Leelo, sonrie, y busca "My life with Spirits" o "The chicken Kabbalah".

Welcome to the magical mind of Lon Milo DuQuette. He is at once brilliant, profound, folksy, irreverent, terrifying, funny, erudite and blasphemous. From the Emerald Tablet of Hermes to the Egyptian Book of the Dead - from the Holy Qabalah to why Demons Are Our Friends - this little book is a crash course in the Western spiritual traditions, and includes a full-color fold-out chart that will delight anyone even remotely interested in the Hebrew Qabalah. I read the entire chapter on Hypatia of Alexandria aloud to my wife and daughter.

This collection by theologian and author Molly Wolf, taps even deeper into the mystery of human suffering and pain than her previous books. In these beautifully-written essays, Wolf discusses tragedy, post-traumatic disorder, jealousy, and other issues that rip the human spirit. Wolf doesn't spare herself or her readers - at times the imagery is very, very powerful and quite graphic. This is a searingly honest, deeply personal and redemptive book that establishes Wolf as a new and important voice in Christian theology.

Slaying the Dragon

Review Date: 2001-11-27
The title brings to mind the statue (Michelangelo?)of The Archangel slaying the Dragon. The book chronicles some of the author's struggles with slaying the dragon of an abusive marriage and living with subsequent PTSD. As one of the editorial reviewers says, the emotional power is so strong that the book should be read in small bites; I read it in small pieces lest I read the whole thing in one sitting and be left hungry, to wait for her next book. In short, the book is excellent; and it shows that Wolf is a major writer of every-day spirituality, both in her weekly "Sabbath Blessing" and now on this new plane. I think she is a product of, and a strong voice for, the quiet spiritual revival which I see taking place in major denominations - a revival which is going beyond institutional preoccupations and leading to a strong personal and community "sense of God." A Christian {or anyone else} who wants to lead a spiritual life in the here-and-now, the dirt-and-the-dust should be reading this and all of Molly Wolf's books.

Those of us with the good fortune to have discovered Wolf's weekly vignettes for the Internet, tying together real life as we know it and spiritual belief, will find her new book different. Different as in, not better or worse, but with a different flavor. In fact, Wolf continues to weave a verbal web, combining elegant metaphor with prosaic observation, all the while illuminating everyday issues of faith. Angels and Dragons is a different beast; not a vignetter, but an attempt through a collection of pieces which oscillate around a theme - that of injury, sorrow and healing. The attempt is more than a success. While the tone of the book differs from Wolf's previous, her ability to weave her own experiences along with others, both biblical and real, retains the central characteristic of clear, evocative writing we have become used to. This is not so much a "take a little bite book", but the fuller menu is even more satisfying.

The more I read Swami Rama the more I have to recognize the power of simplicity and its richness. I am one of those who like to intellectualize a bit, but when I get confused enough all there is to do is go back to this very simple book. This book does not requiered any esoteric knowledge of yoga but just openess and sincerity from the reader. If you haven't read it, I almost envy you for the sweet pleasure waiting for you. Once you will have tasted Swami Rama's teachings I suggest you visit www.swamij.com , a treasure chest of informations and guidance by one of (if not the) closest disciple of Swami Rama.

I can't overstate how transformational this CD set has been for me. It has helped me become much stronger, profoundly inspired, deeply grounded, and a bit devious : ) Having listened to about 10 Hayhouse CD sets, I consider this one the most essential. Sonya gives a detailed review of the heavenly cast: from light-beings to angels to water spirits, all the while encouraging us to ask for help and to know we are always guided. I'm particularly grateful for her information on earth-bound spirits, a topic I had always worried about because it seemed so powerful and mysterious. She gives an easy solution. I am empowered and profoundly grateful!

I have had a copy of this book for years and I love it so much! It is a short daily devotion that tells you about a name of Jesus and has a Bible verse that goes along with the name for that day. It's short but means a lot. I bought some more copies to give to some of my closest friends - that's how good it is and how much I love this book.

Sarah Hornsby is a spirit filled Christian author. I have prayed through and own every book she has written. However my favorite is "At the Name of Jesus". Since it was published in 1983, I have given this book to over twenty friends. Starting with a title of Jesus from Scripture, Ms. Hornsby's 365 meditations explore the attributes of Jesus from Jesus is the Alpha to Jehovah Jesus is the Savior-Messiah. This book has lead me to an ever deeper and more personal relationship with Jesus. Chosen Books should bring out a new edition. This book is too precious to remain unavailable.

Little book, good food.

