This is the first book I've read about homeopathy, and it really impressed me. From the author's personal stories about her son being cured of autism to her review of the medical literature concerning homeopathy (which, aside from a few errors in the footnoting, is quite excellent), the book kept me, someone who is on the fence about homeopathy, riveted.

Great book

I don't usually write reviews because it takes alot to impress me. This books fits that criteria. It is a wonderful book dealing with a mom at her wits end with a child diagnosed with autism. It was recommended to me by a lady studying homeopathy and I am so glad that I took her advise. If there is one book that I would recommend the lay person to understand the when, where, how, what, and why of homeopathy it would be this book. Because I am a mom and I don't have a lot of time to read books with a lot of high minded words written by a person who thinks way to much of themself than they should, I loved this book. She is compassionate and caring and uses words and thoughts that are easy to understand for a person who feels that there has got to be something better out there. When you read this book you can tell that she wrote it out of love and a desire to help others who may have found themselves in a similar situation to hers. I like the book "Homeopathy made simple" for how to treat different ailments and the specific remedies to use, but "The Impossible Cure" is outstanding when compared to other books that I have read dealing with Homeopathy.

EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION TO HOMEOPATHY YET!!!

I don't usually use all caps but this was the best book ever on introducing the reader to homeopathy! It's easy to read, and helps those that may not be aware of homeopathy's healing powers that it really does work despite some of the misconceptions out there. If you are new to homeopathy than you MUST READ this book.

As a long time student of Homeopathy, I heartily endorse this book and all the excellent reviews of it. Rather than repeat what has already been said so eloquently, I will simply add that Homeopathy is an incredible asset to our well-being. Practitioners spend many years studying their art and are always updating their training and learning more about what Homeopathy can do, and how to best utilize this amazing healing agent.

Anyone who is willing to spend a bit of time studying Homeopathy, including its history and the principles on which it is based, will be well rewarded. For chronic or complicated conditions a qualified professional is essential. The optimum would be to consult with a professional, and at the same time study the first aid applications that you can use on your own. It would, of course, be preferable to have the option of checking with the professional when using the remedies independently for such things as bumps and bruises, etc.

Homeopathy is so powerful that it is important to know the basic guidelines, even when using the remedies easily available, such as Arnica. Homeopathy is one area is which the reward for time spent studying is repaid many times over when the correct remedy is used and you experience the miracle of Homeopathy for yourself. Also, by being informed, we know when it is important to consult a professional rather than self-medicate. The remedies are safe and virtually side-effect free, however as with anything that is this effective, knowledge is important.

A great place to start is this book - and if you are already a student of Homeopathy, this is an excellent book to further your understanding.

One day, I looked up and saw this book sitting on my home bookshelf. Don't ask me how it got there, but the timing was perfect: I discovered that just a few days hence, the author would be teaching at a local bookstore, and I already had the text in hand. It was just one more step on an amazing journey I couldn't have even begun to have predicted.

Shewmaker has infused this book with such love and compassion that it is not uncommon to feel the healing energy moving through your body just as you sit and read. She walks healers through every step of SSR (Sekhem-Seichim-Reiki), from the origins of its three facets, through all of the symbols and the initiation process, and even into the more mundane matters of healing as a business.

This book is a valuable tool on so many levels, whether you're completely new to energy healing or a seasoned master. I, too, am looking forward to the release of the teacher's manual!

Can't wait for the teacher's edition!

As a SSR Master Teacher, I've been using this manual for my own Sekhem/Seichim/Reiki practice. The atunements in the back of the book are especially powerful and filled with love. For anyone interested in energy work, I would consider this required reading. Even if you have never been exposed to Reiki before and are interested in learning more about it from one of the best teachers out there (she attuned the woman who attuned me), this is a great book for novices as well as seasoned professionals.

When I opened the book and began to read about Seicheim, an Energy System I have been looking for more information on, I was delighted with the material. I felt it was well written, straight forward and very helpful for practitioners and anyone who is interested in Seichiem. It was as if I were in a class with Diane. I feel that anyone who is interested in working with energy will find the book very helpful. I do not know Diane and I have never taken a class with her or Patrick Zigler, but I am looking forward to taking a class from her very soon. Enjoy, the book is a Jewel.

