Changed my mind about Ritalin

I was ready to try Ritalin with my daughter, if her ADHD started to interfere with her learning in school. I am so glad that a psychologist friend recommended this book to me. After reading this book, I am convinced that Ritalin is not the best choice. I have never understood the meaning of "homeopathic medicine", but now I do, and I will definitely take this route instead!

This is one of those books that stuck with me years after reading it and I felt compelled to write a review.

Chapter 2- Life in Overdrive is a great blue print of common ADHD behavior from a toddler to adulthood. Additionally, Chp 12 & 13 offers coaching techniques which focuses on the individual. p 102 "those are only your behaviors, not the real you."

Part 3 Real Stories of Real People-Successful Homeopathic Treatment of ADD - offers some insight on how specific Homeopathic Medicine helped their child.

I found in my experience that it would have been better to go to the practitioner 1st before reading Part 3 because it was too easy to reiterate some of the behaviors mentioned in the book which masked the child's unique characteristics. After the initial visit then I would have read Part 3 to see if the recommended homeopathic medicine matched the child's characteristics. Nevertheless, the practioner does a great job asking questions that relate to the child.

Note: Years ago when I read the book some of the sources recommended on p288 required an address and telephone numbers to be updated.

As the mother of four young children, I realized when one of my children was very young that he was an extremely high-energy, precocious bundle of energy. I found this book at my local library when I was trying to educate myself about the implications of ADHD, yet he was only three or four, so we waited a few more years before actually seeking treatment. Early on in our research, my husband and I agreed that we would do anything possible to improve his well-being without resorting to drugs. After a year under Dr. Reichenberg-Ullman's care, my seven year-old son has improved tremendously! Homeopathic treatment does not happen overnight, and it requires patience, and in our case, the first remedy did not make significant enough improvement, so we tried another, which has been nothing short of amazing! PLEASE READ THIS BOOK IF YOU OR ANYONE YOU KNOW IS DEALING WITH ADD/ADHD. Not only does the book include many case studies and real-life examples, I felt that it provided an overview of ADD/ADHD symptoms, conventional medications, and introduction to homeopathy. I have several copies that I loan to my son's teachers, coaches and family friends.

As the mother of several boys with ADHD, I can tell you that this book changed our family dynamics forever! I had been searching for help for so many yars and not wanting to use drugs. I looked at many natural options but didn't find any lasting help. We resorted to Ritalin out of despiration. They were on this for a year before a friend fround this book and brought it to my attention. The book is well written and easy to understand. I saw my boys in so many of the stories in this book and found hope again that my children could get the help that they needed without drugs. Dr Reichenberg has subsequently treated our entire family with amazing results. Homeopathy is not just for treating ADD/ADHD. You have to read this book if your family or someone you care about is struggling with this or any other physical, or emotional issues. It will change your life!

This book is fantastic. I recommend it to any person who has a ADD/ADHD child. I truly possible to make your child better without Ritalin. I may take awhile because homeopathy seems so hard, but it works. As a engineer, I don't easily believe things like this, so when I saw homeopathy work I was amazed.

After reading Elsa Cort's reviews of this text, I was hoping this would be the "definitive text" for CranioSacral Therapy for me that it was for her. Unfortunately, this text added little to my previous studies. Having studied cranial work from the Cranial Academy and CranioSacral Therapy from the Upledger Institute, this text did little to expand my knowledge. For my money, there are better books in the market.

If every Massage Therapy School would teach The Heart of Listening's lessons on "transference" and "counter-transference," I believe Hugh Milne would have provided a direly needed understanding and set of constructive guidelines for therapists who are human and therefore tend to get into trouble when in close contact with other humans.

There are many other extraordinarily helpful and interesting stories, explanations and illustrations to be found in The Heart of Listening. If you believe that truth is beauty and beauty truth, I think you would deeply appreciate Hugh Milne's book. It is a fine creative effort, especially in presentation of both the technical and spiritual aspects of Visionary Craniosacral Work.

Another thing I like about the writing: Milne doesn't take credit for someone else's work. Quite the contrary. I noticed meticulous care in giving credit where credit is due. A certain humility permeates this book, letting the reader know the author is not just knowledgeable in a gentle way, but quite honest. Jockeying for "who's the best" status obviously isn't a Milne characteristic.

