A Fresh Outlook on FitnessReview Date: 2006-03-21
The book is both motivational and inspirational. The "Action Journal" exercises provide an excellent approach to implement change. Pointed questions encourage self examination. The reader is provided the nudge needed to get started in a personal program of fitness and well being.
Carefully selected quotes from respected self help and fitness "gurus" enhance the essence of material presented. The suggested reading, at the end of each chapter, provide a valuable tool for future reference and adds to the value of this outstanding guide. I found myself eager to make change in my eating habits, my exercise plan, and in creating a better balance in my life.
Fostering friendships, enjoying laughter, and finding time for family, are a few of the gems that accompany the meaningful endeavors and spiritual insights, which often surface during the reflective moments found in this exciting reading experience.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to take that next step in starting or resuming a fitness program for life.

A little disappointing....Review Date: 2005-12-05
I was up to page 85 wondering when anything of real value beyond a lot of rah-rah was going to appear. Sadly, that did not happen. Even the chapters that were designed to enlighten about shopping and training, were basically hollow.
I was gravely disappointed in this book and even find it quite perfunctory and remedial for even a beginner to the lifestyle.
While I do appreciate the emotional support and 'You can achieve it' sentiment -- it was most repetitive and truly took away pages and pages from what could have been a wonderful book if it ever got past the cheerleading and proceeded deeper into fitness.
I strongly recommend Christine Lydon's book 'Look Hot, Live Long'; Beth Horn's book "The Natural Way"; or Bodyfitness for Women: Your Way to Physical Perfection, written by Gerard Thorne and Phil Embleton

Superbly motivational for life overall, with few flawsReview Date: 2006-03-07
The Odiatus' book is at its best when it is being positive and empowering in an attempt to help anyone get started. I've been nagged and nagged myself, and even work in public health, but reading this book brought me to a self-realization that fitness can be a life change to make it a solid part of who you are, and that's something that requires work. The best part about this message is that it is as true for people searching for weight loss as it is for those looking to build muscle, run a marathon, or simply be healthier.
The book is organized nicely, with inspirational quotes throughout coming from a flurry of spiritual and motivational thinkers. The book also includes many practical exercises and workbook / journal pages to help guide anyone through the content and reinforce the message of each chapter. With a clear foundation in the idea that intention can manifest reality, the book pushes readers through chapters on taking action, goals, attitude, relationships, nutrition, shopping, vitamins, body image, balance, and even spirituality.
While the book is sometimes light on the depth and could use more concrete information to educate as well as empower, the undercurrent of dedication to lifestyle change is there, and is possibly even more invaluable to people who simply can't bring themselves to change their lives. Without being "preachy," the Odiatus find a way to discuss relationships as an element of fitness, something that is rarely seen or spoken about in such illuminating terms. While the lack of complexity is a double edged sword, the book has only minor flaws, such as its assumption of heterosexual relationships and lack of content for vegetarians. The only other drawback is the great deal of personal stories from the authors themselves, something that has its place in the text but could have been pushed to the backseat in place of more stories from other real people who did not have the chance to write a book.
The book attempts to empower readers based on what they know, an excellent starting point in today's junk information saturated society. Nonetheless, the book could have used some more tangible nutritional or exercise information to guide the reader through a fundamental understanding. Either way, the messages in this book are truly empowering and while I have not found myself working out regularly yet, my intentions and frame of mind have begun to transform ever so slightly. This is the first step to the Odiatu's "TLC" - Take action, Live the lifestyle, and Create balance. This book is useful as a general life motivational lesson and could easily be found in any self help or even new age spiritual section, making it diverse and accessible to many different readers for more than just physical fitness.