I have many books on Homeopathy that I have used for years however, I truly consider this find a gem. This book is excellent because of how it is organized and how it incorporates common and uncommon remedies. He provides orderly, comprehensive information that is easily understood to even the less experienced lay person. I wish that he would write more on homeopathy and I would definately recommend as a 1st book or an addition to current collection.

I have a small library of homeopathic books, and this is the first one I consult when a problem arises. It is a repertory, not a materia medica, so then I cross check myself with other books to confirm.
The first section which discusses about homeopathy is concise and useful, including discussion of potencies and modalities. The next part is body system charts to quickly refer you to the rest of the book which is organized by problem alphabetically, each with a list of possible remedies, each remedy with a brief description characterizing it so you can choose the most appropriate.

Almost as good as his herbal reference

*Almost a mirror image of his herbal remedy book, I recommend them as companion guides*

Like his other book on herbal remedies, Asa Hershoff, ND, divides the source into an easily readable guide. He started out with a long chapter on homeopathic advantages, research on the remedies, their types, history of, and more. This include types of pain, taking the remedies, doses, and processes. The treatment index guide is broken into sections identical to the herbal guide. Each condition is listed alphabetically under its condition, with a brief intro on the problem and how to solve it, followed then by a list of homeopathic remedies by name only then 3-4 lines below. Each line has a different reason for using it. Stars are by the homeopathic remedy, signifying how recommended it is. One star means a weaker treatment, while five is obviously highly regarded.

While in no means a comprehensive 'teaching' text, it's not meant to be. Instead it's a reference that allows easy location of conditions and their treatment, with notes jotted down. Concise, clear, and good to grab in a pinch.

I was never seriously ill during most of my life, but a stubborn case of no-external-trigger urticaria (hives) has been plaguing me for nearly a year. I've visited one regular doctor, one osteopath, two emergency room docs, three allergists, and three acupuncturists. They were all unable to cure the hives, but the allergists finally brought my symptoms under control with a powerful hellbroth of prescription drugs:

1 Prednisone (steroid, immunosuppressant) 20mg pill in the morning
1 Tagamet (Cimetidine, H2 antihistamine) 300mg pill in the morning
1 Allegra (Fexofenadine, H1 antihistamine) 180mg pill in the morning
1 Zyrtec (Cetirizine HCl, H1 antihistamine) 10mg pill in the afternoon
1 Atarax (Hydroxyzine HCl, H1 antihistamine) 25mg pill at bedtime
3 Doxepin (antidepressant, sedative) 10mg pills at bedtime
1 Tagamet 300mg pill at bedtime
1 Prednisone 20mg pill at bedtime

Plus, I had to carry an emergency epinephrine (adrenaline) syringe everywhere, just in case my precariously-balanced immune system tipped into anaphylactic shock.

One of the allergists provided me with a light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel newsflash: "These cases usually burn themselves out in three to five years."

But if you take Prednisone for a long time, you tend to gain a lot of weight, and your immune response is slowly crippled. The allergists tried to cut down the Prednisone gradually, but my hives always returned with a vengeance. [A minor bout with urticaria is much like being flayed alive... and after experiencing several full-blown major attacks, I wouldn't wish one on my worst enemy.] I was clinically depressed, and marginally suicidal.

My doctors thought I was doing great, considering.

Since the AMA and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) practitioners couldn't really help, I turned to homeopaths as a last resort. Even though I had always viewed homeopathy as a marginal--if not totally quack--science, I was at the end of my rope and desperate enough to try anything.

After a few homeopathic treatments, my drug regimen is now down to:

1 Prednisone 2.5mg pill (1/16 of my previous daily intake) in the afternoon
1 Benadryl 25mg pill (over-the-counter antihistamine) at bedtime

These doctors are determined to wean me off drugs completely, God bless 'em. Needless to say, I now highly recommend homeopaths. And they recommended that I read Homeopathy: Beyond Flat Earth Medicine, for an overview.

