Caribbean Books

This is a collection of works by one of Latin America's most distinguished academic and literary families. Presented here, in a single volume, is a wealth of styles, subjects, and forms united, perhaps, solely by the uncommonly high quality of the writing itself. The anthology includes uncollected pieces, and English translations by the Oxford poet Bruce Phenix.

This is a good book for peptide chemist. It has detailed protocol for almost all useful information about Fmoc solid phase peptide synthesis which is used in most of the peptide company, in our company, this book acts as a standard reference for our daily production. I strongly recommend you to buy one if you are or you want to be a peptide chemist.

If you're like me, you had already decided you were going to Bermuda by the time you bought this book. That made the part of the book that described the hotels not worth much too us, since we had already booked our hotel. But I will tell you that the restaurant guide alone is worth the price of this book. It details a lot (not all) of the restaurants in Bermuda, gives you an idea of the pricing and the type of food. Food is very, very expensive in Bermuda and can significantly add to the price of your vacation. There are few to none all-inclusive resorts in Bermuda, so you are going to have to buy food. We were able to use this guide, and plan out our meals, picking one very nice restaurant our last night, and mid priced family type restaurants the rest of our stay. It also has good info on the attractions. For these reasons, I gave this book five stars.

Still the best. Comprehensive, well organized, easy on the eyes, easy on the hands, and compact enough to take with you wherever you go. None of those fancy-schmancy pictures and other graphics that just distract you from what you're looking for. Of course, as with all guidebooks, sometimes the ratings make you wonder what they were smoking at the time; also I could do without those advertisement pages in the middle of the book. Don't rely too much on outdated editions, because of how often places open and close, or change hands (and, therefore, quality), or show effects of recent factors like construction or hurricanes.

This book was so valuable on our trip to Puerto Rico! It included a lot of information about hotels, restaurants, and activities. I would buy Fodor's for any vacation to any place!

Very good book. We always research our vacation destinations prior to a vacation, planning out our meal and activity highlights. Fodor's is comprehensive and accurate.

This and Frommer's guides always make up the bulk of my reseach before a production. In this case, I shot 2 weeks in the US and British Virgin Islands, relying mainly on these books. They offset each others weekness and/or gaps. Also, their contradicitons in beach or housing ratings are interesting. The maps are good including Ferry company names so you can look up the travel times and dates on the internet. (Just avoid Speedy's old Ferrys, one blew its engine and almost sank on me going to Virgin Gorda. We were rescued just in time.) I shot "The Best Virgin Island Beaches" DVD here on Amazon.com. So, after you read about these places, and you really want to see, hear and feel them, check our our DVDs.

I wrote this book because I have always been moved by the experience of consuming Caribbean food, and because I love reading and writing about it -- whether it be my own writing, or reading the writing of others. The awareness that diverse groups of people have come together -- in various states of contentment and discontentment -- to produce even a morsel of one Caribbean meal both humbles and excites me. It was out of this modest idea that I wrote this book. I hope you enjoy it. I would love to answer any questions you have about it.

Cameron's approach beats the other guidebooks in its up to date assessment of the country's politics and history as it relates to each of the regions you plan on visiting. Relevant sidebar info is sprinkled throughout the book to provide the reader with something other than the usual monotonous listings of hotels, restarants, and places to visit--though she knows her stuff here as well. This book is the most currently published of all the other titles out there.

I just picked this up and am headed to St Lucia next week (will update after I return). After getting this book, the Insight guide, and the Rough guide (which is anything but rough) I like this best. It's throw-in-your pocket small, chock full of info, and every page I open, I find things I want to do, and enough instruction on how to go about doing it. It has nice maps, and things seem well organized by topic (nice notable for parents- kids section). The top 10 list of things to do peaked my interest: every one of the items sound GREAT. I think this book is more tumed to the active traveller that really wants to get out and see their destination. I gave this 5 stars because it's the best guide I have for getting around, but it is lacking pictures, of which it only has a few. No big deal, I'll take my own :)
