Unmasking the Rose by Dorothy WaltersReview Date: 2006-11-09
easy to follow. On such a difficult complex subject this is quite an accomplishment. Thank you Dorothy Walters for putting into words this
overwhelming experience. Indeed, it is refreshing to find something on this subject that comes out of an ordinary life instead of the countless pages written by gurus who perhaps have not even had the experience themselves

Kundalini made understandableReview Date: 2006-11-05
Well, Dorothy Walters is human too, yet she has experienced the highest form of spiritual arousal not once, not twice, but on a regular basis for decades. It happens when she slows down, tunes out and quiets herself. That makes sense. Everything she says makes sense.
Of all the many--countless, actually--spiritual books I've read, "Unmasking the Rose" comes the closest to the Truth. The truth that spiritual experiences are not for the already-enlightened, but for everyone. Everyone who is willing to open that door and walk through it, that is. Not that we will all experience kundalini in either its blissful or painful aspects, but that we all have the POTENTIAL to do so.
I thank Dorothy Walters for telling her story so we will have the courage to LIVE our stories, wherever they might lead us.

Good introduction to Qigong and Eight Pieces of BrocadeReview Date: 2006-04-29
The next two chapters present the sitting and standing set of "Eight pieces of brocade", respectively. There are details, but not exhaustive, and I feel that one should also get the DVD with the same name to have a better understanding of the sets - short of having a teacher. This is actually what Dr. Yang recommends - work with both the book and DVD, for there are details which cannot be explained in the latter, but you cannot get the feel and moves from the former as much as from the DVD.
The book ends with a rather comprehensive glossary of terms (book names, authors, masters, etc.) and with an index.
All in all, this is a great book for beginners, but by all means it cannot be considered the end - it is only an introduction, and a good one. This being said, there might be probably better introductions in other books, but everyone has to start somewhere, and this work isn't bad at all.
Antidote for our unhealthy livesReview Date: 2004-10-25
Qigong, as alternative health expert Dr. Wang Jwing-Ming explains, functions like tai chi chuan or yoga as a way of maintaining longevity, youth, energy and health. Dr. Yang explains that most practitioners of qigong seek enlightenment, awareness and health through wai dan (physical tai chi type qigong) or nei dan (meditation).
Once you have read the half of the book devoted to the nature of qigong, like most Westerners, you're itching to get started. Dr. Yang stresses that qigong is not about fancy moves, but about careful attention. The exercises, like weight or strength training, require several repetitions. The qigong exercises may seem slow. However, for those who are sick and tired of being sick and tired, patience will pay off when you choose to set aside 10-20 minutes a day. The accompanying videotape purports to be another great investment in your health. Dr. Yang skillfully shows us the path to wellness.

A Tremendously Helpful Product and PracticeReview Date: 2008-03-31
I could easily fit this form of meditation into my long commutes and it worked amazingly well to calm my mind and clear my thoughts. On that score alone it was well worth the time & cash investment, but there have been other changes of great significance that developed during my first 40 day chanting practice. Internally I found it possible to accept a formerly challenging situation of many years duration and even turn it into a pleasurable and productive activity, and to my amazement at the same time some difficult neighbors we've had for a very long time were given an eviction notice!
At the very least mantra practice is a natural tranquilizer, and at the very best it might actually work with vibration to modify psychic and social structures. I would say the purchase and use of this product has really changed my life, and could not recommend it more highly to one who is willing to work at it and give it some time.

Being a breathing specialist myself, I have read just about every book that's been published about breathing techniques and breath education, and Dennis' stands out as being the most insightful, as well as the most practical. Dennis doesn't get caught up in many of the myths and misconceptions surrounding breathing - including the notion that there's a "right" way to do it. Instead, he fosters a true spirit of exploration and exprimentation that can lead the reader to a deeper understanding of their own process, and a profound experience of their "natural breath."

Enlighten !Review Date: 2008-05-27
This is a excellent book/cd for beginners and for those who want to heal. I find this book very educational and enlighten. The CD it self fills the room of good vibes and peace and joy, without humming the 5 words. You will pick these healing sound of each words with no problem. Though the "DZA" may take some use too, but it is not really difficult. The "D" sound is quick a short, like you not hear the "d" sound, and more of z sound. It's very quick.
Though I was searching for a book that has a bounch of different sounds for different chakras, and so forth. This book still was very helpful. Even if just knowing these 5 words, will give you an good idea of other sounds of your own you can try. Direct these vibes both front and back for best clearing all blockages orbing around the body. Experiment with the body when sounding to, you can feel the vibes in legs and arms too.

Empowerment Through Reiki Review Date: 2008-07-03
Empowerment through Reiki goes through all the basics of Reiki: the history, the precepts, the way Reiki works, what is taught at each Reiki level, and how Reiki can be used in everyday life. This book also goes into some detail about somewhat advanced techniques that can be used to make Reiki more effective and how Reiki can be used in conjunction with other forms of healing.

