As a Practitioner I have been looking for a new perspective in Anger management and I have found it in this book. The book was delivered when promised. I had the great pleasure and experience of having Dr. Raymond Chip Tafrate as my professor at CCSU for the course 'Controlling Anger and Aggression.' This dynamic course was complemented perfectly by this book. Whether you are a student, therapist, or individual who is interested in controlling anger, this book is for you. There are worksheets, handouts, and personal logs to track and control anger and aggression.

To sum up, this is THE book on anger and aggression, unparalleled by any others.

Anger Management: The Complete Treatment Guidebook for Practitioners proved to be an excellent resource for teaching veterans anger management skills. The authors'Anger Episode Model clearly explains that anger does not "come out of the blue" but follows a clear sequence of cognitive appraisal, experience, and emotional expression. The inclusion of both short-term and long-term outcomes of anger expression highlight the notion that anger has long-term consequences on physical and emotional health as well as obvious short-term consequences. The sections on Fostering Cognitive Change and Forgiveness make this book unique and particularly helpful with this population. The inability to forgive self or others and an inflexible view of the world, if not addressed as part of an anger management model, can be a major obstacle in learning and applying anger management skills.

Collaboratively written by Howard Kassinove (Chairperson of the Psychology Department at Hofstra University) and Raymond Chip Tafrate (Associate Professor in the Criminology and Criminal Justice Department at Central Connecticut State University), Anger Management: The Complete Treatment Guidebook For Practitioners is a straightforward and thoroughly practical guide designed to substantially assist professional psychologists and caseworkers of all fields to help their patients and clients deal with a condition of unhealthy, counter-productive anger. Individual chapters address a model and plan to help people increase their awareness of anger and change their responses, and to police themselves to in order to maintain an emotionally healthier way of life. Anger Management is highly recommended reading for anyone charged with a professional responsibility to deal with and assist angry clients whether the setting is in private practice, an outpatient clinic, a hospital setting, or within the criminal justice system.

Anger Management by Howard Kassinove and Raymond Tafrate is by far the most complete and up to date text for therapists. It is a must read resource for all environments, children, adults and families, as well as the workplace. The authors break down anger episodes into understandable segments in order to assess the client's anger intensity and frequency.

Then they rebuild with techniques that include life skills, problem solving snd step by step ways to change thinking. Among the communication skills the motivated client will learn is how to give and receive criticism without becoming defensive. There is also emphasis on non-verbal communication, including body language and direct eye contact.

The model presented for problem solving skills is very important, because it encourages the client to seek alternative solutions, thus reducing anger and frustration.

Ultimately, Kassinove and Tafrate examine forgiveness as part of anger management. By forgiving, eith within or outside of a religious conviction, a person gains the ability to move on. Anger Management is a MUST have for every practitioner's bookshelf--only after a thorough reading!

This terrific book covers ground I haven't seen elsewhere in the consulting field, including: umbrella brands, brand equity, establishing your name as the brand, tying-in products, using the media, and a great deal more. There is one reviewer who has posted the identical, negative review in all of Dr. Weiss's books: they are "repeats" of his classic "Million Dollar Consulting." There is no way this lengthy explanation of branding receives more than cursory mention in "Million Dollar Consulting," as good as that book may be. I doubt the negative review is based on actual reading of the book. For consultants who are rushing from "fire to fire," this is a great resource to slow us down and tackle the longer-term marketing which will result in business pursuing us rather than the other way around. There is nothing revolutionary here, just solid, pragmatic advice to use tomorrow.

More fantastic consulting practice advice from Alan Weiss.

Eight months into building my leadership influence consulting practice, Mr Weiss has given me the gift of branding. He has shown me how to build the "gravity" to draw prospects to me, how to get more specific about the value I offer to clients, and what actions I need to take now to build the brand that will build my business.

I have seen some of these elements before, but this book wraps it all up in a neat template for action, and it has got me moving. I keep this book on my desk, not my shelf.

Not just for the individual but also for the person in firm. I have applied Alan's ideas in selling professional services and differentiating my "products" from in-house work and competitors. The book is packed full of ideas. Implement two and it may take awhile to see the results - but it comes. As the other editorials write - it's not about cold calling - it's about the client(s) coming to you. Sound impossible. Read the book, it will be the best investment you ever make!! And I do mean investment - it'd take you take years to think of some of these ideas - if ever.

I personally own just about every book Alan Weiss has written. He is not only a consultant's consultant, but he is also a gifted writer as well.

This book establishes a strong case for branding very early. It then goes on to show you several techniques for creating your brand.Some of these include isolating patterns from your previous successes, writing books, speaking, creating marketable products to reinforce the brand etc.

