiritual teachers from the world's spiritual traditions, that clarify and expand on the points being made. It is a great study of the body's subtle energy system. For each chakra, the authors give the following correspondences: location, color, sanskrit name, # of petals, positive expression, unbalanced expression, corresponding part of body, musical instrument, gemstone, spiritual tradition and life lesson. I highly recommend this book as it makes the profound practical and enjoyable.

A Genuinely Valuable Addition to the Qigong Literature
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-28
There are a lot of books that have been written by folk with little practical experience of qigong or knowledge of the fact that it is a comprehensive way of leading your life, rather than just a set of breathing exercises and meditations.

It is clear from the very beginning that this is someone who "walks the talk." Not only does it ring true, but there is also something else that speaks to the authenticity of the book: I was taught many of the exercises by a qigong Master in Nanjing, China, in 1991. And to my knowledge, they have never been published anywhere else.

The book is a fascinating narrative, as well as a set of practices. It does not attempt to provide details of some of the very interesting research that is being done into qigong, so it will not convince a sceptic. Unless he or she will give it a try!

Enjoyable and empowering!

If you've stumbled across this book while doing a search, consider it no accident. As there is apparently no big marketing push to thrust this book upon you, it seems to simply be awaiting one's readiness to receive it before making itself known. In "Beautiful Heart, Beautiful Spirit" Katherine Orr has distilled the basic principles of a modern master's teachings of Wudang Qigong and conveyed them with lucid simplicity. I found something very fresh and sincere being communicated here - there was no sprinkling of over-used quotes and aphorisms of past sages; Orr's communication of Master Qing Chuan Wang's teachings stands on its own and flowed seamlessly. She covered a lot of ground, weaving a story of Wudang Qigong - a bit of its historical roots in China as it relates to this master's lifework, its philosophical principles, its scientific and medical aspects, its powerful potential to heal and transform, as well as the practical aspects of how to get started incorporating it into one's life.

Finally someone has communicated, in terms we can understand, - and literally FEEL - how to connect with this seemingly mysterious force called "qi" (pronounced "chee" - life force energy) and how to establish a life-long relationship with it through a gentle daily practice. While there is much to read about and reflect on in content, what this book does so well, with each chapter, is paint a picture of what "qi" is and what it feels like through the sensitivity of this master. Beyond any visual image or mental concept that might be conjured up, this picture is a feeling - the very essence of something subtle yet powerful, something ever-changing, vibrant and alive - as life itself. This is not a picture easily painted but Katherine Orr does it with grace - her writing the very embodiment of this art form itself.

Yes, the easy-to-follow movements in the book are pleasurable and centering (and even easier to follow with the companion DVD), however, what I found most profound about the practices - which are like fluid moving meditations - is their ability to take me beyond mind, to both calm and lift the spirit, to transport and transform. There are so many wonderful and powerful truths presented in this book - read it, experience it for yourself and you will feel yourself tapping in to qi - and to a whole "new," yet ever-present, reality.

The book is well organized and offers practical information for someone trying to begin or enhance practice. I did not experience any of this text as esoteric. The exercise instruction is very clear. In the exercise section, the pictures are simple and amazingly instructive. After reading this book, I felt confident I had learned a valuable practice. Put another way, I was not confused, overwhelmed, or left wondering. This book is well worth its cost, indeed worth more.

I am a professional Usui Reiki Master, who holds regular certification courses in Reiki as well as other energetic healing modalities. I ALWAYS suggest this book to my students, as it provides all the pertinent information necessary to build a strong foundational understanding of the chakra system, without overloading the reader with chapters of advanced information that may bog down a newcomer. Although Anodea Judith's "Wheels of Light" is exhaustive in its research, and is an excellent resource for the reader who is already well-versed in chakra theory, it can be extremely intimidating for a reader just starting out in the subject matter.

"The Chakra Handbook" contains all the information that a reader could possibly need at a glance: the color, sound, symbolism, location, mental-emotional-spiritual, as well as crystal & gem coorespondances; it even provides short and effective visualizations! Even though I have been practicing for nearly 10 years, I still turn to my handy "Chakra Handbook" first if I need a refresher on a particular association, or other bit of crucial information.

All of my students who buy this book write back to me absolutely thrilled with its contents!
I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Eastern theory, alternative healing, natural health, or spirituality in general.

Excellent guide to the subtle bodies and chakra healing

This wonderful book is an exhaustive guide to harmonising the body's energy vortices with music, colours, gemstones, fragrances, breathing techniques, reflex zone massage plus meditation. The book is very comprehensive in cope, dealing with the full energy system and the subtle bodies: ethereal, astral, mental and spiritual, while explaining the function and purpose of the charkas. It explains how blockages develop in the charkas and how to eliminate them, before treating each of the seven chakras in detail.