Natural Stomach Care - Book ReviewReview Date: 2004-02-11
It is surprising to learn just how many folk remedies are available to the interested person. Most of these remedies have been utilized around the world for hundreds if not thousands of years. All the material in this comprehensive discussion of the subject has been presented in a well organized and easy to follow format. The author first wants us to have an understanding as to how the body functions including the digestive process of food, the importance of restful sleep, proper daily nutrition, the reduction of stress in our lives as well as other factors which, when taken together, all contribute to a health life style. The author uses his many years of practice and research as a gastroenterologist to highlight the many factors that contribute to the wellness of the human body. Dr. Minocha corrects misconceptions that many people have held for years about the proper care and feeding of the stomach. In addition, he suggests many useful "natural remedies" for such ailments as inflammatory bowel disease, gastric ulcers, intestinal gas, constipation and other common digestive disorders. In another chapter he introduces detoxification techniques which, when applied, clean the gut of all impurities. A process that uses "probiotics" in which helpful microorganisms are introduced and help to keep the digestive process "in balance." Throughout the book the author provides helpful information on his subject, describing in detail each problem and how to either treat the ailment or the preventive measures necessary to prevent it from occurring.
Natural Stomach Care is highly recommended for people who are experiencing problems with their stomach or digestive system and are interested in learning about and applying "natural remedies" as an effective treatment for such ailments. Persons who are presently free of digestive and stomach problems will also benefit by learning natural preventive measures that when applied, should keep the stomach and digestive system properly working throughout a lifetime. Natural Stomach Care is a worthwhile addition to all consumer health collections in health sciences libraries and as a consumer book for public libraries.

Most people with GI disorders try everything possible because the medical profession simply doesn't have any answers other than surgery. I myself have tried about 15 different "cures" this book offers.Nothing worked.
I bought this book but don't reccomend that anyone else do so. If you want to read it, take it out of your library.

For true health, rather than suppressed symptomsReview Date: 2008-03-10
Good because of the wide assortment of material it includesReview Date: 2006-07-25
If you know much on herbs, you'd get frustrated seeing the cautious and very generic recommendations, and the same goes for some other areas. However, to have this much information on such a wide variety in one book is invaluable, an excellent idea and, even if not done completely up to par, worth owning. The authors act more as journalists in a way, objectively describing what the experts in each field would recommend for each condition, not taking an active stance much. The objective authors of course follow it up with ask your doctor and generic advice, but the book they've put together has served its use well enough.
The end section is great, as it's filled with illustrations on acupressure points, massages, reflexology jargon and charts, a few relaxation stretches, yoga illustrations (good amount of these). This section alone brought the book up another star - I'm a visual learner, and the diagrams can assist many people. Great segment!
The beginning is well-done, also, telling about each area of natural healing with background details and such. Having a book at your fingertips that will point you in the right direction for a variety of natural techniques is priceless. In order to learn this much about each would involve buying multiple books about seperate healing techniques - a book such as this saves mucho on the wallet, makes general browsing a breeze, and cuts your time in half. Not perfect in some areas, but certainly worth picking up!
Heal the natural way...Review Date: 2005-01-27
Part I: This part contains an overview of what natural healing is and then gives descriptions of various methods used in natural healing (ex. acupressure, aromatherapy, homeopathy, hydrotherapy, yoga).
Part II: This book lists many ailments in alphabetical order. It is easy to look them up because they are written as an encyclopedia style reference. Some problems included are: acre, bad breath, colds, heartburn, jet lag, rashes, and warts. This part also includes illustrations of things such as massage and acupressure so that it is easy to lacate the areas yourself.
Part III: This part lists various resources in case the reader is interested in looking up more information or some organizations that deal with natural healing.
I would recomend this book for anyone who doesn't know much about natural healing but likes to try and heal themselves before seeing a medical doctor.
Pretty GoodReview Date: 2007-04-15
Many of the books I've been reading, this book included, have the same format. It begins by describing some common types of natural medicine (16 in this book). Then it lists common health problems (160 in this book) and the remedies from selected types of natural medicine.
Some of the remedies in this book were unique. So, I may buy it or check it out again if I need to refer to it later.