Gemstone BibleReview Date: 2007-01-15
One of the best resources for Energy MedicineReview Date: 2005-12-05
Anyone who considers himself a student or practitioner of energy therapies should own a copy of Gemstone Energy Medicine. I consider it an essential textbook in any library of energy therapy books. Students and practitioners of all levels will easily find the help they need to learn and apply therapeutic gemstone interventions. I refer to it frequently to make the most of the therapeutic gemstones that I own.
One of the beauties of Gemstone Energy Medicine is the manner in which it is written and organized. The reader and user of gemstones can easily find which gems and gem therapies will most benefit numerous conditions.
This and Katz's other book, Wisdom of the Gemstone Guardians, are exceptionally valuable in explaining the power and use of therapeutic gemstones, some of the most powerful energy healing tools available.
Very incomplete information - not for the serious energy medicine practitionerReview Date: 2006-02-01
Gemstone TherapyReview Date: 2006-03-24
I am a layperson, not a gemstone or energy healer, but have always had a great enjoyment of the minerals of our earth. This book, and others from Michael Katz, have been eye opening and enlightening in my learning of the valuable medicinal work the gemstones can provide.
One of the reviewers below complained about the fact that not all the gemstones of the world are listed in this book. For that, there are Crystal Bibles, and indexes, and Melody books etc. Go there if you need to know about them all. This book is not meant to list all the gemstones there are, and doesn't profess to be an encylopedia of minerals. The gemstones, earthstones, riverstones, and oceanstones written about in this book are ones that have been specifically geared and guided to us as the most useful at this time. The gemstones listed in this book have the ability to give us the greatest amount of assistance at this point in our history. And they do.
Read the book if you are interested in the magic that lies within you, and a gemstone's ability to assist you on your path. This book is really for people who would like to grow spiritually, and to grow on their path of healing the physical, emotional and mental bodies. If you want to increase your consciousness, if you want to heal, if you want to become more aware of and help to enlighten and vitalize your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, you will find much of use in this book. When you use the gemstones by applying the wisdom in this book, you will be surprised and amazed that gemstones have the ability to assist us in changing conditions within ourselves. A+++++!!!

Comprehensive Manual For Learning & Teaching ReikiReview Date: 2002-08-18
DisappointedReview Date: 2006-09-02
Let me start by saying that I am a Reiki Master Teacher in both Usui Shiki Ryoho & Usui Reiki Ryoho. I have been involved with Reiki for well over a decade & Japanese history, philosophy, and culture for twice that long. I have been pursuant in uncovering original information of what exactly what Usui was involved with and taught. I had placed some hope in this book, that it would offer some insight into this realm. Unfortunately, this book did not supply me with any real insight or information about my quest.
Mr. Doi, admittedly, has 'successfully' combined Eastern Traditional Reiki with Western Reiki - so much so that one cannot tease apart which is what. When I first peered through the pages, I thought I had stumbled on a Japanese version of "Essential Reiki" by Stein. In one of the forwards, it says that Doi is 'carrying on the work started by Usui in 1922'. I'm not sure I see it. Comparing it with Traditional material, there is very little original Usui material contained within. It is, however, easy to see the new age interpolation - like the chakra system, karma, and Reiki being translated as 'energy'.
Though this book does offer yet another insight into the world of Reiki, I cannot say that it portrays Reiki in a Traditional sense - at least in an accurate way. I hoped it to be 2 steps forward, only to find it to be 1 step back.
Reiki flowering full blown from SatoriReview Date: 2003-01-07
Hiroshi Doi came to Reiki somewhat serendipitously. Having studied a number of alternative healing methods including crystal healing and qi-gong, Doi-sensei's first exposure to Reiki was during the late 80's as Reiki, or more accurately, Western Reiki, began to spread through Japan. It was during this time that Doi-sensei began to investigate the Japanese roots of Reiki with some surprising results. While in the West, it had been commonly taught that Usui-sensei's original Reiki school no longer existed, Doi-sensei was blessed to discover this was not so. He even had the good fortune to receive attunements from practitioners who had received their attunements and healings from Usui-sensei or from Usui's successor, Hayashi-sensei. Reiki had not died out in Japan as was previously thought; it was just not commonly taught or promoted. Furthermore, Doi-sensei's research into the history of Reiki uncovered much about Reiki's founder, Usui-sensei.
Whereas in the West, many of us have learned that Usui-sensei was a Christian minister or that he taught in a University, Doi-sensei reveals a man and a technique firmly rooted in Buddhist tradition. Usui-sensei not only adhered to the principles and practices of Tendai Buddhism, he also received formal instruction in zazen meditation from a Zen temple. Likewise, it has been commonly thought that Usui-sensei had a revelation about Reiki while fasting on Mt. Kurama, a mountain sacred to Tendai Buddhists, after years of researching Tibetan and other scriptures for information about healing. Doi-sensei asserts this is not the case. Usui-sensei's understanding of Reiki is now to be seen as the fulfillment of the satori or sudden enlightenment he atttained on Mt. Kurama after a period of prolonged meditation and fasting.
In sharp contrast to Western style Reiki, which has been spread chiefly as an alternative healing method, albeit a healing method with a pronounced spiritual component, Doi-sensei's Reiki Method or Reiki-Ho is a spiritual path first and foremost. As a spiritual path, Reiki-Ho places emphasis on the consistent practice of meditation, gassho, adherence to the Five Admonitions, cleansing of one's chakras, and healing one's karma. The goal is nothing less than the attainment of Satori, which means sudden enlightenment. Both consistent practice and satori, according to Doi-sensei, attune one ever more completely with the higher vibrational energy that is Reiki and thus, one becomes a more effective agent of healing in the world. This places Reiki-Ho firmly within the lotus blossom of Mahayana Buddhism. It is a way of life that emphasizes work on oneself and one's attainment of spiritual understanding leading up to and including enlightenment as a means of realizing the boundless compassion that is the innermost wellspring of each and all beings' existence in this world. As we realize our compassionate nature, we are moved to act more compassionately in the world and to aid those who suffer.
This is not merely a philosophical or religious stance. The practical implications are that a being who has attained such realization is better able to act as a vehicle of the higher vibrational wisdom-blessing energy that is Reiki. In other words, more Reiki is channelled more effectively to achieve greater healing of self, others, and the world at large. While Doi-sensei does not delineate Reiki-Ho as school or sect of Buddhism, he has made it abundantly clear to all that Reiki is a flower that has grown from the ever fertile soil that is Buddhism.
Though this book will certainly benefit any practitioner who reads it, Modern Reiki Method for Healing is not without its difficulties. Foremost among these is an exceptionally awkward translation into English. Secondly, the frequent enumeration of ideas and the parenthesis of concepts gives significant portions of the book the appearance of an outline for a book rather than a completed work. This important work will surely be reprinted; thus it seems likely these issues will be addressed and corrected in later editions.
Typically, books about reiki flow over the reader like the caress of cherry blossoms in the Spring...but not this one. The translation and odd format will require a certain amount of commitment to wrestle the meaning out of the more difficult passages. Nonetheless, those who persevere will gain considerably both in their grasp of Reiki history and practice as it is understood in the East and in their understanding of just how valuable a jewel Reiki is both as a healing practice and as a spiritual path.
Really a great book!Review Date: 2004-07-08
Anyway, this book makes Reiki practice simple. It is very comprehensive but is a wonderful book to have and refer to often.
The English is abit messy but easliy understood.
I also recommend Steve Murray's Ultimate Reiki book. Another wonderful book. I think these two books are important works in the field of Reiki today.

