Richard MacKenzie's approach to Self-Hypnosis is most interesting and inspiring...

It took just a few hours to read, and the aspect that I liked the most is that you can use it instantly. The change that the techniques produce is as well instant!

In short - this book tells you what you need to know and shows you what you need to do!

This requires you to create recordings for your own use

Knowing nothing about self-hypnosis I bought this book assuming that, like meditation, I could do it on my own without equipment. This book would be a helpful tool after working with other self-hypnosis recordings. Then one would be experienced and motivated enough to create a custom tape.

A fantastically full manual of Hypnosis and Personal Development

This book covers many specific areas of self-change and personal development. And as it covers all of the basics, it means that this title is beneficial for anyone.

"Things should be as simple as they need to be, and not simpler." This book took me only a few minutes to read, but the knowledge in it will last a lifetime. Mr. MacKenzie talks about self-change in the most quick, simple, succinct and ingenious way I ever read. (And I've read a lot...) And I have no complaints about his delivery of the subject matter, either. The way he uses language and metaphors shows that he isn't just a hypnosis/NLP expert on paper, he really is. And that's a beautiful thing. So, obligatorily, yet totallly encouragingly. Buy and read this book.

Prior to purchasing this item I had the impression it was some type of a self-hypnosis cd. In reality it is a series of affirmations set to loud tribal like music. The listener is even told to chant the affirmations at one point. The affirmations are encouraging, so I think the title is appropriate. It should be listed as a self-improvement cd, just not hypnosis.

Excellent!

Glenn Harold's voice is hypnotic and relaxing to listen to.

The echoes, music and other special effects used in this cd really helps, by the next day I catch myself restating the affirmations in my mind.

(I'll be purchasing more of Glenn Ford's hypnosis!)

These CD's are an easy listen filled with wonderfully phrased, motivational words. Glenn's Australian accent is a pleasure to listen to. Places on the CD have music as well that accompanies the voice. I LOVE these CD's and own most of them. If you live in the states you may hear an occassional terminology that is not common in the U.S. (Example, in the weight series he uses a weight measurement of a 'stone' which is a British term that represents 14 pounds). This happen rarely and certainly does not detract from the message presented in any of Glenn's CD's. You can't really listen to these in the car as they are a little hypnotic so be sure you are in a stress free mind set and location when you listen to any of therse CD's. I felt they were worth every penny.

I own several of Glenn Harrold's CDs. I've tried many other relaxation/hypnosis products over the years and Glenn Harrold's are by far-and-away the best I've heard. As many of the other reviews have pointed out, the production values on these CDs are extraordinary, but that's not what makes them special. What makes these CDs special is how good they leave you FEELING.

Many of the other hypnosis recordings I've tried would either put me to sleep half of the time or just feel like a chore to listen to. Glenn Harrold's CDs actually make for a very enjoyable and pleasant listening experience. And regardless of how I felt before hand, I'm always left feeling refreshed, serene and on an "even keel".

If you're looking to purchase just one hypnosis title, make it one of Glenn Harrold's. You will not be disappointed.

This is an excellent book for hypnotherapists working with clients and for those experienced in using self-hypnosis wanting to lose weight. Each chapter focuses on a separate psychological issue which may have inhibited successful weight loss in the past. Practical tools and suggestions for behavior/thought changes are clearly provided in a hypnotic trance format. I am combining the Dr. John McDougle nutrition lifestyle plan with the useful information in The Thin Book to stay on track with my changes in eating and exercise....and I am successful!

There are a lot of things to love about The Thin Book.

The first is that it is, literally, a thin book. It is 108 pages of double spaced type. Personally, I believe most books, and most certainly those in the mental health field, are much too long. The Thin Book sets a great example of what is possible.

Another reason to love The Thin Book is the simplicity of its organization. It is a terrific book, and that, it seems, was Brickman's intention. He has given us fourteen chapters, each of which is a well-developed trance script addressing the subconscious meaning of a specific weight loss challenge. Some of these scripts, such as "Compulsive Eating as a Defense Against Anxiety," "Craving Fruit and Vegetables," or "Late Evening Eating," I might expect to see in a book for weight management.