Highly recommend

Hugh Milne's 2 vol. set combines poetry, art, and technique in the field of Craniosacral Therapy. Great insight to the therapist's process, as well as, the client. It goes beyond the technical to the artful and creative process of being with your client, as you help their body heal itself. Not only beautiful, and inspiring, but deals, in detail, with the technical aspects of craniosacral work. It is a definite "must" in the library of the body worker who wants to go beyond the ordinary.

Well written with a good index, bibliography and footnotes for each chapter. The author's analogies are also quite helpful as it is really a book that tries to teach a feeling, hands on, touch subject. The diagrams are accurate and easy to follow. At times there are references to techniques that are in the next volume. Volume one deals with the background, history and cerebral/philosophical aspects of craniosacral work. These aspects are a key to how the author practices craniosacral work. This is not just a technical manual of how to shift bones. It deals with energetic aspects of healing as well. As I am a veterinarian, the medical aspects were easy to follow. I cannot speak to how someone with less anatomical training would see the text.

It is interesting to see such divergent opinions and ratings regarding this book. Does it mean that a person looking for texts on craniosacral therapy should accept the average rating for this book to mean that it is middle of the road? Hmmm....I don't think so. For the person seeking out help with their healing process, craniosacral work is only as valuable as the consciousness of the practitioner is clear and open. Milne writes that "presence is more important than technique." He also teaches that it is important to learn the techniques well and to have a fully-equipped, expert tool bag (realizing that this may take many, many years of practice to acquire). Then the practitioner will have just the right technique that may be intuitively chosen for each individual in their own timing and need. It is also important to realize that no one is the sole authority on craniosacral work. If you have undertaken a journey to incorporate craniosacral work in your practice, it would be wise for you to read many books or articles on the work, including the words of Rollin Becker, Don Cohen, Hugh Milne, Michael Shea, Franklyn Sills, William Sutherland, John Upledger and others. The best way to learn the work is to wipe the slate clean before each bodywork session, before each study session, before each class, and let the cranial wave and dreambody of the person offered before you to teach you what craniosacral work is and what is needed. This includes the practitioner accessing his/her own cranial wave as a wisdom teacher. The truth is--craniosacral work cannot be completely written down in any book or completely taught in any class. It can only be wholly known in the place where there are no words. This book just may be the help and the inspiration for you to be able to arrive in the place of no words and no doing, the time/space where the "breath of life" (Sutherland) is united with the blue print for health. The world needs this work. Let us all learn to listen with our hearts, and keep our minds open in the process.

Hydrogen peroxide therapies
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-23
1. Cancer cells are less virulent and may be destroyed by the presence of a high oxygen environment.

2. Hydrogen peroxide given by transfusion and orally has the ability to increase the oxygen content of the blood stream which will increase the oxygen environment of the cancer cell.

3. Clinical evidence suggests hydrogen peroxide is a valuable adjunct in the treatment of cancer.

4. Dr. Donsbach utilizes vitamin therapy, mineral therapy, hyperthermia (heating up the body), and other natural modalities during the patients course of treatment. He includes dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) which helps mitigate the irritation that some patients experience with hydrogen peroxide. He gives daily infusions of hydrogen peroxide and DMSO to all patients throughout their courses of treatment at the hospital. In his book "Oxygen-Peroxide-Ozone", says, "The rectal tip is introduced and a thirty second burst of humidified ozone is injected into the rectum, yielding about one-half liter. It is very painless and the report I have seen indicate a higher concentration of oxygen can be achieved in the blood stream by this method then injecting the ozone directly into the bloodstream."

5. At the Hospital in Santa Monica where Dr Donsbach practices approximately 70 percent of the patients are alive three years after their first visit the facility. Some are cured, some are in remission and some are slowly dying.

6. Dr. Beverly Teicher of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston said "the lack of oxygen was hampering treatment by protecting the tumor against conventional therapies such as radiation and chemotherapy. By increasing the oxygen levels in the tumor, conventional therapy can be more successful."