Review Date: 2008-02-22
Though both have value, which is the greater part in the eyes of God? The body or the soul? We feed our bodies at least an hour or more every day, but what do we do to feed our souls? I read at least an hour or more every day from the Bible and a half dozen other spiritual writings. While this book pales in comparison to other books I'm reading, for its genre--meditative quotes for each day of the year--it's the best in my opinion. The insightful quotes are concise and deep, and makes you think. It's perfect for people who make little time during the day to feed their souls--and in a case like that, any food to a starving soul is good food. And in my opinion this is the best "fast food for the soul" I've personally come across. And as St. Augustine is one of the saints whom most Christian denominations respect, I've given this as a gift to many of my Protestant friends. Everyone I've given this too has enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book. In my opinion it's good food even for those who read a lot and even to those who read little, and is a good tool for evangelization.

Even though we often overlook the fact, Augustine is full of common-sense, every day spiritual instruction. That's what makes this book so valuable in the end. Every daily meditation contains a selection from Augustine, followed by a prayer.

This compact book is bound in brown faux leather, containing one purple ribbon for keeping place. The printing is attractive, with standard Catholic Book Publishing fonts. The cover is relatively plain save the title and a decorative cross. It's a rather attractive book, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to spend a minute or two daily with St. Augustine.

A Broad and Practical Book of Spiritual Reflection
Helpful Votes: 12 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2001-12-27
Father Benedict Groeschel has once again put us in his debt with a fine book of meditations designed principally for use during Advent and the Christmas season but actually helpful for anytime as we await the coming of the Lord. The most salient feature of this book is its capacity to relate the reader to the very practical aspects of the Christian life by the use of examples and words from people who have experienced and articulated many sides of life. This is the kind of book you can carry with you and read frequently and profitably.

Benedict Groeschel is writing for all Christians

This is my first work by Benedict Groeschel that I've read. I am already ordering others. His style should appeal to all Christians regardless of affiliation. He is very down to earth in his writings and teachings. I find him very approachable and can apply his thoughts to my every day life. He never appears to be too intellectual. Excellent work for Advent devotions. Highly recommended.

Daily Meditations From Advent to Epiphany

This small book has profound implications for the life of the Christian seeker.

The book is divided into two sections:
- daily meditations from Advent to Epiphany
- Hymns, Prayers, and Spiritual Readings

While the book is written by a Catholic, it is equally valuable for Christians of all denominations. The reflections are pertinent to the daily life of the follower of Christ. It is an important and meaningful resource for following in the steps of John the Baptist to the stable in Bethlehem.

Love to Mother was an action, not an emotion. Twice I was with Mother Teresa in Calcutta, India. Twice I was in the presence of greatness.

She once took my hands in hers and said to me, "Love is giving, so go love. Don't use words where your hands can speak better." Mother was love. Her two gnarled hands stretched out to bring selfless, pure love to the orphan, the dying, the despised. At the entrance to the leprosarium there is a notice which reads: "Where there is great love, there are always great miracles."

This small, 116-page booklet cannot capture the immensity of Mother's love for all humanity, but it can give you a sampling of her spirit. The 35 black-and-white photos of Mother Teresa along with her words of wisdom make this an excellent gift or just a book to put in your pocket and read daily, while commuting, waiting in a line, or somewhere in our love-starved world. Highly recommend.

There is a profundity to Mother Teresa's deceptively simple theology that surpasses the understanding. Rooted in her own experiences, it spreads cheer and peace in a way entirely unlike more "happy" or "optimistic" religious affirmations of faith.

"The Book of Secrets" has five volumes, and all the five volumes are based on the discourses on Vigyana Bahirava Tantra given by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh between May and July 1973 in Bombay, India. These are great gifts to humankind by the late Rajneesh who delighted in controversies. I value them better than a truckload of the finest diamonds you can find on earth. I am deeply grateful to Claude, the custodian at the First Baptist Family Life Center where I usually do my meditative work-out on the Elliptic Cross-Trainer. I have been prejudiced against Rajneesh because of the bad publicity surrounding him as the "Sex Guru", "Rolls Royce Guru" etc. I was impressed by Claude by his Zen like attitude towards any work he did, and he suggested Rjaneesh's books knowing that I was born in India, and thatI lived there for about thirty years before coming permanently to the United States.

The basic principle of Tantra is acceptance of yourself and any sitiuation you get into. You lose your ability to transform yourself if you show resitance. Tantra teaches you to enjoy your existence at every moments. These prinicples are lucidly explained by Rajneesh. For being enlightened, for being in bliss all the time, you need not renounce anything. Rajneesh exhorts you to throw away any feelings of guilt you might have accumulated from your cultural conditioning and say "yes" to life joyfully and with gusto. What a joy!
Love and best wishes.