A real chance for renewal for though onesReview Date: 2008-06-14
I agree with other who state that it has to be strictly followed and that it is for strong people only. Therefore I had not encountered many people whom I could recommend the Breuss procedure. Too often people do not want to take a full responsibility for their life and health. It is more comfortable to lean to classic medicine and feel like a victim. And following through Breuss is exactly that: it requires a strong effort and will power.
I had used the ready made juice.
Some tips:
I had problems in the beginning with hypotension. I then took supplements of coenzyme Q and it helped dramatically.
Enemas are a must.
Take your time for it.
Do not be expected when a sort of psychological cleaning occurs. You will have odd thoughts, ruminate things etc.
To conclude: I am MS surgeon but if I were challenged with one of these illneses the first thing I would do is a 42 days Breuss, to give my body a chance to do it itself. Good luck to all that plan to do it. I recomment it.

I tested it on 5 patients, and prefer Gerson TherapyReview Date: 2008-06-12
I then tried the treatment myself for 21 days. I lost so much muscle which made me worry. That is why I did not continue for the full 42 days. I lost about ½ kg per day. That was welcome. It helped me stick to a vegetarian diet after that. A problem in this book is that this particular printing does not mention that you can drink water. Some of the patients that tried this diet dried out. There is another print of the Bruess Cancer Cure from Australia with Hilde Hemmes which does say one needs to drink a specific amount of water each day. It was easy to follow the program. I really did want to eat other food, but I was not hungry for it. Dr. Breuss said the juice contained everything a person needed. I may believe that, just because a couple of sips of the juice were able to keep me satiated for a very long time. After a few sips 15 minutes apart I was able to stop drinking for the morning, or the afternoon.
The second patient followed this program for the full 42 days. He was a man with prostate cancer spread to the bones. He loved the program. He felt it was so suitable for him, and wished he could have stayed on it for longer. In other words he was not anxious to going back to food. His cancer may have improved while on the program. He loved all the weight he lost, and how much better he felt. After ending the Breuss treatment he did go to M. D. Anderson in Houston and his cancer was still there, though it had not increased, and appeared to have decreased slightly. He then went on the Gerson Therapy. In August he will have completed 6 months, and can have his body scanned again. He is doing very well, looks very healthy. He does not like all the enemas of the Gerson Therapy which make him feel like a stranger in his own home. Specifically he feels separated from the rest of the family. He was at the BNC in Mexico (Gerson Hospital) for 3 weeks.
The Third patient was a lady who "dried out" on the program. She also started to resent the juice, and could not continue to drink it. One of her tumors did disappear as I was told by her family. She did not complete the 42 days, and she did not survive either. This brings me to another problem with the Bruess treatment which is that there was no one to ask questions. The guy who invented it is dead. Hilde Hemmes in Australia appears to have adopted the program, and is able to answer some questions. She also sells the herbs, and juices for the program. I did continue to think the Breuss cure could work because of all the people I read about that claim to have been cured. This lady had cancer of the breast which had returned after the treatment with chemo. I think the Breuss Cancer cure can work for someone who just got cancer, and did not undergo chemotherapy, and is not too thin, and too ill. It may even work for others. This case; however, was not very encouraging. I think the Gerson Therapy would have been right for this patient, although everyone has a set time when they are to die, and we do our best while they are alive because we don't know that set time.
The Fourth patient was a young man again with cancer that returned after chemo. He was not the type that spoke much, and did not give me much feedback. I tried to include lots of water in his program after we found out that it was allowed on the program. I also tried to incorporate some enemas in the program. That is helpful. I think the Breuss Treatment weakened this person. Perhaps such a strong fast was not suited for his condition. There is no fast on the Gerson Therapy, and I think in this mans case it is would have been the best. I have tried to call him once, or twice; however, I did not get an answer. I don't know if he lived.
The Fifth also felt very well on the Breuss treatment. Right after coming off the program he had a feast which was not correct, it was too quick a return to regular food. Also, as mentioned earlier, 42 days is not long enough for the liver to renew, and I don't see how it can permanently keep cancer away. All the juices were made fresh for him from organic vegetables. We had even by then grown our own organic black radish in the Natureland farms in Kuwait. All but the very first patient used fresh organic juice, and followed the program to the T. I used to prepare the juice fresh daily using a NorWalk juicer (the best you may be able to buy), and delivered the juice with the teas daily to the patients. This patient went to Houston for a check-up, his tumors will still progressing at the time he went (He had not followed the Breuss treatment with any specific anti cancer diet, and did not go immediately to Houston). He was given medication which he did not take. The medication cost $3500 for 100 tablets. He took it for only three days so the doctor could see if his body would accept it. Then he told the doctor he did not want to start chemo until his family arrived to help him. Actually, he turned around and went to Mexico to follow the Gerson Therapy. He was being treated for free, and would have lost that treatment if he was going to follow the Gerson Therapy. That's why he tried the medication for three days. But then stopped it, did not take the chemo, and went to Mexico. His whole view changed there. Instead of a gloomy sick place that he hated at MD Anderson in Houston, he was very happy at the BNC where he was tended to with a very strict treatment that began immediately. After the three weeks were over he returned to MD Anderson, they checked his tumors again, and things were in control. The doctor was so pleased with his condition, and that the cancer had not progressed that he said okay you do the medication only, and no need for chemo, and we'll see you in six months. The doctor did not know that his medication was not even taken, and that the improvement came after the application of the Gerson Therapy not their medication.
So overall, and after much time studying and trying treatments for cancer. I highly recommend the Gerson Therapy, and not really the Breuss Cure. All patients who are still living have been started on the Gerson Therapy and are doing well. I have very quick improvement for weak patients with this treatment, and highly recommend it.
One 25 year old girl was given up on. She was about to die, not eating, drinking, and bedfast. She was told about the Gerson Therapy by the fifth patient above, and then immediately when there. When she arrived they did not think she would make it; however, she did respond to the treatment, started eating, drinking, and even walking again. On June 23 she arrives in Kuwait to continue her treatment at home for 1.5 years. Things look good for her now : )
So do the Gerson Therapy, it works. Everyone that works at their hospital is a medical doctor. They have 60 years experience in treating cancer. NEVER do chemo. I would like to know if this helps you decide what you want to do, and if it helps save your life. Please do send me an e-mail, and let me know.