7. Synthetic blood may provide a future method for boosting the amount of oxygen in the blood and cancer sites.

8. Dr. Warburg's studies link cancerous tumors to low oxygen levels and the ability of bio-oxidative therapies to destroy tumors by increasing oxygen tension in the malignant cells.

9. Dr. Horst Kief has been using autohomologous immunotherapy (AHIT) extensively to treat a variety of cancers.

"Oxygen Healing Therapies" Quite Worthy of Reading

Ok. I have some comments to make before actually reviewing the book.

1. First, Charles H. Farr, M.D., Ph.D. WAS nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine, 1993. There's no "supposedly" about it. Second, Thomas J. Wenger should shut his mouth. He obviously knows nothing of the history of oxygen therapy's successes (as well as all its political trials) and should therefore refrain from making comments. Degrees mean nothing. Experience is everything. And Thomas Wenger, obviously, has no experience in this matter. (Thinking a DRUG or "VACCINE" is going to "cure" you is an example of insanity, NOT using such proven methods as oral oxygen/ozone/hydrogen peroxide, ozone insufflations, minor/major autohemotherapy, Direct IV hydrogen peroxide/ozone, polyatomic apheresis, etc. ALL oxygen therapies have been proven. Show me what drug, any drug, has cured someone. THERE ISN'T ONE!)

2. Whoever said to read "Flood Your Body with Oxygen" FIRST is correct. Ed McCabe is the REAL oxygen therapy expert. Still, this book has its merits and deserves to be read.

3. amazon3131, I do not know about the "oxygen in dirt" claim. I know there's a LOT up there in the sky (upper atmosphere), but as for the ground I don't know. I can't really comment on that one.

"did you know that all cancer cells are anaerobic?"
I don't know what you're trying to argue here (I detected some mocking in that statement), but cancer cells ARE anaerobic. (I have heard that they use SOME oxygen, but it is VERY small amounts.) When cells are denied access to enough oxygen their respiration mechanisms switch over to fermentation, like plant cells. If young enough, they can switch back if the proper amounts of oxygen are resumed, but mature cells can't.

"Ozone ... is NOT "energized oxygen"'
Correct (yet not). It's allotropic or triatomic oxygen, also called "activated" oxygen. (It is only "energized" in the sense that it has extra energy from the electron, but it's technically called "allotropic/triatomic/activated" oxygen.)

"it's three Oxygen molecules unstably and briefly linked together (O3 for short)."
Yes. Correct.

"Your cells CAN NOT use O3 for metabolic purposes. You MUST have O2 (normal oxygen gas) for that purpose."
False. You can't use it for DIRECT "metabolic purposes". Ozone WILL increases metabolic activity of cells. However, whether that is from it changing back to oxygen or from direct contact is up to debate. (It's recommended to have BOTH types of oxygen: stable (02) AND unstable (O3, O4, O5, O6, O7, O8, etc.).

"O3 readily degrades into normal/useful O2, plus a single Oxygen free radical (but not usually enough of it to do you any real harm before it reacts with something else into a stable state)."
Correct. Exactly what I was saying above. The extra oxygen is used for oxidizing. It will not harm normal healthy (animal) cells. They have protective anti-oxidant coatings. Chemicals, Toxins, and anerobes do not. That is why they are immediately oxidized and can never be immune.

4. Joseph S Maresca, good job.

5. Joburgpete "irridium", very good job.

6. hoperanch, good job.

7. As for the contents of the book, a few things could be better but overall I think it delivers highly valuable and essential information, and therefore deserves to be read.

"Oxygen Healing Therapies" Made of Thin Air

Before the reader even gets to the largely bogus contents of this bizarre tome, the front cover misleads the incautious purchaser with an announcement in the very center of the page of a foreword by Charles H. Farr, M.D., Ph.D. who supposedly was "Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Medicine, 1993"
With only the slightest effort on my part, I learned that the Nobel Prize nominations are sealed for 50 years from EVERYONE'S review and, according to the secretary of the Nobel Committee in Stockholm, Sweden, "nomination claims are by definition non-valid."
With this type of very questionable honesty at the very beginning of the book, it is unlikely that any portion of it has much scientific or practical value and I would discard the book as worthless. There is not a 0 star rating or I would give it this score instead of a 1 star. A number of the therapies suggested in the book cause me, as a physician, to shake my head in disbelief that any rational person would subject themselves or their loved ones to this inanity, not to mention potential danger.

