Douglas clearly has such great respect for his readers. He does not write over anyone's head; he does not write down to anyone. The book covers healing techniques with detail and clarity. I learned many simple yet profound methods of energetic self-healing.

I was so inspired by his book, I called him for a healing over the phone. I was blown away. I had to have him on my Internet radio show. My listeners loved him so much they demanded I have him on again! Douglas is the real deal. Don't waste your time and money on other books about ancient healing techniques. This is your one stop shopping.

There are some good stuff for low level psychics and those interested in psychic ablities and healing, and such. But the books repeats a lot of stoff from the first book, and so forth. All this could had been shorten and more simple, and would of all fit in one book. Sure the writer meant well, but with all the repeating of methods, I skip a lot of of the pages from boring self and keep interests. But thats me. Like it to get to the point, and make it simple to follow. Others may like it the way it is written?

I not fond to New Age thinking, but this writer book 1 and 2 is ok. Though he not truely understand psychic nature, he makes some good points. As a clairsentient, you may find Taosim more your path.

This book has many good exercises to raise your consciousness and vibration.

Some of the techniques are mental, because everyone wants to enhance their ability to manifest what they desire. This requires focus. But before you can attempt focusing techniques, you need to resolve the conflicts between your conscious and subconscious. Start with acting, thinking and speaking in a positive manner and you will eventually change the subconscious.

Others are methods for facilitating energy movement throughout the body. Some of these techniques are similar to ones I've learned in Quantum Healing, and in preparation for attempting an OBE. It's nice when you get corroboration of these methods by several healers.

There is repetition of the Doug's first book, but it's always nice to repeat concepts until they become habit. I could have picked up the first book and reviewed it, but it's easier to go through it in one book, and then continue on to the next level.

In an effort to deepen my knowledge and understanding of Reiki, I have studied a number of different variations. It has been a very interesting undertaking and I have enjoyed my studies thoroughly. Nonetheless, I have often noticed and wondered about slight differences in the way certain traditional symbols are written, differential translations of those symbols, or slight variations in the instructions for Reiki practice. Do these slight modifications matter? Does Reiki work by intention alone? What did Master Usui actually teach? Is the Reiki energy that I make use of the same as the original?

The Big Book of Reiki Symbols is an amazing reference for any Reiki practitioner that wants to delve deeper into the meaning of Reiki. At 671 pages, this book is quite a commitment, one well worth the effort I might add. As I found myself entranced in the pages, I gained an extraordinary sense of respect, insight, and understanding about what we do as practitioners. I've noticed that now I take more care and really appreciate the gift when I work.

I highly suggest taking lots of notes and having a good supply of post-it-notes to bookmark pages that you want to study in more detail. Believe me, there will be plenty. My copy looks like a bit like a porcupine.

If you are a Reiki practitioner who has an academic mind-set, or one who is interested in research, you will be glad to have this book in your library, otherwise it's not going to be a book you go to again and again in terms of technique or your practice.

It is difficult to follow, and very meandering in its approach to some of the information shared. This may be due, in part, to the fact that one of the author's writing is translated into English, and complicated further in that the subject matter is about Japanese and Chinese language concepts and history. That being said, I still found it of interest. However, I am appalled by the amount of errors in the book's copy; it seems that it didn't have a competent editor/proof reader assigned to it. So, I am disappointed in Lotus Press/Shangri-La for allowing this book to come to the public with errors that anyone could have found and should have been corrected.

There is significant background here that will make the threads of ancestry and ties to great wisdom more apparent- especially in terms of the symbols. Will it make you a better practitioner? Perhaps not, but if you can plow your way through the stiffer parts, it might make it easier to answer some of the questions we are asked all the time about Reiki and from where it comes. Namaste' to all of the seekers, believers, healthy skeptics, and hopeful out there.

This book is simply amazing -- a master class in Reiki.

It is the book I have been waiting for ever since my attunements over ten years ago. It is a true encyclopedia of reiki knowledge written with much care and research. It goes into enormeous depth regarding the purpose and use of symbols and mantras.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough -- a real blessing.

The authors present detailed history of the spirituality behind the symbols and Dr. Usui's use of them, which enriches my understanding of reiki but grounds reiki in its proper traditions. They give beautiful illustrations and descriptions for mudras and how to write the symbols. Opening the book is overwhelming with the sheer volume of information. It is not mearly for academic interest. Many sections cover what are essentially "recipes" for how to use the symbols effectively.