Simple, intelligent and interesting nutritional approach to cancerReview Date: 2006-09-08
The first fast caused me to do a dramatic detoxification and drop about 30 lbs, but had little impact on my tumor sizes. (And, no, you should NOT do this fast strictly for weight loss. You'll surely mess up your metabolism.) The second time, when I made the juices fresh, I experienced dramatic decrease in my tumor sizes and total disappearance of metastases in my breasts. While it did not "cure" my cancer in and of itself, I think the Breuss fast did save my life and was probably the single best thing I did for my recovery. As of this year, I am, quite unbelievably, cancer-free.
That said, this is a terribly hard program to do alone. A few of the ingredients, like black radishes and Herb Robert (AKA Red Cranesbill) are hard to find, especially in organic form, and you must make sure everything is organically grown. It is also critically important to have the right type of juicer (a kind that cold-presses rather than blending with spinning blades), and to measure the ingredients accurately with a precise digital scale. You will probably need to allow at least a month to get everything together (very hard to commit to when everybody's telling you you are going to die if you don't act now.).
It was exhausting to peel, chop and juice all those damn root vegetables every single day (and, yes, it has to be done fresh at least every morning). You also can not take any medications or supplements while on the fast, -- no aspirin, no homeopathic stuff, nothing. Do not attempt this diet if you are not detail-oriented or can't follow very specific instructions to the letter. Sometimes I felt so weak from the effort, the pain, and from starving, that I just sat on the floor next to the juicer and cried.
Still, it was worth it.
I don't believe this program (or any program) can work for everyone. I wouldn't call it a cure, so much as a resetting of the stage, a way of giving your body a period of time to focus its energies solely on eradicating the cancer. I think, too, that it made a big difference that I'd already been following a strictly super-clean, vegan, macrobiotic diet for over a year when I tried it.
All in all, if you are interested in taking a nutritional approach to your cancer, I think the Breuss "Cancer Cure" is one of your very best bets. It is a far more gentle and elegant program than the well-known (and even more hard to do) Gerson system. And perhaps the greatest lesson in Breuss' approach is that sometimes gentleness, clarity and slowing down is better than the all-out hurried warfare approach we are encouraged to take with regard to cancer (and so many other scary things).
Good luck to everyone trying to make their way through a terminal cancer diagnosis. However you choose to do it, please know it can be done.
Successful if you follow it 101 percentReview Date: 2007-09-11
You also need extreme mental willpower to endure it for 42 days, but the shining thought should be that it is worth it to save your life.
My mother was diagnosed with terminal Ovarian cancer and she cleansed it from her system, completely healed from following this program to the letter.
The drug companies wants you to buy their expensive drugs to deal with cancer, they are a sickness industry (with the doctors being their salesmen) that thrive on profit, not a wellness industry. I recommend this program with all my heart.