The pay off of successful branding is that it creates an attraction that draws business your way, helps with client retention in the face of competition, and provides you with a guidance system for your practice.

I have found this work an excellent introduction to emergency medicine, and should be first reading for any new student interested in Emergency Medicine. Dr. Madhaddevan and Dr. Garmel should be applauded for this work. Strong work Gus and Maha.

As a fourth year med student interested in EM, this is a great text. You can't finish it over one rotation at over 700 pages. But if you're taking 2-3 rotations with externships, this is a great text plod through.

I'm only about halfway through, but I like to read a chapter and then review the material in Secrets or Pocket Emergency Medicine, sometimes adding to the latter (in VERY small print) from the great material in this book.

This book is concise enough to actually be readable. It is, in my opinion better than Tintanelli because it is more straight forward and you don't need to have 2 Vol. with you at all times. Overall a great buy.

This book is great and I love the pictures. I am studying for my 10-year recertification and have looked at quite a few of the other books out there, and this book wins, hands-down. The chapters are well-written and the illustrations are great.

This book is AWESOME. I am a Stanford medical student and found this book to be THE MOST VALUABLE BOOK I HAVE BOUGHT! Why? Several reasons! First, this book is organized differently. Normally, books are organized by system (renal, cardio, pulmonary) and later offer disease descriptions. This book offers a more realistic approach as each chapter explores a symptom and offers multiple diagnosis (this is so valuable or as we say in med school - MONEY!!!) Secondly, this book has end-of-chapter tables with differential diagnoses to help you recall. So if you're seeing a patient with back pain - look at the chart: cauda equine syndrome, back pain, AAA and what test to specifically to distinguish amongst them). Lastly, the book has amazing pictures, is easy to read, colorful, and not at all boring. Trust me: this is a book you will want to read from cover to cover!

Appreciative Leader In the Eye of the Beholder

In this very readable book the editors present the theory and practice of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) for the practitioner to immediately use. The fruitfulness and promise of AI come to life in the unfolding stories from a wide range of organizational fields. The stories each had various aspects that resonate for me in how to lead from the positive frame. For me, the Appreciative Leader creates clarity of theory, principles, and concepts while strongly anchoring and grounding them in the real life work of leading and following from the positive and strengths-based approach. The success and flow of AI as a way of life and leading and doing jump out at you even when the stories get you in the trenches and even into the day-to-day minutiae of work and the hard stuff that drags you down and can move you to that negative place. In reading and re-reading the book, I find myself saying "Oh, I've seen someone do that" or "I do that" which connects the reader to the theory and principles written about in the Appreciative Leader.

The sections on the AI Principles provide one of the strongest explanations of what the Principles are, how they work, and how they relate to the research. The editors' thorough descriptions and explanations of the principles establish a foundation for making them more meaningful. The AI Principles are much clearer to me through reading this section.
The Appreciative Leader is a must have book for your AI library! This book sets the big picture of leading through appreciative inquiry. As a high school principal this book set me on my journey of intentional appreciative leadership and an affirmation of my leadership strengths. I just wish that I had discovered it earlier in my career and met sooner the colleagues who are also on the same journey.

It was inspiring to read the compiled interviews of appreciative leaders. The stories which emerge portray not lofty idols on a pedestal but quite the opposite. The leaders are remarkably human and the kind of people you would like to engage in a conversation. Their authenticity provides a resource for those who wish to develop strengths and abilities as a leader. The editors expand on the interviews by including additional data and developing a Model of Appreciative Leadership which captures characteristics of appreciative leaders.

A fresh concise readily readable book on the management paradigm of appreciative leadership. A thorough discussion of this management model with a visual construct on page 159, a chapter linking theory and practice, and inspiring interviews with both renown and unsung appreciative leaders from a variety of organizational arenas. Use it to inspire , to train, to teach ,to motivate managers,staff, studentsand others. This book has both wisdom and vision for the future, edited by women of wisdom and vision, themselves appreciative leaders .,

I have to admit that the appreciative inquiry movement is new to me. "Appreciative Leaders: In the Eye of the Beholder" was recommended by a friend and, after reading it, I am eager to learn more. Is this book the best place to start for anyone who wants to get up to speed fast on this exciting process beginning to transform organizational life? I can't imagine why not.

As a member of the Washington Ethical Society, whose mantra is "Elicit the best," I am naturally intrigued by the repeated promise of appreciative inquiry to bring out the best in human beings and their organizations. In this book, a number of leaders achieve this goal with what means are available to them. Apparently they all seek, consciously or not, to join and enhance their associates' strengths while rendering their weaknesses immaterial.

