This book is an extremely useful and pleasant to read thorough review of all apects relating to hypnosis and can be used by professionals who are already certified hypnotherapists as well as laymen. The language is clear and the reading flows easily. The intention to make his work accessible to all readers becomes quite clear as soon as one starts reading. Naturally, since it was first issued, some new knowledge, specially in the field of neurosciences, has become public but this does in no way diminish the broad approach given by the author. I'd recommend the book to anyone interested in the fascinating subject "hypnosis"

I always wanted these cards but never got them because they seemed a frivolous purchase. I finally broke down and got them and have since realized that the concepts that you read on the cards actually stick. There's something about them being 'morsals or wisdom' and game-like that takes the pressure of off learning the patterns. At least for me, I can play with them a bit, or just read a card or two and then get back to them days/weeks later when I'm in the mood. And in the meantime the patterns/language stays with me without having to memorize anything.

The title for this deck of cards is somewhat ambiguous, which is congruent with Ericksonian techniques. It implies that they are a self-help tool that will help you do what you love. If you love Ericksonian hypnosis techniques, they will help you practice and learn them for hypnosis scripting and therapeutic conversational patterns.
They were designed to be used by hypnotherapists, or those who have extensively studied Erickson language patterns and/or NLP. Any practicing psychotherapist, social worker, or other healthcare professional would benefit from learning Ericksonian techniques.
While the deck is somewhat expensive, it provides a handy way to practice and learn a variety of useful language patterns. Along with the "Handbook of Hypnotic Suggestions and Metaphors" by D. Corydon Hammond, this deck will provide you with many ideas for clinical applications.

Milton Ericksonian was a virtual god when it came to Hypnotherapy and these are many of his tried and true techniques. These are the same founding techniques that form the basis for Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), along with Virginia Satir and Fritz Perls. His techniques are used in NLP again and again.
Take it from a C.HT and NLP practitioner that these cards are worth every penny you spend and are useful all around whether you are into NLP, Hypnosis, or not.

The chapter on addiction was unique. The approach taken about the addiction fad was different than other books I have read on the subject. While the book covers a wide range of hypnotherapy topics, including a very good chapter on metaphors as client controlled, the chapter on addictions alone would have made the book worthwile. It is a must read, and was a pleasant surprise to me-much more than I expected!

This book is so full of common sense wisdom that you may wonder why you haven't heard it all before. Yet the approach is unique, especially on dealing with addictions. Also, the use of client generated metaphors and imbedded suggestions is very well explained and interesting. I probably have enjoyed this book as much as any on hypnosis. Very enlightening!

These CD's are an easy listen filled with wonderfully phrased, motivational words. Glenn's Australian accent is a pleasure to listen to. Places on the CD have music as well that accompanies the voice. I LOVE these CD's and own most of them. If you live in the states you may hear an occassional terminology that is not common in the U.S. (Example, in the weight series he uses a weight measurement of a 'stone' which is a British term that represents 14 pounds). This happen rarely and certainly does not detract from the message presented in any of Glenn's CD's. You can't really listen to these in the car as they are a little hypnotic so be sure you are in a stress free mind set and location when you listen to any of therse CD's. I felt they were worth every penny.

PLEASE DONT GET CAUGHT UP WITH HIS ENGLISH ACCENT - THIS IS AN EXCELLENT CD - AND ACCENTS ARE JUST ACCENTS - NOTHING MORE. After listeing to this CD a couple of times you will feel so good that you will not hear the accent anymore.

This book is best read as a reference and overview of the current state of scientific research on hypnosis. The bibliography is wonderful. However, it is written in the overly dense prose of academic/scientific journals (to prove that the subject matter and author are "serious"), so if you're looking for a pleasant reading, this book isn't for you. If you are a grad student or researcher in psychotherapy, neurology, anthropology or biopsychology, then you will find this book very useful. If you would simply like to learn how to hypnotize others or use hypnosis in therapy, this is not the book to buy.

