The best guide on magnet therapy available

I have perused many books about magnet therapy and found this one to be the best. Unlike other books on the market covering this topic, "Healing Magnets" explains the complicated science behind magnetic healing clearly and concisely. I appreciated the comprehensive documentation and practical applications for a therapy that has worked for me but remained a mystery as to why until I read this book. I encourage anyone who is using magnets now or is wondering if they should for health reasons, to get this book and use it.

My patients often ask me questions about magnet therapy. This book answered all my questions and then some. I recommend it both to my patients and colleagues who want a clear explanation and well-documented resource.

Excellent resource for anyone considering magnet therapy

Sherry Kahn has written a very readable, thorough and informative book on a complex subject. As a fellow medical writer who has authored a book on the perils of electromagnetic pollution and our ever-increasing ambient radiofrequency exposures, I often get questions from people who are confused about how magnets can be used therapeutically if EMFs are supposed to be dangerous. Ms. Kahn sorts through these, and many other questions well, giving the reader a comprehensive understanding. Although caution is warranted with very strong magnetic fields (such as those used in MRI diagnostics), the human anatomy has been found to be fantastically responsive to low-level steady-state magnetic fields. The problems arise in energy fields with the introduction of artificial characteristics not found in nature -- alternating current, digital pulsing, unusual wave forms, and exposure strengths unlike anything we've encountered before in our evolutionary history. We -- and all other species -- have evolved within the protective cradle of the earth's own steady-state magnetic fields. How arrogant to assume it wouldn't be an important factor in our well-being, or that abnormal inbalance wouldn't adversely impact our health. Although energy medicine is considered ancient knowledge in eastern cultures, it is only now coming to the foreground in western medine. But energetic healing modalities can be quite powerful. People should not use strong magnets willy-nilly or without guidance. That's where Ms. Kahn's book comes in. No one considering magnets should be without it. For a slim volume, it packs a lot of punch.

If you're going to buy one book on magnetic therapy, this is the one. It is very clear and makes the science easy to understand. It is also very well organized so that you can find out what is known about the use of magnets for various conditions. I found the buying and treatment guidelines particularly useful.

Everything I wanted to know and more.

If you want to quickly get your arms around magnet therapy, read this book. Having first used magnets a few years back, I knew they worked - but I didn't know how or why. There was very little accessible information on the topic then, and I ended giving up on understanding why I was having such great results. This book does a fantastic job of explaining the hows and whys in language I can easily understand. So many people say there's not much evidence that magnet therapy works. Maybe not yet in the US, but this book summarizes studies from around that world that prove that it helps a far wider range of conditions than I ever imagined.

It's comprehensive, well-researched and easy to understand. Two thumbs up!

very useful overview

In this small book Dr. Ferru gives a short overview of the essentials of living the right way. Perfect health depends on drinking water, taking the right fats, the right food combinations with the right nutrition, the right environment (feng shui and no electromagnetic fields) and a lot more. Things you will often neglect or forget (colors, breathing the right way etc..). Dr. Ferru has brought all possible subjects just into this little book to remind you what to do to live the right way. Just a pitty that he has kept most chapters so very short (with the big print the book is most readable and understandable for the layman, but I was hungry for more).

A must-read...

In this era of overinformation we are bombarded with too many health books. Dr. Ferru's book "The Right Way of Living" makes a difference because it synthesizes the wisdom and science of different cultures covering all aspects of health: spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and environmental. For the above reasons, I strongly recommend his book.

Dr. Ferru's book is a holistic approach to living a good life. The Right Way of Living is a simple guide to improve your life by understanding the right way to eat, the right environment, the right exercises and finally the right frame of mind. I found the book to be an easily understood, step-by-step approach to improving your physical and mental health. I had the privedge to hear Dr. Ferru speak and was attracted to this "how to" approach to living each day. The book is easily understood and can be a checklist for your daily routine.

In "Magnetic Miracles" Catie Norris shares a candid, up close and personal story of her and her family's trials and tribulations after she was bitten by a tick and eventually diagnosed with the life threatening lymes disease.