An interseting book, but I much prefer the work of Ed McCabe, the real master of Oxygen Therapies. His latest book Flood Your Body with Oxygen which I could not put down, gets to grip with the subject in a fascinating way and style that Altman does not have. Overall it is a fair book.

Even though this book was published in 1994 and thus doesn't include some of the latest research on osteoporosis, I found it incredibly helpful in understanding this disease as well as other health issues I face. Because it addresses other health issues, it helped me to understand how one problem may impact bone health, though it may not necessarily be the direct cause of osteoporosis. I was particularly impressed with the section on food allergies and want to try to implement his elimination diet in some way. I have long suspected that I have some other food allergies and wonder if they might be a contributing factor to the osteoporosis? Since I am also hypothyroid I appreciated his discussion of this issue, also the constant references to absorption and resorption.

It is one of the few health books I have read from cover to cover in the last few months. There is a lot of information in the book. I did occasionally find some of the explanations a bit technical for me, but it showed me that the writer has a good understanding of the topics he discusses, and I am sure they are helpful to other readers. I certainly would not let that stop me from highly recommending this book. I also appreciated his discussion of the medical profession's resistance to alternative healing.

Out of Date and Not Evidence Based

Review Date: 2006-10-17
This book was published in 1995 (so of course was written in about 1993-94) so its information is very out of date. Since that time technology has introduced the BMD bone density scan, and the pharmaceutical industry has developed and promoted the use of bisphosphonates such as Fosamax and Evista. These two developments alone have rendered this book totally out of date and therefore not useful, in my opinion. Also, the information is not evidence-based, most of his recommendations are based on anecdotal and observed results, rather than on scientific studies. What he has to say is interesting, sometimes even fascinating, but is it accurate? For example, his recommendations on caffeine are based on the result of an "experiment" of giving three cups of coffee to five women. I don't consider that evidence-based medical protocol.

A vastly better source of information is The Myth of Osteoporosis, by Gillian Sanson, published in 2003. Her book is exhaustively researched, she cites medical and research studies involving hundreds and thousands of subjects, she covers the newest technologies and medications. The only thing missing from her book (because it was published a few years ago) is the very latest information about the potential dangers of Fosamax and the class-action lawsuits about the death of bone in the jaw that has caused people to have their jaws removed. She provides excellent suggestions for improving bone health, including exercise, dietary changes, supplements, and other ways to beat osteoporosis. She doesn't say that osteoporosis is a myth, she just debunks some of the myths surrounding this condition. I highly recommend this book over the Gaby book.

This book is excellent and has surpassed my expectations of information, not only on osteoporosis, but many other aspects of health care. In fact, I am so pleased with it that I have bought a total of 4 copies, 3 being for my children. Two of them are in health care, and the third will also benefit immensely from the knowledge this book provides. Thank you, Dr. Gaby, for writing this book and sharing your knowledge and research with those of us with osteoporosis, and those who can head off its devastating effects.

I've been suffering from epilepsy for a while now, and dutifully took my anti-epliptic meds for a long time and it did reduce my seizures but at a great price. My memory was horrible, concentration poor and general well-being was suffering because of the meds. After reading this book, and practicing a lot of the nutritional guidelines and many others things in it, and using other information I found on my own, my seizures are decreasing and I've been decreasing my medication too.

It is hard work to try the 'natural' way and takes alot of self control and inner reflection. It may not be for everyone, but as for me, I prefer eating a healthy diet than taking chemicals that cause negative side effects. Great book.

Reading this book was like finding burid treasure.

I used to believe an epileptic (like myself) just went to his doctor every 6 months, had a brief visit, and gave me a prescription for more pills.

Little did I know that there a number of things I can do to improve my condition on my own in addition to taking my pills. I do not have all day to list them but if you want to learn for yourself take a few hours of your life and read this book.

It can improve your condition dramatically buy it. If you want to continue on without hope and having seizures don't bother. Just go to your doctor every 6 months and keep taking your pills so you have as few as possible.