This is a rare find in a book about hypnosis: thre is approachable information about nearly EVERY level or type of hypnotic function for both the lay reader AND the expert seeking details and models or theories of hypnotic process. Peter Brown matter-of-factly explodes the notion that hypnosis is some bizarre state and simultaneously give us interesting tidbits and detail about how nearly all brain function is related to what we loosely call "hypnosis."
Especially because of the flurries of news about false memory syndrome and hypnosis in the not-so-distant-past, this book is both a delightful tour through the human brain, and a useful reference. A MUST read for the generally curious about hypnosis, the hypnotherapeutic practitioner, and anyone in the helping or healing professions

The author generously shares here of his experiences as a clinical hypnotist. As a practitioner myself, I see this book foremost as a resource for those of us in the field, although there is a lot for the general public here too. What I found most interesting was his take on the relationship between evolutionary patterns and weight management and why age/gender has to be taken into account.

Some of my favorite childrens' stories revolve around a character called Hank the Cow Dog by John Erickson. They are based on a ranch in Texas, and, though there are human characters in most of the stories, they are predominantly populated and acted out by animals on the ranch and nearby wild animals.
As I was reading J. Lyon Laydon's An Adventure in Yore for Bedtime Reading, I was mentally trying to compare and correlate it to similarly-themed stories. I considered The Chronicles of Narnia and realized they didn't quite match up. I thought about Lewis Carroll's work, and that wasn't exactly it either. The Wind in the Willows came to mind, but I just couldn't make the connection.
Then towards the end of Adventure in Yore, as the tree frogs sang, it hit me. This story has a very similar footing to the Hank the Cow Dog series. Laydon has struck a very viable chord in children's fiction with this short. He runs ahead with activity and then pulls back for night time relaxation. It's a marvelous piece of writing that, to be honest, I didn't think I would care much for. However, I found out differently.
From Terramore to Mudgunkland to the Domain of Felvin and back to Bogland, Laydon has created a legendarium totally suited to the reading imaginations of little folks - probably between ages 4 and 7, if I had to guess.
This is a fun story to get into, it has poetic value in much of its prose. And it imparts a dreamy quality to its overall presentation. I recommend this story highly.

I don't know about you, but since I was a child, I have loved to pretend that birds, frogs and all kinds of animals and insects have their own little world; one we know nothing about. A world where they have families and friends, do their work and play and live their lives; much like we do our own. In this delightful tale by author, J. Lyon Layden, we are taken into such a world, one of frogs, mice, and rats. Ah! what a combination. It seems the rats are on a mission of war and the frogs are determined to stop them at all costs.
We meet some delightful characters and some nasty ones as well. For instance, Dr. Croaks, who sets off to protect the lands of Terramore against the invasion of mice, and treat any possible wounded. We share his adventure as he battles the rats, whom we find out are behind all the terror in the land, and who are very hateful, nasty, and dangerous. Dr. Croaks is captured, nearly killed and finally rescued by a frog, a kind that Dr.Croaks has never seen before; one that is strong, brave and magical. He is taken to a peaceful forest where he dreams mystical dreams and awakens to find himself safely back home among his friends, healing and ready for the next adventure.
I have to say this is truly a fun and adventurous tale. It has great characters that are developed fully where you have a good mind vision of them. The author uses the characters to show loyalty, friendship, compassion, fear, and also hate, as is found in the rats. The story has interesting locals, and a storyline that keeps your interest and leaves you wanting more. Very well done; very enjoyable read for both the young and young at heart.

Most hypnosis books are written in technical terms for the professional hypnotherapist. This book is for everyone and I'm sure many will recognize in it their own issues and the possibility that hypnosis can help them as it has helped the subjects in the book.

She goes deep into the core of the human psyche using common everyday words. And yet the tone of the book has a softness to it resembling Goddess Mother cooing the words softly in your ear She tackles such issues as How to find your essence, finding the meaning of healing, sub personalities --and she uses simple techniques. This is a seminal text for those clinicians truly wishing to begin to use hypnosis in their practices. It contains all the basic theory, techniques, research, clinical cases and dilemmas of a hypnotherapy practice. His seminars are equally wonderful, with ample theory, practice and case review. Although his style can be initially experienced as intellectual, having trained with him, I find him a brilliant and compassionate clinician. I highly recommend this book to the serious clinician. (Oops! I apologize for having written two reviews of this text, although both are true. I simply forgot I had already written one, due to delay in posting time. However, this is a terrific work, not to be missed. RCK-Psy.D.)