I wish I'd read it a year ago.

Well worth it

I thoroughly enjoy using this book. It is not only full of information, but visually appealing and easy to read--unlike many medical reference books. Full of color photos of the plants and herbs used so you can find what you need in your own backgarden or if you live in a foreign country and don't know the local name for the plant/herb in question (like me)... full of remedies from many different natural healing methods (ie, 10+ different remedies for diahrea depending on the very specific accompanying symptoms). Clear instructions with photos on how to make tinctures, infusions, etc. I cannot endorse this book enough.

Not only does this book cover a vast array of ailments and treatments, it also does this with chronology, great structure and an inviting style.
The photography is clear and the people don't all look like super models or over actors!
All the major alternate diciplines are here and the sections are inviting and easy to follow.
This would be a valuable student tool, a great book for the interested and should (in an ideal world) be in every Doctor's Surgery.

Have you ever noticed how your mood is instantly elevated when you inhale the scent of a rose deeply and with purpose. The world seems like a better place instantly. Rose oil has a frequency of around 320 MHz. Flowers are beautiful on their own and can lift your mood with their fragrance or with their petals blowing in the breeze in nature.

So, what other secrets do flowers conceal? Apparently, they can help us to change our emotional state. The scent of roses is said to dispel anger, or so I have read! In this book, flowers are celebrated as natural healers which can help us return to a healthful state.

Our emotions can at times manifest themselves as a health issue and greatly affect our bodies. Dr. Edward Bach (1897-1936) believed that physical illness was a manifestation of emotional imbalance. He believed we can heal and balance the body with nontoxic methods.

Some of the remedies include:

ASPEN - For fear or anxiety IMPATIENS - For impatience, irritability and nervousness. MUSTARD - Severe depression WILLOW - For neutralizing resentment and bitterness VERVIAN - For tension and hyperactivity or overachieving STAR OF BETHLEHEM - For mental shock

There are also remedies you can take for sensitivity, disappointment, muscular cramps, skin rashes, recurrent ailments, critical attitudes and bad dreams.

Look into other health remedies like Arnica for injuries, Pulsatilla for nasal problems, Cantharis for cystitis, Chamomile tea for a restful sleep and Gelsemium for flu symptoms. Look for a homeopathic brand called: Oscillococcinum for symptoms of the flu in the winter. The theory is that a infinitesimal amount of a plant substance can stimulate the body's healing defenses.

The closer you can match your symptom to the remedy, the more effective it will be for you. I suggest reading other homeopathy books along with this one. I also recommend "Reference Guide for Essential Oils by Connie and Alan Higley" from abundant-health4u.com as they have the best products I have found so far.

This book is a wonderful introduction to both the philosophy and the practice of the Bach Flower Remedies. It provides a lot of information without overwhelming the reader. The book is arranged in three sections. The first is Dr. Bach's essay entitled "Heal Thyself" which is about how each one of us has the power and is capable of healing ourself, the second section gives a short, useful description of each essence. The third section is a wonderful list of numerous emotional states and the appropriate essence to use for each one.

If you're at all interested in learning how to treat yourself using these remedies, this is the book for you. I've had this book for approximately 6 months and it is well worn already!

Dr. Edward Bach, a skilled homeopathic physician, developed his own theory about the cause of disease. Dr. Bach believed that physical diseases begin as an imbalance in the patient's emotional well-being. By attending to emotions and weeding out harmful emotions from the patient's psyche, a healing trend can be initiated that assists the patient in avoiding future physical diseases. Treating emotional states addresses diseases while they are still at the energy level. Dr. Bach believed that the flower essences could even be helpful once disease had progressed to a physical manifestation. The flower essences do not replace other treatments such as homeopathy, but they can assist other treatments by soothing the patient's mental condition and initiating preliminary steps towards healing the imbalance that led to the disease in the first place.