Marjorie Schiller, one of the book's three editors, points out the three core elements of appreciation: acknowledging what is special; recognizing the ordinary or expected; and appreciating what is painful and difficult in many of life's experiences. How these are used by appreciative leaders is examined again and again in the book with leaders whose habitat ranges from large industrial corporations to health care and community support organizations.

The editors invited 110 people to propose stories for this book and chose 15. Each author interviewed and wrote a rich profile of men and women who demonstrate appreciative leadership in action. Since Forbes Magazine has chosen Bob Stiller of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters as Entrepreneur of the year, I think the authors, in choosing him as an appreciative leader, were right on the money. The leaders they describe are inspirational people who are enjoying success in business using simple but effective relational skills. These important ideas which support positive and authentic interactions should help shape the leaders we need for the future. I found this book to be a very accessible introduction to the field of Appreciative Inquiry. I'm excited to have discovered this beneficial little book and I've already recommended it to several people. It was well worth my precious reading time.

Thanks to Doris and Matt for their great work! I found this book especially helpful in two areas: a) addressing key issues an organization should think about relative to its readiness for a succession planning process; and b) the detail on the talent review meeting process. I also like the "Terms and Definitions" section since many different terms within organizations are used to describe this process. My only wish is that the book spent more time discussing what should happen during the year (between talent review meetings).

This book is an outstanding resource for any HR Business Partner and any business leader who understands the importance of identifying and building individual and organizational capability. The book contains very practical ideas and suggestions that will help an organization build maturity in talent management and succession planning. This is one of those books that all HR practitioners in HR Business Partner or Organizational Development roles should have!

This book is a refreshingly practical guide for HR professionals and organizational leaders of all types. The components of a plan are well identified and the authors offer legitimate advice for those who'll actually do the work of succession planning.

I purchased this book in preparation for several Talent Reviews that I was due to plan and facilitate within my organization. To say the least, it was a tremendously helpful and useful resource every step of the way. Not only did it provide me step-by-step guidance on preparing all the details of my sessions, but the checklists and templates were instrumental in helping me facilitate effective and meaningful discussions for my clients.

I am now using this book to help me in preparing next steps following the Talent Reviews to ensure momentum is not lost. And once again, I am delighted by the insight and practical tools the book offers to support me in this process.

My favorite part of this book is its "just-in-time" nature. I have read it on planes, in the office, at home and at stop lights on my way to work. In fact, I've even had it by my side in the actual Talent Review discussions in case I need to refer to it during breaks.

"Building Tomorrow's Talent" features numerous checklists, 'FAQ' sections, charts, slide presentation ideas, and an applicable project planning template adaptable to any business organization. Of special note is the 'to tell or not to tell' question with respect to high potential notification decisions. "Building Tomorrow's Talent" is a unique and highly recommended instructional reference for anyone charged with the responsibility of developing and managing the human resources of a business operation of any size or scope.

I recently purchased this book. This regressionist is local to me in Washington State, and she used to be on the AM radio quite frequently at KKNW AM1150 in Bellevue, WA.

In fact, I "won" a group regression session by calling the station at the appropiate time. I attended the session and was able to quite clearly visualize a former incarnation in Russia that seems to always surface in group sessions such as this one, probably because it might be quite relevant to my current situation this lifetime.

She has quite a local following and it seems she has been featured at national and international symposiums on reincarnation related topics. Actually, I have only casually read parts of the book, but I can attest to her abilty as a practitioner.

What a pleasure to find a book that covers all areas of concern with regard to Past Life Regression Work.No mumbo jumbo here, just an easy to follow overview and advice on the Topic.
I really get sick of books that waffle on....if you want to know about Past Life Work, this is it.5 out of 5 Mary Lee.

Mary Lee LaBay provides past life regression techniques helpful for both the novice and expert to understand and eliminate the stresses and hardships experienced in everyday life. The book is loaded with riveting examples. It also contains past life regression scripts anyone can use.

Mary Lee tackles the tough issues like false memories, belief systems and reality vs metaphor. She also discusses fascinating concepts like life between lives, and souls that can step in to lives already in progress.

Simply "head and shoulders" above other books in this field. An easy read too.

I'm not a past life regression practitioner but I'm trying to access past life memories by working with a hypnotist and doing my own meditation.

Even so this book was fascinating for me.

It goes far beyond just the mechanics of hypnotizing someone although that is covered for the professionals who regress others for a living.

It looks at past life memories and the time between lives from a broad perspective as far as how they relate to each other and to this current life.