You are led on a journey of sickness, confusion, family turmoil and guilt, to finally an end of clarity and hope that offered much relief and a life worth living. Now we all have this powerful information to heal ourselves, thanks to one woman's persistence and gathering of research data but most of all thanks to a love she had for a little boy that was brought into the world with a diagnoses the same as his mothers, lymes disease. This is Catie's story.

In Magnetic Miracles Catie takes us through the stages of her turbulence with this disease to an alternative method that WORKS! Not only does this work for one person or one disease but for a plethora of ailments that can be helped by this inexpensive, noninvasive therapy. She has made this an easy read for lay people of all types so that it is understandable while still maintaining the necessary technical jargon needed to fully enlighten and reveal how magnets and magnetic fields work.

I mostly appreciate the "A to Z" guide that is a quick and easy reference for many ills. I will keep this book for future reference as well as recommend it to my friends and family.

Mrs. Norris is not only educated on the subject matter mentally but has a spiritual side of herself that she gives to this book which gives it's content soul. Thanks Catie.

Fred Rinker has succeeded in presenting all pertinent elements of magnetic therapy, the theory and the factual benefits gained from the use of magnets in a concise and very readable book. His writing style, summarizing the essential information of present day knowledge about magnetics, is easily understood by the layman and is equally acceptable to the professional.

This book encapsules the physics of magnets, how they affect changes in the body, a complete examination of health problems that may be benefited by the use of magnets and how to apply them.

The Invisible Force should be in the library of everyone interested in improving their health naturally. It's a "must have" book to be used as prime reference for beginners as well as advanced practitioners of magnetic therapy.

I am an RN and enjoyed Magnets for Health: A Practical Guide because it is comprehensible reading telling what everyone wants to know about magnets. How and why they work and the impact they have on health & wellness. The book gives the history of magnets as far back as 400 B.C., the application of magnets in the health field today, the effects of magnets on our bodies, and recommended applications. As a health care professional, I feel obligated to share this information with everyone. It is a wonderful way to make a difference for others.

Understanding Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-30
I read this book in an attempt to understand transcranial magnetic stimulation. Finally, I get it! Magnetic stimulation exerts changes in the brain by inducing an electrical current. It's not the magnetic force per se, but the changing magnetic force which induces an electrical current. Or as George and Belmarker call it "electrodeless" electrical stimulation. This book has finally helped me understand how repetitive magnetic stimulation can have such profound effects on the brain.

George and Belmaker also provide a nice review of the current research on TMS interventions including pain, depression, mania, anxiety and schizophrenia. I would have liked more color illustrations but that probably would have increased the price of the book.

My favorite chapter was the final chapter: Epilogue for the Clinician. As a practicing psychiatrist, I liked the "big picture" assessment of TMS and it's relative place as a potential treatment. This book will serve as a great analysis of the current state of TMS. I hope the FDA will endorse this treatment intervention soon.

Good start into the study of hypnotism
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-20
This is a great book for lay people who find themselves interested in hypnotism. It covers basic history and theory, and gives practical advice on how to hypnotize people for entertainment. Many of the exercises are amusing and do actually work when tried. The latter part of the book does make some seemingly outrageous claims regarding the healing power of hypnotism without any real evidence, and the last chapter has significant typographical and grammar errors, but overall if you are looking for an intro into hypnotism, this is a good place to start.

Not for the serious student

Review Date: 2007-07-11
This book is principally aimed at the showman (or showwoman), not at the serious hypnotist. The extremely directive and controlling techniques for induction are not only outdated, they are improper if working in a therapeutic setting. They are, above all, not aimed at developing trust between the hypnotist and the client. On the other hand, if you simply want to do parlor tricks or night-club shows, then this is your book.

