Take charge of your health!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2004-11-03
"No More Horse Estrogen" is an invaluable health guide for women and everyone else who seeks to be in charge of their health. I came across the book when I was 47 and experiencing erratic menstrual cycles supposedly due to perimenopause. After following the lifestyle guidelines (nutrition, use of specified supplements, etc.)that Mason recommends in his book, my cycles stabilized and ultimately I completed menopause at age 48 with absolutely no symptoms whatsoever - no night sweats, no mood swings, "no nothin." After confirming I had completed menopause, my physician asked if I wanted to go on hormone replacement therapy. I adamantly refused stating that I was doing absolutely fine. (I'll be 50 next month.) It's very reassuring to be able to take charge of one's health and avoid what the media and conventional Western wisdom tells women that most of them will have to endure in middle age. The only catch, fellow woman, is that you have to accept responsibility for taking the initiative and having the discipline to make the necessary lifestyle changes. None are complicated, but they do require a commitment, follow through. It's up to you - choose natural health! Read and apply Mason's guidelines starting now! You'll be so glad you did!

Get the Facts & Feel Better

After having read many other books on this subject by so-called experts, and STILL not feeling better, I decided to read this one. This no-nonsense book is easy to read and spells out the truth about hormones and hormone replacement as they relate to women. Additionally, Mr. Mason lays out a healthy plan that any woman can follow. I spent 5 years feeling bad, and after following this author's plan for a few months, I lost weight, gained energy and felt like ME again. Thank you, Roger.

"Prolonging Health flows very nicely gently introducing the uninformed reader to new terminology and ideas. This book has a tremendous amount to offer to both the lay and professional reader and is written in an entertaining fashion to compel the reader to continue on. I especially like the sprinkling of Dr. Williams' vast clinical experiences, travels, and relationships that both entertain and exhibit a vast appreciation and understanding of holistic medicine. Thank you Dr. Williams for your commitment to bring this life changing work to an eager audience."

This is one of the most comprehensive, detailed and thorough tomes on the subject of longevity. Part One deals with the aging process and how to determine one's aging status. It includes information on why, when and the way we age, plus details on the relevant laboratory tests.

Part Two is a practical manual that sets out the many ways in which we can enhance longevity. This includes information on how to prevent oxidative damage with anti-oxidants, DNA repair medications, detoxification and cleansing, resetting the insulin switch with diet and natural medicines, strengthening the heart, combating inflammation, restoring hormonal balance and revitalising the brain.

The book contains a wealth of practical advice and the latest information on nutritional supplements, herbs and natural hormones. It concludes with four appendices, a glossary, bibliography and index. Highly recommended for those who wish to take responsibility for their own health.

Dr. Williams' book brings hope and confidence to the reader looking for comprehensive information on health and aging. As I read through the chapters, I found a renewed understanding in my own health. Not only is Prolonging Health an amazing resource, it reads like a novel as he graciously interjects stories and the reasons behind the modifiable factors of longevity. Williams' writing style, both sincere and informational, reflects a simplicity in what are often medically complex issues. The art of writing is a special skill. He has mastered it eloquently. This is an extremely well-organized book that has a tremendous amount of heart and substance. It has become one of my all-time favorites.

Ms. Seyburn's book helped me understand why it is so important to have healthy habits when raising your child. My little boy Jon had many alergies and I was all confused by the complex directions of my traditional doctors, They wanted to put him on alergy shots, etc. Ms. Seyburn's book helped me determine that my child was a Kapha body type and if I would eliminate all dairy and then try stimulating his diet through herbs and vegetsbles eventually his alergies would diminish. He never wanted to play sports or run with the other kids but once I read that that exercise would stimulate his metabulism. So, I insisted he pick a sport to play. He chose scoccer. He feels great when he exercises and he has lost weight and is more balanced than ever. I want to thank Ms. Seyburn for her wise yet simple advise. Thanks again!

Soy Smart Health: for women & men

Hi,

This is an interesting book.

However they should have spent a bit more time editing the text... as there are plenty of opportunities for laying it out better or expressing ideas more clearly (expected more from a bunch of PH.D's): They tend to repeat themselves a lot in rapid succession.

The book explains the different effects of phyto-estrogens & estrogens very well but they miss the opportunity to tie this in with xeno-estrogens neatly.