To my delight, Brickman goes beyond the expected by offering scripts on, "Being Overweight as an Expression of Passivity and Hostility," "Slowing Down the Act of Eating," "Exercising," "Feeling Deprived After a Successful Effort," and "Lacking Resolve when Eating Away From Home."
The book is also unique in that the only writing Brickman presents other than the well-constructed and structured scripts is a 3-page preface. Here he describes himself as a "specialist in weight management." He states, "The scripts use positive suggestions or positive hypnosis in the form of metaphors, analogies, empathy and confrontation that contradict the effects of the unconscious mind." This description offers an accurate portrayal of his work, but understates the sensitivity and richness of his work.

The Thin Book is accompanied by an audiotape, read by Brickman, containing three of his trance scripts: "The Resistant Part of Me," "Saying 'No' to Important Others," and, "Compulsive Eating as a Defense Against Feelings." Hearing Brickman's perfectly soothing voice is as satisfying as a double-layered chocolate cake, and is quite helpful as a teaching tool.

I highly recommend Brickman's The Thin Book to any professional that works with weight issues as well as to any one interested in reading and hearing well done hypnotic scripts.

INTRIGUING, WELL-THOUGHT OUT.

The Thin Book is the first weight control book I EVER READ THAT MADE SENSE TO ME. The approach is spelled out so clearly and concisely that it was almost too good to be true. But my pants are all looser now and that's living proof that following the book's teachings were so helpful. I'm so excited with my progress.

When my girlfriend, Jenna became concerned about her increasing weight, we took a look in the local B&N store for weight managment books. To our disliking all were literally too promising, from "lose 10 pounds in 10 days" to "you could look like ::Celebrity Picture:: in 30 days!!!", and with prices of $40, we didn't feel the motivation to buy any of them. We decided to take another approach, and did a Yahoo! search and
came across this book by Hal Brickman. It was reasonably priced and looked promising. Upon recieving it, Jenna was instantly indulged in it. Two months after recieving it, she has lost a total of 25 pounds and has never been happier.
In conclusion, I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a healthier lifestyle.

Hal Brickman is to be commended for an easily digestible book, which transforms complex clinical issues around weight management into simple-to-follow steps. The steps identified encourage creative customization to meet specific individual needs, and would be equally beneficial to either the general public or practicing clinicians. This book makes an important contribution to maintaining/renewing one's wellbeing!

This is a great CD. I was concerned that hypnosis would not work on me, but the last couple of times I've used the CD I've awakened from my "trance" and noticed I'd been drooling! And I was sitting up to listen!

At the beginning of the recording Ms Decker says that in case of emergency you will be awake and alert. For some reason she restates this a couple of times in the course of the program. I found this very distracting and unnecessary. Generally the content is good, but sometimes it sounded too much like reading from a text.

Of all 20 of the CDs I have bought for meditation and hypnosis this is the one that stood out. It's very easy to follow, with no difficult visualizations, but a deep and wonderful hypnotic state is acquired. I put this on my MP3 player and now anytime I have an emotional pain in my mind I go right to this CD and it is erased, and replaced with a calming peace and emotional control. Janet is amazing and I hope she makes many more CDs. Thank You!

I am a PhD student at MIT, and I am therefore really skeptical of all things that seem to be off-mainstream. But anxiety was taking a toll in my life, so I have tried many things. This CD helps me relax like nothing else. Only Yoga Nidra has a similar relaxing effect for me. The voice is nice, and the exercise really helps me relax even when I have a staunch anxiety episode. So I can recommend it.

It's ironic that a book entitled "Settle for Excellence (Stop Chasing Perfection)" is actually the closest self-development book to perfection I've ever read (and I've read nearly five hundred). It becomes clear very early on that this is a piece of work far beyond the level of excellent.