If you don't have your health you don't have anything. If you would like to buy the supplements listed in this book in one bottle (which are all safe) please go to a website by Dr. Balch.

Go to google and as the subject type in DR BALCH EPILEPSY.

I read the entire book and I have implemented some of the nutritional suggestions which Ms. Murphy made to help control my son's epilepsy, which has never been well-controlled by medication. I have found that these changes seem to be reducing his seizures. I thought her complete review of vitamins and nutrients and how they interact with neurological processes was very well-written and easy to understand. Additionally, her assertions are backed up by other well-known medical professionals whose books I have read, so I think her research was thorough.

I think it has almost been 6 weeks now. I can't believe how simple it was. And all I did was the basic things. I still haven't employed everything. I still have my auras but they are changing and I am incorporating more of the strategies to reduce them. I have a new life. If you want to change your life, read these two books. The "A-Z" Guide is an essential reference book for anyone who take supplements (vitamins, minerals, or herbs) and also takes medication of any kind--whether over-the-counter or prescription.

This is a comprehensive and very easy-to-use reference guide. You can look up either the medicine or the supplement and found out whether there are any known interactions--positive or negative.

Sometimes the Guide recommends supplements to take along with the medication because the drug either depletes a nutrient (e.g. Lipitor and Coenzyme Q10) or reduces a drug's side effects (e.g. Zoloft and Ginkgo). At other times you shouldn't take the drug and the supplement together because.

Thousands and thousands of well-referenced interactions are included in this valuable book.

NOTE: Some of the earlier reviews of this book refer to the first edition. They cite some legitimate concerns--which appear to have been remedied in the 2nd Edition.

I purchased this book as I have fibromyalgia and wanted to try some alternative therapies, and ensure their safety with my prescription medications. I feel that it is an excellent guide for that, and actually is quite useful as a simplified prescription medication guide. It is easy to use, easy to understand, and does a great job of listing and describing medication/herbal/vitamin/supplement interactions. I purchased one for my parents, and my sister purchased one as well. Very useful book if you take any medications and any other type of supplement.

Includes just about every medication available, with the exception of those released after its publication.

I am taking a medication that isn't BRAND new to the market but isn't by any means OLD either. It has been released within the last 4 years. I was hoping it would be in this book as I am also taking herbal supplements, but it wasn't. There were other drugs that were supposed to be for the same conditions, but since they are different chemicals the interactions were potentially different, so I didn't find this helpful.

That said, there are plenty of maintstream medications like antibiotics, etc. included in this book so it might be helpful to some folks. I just think that drugs, like computers, change so quickly that books like this can't cover everything. I am on the fence with my recommendation on this one.

After reading this book (very dry read, hard to finish), I had NAET over the course of several years with 3 different practitioners. I figured when it didn't work with the first one that it was their technique at fault, not the method. After thousands of dollars, not covered by insurance, and absolutely zero results I gave it up. I had chronic back tension which I hadn't had before but no allergy relief. I did try Bowen work, which is a similar idea of opening the energy channels which doesn't involve the spine. After 10 sessions I could grow flowers again and have them in my house, after sneezing for 3 years solid. Another 10 sessions greatly reduced my asthma to managable levels. I didn't have further improvement, but by then I'd moved to another area and I think my Bowen worker had a different technique. I don't recommend this book.

We all know that close friends, relatives or colleagues who have something to gain write the 5 stars critics. They are really objective.
This book is a 0 star and should be taken off the market. I can't believe it is still being sold. It is misleading. It taps into the thousands of people vulnerability who are so desperate to find a cure for themselves or their young children they are ready to try anything.
I was one of these people.I bought the book, read it, sounded promising so I made an appointment to see Dc Cutler. I was her patient for some time but got no relief. I spend quite a bit of money on the products she wanted me to take but nothing changed!
Ellen Cutler is a charlatan in my opinion. She actually laid me to believe her treatment cured me from my egg white allergy. I believed her at first but the following week, I had a conversation with her assistant while getting another treatment she said Mrs., "you were NEVER ALLERGIC to egg white. WOW! I could not believe it. I still gave a chance to Mrs. Cutler treatment for a few more weeks. But no results, no change. It was clear I was wasting my time and my money. So I stop seeing her.
Now several years later although still allergic to egg yolk, cat and dog, I am feeling better as far as my asthma goes because I finally got out of a 30 years abusive marriage.