The astrological associations are dealt with and various therapies for cleansing and activating the chakras are covered in great detail. These include sound, colour, gemstone, and aroma therapies plus colour meditation and different forms of yoga. In addition, there are chapters on chakra breathing, reflex zone massage and physical exercises for releasing blocked energies. The appendix includes tables on the charkas and their associated factors like symbols, colours, elements, hormones, musical tones and aromas.

The text is enlivened with many black and white figures, illustrations and tables, and the book concludes with a short bibliography. The Chakra-handbook is the most comprehensive work on the subject that I have encountered, providing practical information in a simple, easily understood manner. I highly recommend it to practitioners of esoteric healing and to all readers who are interested in familiarising themselves with their own energy bodies for a more fulfilling and abundant life.

This is simply an excellent book on the chakras. Clear, easy to use, easy to understand, not overwhelming for a beginner but still plenty of useful information for experienced practitioners. Very comprehensive, touching on many aspects connected to the chakras and a wide variety of useful therapies: sound, color, senses, gemstones, foot zone. It is very holistic, explaining the emotional, psychological and physical manifestations regarding each chakra. Not only this, but it also relates them to different ages of your life and stages of your development. Amazing!

Anodea Judith is remarkably gifted at breaking down a very complex system into easy to understand language. By reviewing each Chakra, it's development, both healthy and unhealthy, and what is required for healing, Anodea enables one to assess and heal one's whole body system. This is a very powerful and effective system.

This six-tape series is incredible. I have listened to each tape at least twice, and have gotten something extra each time I listened. Diane Stein strongly recommended all of Anodea Judith's work, and I agree wholeheartedly. I will be ordering more of Anodea's books and tapes in the near future. Thank you so much

This set is a complete course in self realization.

No one delivers a more clear or comprehensive perspective on the seven sacred chambers known as the chakras. This set is truly what it says it is, a Complete course in Self-diagnosis and Healing. You will find yourself referring back to it frequently.

Wise, compassionate lessons more useable than Caroline Myss

Anodea has put together a wealth of information on the chakras from her experience and has presented it in such a way as to be practical and applicable to day to day life.

As a student of Energetic and Spiritual Healing I have studied many versions of work on the chakras. Although I have attended training and studied the works of Caroline Myss (who seems to be the favourite at the moment) I have to say that for thorough information on the chakras and methods of practically working with them, I prefer Anodea's work (books and audios).

I've met and studied with the author, Wen Mei Yu, and she is the real thing. We are lucky to have this book, especially in English. She teaches here in Los Angeles and also does healing work for cancer patients at UCLA.

The first half of the book gives a concise review of the basics of chinese energy work and esoteric Taoism. It is laid out in a matter of fact way without any fantasizing or superstitious sillyness.

The second half of the book is a methodical training manual for a powerful chi gung form. Regular practice, even without a teacher, yields results to the capacity of the student. This may be the best way to really learn to experience the flow and feeling of "chi" if you don't have access to a master guide to help.

Highly recommended.

Let's be short and to the point: To date, this is the best available book on Wild Goose Qigong. Wen Mei Yu's set of three accompanying videos, sold through her website, are also of the highest standard and all I wish is that other "masters" flaunting videos put forth the same production quality.

This is not, thankfully, another generic book on "chi practice". Author Wen Mei Yu Introduces us to and instructs us in a very specific form of Chi Kung: Wild Goose Chi Kung. Yu was a student of Madam Yan Mei Jun, the legendary grandmaster of this popular and complex school of energy cultivation.

Every necessary topic is covered in this volume, including history (photos of Grandmaster Yan Mei Jun are included), philosophy (this is a Taoist school), Theory (very detailed, many diagrams with explanations), and of course the COMPLETE 64 movement Wild Goose form.

A note on the instructional photographs in this volume: every technique is illustrated by several photographs. The pictures do an excellent job of communicating direction, movement, posture, et cetera. Yu also takes the time with more complex techniques to show common mistakes practitioners should avoid. This is probably one of the best books on physical chi practice out there. I found it to be thorough but not cluttered. Every piece of information fit, and the author's descriptions and explanations were easlily understood in the context of traditional belief and practice.

This book describes the philosophy and the practice of Wild Goose Chi Gung in a very clear and specific way that lay people can understand. She clearly describes the hand and other movements, the points of the meridians and the positions of Wild Goose Chi Gung. I highly recommend this book.