Topher's style is friendly and easy, and will be easily understood by all readers no matter what their level or previous exposure to self-development. There is no doubt that while reading this book you will be inspired to take positive action.

I would like to thank Topher for this great book and I highly recommend it to everyone who has an interest in being all that they can be.

This book is awesome. Read it.

After completing "Settle for Excellence" you will be inspired to "Seize the Day". I found it to be an excellent guide to self introspection. It will leave one feeling inspired and motivated to pursue overcoming the ever present barriers that seem to hold some of us back from obtaining various desired outcomes. This easy to read easy to follow book will help you understand certain behavior patterns, use tools you already have, and alter those behaviors allowing you to reach the goals you once thought unattainable. The best part about this process is things don't have to be perfect. A conclusion of stating this work is "Excellent" would be an understatement....It is "Perfect"!

Very pleased with Hypnotherapy Scrits 2nd edition. It gives all that is needed to enhance my job as a psychotherapist. Periodically a patient's needs go beyond our simple techniques. The benefits of hypnotherapy are clearly laid out. This book provides an appropriate script for each target need, without alot of filler. It also provides the nuts and bolts of Neo-Ericksonian communication; The benefits of Diagnostic Trance process; The use of building the unconscious self healing resources of each patient; Of speaking in a calming, reassuring, inspiring, and captivating manner. It also inspires and encourages the therapist in the use of this communication. "Allowed to examine and respond to their discomfort in a relaxed state of mind, they may automatically discover how to become comfortable instead."

I use at least one of these scripts with every client that I have. I addition, the way the book is organized into induction scripts, direct & metaphor scripts, and a termination script, allows you to select different inductions from your own work or from another script book and still use the direct and termination scripts in this book that others do not have. I have yet to find a termination script as useful as this one.

The book is clear and easy to read with interesting information. I would listen to the CD at night and kept falling asleep so I didn't remember what he said. It didn't matter because my unconscious mind heard it. I noticed immediately that many cravings have stopped. At night I remembered that I had a fruit popsicle in the freezer and was going to get it when my mind said "but you are not hungry". I took a moment and noticed that I was full and satisfied and did not get the popsicle and more important did not feel deprived. It was there and I chose not to eat it. I also came home from work and instead of snacking, I excercised to a a Taebo video. During excercising I noticed that I actually enjoyed it. I felt energized and felt good about how well I had followed the exercising routine. It has been only 4 days and I have lost 2 pounds already. I am confident that I am on on the right path.

Steven and Joy Gurgevich do a wonderful job of explaining the power of the mind and how hypnosis can be used to create lasting changes in behavior. I Recommend combining it with the approach in Body Esteem: Weight Loss Through Self-Discovery (includes 2 Audio CDs), the two books wonderfully compliment one another. Body Esteem gets deeper into the emotional reasons behind eating and is more of a workbook approach.

By accessing the subconscious, my weight loss struggle finally went beyond dieting, which was the key for me. Just consider what drives your eating habits, that's the place to start. Most people are so focused on working from the outside in, rather than the inside out, they are never able to build a real foundation for permanent lifestyle change. I'm over the "lose weight fast" diets and bogus pills, I'm getting thinner and healthier by changing the way I think about myself and food.

Mastering Body Weight through the Mind-Body Connection

Review Date: 2008-01-16
One of the biggest secrets THE SELF-HYPNOSIS DIET book contains is that it's not really a diet book at all, even though it will likely be one of the best sources of information you will ever find to help you consistently maintain your ideal weight. While diet books help people maintain good body weights by paying close attention to what and how much they eat, the magic of this book is that no regimented self-control regarding food is required at all. Rather than measuring small portions and obsessing about food and weight, the authors present self-hypnosis techniques that provide the reader with a whole new way to address long-standing emotional issues. THE SELF-HYPNOSIS DIET demystifies hypnosis, with help from a companion hypnosis CD that comes with the book and makes it easy to use the powers of the mind-body connection to get amazing results.

