This street guide was published by a Colorado company and I was very impressed with all of the maps and information on them. Also these maps seemed to be very accurate. They also listed streets that may not be found on other maps including some that have been updated recently. In addition the index of such things as schools, hospitals, attractions, and streets was very nice.

Magical chronicle of a Magical Season.

Kudo's to the Denver Post for this great conversation piece!

The cover picture of Todd Helton celebrating the Rockies clinching the MLB National League Championship at Coor Field (with Eric Byrnes eating the dust... and his words, flat on his face at first base)is worth the price alone.

It captures the magic of going 13-1 to end the regular season, followed by a 7-0 entry into the playoffs... definitely a magical season... and all captured here.

Yes, kudos to the Red Sox and their faithful fans, who swept the Rox in the Fall Classic, and that is captured in this book as well... but the focus is on how a team in 4th place intheir own division as late as September 16th, 2007... made a solid run of the ages to capture the imagination of sports lovers everywhere. Great book, great pictures, and a great documentary of the events by the Post staff as the unbelievable events unfolded.

Incredible story, beautifully written

The Mantle Ranch still exists within the boundaries of Dinosaur National Monument, a monument itself to the Mantle family and their times, both joyful and hard, in "Hell's Canyon," on the beautiful Yampa River in Colorado. Queeda Mantle Walker, the only daughter among the five Mantle offspring, vividly describes the lives of her parents and siblings in this remote, isolated valley with verve, humor, and love. While the tale takes place in the first half of the 20th century, it is reminiscent of the 19th century due to its location: No road, no telephone, no electricity, no plumbing, a dirt floor, and five babies to rear. This is the quintessential story of the American West, and I recommend it highly. I'm giving it 5 stars despite a few minor quibbles such as changing unexpectedly from third person to first; the quality of the telling of the story is that good.

I'm impressed by this local history. It is comprehensive, readable, and illustrated. Marble, CO supposedly had (and has) deposits of the greatest marble in the world. Yet by the middle of the 20th century, it was effectively a ghost town. This book answers why. Includes over 40 pages of bibliographic information and appendices.

The Marshal's Destiny by C. H. Admirand

Hats off! Two thumbs up and six stars to this book, The Marshal's Destiny. If you have yet to read it, believe me you will not be disappointed. A mind tingling, heart melting sensation that will indeed have you on the edge of your seat. Honest edge of your seat drama. It was like I was sitting in front of a big screen watching all the action. When Maggie had to drive the stagecoach when Seth was injured and her thoughts turned to Joshua when she whispered his name, it was awesome! The way they were almost miles apart from each other yet so close was incredible. It was like you were cheering, no turn here or go there and you will find each other. Then when Joshua thought of Maggie in the arms of another when he saw her being greeted by another man, my heart melted. Not to mention he didn't come to be sociable and she cornered him the same way. I can't say enough about this book! Joshua and Maggie, I will never forget. A must read! I am so glad that I bought it! This was an incredible love story. I want to read more of the brothers and others in the book and hope they perhaps have their own series down the road. This book was absolutely captivating! Ida and her husband and all of the characters were a family that sticks in your mind after you have finished the last page.
Again hats off to Ms. Admirand. I noticed that Jeffrey J. Faville did the cover illustration and design on this one too. (He also did the one for Maggie's Mistake). He does excellent cover illustration and designs.

Melinda lives with her sister, Aunt, and Uncle. Melinda goes out west for her sister's wedding. But what they don't know that a big surprise is waiting for them there. Melinda is very funny. Beatty did a good job of making it feel as if you were there. It was very hard to stop reading the book. I found myself laughing and crying with Melinda. It is one of my most favorite books of all time.

The Day After

Review Date: 2006-03-19
This beautifully crafted book is very rare; only 70 handmade copies were printed at The Press at Colorado College, and I own one of them. the story is a rather ribald tale of Nawlins on the day after Mardi Gras, as told by a college student reveler. Most, if not all students or former students, can relate in some manner to the unfolding events in this slim but poignant volume. The hand made paper and original calligraphy make this a very special little book for the serious collector.