The author seems to have certain psychic abilities and be able to travel in other dimensions such as the 'astral' plane of existance.

There are many strange topics in this book which will be almost revolutionary to people who have strict beliefs. These are too numerous to list in this review but suffice it to say these might fall under the category of 'new age' ideas for some people.

This is a great book. It keeps coming out with amazing ideas right on through to the epilogue which offers a wonderful message of hope.

I have read a lot on past life regression. This book has good case examples for the beginner!

This book was so good, I could not put it down. It shows humanity in the face of war.

Lt. Col. (Ret.) Germain said about this book that she hoped "to put a human face on war, showing that it affects us all, no matter what side we are on." She also helps families of returning soldiers to understand some of their loved ones' re-entry issues. The story of Germain's Abu Ghraib experience is important reading, and Lounsbury has done a masterful job of professionally writing the narrative.

Lt. Col. Germain in her memoirs spoke of great values that are easily lost in the battle field. She cared for her Iraqi patients and treated them with respect and dignity. She lived by a strict code of conduct when humiliation and torture of prisoners was taking place so close by. She made us all proud Americans by demonstrating our true values to those who disagree with us and certainly won their hearts and minds.

Great reading. You really have to admire her. News coverage what a bunch of BS.

This story helped me to understand what it feels like to be a soldier and a nurse during war time.
I would highly recommend it to nurses especially as it make you stop and think about the ethics of war time nursing.
The book is and excellent read for non medical people as well. Plenty of heart stopping moments.
It is also a very quick read as I was able to finish it in a weekend. The story never stops moving.
Be sure to keep your Kleenex handy.

This is a wonderful book, both as a guide to clinicians who want to implement ACT for PTSD and as a general guide to understanding ACT and the underlying principles. The chapter on mindfulness is particularly helpful. The authors bring to this book a deep compassion, empathy and understanding of the difficulties of struggling with trauma, and where we as clinicians can get stuck in the process of using ACT to treat it.
The illustrations were also fantastic!!

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for the Treatment of PTSD & Trauma Related Problems by Walser and Westrup provides an excellent overview of PTSD and the various challenges faced by those who are personally grappling with the impact of trauma in their lives. The essence of the book however lies in the application of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a timely and empirically based treatment approach for trauma related difficulties. The authors outline and incorporate ACT in a manner that is clear and approachable for those already familiar with ACT, and those who are interested in learning more about this evidence-based treatment approach. The book provides a clear and concise road map for treatment using ACT in a manner that is consistent with other state of the art empirically based therapies (i.e., exposure) and the growing literature on mindfulness and acceptance based approaches. In addition, it is rich with practical case examples, mindfulness and acceptance exercises, and steeped in metaphors that facilitate the work of therapy. The worksheets, CD-ROM and reference resources complement the material.

The authors also address the essential role of the therapist as an integral part of the therapeutic process, and convey the value in recognizing our respective role and the related challenges faced as clinicians who are often caught up in similar trappings as the person across from us. The book invites the reader to discern in a non-judgmental manner if ACT is well suited for them given what ACT asks of the therapist in terms of their own process, perspective and willingness. Consistent with ACT, Walser and Westrup provide a framework for living a meaningful and valued life that goes beyond the diagnosis and resolution of PTSD. The authors articulate a context of possibilities for living a more complete, rich and vital life that extends beyond amelioration of anxiety. I highly recommend this book.

This is the much needed practical guide for implementing ACT. The overview of ACT is the most practical and understandable I've read and the guide for implementing the treatment is the step-by-step "how to" I've been needing. I really appreciated the specific examples provided for implementing the treatment and the word for word descriptions of how experienced ACT clinicians approach difficult situations. It is rare to discover a book like this that not only furthers my understanding of a treatment but also motivates me to practice it!

What a pleasure to read a book for "work" and to savor each chapter and look forward to the next. This accessible, engaging book is written with warmth and compassion. You feel as if you were in the room with these seasoned and oh-so-human therapists and their courageous clients.
After reading the book, I now understand the essence of Acceptance and Committment Therapy, feel like I have witnessed the experiential exercises, and understand how it is applied in a group setting. But the best part is, I enjoyed every minute of it!