This information is very relevant to women with breast cancer who want to know whether or not Soy phyto-estrogens will make things better or worst. It also relevant to women with Estrogen Dominance Syndrome that might be suffering from Endometriosis: You gain a whole new respect and understanding for the balancing role of progesterone.

It even has a few negative things to say about Soy oil (Omega 6 oils).

The book is not just for women... although the author certainly gives this impression.

To balance it up a bit they could have added a section on men... as men too can have high estrogen levels (from xenoestrogens).

However the devil is in the detail with most things... soy as well... and it seems like there's still a bit more they need to explain... and which remains unexplained in this book.

You may not be convinced but you will be better informed by the end of this book.

:-)

The best soy book I've seen.

Soy Smart Health is the best book on soy I've seen so far. Solomon et al have explored areas of soy health benefits I haven't ever considered. Their research is complete and current, with citations as recent as March 2000. This book is definitely one of the best purchases I've made this year. All of my friends have one now.

Greatest Food and Health Book

Review Date: 2007-07-04
I have always considered myself a healthy eater but until I read "What to Eat for What Ails You" by Ms. Yu, I did not realize that what I was eating was not always healthy depending on my condition/illness. This book has changed my eating habits and I feel heatlhier and happier -- more energy. I am constantly referring to its pages for guidance in what to eat to help me overcome/feel better. What I especially like about the book is that it not only tells you what to eat for a particular ailment but defines what the ailment is and what the symptons are. Ms Yu does so in "layman's" terms so even myself, a self admitted non-medical person, fully understands without referring to a medical dictionary. I also like the tidbits on what to avoid eating for a particular ailment -- just as important as what to eat. Her strategies on staying healthy are very enlightening and well worth following. Overall, I find this one of the best resource books I or anyone could own. I highly recommend it to everyone of all ages and lifestyles.

Yu's book is wonderfully helpful, user-friendly, well-organized, clear & concise. The book presents the reader with almost 100 medical conditions and provides information on what the ailment looks like, what to eat, what not to eat, and strategies for staying healthy. For me, the most exciting aspect of the book is that I can use it in tandum with B.K.S. Iyengar's book, Yoga: The Path to Holistic Health, which gives me poses (asanas) to do for a particular medical condition/problem to relieve/remedy a problem. Yu hit the nail on the head with this book and is to be complemented. Simply put, this book is easy to use, easy to understand and easy to implement...the kind of book that I will reference often!

Finally! A guide to eating that really helps you feel better!

I've read a number of nutrition, health and wellness books, but this one is a top-notch publication for a number of reasons. For one, it's well-organized and easy to follow. Numerous conditions and ailments are listed, followed by recommendations on what you can do to improve it. Yu solicits input from respected professionals, not the fly-by-night infomercial "experts" that you see on TV.

What I found especially encouraging is that the improvements the author recommends are not hard to implement. I realized as I read this that sometimes just minor adjustments to my diet, like adding a little less salt, reducing my portion sizes, or substituting fruit for a snack in place of junk food can lead to tremendous improvements in how I feel and my overall energy levels! I've only just begun to make some of these changes, and I already feel like I have more energy than I've had in years!

Yu deserves a lot of credit for presenting sound information and educating the reader, and most importantly putting within our grasp the changes that can lead to significant health and wellness improvements. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel and live better!

Fibromyalgia, candida protocols

Review Date: 2008-04-08
I'm 60 and have had fibromyalgia symptoms since I was 4. It has gotten worse as I've gotten older and I've tried many things throughout the years. Dr. Wong's protocol is simple and is, for once, right on the money as far as treating a primary cause of the condition: lack of enzyme production that causes fibrin (the stuff scar tissue is made of) to build up in the muscles themselves and in the capillaries that feed the muscles, choking the muscles off from oxygen. I've already been diagnosed with excess fibrin in my blood, so I know it's real. I just never quite understood its relationship to fibromyalgia until I read Dr. Wong's book. Ditto for his candida protocol; it's relatively cheap and easy to follow, and it works like nothing else has over the past 15 years. The book is easy to read all the protocols seem fairly easy to follow.

And its fascinating to understand how this all works, as he has done extensive and leading-edge research into health and how to achieve and maintain it, and generously shares it with the layperson. Great book for everyone's home library.
