This book is wonderful. These are similar to the questions asked on the registry exams. Not only do they give you the answer to the pretests, but they provide references to the subject so you can read about it to further your understanding. This is the best investment I have made!

Advanced Practitioner Exam Review for Respiratory Care

This exam review text is well researched. It is very thorough in its content, following the format of the National Board for Respiratory Care's national exam. The book is divided into components for pre-testing without prior review, into review by specific areas of practice, and into the "real" exam, followed by in-depth explanations of the basis for the correctly keyed answers. Such an approach has been very helpful in preparing graduates of two year Respiratory Care programs for successful passing of the advanced national exam. As an instructor of Respiratory Care, I find this book to be more rigorous than the exam itself. While this book's exam questions are not the exact questons as administered by the national testing agency, they more than adequately represent the content of the exam. This very specialized book belongs in the hands of serious national exam candidates.

A most valuable resource for all with an interest in Eczema

Review Date: 2000-05-03
This is an extremely useful resource for anyone seeking clear and up-to-date information about Atopic Eczema. Although the title mentions Practitioners, the style and content are accessible to the lay reader. Early chapters look concisely yet comprehensively at the factors contributing to atopic skin disease. This material provides much interesting background understanding. The latest thinking about the various treatment approaches is discussed, and the latter part of the book deals with a 'habit reversal' approach which the authors have pioneered and which works well to augment the efficacy of a treatment regime. The tone of the book is positive and friendly. For anyone wishing to look a little further into atopic eczema and its management this book is invaluable.

For anyone wishing to gain a good understanding of the factors contributing to atopic skin disease and its management, this is a most useful resource. Early chapters examine the nature of atopic eczema and factors which contribute to it. The latest thinking on approaches to treatment are covered, and the latter part of the book details a 'habit reversal' approach pioneered with much success by the authors, which contributes to an effective and lasting treatment regime. Although the title mentions practitioners, the style and content are accessible by the lay reader. The tone is friendly and positive. This book contains a great wealth of useful information which will contribute enormously to the understanding of anyone with a serious interest in atopic eczema. I recommend it very strongly.

A great book for clincians and all others who treat or manage pain.

According to Dr. Steven D. Passik, PhD from Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, "this work brings it all together for the practitioner, on the ground, in the clinic, taking care of the complex people in this world with chronic pain. This book provides a know-how to do it safely, avoiding contributing to drug abuse and diversion." As a former Representative and District Manager for a company that promotes a chronic pain medication, I believe that "Avoiding Opioid Abuse, While Managing Pain" is a book that should be read and utilized by all those faced with the challenge of treating pain. It touches on issues that clinicians struggle with every day, such as: legal issues involved with opioid prescribing, risk factors for opioid abuse and clarifying terms like tolerance, physical dependence, abuse and addiction. Dr. Webster presents the reader with tools which help to assess patients that may be at risk for opioid abuse such as ORT "Opioids Risk Tool" or SOAPP. He also provides insights into how to monitor patients to minimize opioid abuse by looking at outcomes such as: pain relief, psychosocial functioning, side effects of treatment, and addiction related outcomes. Chronic Pain is a growing problem and yet in many cases goes undertreated due to fear and a lack of training, and knowledge from those in the trenches treating such patients. This book fills in those gaps of education and training and provides the practitioner with the know-how and confidence needed to tackle the abuse and diversion associated with prescribing opioids and ensure that the same medications are available for the patients who greatly benefit from them. I enjoyed reading this book and believe that it will give all those treating pain the confidence needed to manage such patients and restore some degree of function to their lives.

This book gives good insight into the world of teaching and how the differences we perceive as teachers are some of the same differences our students face in the learning process. It opens your eyes to understanding your role as a teacher and how the stereotypes we bring with us may affect our effectiveness as teachers. I recommend this book to everyone trying to understand how to effectively teach a diversity of students to reach their full potential.

I think that racism is an almost impossible subject to tackle; but if there is a good reason to go through it - it is our future, the kids. These two authors struggle with the issues and come to some important understanding. If you really want to understand it and if you need a powerful reason to struggle with it. This book will help you do it.

I have no medical background or plans for a medical career, but I love
and value this book. I use it as a constant reference and am also reading
it in its entirety, as it is alive, real and straightforward. Dr. Robinson's personal
anecdotes from his vast experience add much to his explanations and make
the complicated world of medicine much easier to understand. He obviously
has taken great care in his presentation and put much thought into writing
this concise and well-organized textbook, one that I also believe can serve
as a lay person's general medical reference.

BIOMEDICINE is an informative text written in an easy to understand style by an insightful former surgeon. When I want an encapsulation of Western medicine's take regarding a patient's health condition, this is the first book to which I turn. I have on occasion sent a grateful patient home with an excerpt from BIOMEDICINE because it so clearly describes their medical diagnosis in language anyone can comprehend. I've even recommended that my TCM alma mater consider adopting this textbook for their Western Medicine classes. This book has elevated my professional standard by allowing me to collaborate intelligently with MD's. Dr. Robinson knows how "both sides" think - he is uniquely qualified to write about truly integrated medicine.

Brief Intervention for School Problems: Collaborating for P

As a student looking to become a high school guidance counselor, I found this to be one of the best texts from both a practical and educational point of view.

It focuses on the real issue of counseling, how to meet the needs of the client. Each explanation is backed by popular theories, yet the focus remains solution based.

The key to the book is how to be a catalyst in change utilizing the client's perspective of the problem. The authors have done a wonderful job of explaining the school practitioner's role as a catalyst, or an instrument of change.

Too often, I believe counselors try to fit the client into a preconceived box of neurosis. In fact, this book counters that train of thought and shows the reader how to address the client's problem as a unique opportunity to enable the client to find his/her own solution.

I highly recommend this book to students, practicing counselors, parents and teachers.

Practical, clear and inspirational.

If you work with children and adolescents and also wish to apply solution-focused thinking to the school context you must read this book. Each page offers highly practical and clear to understand ideas. Incredibly, I would say that it appeals equally to the novice and experienced solution-focused worker. Excellent indeed. Furthermore, John Murphy's workshop presentation, based on the content of the book, is an unmissable experience, worth attending.