I became convinced the author was "on to something" with essences when I discovered their helpfulness for animals (she has another book on using essences with pets that I read before this general handbook). Two of the essences made a huge difference in getting my furry little car-hating critter calmed down so he could go several thousand miles with none of his usual yowling.

The natural route to healthReview Date: 2003-10-13
Nutritional supplements are discussed next, with detailed information on the important vitamins, minerals, trace elements and the natural hormone DHEA. Phytonutrients are the most recently discovered helpers in the fight against disease and aging, and these are treated in chapter 4. They include flavonoids, carotenoids, phytosterols, sterols and indoles and are plant-derived substances with potent beneficial effects on the body.
Chapter 5 discusses the 30-day plan to optimize one's immunity. It also defines the enemy, i.e. foods to avoid. These include animal fats, hydrogenated plant fats, refined sugar and other refined foodstuffs that have been stripped of all their nutritious ingredients. The benefits of good fats like olive oil, fish oils and flaxseed oil are explained, plus other immune boosting plant substances, yogurt and green tea.
The power of the mind in disease and health is discussed in chapter 6, which includes information on the exciting new field of psycho-neuro-immunology, the use of affirmations, healthy breathing, visualization and simple relaxation techniques.
The following chapters are devoted to specific disease states like cancer, autoimmune illnesses, allergies, HIV, hepatitis, tuberculosis and chronic fatigue syndrome. In every case, information is provided on how to deal with these via detoxification, nutrition, exercise, visualization and stress relief.
The book concludes with lists of product manufacturers, resources, references and a thorough index. I highly recommend this work to people who wish to harness our natural allies in boosting their immune systems and fighting disease. Further information on the nutrients and phytochemicals discussed in this book can be found in Life Extension Magazine and James F. Balch's very detailed Prescription For Nutritional Healing.

I have been working directly with Health Quarters Ministries in Colorado Springs as well as local nutritionists and my health-promoting-chiropractor. I am more certain than ever: this is the way to go!! You're guaranteed better health!!
I now understand WHY organic foods are essential (pesticides on our fruits and vegetables react in the body like hormones, and breast cancer [as well as prostate and some others] is a hormone-receptor cancer. I UNDERSTAND the dangers we have allowed into our lives and I'm WILLING to exchange health for convenience --- our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made to fight [all] diseases if we give it the right tools (nutrition) to be healthy!
BEFORE YOU CONSIDER TRADITIONAL [failing] MEDICINE --- GIVE THIS PROGRAM A "COLLEGE TRY" --- YOU WON'T EVER BE SORRY YOU DID!!!!
I strongly believe "ALTERNATIVE" therapies should be employed FIRST --- not after Western Medicine has failed (and it will ... )!
There is no "MONEY" in natural cures --- that's why they are not promoted on TV or by the medical field. "Follow the Money" if you want to be disillusioned and disappointed by all that so-called modern medicine has to offer. (More often leading to an awful quality of life and ultimately a terrible death ... DON'T DO IT!)

My qualms with the book? What do you think of using a Pig's Foot Mask on your face? That's right, the book talks of boiling and cutting a pigs foot which, refrigerated, you're supposed to apply to your face over night!
Eating Bone Soup is also suggested in this book. Eating meat and/or killing animals just so I can look good just doesn't sound right.
Besides, boiled bones to fight wrinkles? Staying away from meat is best. Meat has fats and these days hormones and chemicals that are bad for the skin, let alone everything else in the body. Insted, eat fruits and vegetables (drink lots of water too) and make your skin look gorgeous.