What I love most about THE SELF-HYPNOSIS DIET is the way this book says, "If a person really believes that they can have their perfect weight, they will," and then includes real-life case studies about how various clients found unique ways to address their specific, individual issues. I loved reading the success stories about the woman who imagined she could eat whatever she wanted and really lose weight... and she did... and the story about the man who learned to eat imaginary, very filling mushrooms before each and every meal, therefore feeling full at the proper time. I also love how this book is packed with dozens of useful tips and helpful research which can help readers uncover and heal their own inner beliefs and issues pertaining to their weight.... and how easy it can be to use this self-hypnosis method to achieve all kinds of goals in life, in addition to reaching and maintaining optimal weight and health.

The companion hypnosis CD is easy to listen to and especially helpful for those who have never before experienced hypnosis, as Steven and Joy guide us through a process of allowing ourselves to become absorbed in our own thoughts and ideas... discovering how a hypnotic trance and a daydream are very similar. As mind and body share information more effectively through this focused state of immersion where we are immersed in our own ideas, we gain the advantage of becoming more comfortable and relaxed and positive... making the changes we desire happen by letting them happen. And it just doesn't get better than that!

Before I was hypothyroid never had to worry about my weight, so becoming hypothyroid was a major rude awakening. Where before I could lose weight by cutting out a few sodas and chips each week, after my thyroid problem started, I not only couldn't lose weight, I actually gained weight following stringent diets. It was awful. I was so relieved when I finally was able to start losing weight again, by optimizing my thyroid function, changing what I ate, and adding in supplements and appropriate exercise (an approach I've outlined in detail in my book, The Thyroid Diet: Manage Your Metabolism for Lasting Weight Loss). But that doesn't mean that I don't work at this every single day. I always have more to lose it seems, because it's easy to gain, holidays and wintertime can be setback periods, and I'm by nature not an athletic or active person. So weight loss and management is a lifestyle for me, not just something I can do once and forget about!

So, with all this in mind, I have to say that s Steven and Joy Gurgevich's book/CD, The Self-Hypnosis Diet, is a resource that I consider pretty much indispensable, no matter what type of diet you are following -- helping make any diet successful -- whether you're following my Thyroid Diet, or you're doing Weight Watchers, or Ediets, or low-carbing it, South Beach, or making up your own diet as you go.

I've been using this book and companion CD for more than a year, and I consider it absolutely essential to my ongoing diet and weight loss efforts. Dr. Gurgevich is a member of the faculty at the University of Arizona's College of Medicine, where he is the Director of the Mind-Body Clinic and teaches mind/body medicine to physicians. Dr. Gurgevich is very much the real deal, and he has created an incredible, effective approach.

When it comes to diet and weight loss, I only recommend books or products
that I have personally tried and found helpful. I'm a diet product guinea pig for thyroid patients, and believe me, I've tried some pretty wacky things along the way. Most of the things I try I never even bother to write about. Why? Because they don't work, and they're just trying to rip us off!

But this is different. Quite simply, the Self-Hypnosis Diet does work. It helps make the connection between what you WANT to do, and what you DO! You know that feeling -- you're shoveling a cookie in your mouth and thinking, "Why am I eating this when I want to lose weight?" Your goals and desires are not translating into action. Somehow, after you read the Self-Hypnosis Diet, and listen to the accompanying CD, if you're like me, you'll find yourself acting the way you WANT to when it comes to diet and
exercise. Instead of sabotaging yourself, you end up supporting yourself, and making decisions that are good for you. It makes it easier to be on a diet.

I know something like self-hypnosis doesn't sound like it's for everyone. It sounds woo-woo or "holistic-ballistic!" But it's actually very straightforward...by learning to relax and make a true mind-body connection, you get your weight loss goals synched up with your behavior.

An interesting aside: When I first started with the Self-Hypnosis Diet, my best friend kept asking me what I was doing, as she thought I was looking great. I gave her a copy -- she didn't need to lose weight (she doesn't have a thyroid problem, lucky her!), but she wanted to try to stop eating chocolate and eat more veggies. After a few weeks, she had gotten rid of her raging chocolate cravings, and was craving salads. And she told me she had the weirdest side effect. She stopped smoking of all things, something she'd wanted to do for years and had given up hope on!