This book is filled with wonderful information that the beginner can use to learn to use the flower essences to heal themselves and others. It is the basic text and everyone who is interested in flower essences should have this text regardless of what other texts they own as well. Bach thoroughly explains his theory on the source of disease and then each flower essence is examined, one by one, showing the emotional profile of the patient who would most benefit from each remedy.

The system is very simple and can be learned easily by the layman but it is very effective -- only 38 remedies cover the entirety of negative human emotions! Dr. Bach insisted that the flower essences be kept simple because he believed that their simplicity was a key factor of their effectiveness. Treating one's self and others with flower essences is simple to learn but it is also an art that one will spend the rest of their lifetime developing and perfecting.

Contains Dr. Bach's priceless gem!

I've just read Body Electronics. Wow, this book is solid gold. From the first sentence on the first page all the way to the last paragraph of the last chapter we get magnificent insights and miraculous possibilities, each one built up from solid foundations of scientific fact and careful observation. Everything in clear, rational, step by step bites. Nothing has been dumbed down or skipped over, just clarified and made wonderfully real. His take on the whys and hows of supporting health by eating living foods is especially powerful for me as I've tried in the past and failed. I've already gone raw again. This time I'm gonna win. If you want to be "honest to God" healed, or just want to find out how real healing works, and why, this one's for you. But this great read, as amazing as it is, is just the beginning.

A friend just went though what they call an "intensive" with the author, Thomas C. Chavez. Three days of straight Body Electronics overseen by the master of the form. Awesome miracles for everyone there! I'm taking on the recommendations in the book as my lifestyle, and look forward to joining a Body Electronics group as soon as one forms where I live.

Best Book I've ever read!

'Body Electronics', by Thomas Chavez, is a masterful work about healing, I dare say the best I have ever read. I am currently working toward my Doctorate in the field of Natural Health and have an extensive library of books on Natural Healing that I have spent more than 30 years pouring through with fascination. But, I now see that vast groundwork of prior information as a mere launch pad for the veritable space shuttle of knowledge that Chavez perfectly engineers and ignites into countdown in 'Body Electronics'.

Chavez was a student of John Ray, the brilliant healer who devised the original Body Electronics modality which was based on Ray's extensive research and experimentation with miraculous cures. It is a synergy of techniques with an emphasis on organic, chelated, colloidal mineral supplementation, enzyme intake and 'pointholding' which is a leap beyond accupuncture and accupressure with the goal of thoroughly dissolving the tiny bundles of crytals that form energy blockages and contribute to disease and discomfort on many levels.

Chavez pays admirable homage to Ray, having internalized his teachings completely, while leveraging his own extensive research, training, and experience in the world of Natural Healing as a classically trained Homeopath. He pulls together a vast and diverse body of knowledge that represents his very best attempt at formulating an ultimate healing protocol and lifestyle. Based on all the information I have personally been exposed to through my own passionate studies and practices, this 'very best attempt' is the very best I've ever encountered, beautifully and comprehensively communicated!

As soon as I received this book from Amazon.com, I opened up the book randomly to a paragraph about the healing effect of a Niacin flush on skin injuries such as bad sunburns experienced in one's youth. I then flipped to another random page and read about "blotting" one's teeth, a technique superior to brushing which very effectively cleans your teeth. I flipped to another part regarding the effects of herbs and herbal "remedies", then read about the success of a program that improves one's eyesight naturally, then I scanned through a collection of practical exercises and techniques for manifesting our intended goals that really made sense to me.

Another random flip had me reading about "holding time", an interaction between a parent and child that allows a child's stressful emotions and anger to de-fuse naturally in a circle of acceptance and love, encouraging a lifetime of natural, authentic, healthy emotional responses without all the ills that come from chronic emotional suppression through punishment and subtle guilt and control trips as most of us have experienced as the Western 'norm' in parenting.

I was only a few minutes into my preliminary explorations of Body Electronics and I was already completely inundated with fascinating new information I had never before encountered! I turned to my husband and exclaimed, "I'm SO glad I got this book!" Elegantly expressed concepts gave rise to instant insights, and I found myself already unraveling personal pain and suppression that sprang from my own childhood just as it did for my parents and grandparents.