Review Date: 2004-09-19
I'm giving this book 2 stars as opposed to the 5 stars nearly everyone else did. I bought this book expecting it to be great, but was chagrined to discover it was not that informative. In fact, it was down right mediocre. Maybe it would be a half-way decent book for beginners, but in my opionion--there are much better books out there... The person who said this book is of "dubious scientific validity" hit it right on the spot. The book is chalk full of outdated concepts and psuedo-scientifical concepts about how hypnosis works. Animal magnetism? While I am nothing even resembling a hardcore skeptic of paranormal, I have to say the complete lack of evidence, even anecdotal, really hurts this book's validity. Maybe there is some "force" involved with hypnotism, but you couldn't tell from this book, seeing as they just go ahead and assume there is one based on their pre-existing conceptual paradigms, disregarding any use of the scientific method. Aside from that, I saw MANY spelling errors which really detract from the professionalism of this book. On the plus side, it has many techniques to use(regardless of how misguided their explanations of how they work are). Overall, the book left me wondering: where's the meat?

Some basic overview of hypnosis

This book provides a very brief overview of different methods and applicatications from stage hypnosis, mesmerism, few methods of inducing self-hypnosis, suggestions for using hypnosis for healing certain ailments.

Most suggestions (pattern scripts) in this book are based on the fomula "when I count to three, you'll do so and so", or "when you awaken, you'll do so and so" and that's it.

Part of this book deals with Mesmeric (magnetic) healing, a topic that is not that often mentioned in modern hypnosis books (except books by Ormond McGill), but is more thoroughly covered in books dealing with energy healing.

If you already have Ormond McGill's Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnosis, then you'll find that a good deal of material mentioned in this book has already been covered there.

As for learning how to induce hypnosis over the phone or through the mail, get books that deal with hypnotic language patterns, sleight of mouth, and learn some indirect suggestions - Ericksonian hypnosis.

I was a skeptic until I bought this book and learned about natural magnetism and how magnetic forces actually aid healing. George Washnis did a great job in gathering facts from an impressive array of scientific sources.

Armed with this information,, my friends and I tried magnetic therapy with great success. I now am sharing my good fortune with others.

A good over-view of the use of magnets

This book is written in lay terms but gives a good over-view of the use of magnets for help with the multitude of problems we all face. It does not offer true objective studies, although many have been done. For those looking for help to complement more traditional Western therapies, this book gives an overview, but few specifics.

Magnetic healing therapy has been my way of life for 10 years. I always recommend this book to those interested in using magnets for healing. The author keeps it simple and directs the reader by showing where the acupressure points and magnet points are to treat the body for a specific problem. The author also gives a basic overview of the history but does not weight the reader down with scientific data that can be researched elsewhere.

Theres no way to learn everything about the Central Nervous System in an easier way than with this book. Its even got a separate Clinical section for every chapter!! I really enjoyed reading this book, along with Adam's Neurology(another great one).

The only con is that its got a couple of mistakes(maybe not serious) for example when you get to the part describing the Direct and Indirect Talamus-Striatal Pathways and a couple more.

Very good reference, slightly poorer textbook

Review Date: 2001-09-16
I am not a bioscience or medical type, so this text is rather out of my field. However, with that said, I have an interest in nervous system functioning and have found _Functional Neuroanatomy_ a very useful reference. It is slightly poorer as a textbook as it suffers from insufficient internal cross referencing (some exists, and a physiology book would no doubt have more). The index is reasonably complete in this regard, but relying on it can be awkward, particularly when it comes to looking up structures which have different names in different texts.

useful, interesting, educational, excellent reference
Helpful Votes: 34 out of 34 total.
Review Date: 1998-06-29
I bought this book because it was dual-purpose. One, it has understandable text describing neurophysiological pathways. Two, it has a text which had cross sections of the CNS in magnetic resonance and cadaver sections. In addition, to many easy-to-follow, educational diagrams, it has brief one-line summaries of the breadth on each page. It is an excellent choice for a neurological reference text for a library.

If you're looking for a book on magnets for healing DON'T BUY THIS BOOK. The title is misleading. It is basically about Touch Therapy which is a valid healing art but the title leads one to believe it's about magnets and magnetic healing. The only reference to magnetic healing is "don't do it."