Makes you mindful

I admit I went to sleep listening to the entire thing (they say that is normal). But now that I know which tracks get to the beef, they are very good. They help to make you mindful (the book comes with a CD). The book is a bit boring but what is unique is it's not food plan and it's not quackery "you are getting sleepy" hypnosis. I put it on my IPOD and listen before bed. The net/net is that it makes you mindful during the day. It helped me give myself a Girl Scout cookie Samoa intervention (I normally eat pretty good but those Samoas are down right evil I tell you!). It worked. I heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman's emails that I get (he is awesome as well) and Dr. Weil also did a plug on these guys. You do have to get past the corny parts "you can do it, yes you can" but it's worth it. I also like Belleruth Naparstek. Her voice is soothing and she has an entire series. So, if you are struggling or need adjusting, add this to your aresenal and just use it as time to relax. It may surprise you that it has some impact on your thinking (but I do recommend staying awake for tracks 6 & 7 where the real beef is).

The Wise Mind is a delicious and significant book.

It is divided into four parts: Brilliant Transformational Power; What Your Wise Mind Might Tell You; Finding Your Wise Mind; and Stories of the Wise Mind. Almost every page projects a sweet "indigo energy" which will touch, move and inspire readers who are open to her sweetly, almost ethereally, nurturing spirit.

As for its significance, one of the many gifts that Ms. Gordon brings to the world is to depart from jargon and to help evolve a new, clearer, vocabulary with which to empower her readers.

A classical hypnotist might speak of "the subconscious," a word which imparts little information and which some (ahem, subconsciously) might find slightly intimidating or confusing. Ms. Gordon -- who does not use the term hypnosis, although she is highly respected by the leadership of the international professional hypnotist community -- instead addresses "the wise mind." The simplicity of her formulation does not mask its profundity, breakthrough significance, or important "rightness."

Ms. Gordon lays out in detail the transformational power of the Wise Mind and explains the Wise Mind Process. She makes the power of this process abundantly credible largely by the power of the clarity of her exposition.

She defines the Wise Mind as follows; The Wise Mind is the higher faculty of advanced consciousness, wisdom, or guidance that is innate in every human being. It's the part of the Self that can stand back and see from a greater perspective. Brilliant wisdom is within every being. It's brilliant because we are a reflection of the great Universe itself. The Wise Mind is part and parcel of the Universal Source, as it exists in microcosmic form within us."

Every step is natural and intuitive. Step One: Describing Your Situation, Paying Attention; Step Two: Breathing and Breaking Up Your Issue Into Tiny Molecules; Step Three: The Wise Mind; Step Four: Imagining Yourself as You'd Like to Be and Anchoring It. And even a Bonus Step! (How very Ms. Gordon of her!)

John Gray, author of the famous Mars and Venus books, has high praise for The Wise Mind. So does Pnosis.com. It's a wise, lovely and profound work.

We expected no less from Ms. Gordon, our Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. She stands near to remind us that we always have had the powers within ourselves. Including the power simply, and easily, to go home.

In her new book The Wise Mind, Marilyn Gordon clearly demonstrates what a truly inspirational teacher & author she is. For those who believe that we should look inside to find the truth, this is an important read. Marilyn not only describes this journey in detail, but gives the reader a map for accessing this guidance from within.
I particularly loved Chapter Eight, Step Two of the Wise Mind Process: Breathing & Breaking Up Your Issue Into Tiny Molecules, where Marilyn teaches us the extraordinary power of the breath as life force to move matter & consciousness. Here she describes in understandable terms what the quantum physicists have been trying to tell us: that matter is not solid, that it is made up of particles, & that we can use our own inner power to break up our "solid" issues into tiny particles for transformation.
I also loved the Meditations section, especially the meditation on Finding & Channeling your Wise Mind, a beautiful journey.