This book draws on Chavez's many years of living and practicing Body Electronics, which he very effectively shares with his readers, so that they too can see their way to working out their own, constantly evolving cure, which in turn positively effects all within their sphere. Chavez is richly generous with his knowledge, obviously tapping into the mindset of his intended readership and presenting his case with clarity and inspiration. He hands us a pragmatic and usable roadmap for our own personal journey to perfect health, without excluding anyone by being overly spiritual or to far "out there". The more I studied the illustrative examples, the more I began to understand the finer points of the healing process, the multiple, sequential levels of vitality and it's opposite, the levels of consciousness that set the tone for our overall level of health, and the dangerous business of unaccepting attitudes and suppression of symptoms.

As I began the fascinating journey of reading the book cover to cover, I was delighted by Chavez's truly artful way of inviting the reader to look, really look, at many of the basic agreements that we as humans unwittingly buy into from birth. He points out the "Off-Management" behaviors we have inherited, all the ways we ineffectively deal with life's challenges, from the way we parent, to the way we eat, to the way we express emotions and deal with stress, to how we navigate tricky family, group and societal dynamics. Then he offers "On-Management" methods and techniques that have proven very effective, whole ways of thinking that had never occurred to me before. I have seen many authors attempt to describe similar concepts, but the way Thomas Chavez has put it all together rings true and clear. Reading this book was truly a life changing experience, a real gift!

Personal Experience with Body Electronics

I was discouraged and every activity felt like drudgery. In my early 60s I had developed peripheral neuropathy in my feet and they hurt all of the time. Walking three or four blocks would bring excruciating pain that would last several days. I was taking the maximum level of prescription medication that my doctor would allow. The neurologist said that my feet would continue to get worse unless a miracle drug was found, but nothing hopeful was in view.

Quite by accident-or so it seemed three years ago-I heard of a seminar on the subject of Body Electronics being offered by Thomas Chavez. Having no interest in the subject beyond idle curiosity, I decided to attend. Following the seminar, I decided to become active in a local Body Electronics group. Nothing in my previous life experience had prepared me for the profound physical, emotional and mental changes that would take place and for the enthusiasm for living that would become mine. Today, at age 66, I would not trade this quality of life for anything I have previously known.

After two years of "BE" I returned to mountain climbing, cross-country skiing and mountain biking. I no longer take any of the prescription medications that my doctor recommends. Contrary to conventional medicine (and some alternative therapies) Body Electronics is free of financial burden, but is not free of the need to continuously update one's education. Body Electronics by Thomas Chavez is a wonderful source of practical information about what really makes a difference in our lives. I am most thankful to have this book close at hand.

Compelling story of an alternative therapy success

I found this book insightful and inspirational. Randy's writing style was right on the mark. This is a very personal story and journey.

So many books written about alternative therapies today are heavy-handed and decidedly one-sided against modern medicine.

Randy takes a lighter tact. He tells the story of how he and his wife were slowly "pushed" into alternative methods due to allopathic medicines' inability to find the upstream cause of his wife's condition and the continuing pattern of "handoffs" from one allopathic practitioner to another.

I find them both courageous. It's hard to put your life in someone's hands when that someone isn't a doctor. We're taught from young that doctors are the final frontier when something ails the body.

But Randy and his wife weren't looking for PhDs and wall plaques, they were looking for answers to a condition that took much of his wife's vitality and nearly killed her on several occasions.

One of the best books I've read - I couldn't put it down.

nothing else like it ever written!