I hope that the previous review did not hurt the sales of this book. Yes it has typographical errors, but the wealth of information is worth minor errors.

I have never written a review for amazon, but I don't want this book to be overlooked, so I felt compelled to share my enthusiasm.

As Reiki Magazine says on the back, "With its more than 600 pages, this book surpasses all previous Reiki publications"

Many blessings

Wow, I'm never really sure what David is saying, although part of me senses the truth and is in awe of it. This may sound ridiculous, but that is how I feel. Radionics is real, no question, and David is very controversial obviously (especially within the Radionic community, surprisingly), so it is often like he is speaking an ancient language that is difficult to decipher. His ideas of reading the 7 major rays is fascinating. The reports that he can generate on people are mind blowing. I use various vibrational / energy techniques myself, but what David does and how he thinks is just beyond me currently. It's frustrating, but somehow such an important piece of work. This book is only for very advanced practitioners with an open mind. I'm also struck by the fact that David died prematurely and not too long after penning this book. Was it from the inherent danger of handling the 7 rays as he states in the book, or was it more sinister than that??

if of you are interested in radionics, you should first consider reading from tansley because he is one of the few authors that knows what he's talking about. to delve into this area of spirituality means encountering many persons who will try to influence you to usually buy something that has "magical powers" or try to mislead you to harm towards yourself or others. tansley is definitly not one of them, throughout the book he consistently stresses that radionics is here for personal spiritual growth and not to try anything with out knowledge about the subject. the book is very interesting, and granted you will need to read up much more to understand the bigger pictures of rays, radionics, and chakras, but the book is definitly worth reading as a basic understanding of the three elements.

Being a student of the author, I am somewhat biased in my assessment of his book, but frankly, I think it's great. As a student of Chi Kung, I am always in search of resources from which to learn the art and then pass these resources onto others. I have to say that Jim's book is one of the most complete and clear that I've read, thanks to the array of contributions from leading practitioners. However, the jewel of this book is that underlying the entire work is Five Element theory, an extremely effective though lesser known approach to acupuncture than TCM. Five Element functions both as a basis for a healing art and as a profound approach to life. Enjoy the wealth.

James MacRitchie is one of our gifted interpreters of the secrets of ancient China. This is his third book on Chi Kung - Qigong, the mother of Tai Chi. His exploration of the Qi (Chi) cultivation arts is assisted by 22 of the most impressive luminaries on this suject in the modern era -- Jahnke, Johnson, Garripoli, Winn, Weil, etc. MacRitchie's incredible crafting of his own writing, the writing of this impressive team of experts, the illustrations and photographs, creates one of the more definitive of the contemporary books on the subject of Qigong and its roots into the deep and rich soil of Chinese philosophy, medicine and culture.

I found Children's Reiki Handbook by Pamela and Robert Yarborough to be a concise yet thorough introduction to the Usui healing system of Reiki. It's perfect for children and young adults--both those who already know something about Reiki and those who've never been exposed to it. The text is clear and well-written. The photographs are beautifully done and make it easy for a young person (or adult!) to learn the various hand positions for healing.

My two children, ages 9 and 11, are Level 2 Reiki practitioners, and both enjoyed the Yarboroughs' book. It's also a handy little book of basics for an adult!

I picked up this book knowing little more about Reiki than the name. I knew that Reiki was some form of healing energy and that you used your hands but how and why it works were a mystery to me.

This slim book is an easy read and despite its limited number of pages (44) a very thorough introduction to the history and practice of Reiki. If your older child shows a leaning toward learning healing skills and knowledge you will both benefit from this handbook.

The book starts out with an explanation of the history of Reiki and what exactly it is. A further chapter describes the life energy associated with Reiki practice, where the charkas are and what area of the body they govern. There is a brief explanation of auras and the colors associated with certain personality types. The book then gets into the meat of its subject with instruction and photographs to bring the seeker into First Level Attunement.

Once the child has attained First Level the next section of the book shows with more photography and explanation how to use this new level of healing awareness to heal. The final chapters include meditations and the admonition to practice to become ready for attunement to higher Reiki Levels.