This book is a tremendous asset to therapists, because not only does it address how to treat PTSD using Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), but is a terrific overview of the ACT model itself. I've read other books on ACT, but none have been this concise and this clear on the model, how to implement it, and how to explain it to clients. Another great aspect is that it is really geared toward exactly HOW to implement ACT with PTSD, with examples, scripts of actual sessions, and "sticking points" for both therapists and their clients. This specifically helps therapists with challenges they may have with with ACT as the clinician, but also has specific suggestions for common sticking points for clients. It's well written, concise (unlike other ACT books, which I think can be overly theoretical and less practical), and useful. The application to PTSD and trauma is really clear, and I think this is going to really help the trauma field. The authors certainly have the credentials to back up the book, they are experts in PTSD and are actual practicing clinicians, too. You also have to love the drawings, and quotes that start each chapter, adds a laugh or two while they help illustrate the ideas and concepts. All in all, terrific book.

The book was in perfect condion, I think it best serves as a self help reader rather than a professional guide.

A wonderful addition to any professional library. Leahy provides detailed descriptions and examples of a wide variety of cognitive interventions, complete with examples of the questions and statements that the therapist can use for each intervention, and sample therapist-client dialogues. The book contains many excellent ideas for cognitive restructuring in ways that are empathic and respectful of the client's feelings. There are also lots of sample worksheets that can be used for clients' homework. This book is great for therapists at any level who want new ideas for cognitive work.

This book is extremely useful for the reader as a book for themselves and for their clients. I highly recommend this book.

Dr. Leahy has provided a first-class resource of techniques for the problem-solving oriented clinician to use.

This book is laid out in a logical format; you are shown the technique, the rationale, given clinical vignettes, possible obstacles, cross-references to other techniques to be used in conjunction or perhaps instead of a particular method, as well as a homework assignment for the client. This resource reflects the wisdom born out by many years of practice, as well as understanding how the mind thinks and operates; responses rooted in compassion and an empathy for the human condition.

Dr. Leahy focuses on concepts, from automatic thoughts to schema-focused therapy. This resource is necessary for the clinician not just because of the variety techniques, there are actual handouts for the therapist and the client to use.

I relied heavily on this book during my counseling internship as a go-to resource with very good results. I plan on using this book, as well as the others that Dr. Leahy has written, to inform my practice for many years to come. The homework assignments as well as the forms proved to be very practical and useful for the client.

This book is highly recommended for the novice as well as the veteran practioner alike. 5+ Stars. A must have for your professional library. I cannot recommend this book enough! It was so helpful!

Leahy provides the new therapist with an excellent book of CBT therapeutic techniques. This book is up-to-date and is evidence of further integration of CBT with other types of therapy.

To the practitioner: this book aptly shows how the concepts of good management can be applied in one's professional life and unabashedly explains that much of management is common sense (while admitting that common sense isn't very common).
To the lecturer: whether you're teaching freshman or experienced executives this is the book that will get your students interested in the study of management. It is the perfect introduction.
Students love it because it's affordable, short, and easy to read (particularly those who speak English as a second language). Teachers love it because, by presenting a wide succinct, spectrum of fundamentals, it provides an intelligent springboard from which a more in-depth examination can proceed.
Forget all the other 300+ page, hundred-dollar-or-more verbose introductory management texts. The Concise Handbook of Management is the best way to begin your business or management curriculum and/or brush up on your management skills.

This little gem, which graciously (and refreshingly) operates under the concept that less is more, reads like a Cliff Notes on Management. As far as I can tell, it's also one of the very few management books out there that understands and emphasizes the importance of customers - then backs this imperative up in every chapter. In addition, because the entire book is condensed and to the point (none of the chapters is over four or five pages in length), it is very reader friendly. All in all, Jonathan Scott must be one of the most easily understandable authors writing about management today.

I teach at both the (under) graduate and post-graduate levels and have found that students (whatever their age or experience) cannot fully grasp in-depth or abstract management theory without a solid understanding of basic management principles. This book fills that bill. It injects the saturated subject of management with a directness, clarity and conciseness that is difficult to match. Perhaps the reason for this is that the author is not an academic, but rather a professional writer and successful practitioner who managed a number of businesses in several different countries. What a difference application makes. The book's short, anecdote-laden layout, bristling with substantial and timeless research, makes for a quick and easy read and the importance of customer orientation is carried throughout. If I could award ten stars to this nifty and valuable book, I would gladly do so.

Author Jonathan Scott returns the subject of management to its rightful position as a human endeavour, not a mathematical one. Chapter One is the opening salvo, setting the tone by focusing on what management really entails (forget all the academic nonsense you've heard). Scott insists that accountability, hard work, integrity, training and maturity are the keys to business success and pulls no punches in explaining why they are necessary and how they can be acquired. Bravo!

Straight-forward and realistic without being patronizing or pedantic. This is one of the few management books out there that will open your mind, teach you things you didn't already know, force you to re-examine your own management methods and abilities and show you how all the different aspects of management are tied together. I highly recommend it.
