This book clearly explains what wellness and how to achieve it. Yes, it may seem like an ad for chiropractors, but not many people know how chiropractic is beneficial outside of neck and back pain. It also is a one stop resource for healthy eating habits, exercise habits, and a good way to restore you mental vitality. THIS IS WHAT WELLNESS IS ABOUT.

After reading Discover Wellness, even the most casual observer can recognize how painfully obvious it is that making better/smarter lifestyle choices will result in an overall improvement of health and well-being. What I like about this book is that it puts all of this information into perspective and makes it not only easy to understand, but actually easy to implement and follow. I can - and now want to - do this! I can AND WILL be healthier!

The information presented in Discover Wellness has been included in some of the hottest discussions in corporate America and is an important part of the platform in the 2008 Presidential Election. It is an easy read intended to provide as much information as possible so you can educate yourselves, family and friends and community about the magnitude of America's health care crisis. Unfortunately, this isn't an issue that we can ignore because it's NOT going away. If you want to keep up on how "staying health can make you rich" then this book is a must read!

Written by Dr. Bob Hoffman and Dr. Jason A. Deitch, Discover Wellness: How Staying Healthy Can Make You Rich is a guide to not only improving one's health and quality of life, but also foster pocketbook savings in the process. Chapters are filled with simple, time-tested methods for fostering improved health, from consciously applying better posture to promote spinal health to simple stretches ideal for engendering flexibility to guidelines for proper nutrition and exercise, the value of eating organic foods, and much more. Discover Wellness is simply a no-nonsense guide to help more people become less sick through inexpensive and easy-to-follow guidelines, and while not a substitute for a doctor's care, is decidedly invaluable for its practical preventative measures. Highly recommended.

When I first opened this book, I thought it was just going to be another "cookie-cutter" health and fitness "how to" book. Boy, was I wrong! This book is filled with things I never even thought about! I've always heard the saying, "you are what you eat" but I never heard "you are what you THINK!" The bottom line is, if you want to have a healthy body, you have to have healthy thoughts and emotions. Just as it's important to avoid toxic chemicals, it's important to avoid toxic thoughts. Easier said then done, but I'm practicing what I learned in Discover Wellness and I already see some impressive improvements.

What an inspiration Ms. Hyman-Fead is! A must-read for anyone dealing with cancer in their life or the life of a loved-one. Her story, as well as her paintings and poetry, are a true testament to the strength and courage she possesses. Her story is proof that a positive outlook and a little bit of attitude goes a long way when battling life-threatening disease.

A Must Read

Anyone battling a serious illness must read 'I Can Do This' for the inspiring prose and poetry Beverlye Hyman Fead offers. A unique account of how when the going got tough, this woman got going, doing everything she could to win the fight against a terminal diagnosis. Armored by family and friends, Ms. Fead rolled the dice and opted for a medical treatment many would shy away from. So far so good. In the pages of 'I Can Do This' she takes inventory of her life and makes changes where changes need to be made. I gave this book to my brother, also battling a terminal diagnosis. He feels less alone in his determination to beat the odds. If Beverlye Hyman Fead can do this, maybe he can, too.

Those of us who are familiar with the work of Dr. Alfred Tomatis have been waiting for this book for a long time. Finally, we have a comprehensive account of the fascinating work done by Tomatis and the science behind his theories. After working with the method myself for two years, I am thrilled that Mr. Sollier has given us a detailed yet readable account of the power of listening and the impact it has on all facets of our lives.

As a friend and colleague I tremendously valued Pierre Sollier's work with the Tomatis Method, and witnessed the elaborate process of writing "Listening for Wellness". Having had, like Pierre, Dr. Alfred Tomatis as my trainer and mentor, I can assert that this is the most in depth book about Dr. Tomatis' theories, methods, treatment strategies, and human development philosophy.