I found the book to be very basic. As an adult I still have questions about Reiki, but a child should get quite a lot out of this book when accompanied by the help of an attuned adult. I tried to get my own 11 year old to look at the book to give me her opinion of it, but she was not interested enough to do more than glance at the cover and ask what Reiki was. This being the case, I would strongly advise getting this book only for children who have already expressed an interest in learning Reiki. The information is presented in a textbook as opposed to anecdotal way and does require that there be a previous interest in the material.

This updated verison offers a great overview of energy healing that will appeal to kids and adults! This handbook is comprehensive, yet concise. The photgraphs are a very helpful visual guide for the new Reiki student. The book includes information on healing yourself, others and even distant healing. There are chapters on chakras, mediatation and aura clearing. I particualry like how the authors introduce the readers to these other areas and how Reiki can positively impact so many aspects of our lives. I imagine this guide could be quite helpful to children who have most likely been effected by the energy of others and not known what is occuring or how to help themselves. This really is an empowering, guide for children and a great introduction to energy healing for anyone!

I found this book to be interesting, although I'm not sure totally correct. It takes a pretty simple subject and breaks in down into details that were tedious at times. I'm sure this book would be excellent for anyone who enjoys that sort of thing, but if you're looking for simplified knowledge, this book isn't it.

I found this book quite refreshing, being that it wasn't written with allot of new-age, eastern mysticism, mumbo-jumbo like most of the books on this topic are.

The author probes deeply into how the human energy field effects the human psyche and vise versa. He explains the methodology on how he has arrived at his conclusions and gives many real world examples.

This is not only a great book for someone who is interested in doing their own mental and emotional healing, but it should be in the library of all Psychiatrists and anyone else who deals with people on a mental/emotional level.

A must have for anyone interested in holistic healing.

Ms. Stein's Essential Energy Balancing Process is fantastic. I was skeptical at first, but went into the process with an open mind and heart. The energy shift I experienced during the process and for a long time afterwards was like nothing I have ever felt. The incredible joy and release that accompanied the process is well worth the work to learn. All I can say is, don't knock it until you've really, TRULY tried it. And remember, even if you THINK you're open, if you aren't really, you won't experience a darn thing. That is not Ms. Stein's fault - that is your own. She gave you a divinely inspired tool. Use it. This book is not optional, but mandatory reading (as are all the Energy Balancing books) for personal/spiritual growth and enlightenment. It is probably impossible to describe the beauty of its affects - you really just have to experience it for yourself.

I highly reccomend this book to all my Reiki friends. It is written by one of the twenty two original Reiki masters initiated by Hawayo Takata. John Harvey Gray was the third to receive this initiation from her, and is the longest currently practicing in the west.

In addition to a nice historical context, Hand to Hand also provides photo illustrations of hand positions for a complete treatment, both for oneself and others, useful techniques and advice, and another translation of Hayashi sensei's Ryoho Shishin (Hayashi healing guide).

John and his wife Lourdes wrote a wonderful addition to the Reiki library.

Having about 20 years of study and practice in various healing systems, I recommend this book as a practical and comprehensive tool for the study of Reiki and life energy. It will be of interest to newcomers for the history and basic techniques of Reiki. It will be instructive to practitioners and teachers through the case histories and integration with chakra energetics model. The knowledge presented is in the tradition of the original method which provides energy balancing at all levels-physical,mental,emotional, spiritual. This book illustrates the on-going development of Reiki as a growing complentary modality in the healing arts. John Harvey Gray is one of the original US Masters and has dedicated his life to sharing and teaching Reiki through classes and the establishment of Reiki wellness centers.

The Real Skinny on Reiki

Review Date: 2008-01-22
This author studied under Takata. He will give you information not available in other books. Most of the books on Reiki are either repetitive of what's been written, or are the author's own theories. This book is neither. For anyone who has been attuned and is interested in Reiki's History, this book is a highly recommended sourcebook.

Note that the author disagrees with Modern Reiki Masters in that he states that personal, in person, attunements from an authentic Reiki Master who has ALSO been attuned in person from another Reiki Master (the lineage) is the only way to go, to be attuned to real, pure Reiki.

MRM's will argue that you can get attuned from a video, from the Internet, or even attune yourself (the usual babble and claims.). Nonsense. Something may happen, but It ain't Reiki.

If I'd pick a half-dozen books on Reiki that I would consider essential, this book would be about #3. Learn about Takata and Reiki from someone who was there during her peak years.
