Relaxation and Spirit Guide/Angels ContactReview Date: 2006-07-27
This is a professionally done CD with clear steps to produce the results that you may be looking for. The relaxation program, program 2, is just that. I use that to relax during the day and found that I am feeling energetic and rested after the session. Janet's voice is soothing.
Usage is safe. There is nothing to be afraid of. Please try this CD and become more balanced and centered and perhaps prevent illness.

Yet, I keep falling asleep during it, so I haven't yet (consciously) been able to follow the instructions to make spirit contact.
I do have confidence though that it will prove as useful as her Sleep Deeply CD has been to me, once I manage my attention better.

professional practice. It is well written for the professional yet easily understood
by the casual reader. It is very motivating and gives hope and direction for those wanting to make a change. No wonder it is cited in at least five other texts.

Many good insights into mind-body healingReview Date: 2004-11-01
Rossi provides a some amazing case-histories where hypnosis has helped people deal with problems which were unresponsive to regular medical treatment.
Together with a number of healing techniques, the focus is on Ericksonian principle of utilization. In this respect he also points out the significance of "utradian rhythm" - the fact that throughout the day we all drift in and out of trance naturally, and that one could do hypnosis even more-effectively by doing it in accord with ultradian rhythm, at a time when the person feels naturally more relaxed and drifting into a trance state.

Even had I not taken the class, all the information on how to effectively hypnotize and teach someone about hypnosis is presented in easy-to-understand language and details established psychological concepts that further explain and support hypnosis.
Krasner's own revolutionary method of performing hypnosis is broken down in explicit detail, and there are lots of scripts for various inductions (rapid, progressive relaxation, etc.) and supporting scripts to build off of to help people conquer fears, pain, smoking, weight loss, anxiety, shyness, etc. as well as pointers and suggestions on how to make your presentation as effective as possible.
This is probably the best book available for anyone interested in learning more about hypnosis and/or connecting with the subconscious mind, whether one's own or someone else's.

And he speaks too quickly for you to mentally repeat what he says.
And at the end there is a wake up command that I disliked until I learned to stop the tape just before it & use it in the morning.
I personally didn't like his directions to go to the beach to feel the sun, or take a shower to feel energy.
But I'm listening to it until I can find a better one.

Pain and HypnosisReview Date: 2005-01-05
Since 1976, I have worked in the field of hypnosis as a teacher, lecturer, researcher and clinician. Most of my work is in the fields of stress, relaxation, biofeedback, weight reduction and smoke cessation, my true interest is that of pain reduction. As I am not a medical doctor, I apply much of my work to friends, family and myself.
Marlene E. Hunter book is outstanding. Although $45.00 for 220 pages is a little pricey, I assume you get what you pay for in the world of publications. The book is basically a collection of scripts which the author has used over a period of 25 years. The work contains scripts for: sexual problems, phobias, fear, pain, psychosomatic disorders, asthma and other psychological and physiological conditions.
Reference to pain relief starts on page 65 and ends on page 80. I was hoping for more but perhaps later there will be an addition to this section. Her 1996 book, "Making Peace with Chronic Pain: A Whole-Life Strategy" is an excellent addition to her work on pain. Finally her work is divided into nine parts including: The Basic Basics, Getting Past Roadblocks, Pain Relief, Psychosomatic Disorders, Journeys of Self Discovery, Children, Habit Disorders, Sexuality and Rehabilitation. This makes it possible for readers to immediately find the sections which interest them the most.

A rare jewel of a book for clinicians and other therapistsReview Date: 2002-12-30
As a clinician with no psychological background I would recommend this book not only to hypnotherapists but to any clinician who communicates with patients on a daily basis.
Each page is divided into a "script section" in the main body of the text and an "Explanation section" which enhances the scripts by detailing why phrases or words are used or spoken in a particular way for maximal effect. These additional pearls allow the therapist insights into how best to deliver the message.
In short - This unique book is user-friendly, practical and a delight to read.

There are interesting scripts for particular problems. Not being an expert, this is only my opinion, but I didn't find them all that creative.

Pediatric Care Providers please note!Review Date: 2008-01-14
"Harry The Hypno-potamus" is the answer when your question is:"What do I offer next to this anxious child?"
Here, either alone for the good readers,or in concert with the involved adult, the child can learn to express fears and concerns and follow with coping techniques. It is an adjunct to good medical care, good teaching, and more effective parenting.
Try it-you'll love it!

Useful, but read with cautionReview Date: 2003-03-28
One aspect of the book that bothered me was that it seems suggest that pain without an obvious cause--which is often the case with chronic pain--is more likely to be psychosomatic in nature. In one passage it advises the hypnotherapist "to expect significant psychological factors in the maintenance of the patient's pain" if that patient "uses unusually colorful terms" to describe the pain, such as saying that it feels like "fish hooks" or "a red hot poker." One should be careful in making such sweeping generalizations. Intense burning sensations that patients might indeed describe as hot pokers that comes without an obvious physical cause, or that lasts long after an initial injury, is a classic description of reflexive sympathetic dystrophy pain. There are also many instances of inflammatory or nerve pain that is not easily diagnosed and that can feel like torture for the sufferer. It is extremely difficult, also, to describe different pain sensations. "Colorful language" or even odd descriptions that might not make a lot of anatomical sense is not necessarily a clue that the pain is largely psychological in nature. More recent developments in the study of chronic pain confirms this. I am both a trained hypnotherapist and a chronic pain patient for the past three years, so I speak with experience.

Scripts and strategies Review Date: 2005-01-17
Previous reviews of the two separate volumes have always touted the scripts as off-the-peg verbatim scripts and frameworks around which to base a bespoke item for the client. However some of the scripts come over as a little too specific for undiluted use, causing me to go through with a pencil making notes.
Part eleven is entitled Therapy Strategies and includes tips for dealing with abreaction, age progression, re-framing, anchors etc. and each of these tactics is dealt with very well. However that is what they are; tactics (or gambits), not strategies. Therapeutic strategy involves various decisions such as "when is it useful to switch from a behaviouristic approach to a classic-dynamic one?" or "should I address the symptom or the cause (or both) in this particular case?" or "how can I most usefully model the direction(s) of causation between the different aspects of this complaint? " etc.
The majority of the scripts, allude to and reflect various strategies as, necessarily so, each script must be based on some paradigm or another. The only exception being the smoking cessation pages where the strategy and paradigm are discussed specifically, (e.g. Aversion vs. Coercion?)
Due to the name of the book, I expected to see some alternative potential conceptions of the nature of each presentation along with their respective interventions, but that's not what the book is all about. The formatting decisions of choosing a large font, and starting each new script on a new page, strongly hint at the book's ultimate purpose. It looks clean and is easily read allowing easy, quick access in the consulting room. After a short introduction to hypnosis it's just cover to cover useful scripts. An index would be welcome, as would be a more complete synopsis of each script, but ultimately the complete re-formatting of the two volumes of `Scripts and Tactics in Hypnotherapy' has made it much more convenient and better value. Now offering twice as many scripts per pound (or Dollar)!