With this unique book Pierre establishes himself as a master of introducing any reader with ease and clarity to the complexity of the Tomatis Method. He illustrates the multiple facets of the Tomatis Method and its applications in education and healing, from the perspective of an exceptional practitioner and therapist. Pierre forcefully sets the stage for understanding that this method has great implications in both human excellence and well being, as well as in ameliorating and healing a number of problems. In 1967 I was the the first person to use the Tomatis Electronic Ear in the United States at a time when the concept was truly "beyond the pale" in the Boston area.. I have known Pierre Sollier since the early 1990s. Although I have learned a great deal about this method over the years, I have eagerly awaited his book. Because of his rich association with Alfred Toamtis and his ability to translate his books, he is able to offer us insight that few others could have done or would have had the patience, perseverance and inclination to attempt. His book helps review what I know and has added immeasurably to my understanding. Having spent time helping out in Pierre's Californai center, I have known of Pierre's deep respect for all his clients and his joy in the work.. That approach and dedication shines forth in this extraordinary book. Elizabeth Verrill,

I have read many books written by Dr. Tomatis and have learned so much from them. I then read Pierre Sollier's book Listening for Wellness and was so surprised at the educational value of the book. I am a Tomatis Therapist and I am always trying to learn more about the Method. Pierre's book was concise, to the point, interesting, educational and revealing as to the basis for the Tomatis Method, how to evaluate a person for the Method, how to plan the treatment and what to expect from the treatment. It is easy to read for parents who wish to continue to learn more about the Tomatis Method so I would recommend it for parents as well as professionals. I refer to the book often and would recommend it to any new Tomatis Method therapist who wants to continue the educational process. It is also a good value for the price and the printing of the book is excellent with sewn binding not glued so it will last forever. Angela Sallerson RCTC

Great read, but with junk science

I believed for a time that the raw food movement was the best thing out there to restore you health, but it is taking a good thing a little too far. If your into the raw food, and/or the ionized water, as I was then this is for you. However, if your scouring the net for health info, then realize that Ionized water is based on "junk" science. How did God design water to be purified and drank? Look at something like the Wellness filter instead. "Water is purified by stone". Just like reverse osmosis water, ionized water wastes about half your water.
It was funny for a time we were wasting 3/4's of our water. The RO water system wasted 1/2. Then, after remineralizing it, we wasted another half ionizing it! Look elsewhere.

This book is very informative and educational. The information it provides is useful and well-documented. I started taking spirulina and chlorella six months ago and Achieving Great Health has been a very good resource for me. It is an easy read with well-documented support; I think everyone would benefit from this book, no matter what their understanding of health and nutrition. It is motivating and makes sense. McCauley provides a great resource to those looking for great health!

Traditional high-carb ADA approach to diabetes
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-07-31
This book is based on the traditional high-carbohydrate American Diabetic Association diet. I prefer to follow the newer alternative low-carbohydrate solution in dealing with my diabetic condition. Furthermore, "Managing your Diabetes" uses the exchange method of diet planning. I find this to be utterly confusing and meaningless in trying to plan a good diet. The book is repetitious of information I already have access to. But it is organized in such a way that people following the traditional approach would find very useful.

The best book I have found after much searching...

As a diabetes educator serving members over the phone, I recommend this book routinely. It is practical, upbeat and empowering. The few outdated bits of information can be supplemented with a good magazine like Diabetes Self Management.

Good Basic Plan For Diabetics

Review Date: 1999-10-18
I tried the low carb approach to dealing with my Diabetes and it didn't work for me. I ended up GAINING weight and felt like I was going to stroke out from all that fat and chloresterol laden stuff. I even suffered some angina while following a low carb life style. I also felt very deprived when dining with others. Now I'm following the food plan outlined in Managing Type II Diabetes and the weight is coming off slowly and I feel great. I think different approaches work for different people. I highly recommend this plan for people who can't live with the low carb diet. In fact, it's a healthy way of living for not only the diabetic in your family but other family members as well.