Excellent coverage for persons trying to identify the various triggers for asthma and allergies. This is also a primer for persons wanting to explore the NAET system of allergy elimination of Dr. Devi Nambudripad. Covers usage of plant enzyme therapy as well.

....

To anyone who is reading this review, seeking hope for allergy CURING: ignore the negative comments and judge for yourself. ....

NAET is incredible, it is totally new, and something you will find yourself questioning when you read about it (because it is so different to the status quo medical approach). But let me tell you from personal experience: IT WORKS!

I have eliminated car sickness with NAET, and am currently working on my severe pollen fever. I'm seeing big results! If I can cure my pollen fever, don't you think you can cure YOUR allergies?

At least study it, and even find a practitioner ... and try it instead of point-blank giving up an opportunity to end your suffering. Those who dismiss this new approach to allergies without even trying it (!!!) have no one to blame but themselves for their unresolved allergies.

....

GOOD LUCK!

Ellen Cutler's work is visionary. It works whereas nothing else seems to - After being chronically ill for years and searching, full time, for a medical and/or alternative practitioner who could help me, finding and being treated by Ellen Cutler is like finding a needle in a haystack. I am eternally grateful that I have found her located so close to where I live. She is a kind and compassionate soul.

I see that another reviewer has judged her work without experiencing it which is what prompted me to post this review. That reviewer has done his or herself a disservice to judge Ellen Cutler's work without first hand experience.

Secondly, another reviewer was looking for a practitioner. Here you can connect to a nationwide list of practitioners and veterinarians.

I believe this technique has the potential to become the foundation for the practice of medicine and that by use of this technique in children, they never have to develop chronic illnesses by correcting imbalances at their onset of symptoms.

Ellen Cutler's technique is fascinating, as is she.

Like all Sahelian's books, this one on 5-HTP is accessible and comprehensible to all of us without qualifications in chemistry or psychiatry. An amino acid, 5-hydroxitryptophan is a natural alternative to anti-depressants like Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil. Whereas the drugs work by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, 5-HTP raises serotonin levels in a natural way and therefore has fewer and less severe side effects. The seeds of the Griffonia Simplicifolia tree is a rich source of 5-HTP.

The author discusses the whole spectrum of the substance's application in e.g. alleviating depression, reducing anxiety, counteracting compulsive & obsessive behavior, weight loss & the suppression of food cravings, assisting with sound sleep, alleviating migraine, treating alcoholism and inhibiting hyperactivity. In addition, he appraises other supplements that have shown some efficacy in these conditions and that may enhance the therapeutic effect of 5-HTP.

Sahelian's personal experiences with the supplement are described in detail, whilst physicians that use it in practice provide a wide range of opinions & observations. The effectiveness of 5-HTP is dependent on many variables, all of which are investigated, e.g. dosages, when to take it, on an empty stomach or with food & its interaction with caffeine. The amino acid Tryptophan which has a milder antidepressant effect also receives attention.

For more information on 5-HTP, I recommend 5-HTP The Natural Alternative to Prozac by John Morgenthaler and for further information on a wide spectrum of natural memory, mind & mood enhancers I recommend Mind Boosters by Sahelian, The DHEA Breakthrough by Stephen Cherniske and the work of Ronald Klatz.

I have been researching 5-HTP for some time, and using the web as a vital resource. When evaluating books on the subject, this one came highly rated by an online review by Steven Wm. Fowkes, Sr. Director of the Cognitive Enhancement Research Institute (CERI):

I recommend anyone considering reading a book on 5-HTP to examine this review first. I would publish it here, but for the copyright considerations. Cheers!