Keeping Your Energy Positive and HowReview Date: 2007-03-20
As I have stated in previous reviews: Dr. orloff like Dr. Mona Lisa Schultz are real doctors with degrees from legitimate educational institutions. They still maintain board certification and licensure in their field. Please keep this in mind when seeking counsel during an often vulnerable time in your life. People who are willing to be held accountable to an authority are those who are more likely to be trustworthy because there is a built in structure for ethics and putting the client first. These two ladies are true to the hippocratic oath of do no harm.
Other goodies from non-medical writers based on more personal experience but worth noting: The Circle by Laura Day, Trust Your Gut by Lynn Robinson, PowerHunch by Marcia Emery, The Intuitive Way by Penney Peirce, and books from Elaine Aron on being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP).
On the flipside: Do you due diiligence on the credentials, even at the Ph.D. level of other more woo-woo writers on this field of energy and intuitive healing .... before you listen to their counsel. Many of them have Ph.D.'s from unaccredited places ... which means they didn't go through the same kind of rigor. Writers such as Doreen Virtue, Sonia Choquette, Carolyn Myss, John Gray, Barbara De Angelis, etc .... are examples of Ph.D.s whose source were unaccredited universities. Please keep this in mind when venturing out to learn from a healer ...

Prior to reading "Unmasking the Rose," I knew very little about kundalini. My understanding was a remote recollection of a snake lying at the base of the spine. However, after reading Dr. Walter's superb autobiography, I am convinced that kundalini awakening (k.a.) is very important in terms of our shared spiritual destiny. It may very be the universal cornerstone of mysticism.
What makes Dr. Walter's book so helpful and inspiring is her approach, which is very honest and down to Earth. K.A., traditionally reserved for the select few (living in monasteries and caves) has now been made accessible to a much larger audience. Dr. Walter's is a modern day mystic, with one foot in the material world and the other in eternity.
Furthermore, I truly believe in the authenticity of her awakening. Why? Because of the setting, Dr Walters has spent most of her life living and working in the Midwest. This region is not very well versed in any spiritual discipline but traditional Christianity. Yet, despite the dearth of information or encouragement, Dr. Walters found herself immersed in a classical k.a. It is clear that to accomplish this it was necessary for her to connect with an inner guide.
Before concluding, I wish to mention Dr. Walter's wonderful anthology of poetry, "Marrow of Flame." It is a perfect complement to her autobiography. Both books are an expression of her depth and honesty.