As a speech-language pathologist, interfaith chaplain, hypnotherapist and author, I find this book to be an indispensable resource. The Wise Mind is one of those rare books that will benefit each of us, our youth and our elders, every day of our lives. It blends so much practical real-life universal wisdom with key strategies that immediately enhance successful living. In a masterful way, Marilyn Gordon offers us the gems from her many years of accumulated knowledge and experience in empowering people to heal disappointments and illness and manifest their soul's desires. She shows how personal development is instinctual and truly offers humanity great meaning and purpose of life.

I know from experience that it is the difficult times that bring me great opportunity to let go of the old and remake myself again and again into what I am capable of becoming. The Wise Mind offers a dynamic yet simple blueprint for paying attention to everything in life and using challenges and obstacles for transforming emotions and creating breakthroughs into advanced consciousness. As the author writes, "Through your connection with advanced consciousness you have the ability to live on the highest levels of life."

At home, I can be distracted. So this weekend I took myself to the library, specifically for the purpose of reading my new treasure by Marilyn Gordon. I have long admired and appreciated her books. Each one is a gem. "The Wise Mind" is my favorite yet.

Marilyn's "wise mind" approach is -- refreshingly -- neither intrusive nor manipulative. It leaves the standard, old-fashioned, external "master hypnotist knowing what is right for incapacitated hypnotic subject" approach behind in the dust.

Each individual's wise mind knows exactly what s/he needs. The wise mind knows how to go kindly, respectfully, precisely, to the cause of the problem. This gently inquiring, superconscious, heart-centered approach can't help but leave both client and therapist feeling authentic and in integrity, confident that genuine movement has occurred.

This book is a gift to those of us who are fascinated by how the human psyche and higher wisdom come together for healing. Well thought out, clear, "The Wise Mind" coaches both self-healers and professionals. The best of all possible healers is within every one of us and it's always waiting for us to invite its help. Whenever we need to clear a pain, a fear, an anger or a sorrow, going to our wise mind is efficient, effective -- and most empowering.

"The Wise Mind" was a wonderful gift for me as a hypnotherapist. The formal training I took clashed with my heart. Now that Marilyn has put her very important work in writing, I feel confirmed -- as if a missing part of my training is finally complete. I have met a kindred spirit.

At the library, I snuggled down into a big chair with my book. I was surprised to find myself making non-library noises -- laughing in delight at the lessons, stories and quotes. Well done, Marilyn! Well done! And -- THANK YOU!

The Wise Mind is a Divine Gift!

First off let me tell you that I knew I would love this book even before I started reading it. Why? Because it was written by Marilyn Gordon. I love all her books. To me, she is one of my great teachers.

As I write this I have read only the first 120 pages and have recognized that it is a great work which will help thousands (if not more) people around the world! For those of you who have read my book, The Secret Language of Feelings, you will see immediately that this book extends and reinforces what I have believed for so long, but have not necessarily always taught in such a directly spiritual manner. Marilyn is very direct, honest and informed in her spirituality. I commend her for her insight and courage.

My highest praise goes to Marilyn Gordon and her new book, The Wise Mind, and the technique that she teaches in it. The world needs more books like The Wise Mind and more teachers like Marilyn Gordon!

I bought the book for my husband who just finished an intense few months absorbed in Dahn Hak Yoga. He was so excited to get it, but then I found it a few weeks later in our stack to give to charity. He didn't find what he needed in there... good luck.

Marilyn Gordon is a marvelous healer and her books reflect her beautiful healing Light! Extraordinary Healing is a double pleasure, two books in one really. First she takes you on an inspirational journey of healing and then she shows you how to overcome common problems on your own using the miracle technique, EFT. She shows you how a very simple "tapping" technique can free you from fears, anxieties, and move you into healing.

Thank you Marilyn for this very practical and wonderful book. I will continue to order them by the case lots so that I can offer them to our students at The Banyan Hypnosis Center for Training & Services. You and your book are the best at teaching this technique.