I am a medical physician. I have purchased and perused scores of well-written books put out by experienced practitioners for other health professionals. Many of them have proved quite useful. None however has given me the sense of what it is like to be the bewildered patient who has just seen a dozen primary care and specialist physicians for a steadily worsening condition, and now does not know where to turn. This book does. I work in an Emergency Department. I see a number of people there, frequently at odd hours, who arrive searching for answers we are hard-pressed to give them there. I think they come to us because they simply don't know where else to turn. Unlike the nicely worked-out treatment guidelines we learn in medical school, there is no clear protocol for those who "fail" our allopathic therapies. And, this is at a time when so many need so much more than what we are presently trained to offer. Diagnosis Unknown explores the actual experience of what it is like to be young, previously healthy, suddenly ill and steadily declining, and with not even a medical diagnosis (let alone medical therapy) in sight. Imagine having already seen every available medical specialist relevant to your condition, and steadily getting worse. Where would you then turn? Massage? Radionics? Acupuncture? Electrodermal screening? This book takes the reader through all of these, and quite a bit more. It is such a handy experiential guide that I have been recommending it to patients and colleagues alike.

This book gives an incredible insight into both conventional and alternative medicine. Although the subject is very serivous the author turns it into a humourous mystery novel.

I have recommended this book to over 20 people and without exception they report back that they couldn't put it down. Most people say they read it in one sitting or in 2 to 3 days.

This is a fascinating story, which confirmed many of my doubts about conventional medicine and opened up a whole new world of integrative medicine to me and my friends. I loaned this book to several friends that had cancer or other undiagnosed diseases and it made a difference in each of their lives. Not only is the subject matter of great importance, but as a bonus the book was very easy to read and very entertaining

This book reads like a detective novel.

When I started to read this book I had no idea I would be awake at 2:00am unable to put it down. It is written with the sense of suspense that a who-done-it has. I am a health care professional and although I have a great deal of respect for "modern" medicine, I have all too often witnessed patients made worse by our interventions. I so enjoyed the self disclosure that the author brings to his writing. The reader can readily identify with the search and sympathize with Linda in her desperate illness. The book has given me a great reading list and opened my eyes to methods of diagnosis and treatment that I would never have known about. I also appreciate the direct voice that the author uses - very clear - not on a soap box - simply sharing their adventure. It would be easy, considering their experience, to use this book to vent their collective spleens at the medical community. The battles between the AMA, et al. and alternative medicine were reported factualy without added fuel, allowing for the reader to absorb the information and make up his or her own mind. I recommend this book very highly for anyone who desires to take charge of their health and would like to share how a delightful and charming couple managed to take charge of theirs.

This book is very useful for preventative measures. It makes you think about how your body talks and reveals the weaknesses years before problems appear. If one has the courage to follow its suggestions, then one has a chance not to become a statistic of cancer, heart disease or diabetes.

This book is very helpful book in observing imbalances in the body before the onset of a serious disease. It could also be helpful in realizing chronic imbalances that were left untreated for a long period of time.

I would highly recommend this book for everyone -- especially parents.

Facial Diagnosis Of Cell Salts Deficiencies: A User's Guide.

This is a wonderful book, (I guess this is what I think). What I mean is now when I look at anyone's face or I, myself in the mirror, I can see just how deficient all of us are. Hmmm, did I need to know this?
Well, actually the answer is yes, and so should everyone else know this information. The pictures are the most revealing and the written guide is easy to follow.
I recommend this book to all who care about themselves, family and friends.

This is a very practical book for those just starting to use the contemporary healing method of homeopathy. As well it will be welcomed by lay homeopathic study groups around the English speaking world. Instructional. Well Organized. Ready to teach you how. Once you know you want to learn how, this is the best place to start your study.

As one begins to learn the homeopathic methodology, repertorising is a difficult, if not ominous endeavor. This book helps to sort out the many nuances of old, and clarify much of the "older" jargon. This puts the learning curve back in the present! I have utilized this book extensively in my studies with the British Institute of Homeopathy. I recommend it highly!

Most homeopathic books aimed at the layperson focus on acute prescribing in homeopathy. Even though this book is aimed at beginning homeopaths, it is accessible and understandable to the layperson, and can help to understand constitutional prescribing. It will enable you to work with your homeopath to find the similimum for you and your family members (because you understand what he/she is trying to accomplish and you can contribute meaningfully) .

I have only worked through the first two chapters of the book, and I can't believe how much I have learnt.