Well-written, but anecdotal, not scientific

This is the only book I have read on 5-HTP. I have tried several different SSRIs for anxiety and depression, but I am not fond of their various "side effects." Having experimented a little with St. John's Wort, kava, passionflower, and SAM-e (which, as of October, does work for me, but inconsistenly), all to no avail, I wanted to give 5-HTP a try. I agree that Ray Sahelian's book is both hopeful and cautious. Reading it gave me hope that 5-HTP might have some benefit. However, while Sahelian does go to great effort to document evidence of this drug's success via the various (mostly European) studies and trials that have taken place with 5-HTP, it's clear that many of these studies are too small to be of any real scientific value. (Most involve only 20-30 participants.) And, because of the small scale of most of these studies, Sahelian's whole book has a very anecdotal quality to it. This is reinforced by the fact that Sahelian bases some of his conclusions about 5-HTP's effectiveness on his own successful experimentation with the drug. I also find it a little scary that, even though Sahelian does take a cautious tone, this book sort of presents 5-HTP as something that's mostly safe. However, we know very little about the long-term effects of taking 5-HTP. It would be great if our society was devoted to investigating something such as 5-HTP more thoroughly as it seems to hold such promise. Unfortunately, my few experiments with 5-HTP have not proved to be as positive as Mr. Sahelian's. I have ended up feeling extremely anxious and wired when I take 5-HTP. That's frustrating to me, as I would like to believe that 5-HTP could provide some of the benefits of SSRIs without the annoying side effects.

I disagree with the previous reviewer. Perhaps it was Michael Murray himself or a family member who wrote it. I have read three books on 5-HTP and without hesitation I can say Dr. Sahelian's book was the most informative, practical, and clinical. The low dosages he recommends, along with his personal and professional experiences that tolerance can develop and one should not use 5-HTP all the time without a break are all very helpful. I got sick from 5-HTP when I followed Michael Murray's recommendation of taking more than 300 mg a day. I got nauseated and threw up. I don't think other authors of books on 5-HTP have as much experience as does Dr. Sahelian.I'm doing much better now with the Medical Doctor's advice.

Regarding the previous two reviews, each has merit. The bottom line is that both books offer considerable information on the benefits of 5-HTP. For many it is proving to be a viable solution to the conditions that plague so many. Sahelian's book offers clear cut information that is easy to understand. My sister has taken 5-HTP for a while now and is seeing great improvement without suffering from the side effects of the SSRI she had been on previously. A site where she has had great service as well as a variety of product choices is iHerb. She is pleased that they offer several choices of 5-HTP with dosages as low as 50 mg. so she could initially start with a low dosage and then find what works best for her.

I've always had the fantasy of becoming an apprentice to a gifted Native American medicine woman--that is until reading "American Indian Healing Arts" by E. Barrie Kavasch and Karen Baar, when my fantasy became a reality. This book is rich with history, accurate herbal information, great medicinal recipes presented in an easy to follow format. "American Indian Healing Arts" is wonderfully reflective of Native American spiritual practices especially in its attention to rites of passage and stages of life. The tender manner with which the information is presented is welcoming, encouraging, inclusive and heartwarming--bound to lead many an apprentice down the path of pursuing greater understanding of Native American medicine.

I found this book to lack depth and explanation. It vaguely lists certain herbs and plants that are of a healing nature, but the true content I was looking for was not here. I wanted more in-depth remedies for particular ailments, where this book applies certain remedies to a very hazy and small range of problems. I was also looking for a guide to ritualistic traditions rather than unmeasurable herbal concoctions.

Being the author of two books on cleansing and rejuvenating the body, The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush, and Timeless Secrets of Health & Rejuvenation, I can only praise Linda's precious work and recommend it to anyone interest in improving his health. Without cleansing the organs and systems of the body we stand little chance of being healthy or restoring our health in this pollution-ridden world. These types of books are what the population now needs to overcome the current impasse that stifles our health care system and makes this a very sick country. Taking responsibilty for our own health is the only real way out of the current crisis that afflicts so many. Reading this book is an eye-opener and will serve you well on your path to good and lasting health.

If you're interested in cleansing yourself or just learning the benefits of why you should, this is it. I would really recomend this book.

This book is a page turner and full of interesting information. I was ready to recommend this book to everybody, until I got to the chapters on cleansing - then the book turned into an "info-mercial" for Dr. Jeffery Bland's products. As far as I'm concerned, skip the chapters having to do with cleansing and read the rest.
