A wealth of wisdom and of techniqueReview Date: 2003-01-07
Walter Lubeck , a Reiki Master and author of several books, including The Complete Reiki Handbook, Reiki--Way of the Heart, and others, is the founder and director of the Reiki-Do Institute. He has developed rainbow reiki as a means of incorporating additional alternative healing modalities, such as channelling, astral travel, reiki essences, and others, into synergistic combination with reiki healing. As a synergism of the parts, this expanded reiki method promises to supply the practitioner with a wide range of potent techniques.
Most Reiki practitioners will probably feel quite comfortable within the world of Rainbow Reiki. Lubeck is quite thorough in detailing both the history of Usui reiki and the development of rainbow reiki. The prerequisites for performing the techniques he offers are explained in great detail. As the reader moves forward through the text, she will find chapter after chapter rich with techniques, ranging from aura and crystal techniques to uses of mandalas and power vortices...and much, much more. Perhaps few will be able or inclined to use or master all that is offered in this book; but everyone is sure to come away from reading it with at least a few new practices to add to their repertoire.
The difficulties with Rainbow Reiki are minimal. Stylistically, Rainbow Reiki is written in a somewhat dry, academic tone that some readers may find difficult to endure. Nonetheless, perseverence will reap rewards for the diligent reader. The only other point of issue is that Reiki I practitioners may feel left out since most of the practices of the book are specifically directed for use by more advanced reiki practitioners. This need not be the case, however, if the Reiki I reader uses this book to spur them on to advancement to higher levels and as a means of familiarizing themselves with some of the practices that await them as they advance.
In conclusion, Rainbow Reiki, though moderately difficult to read, is well worth the effort for the sheer wealth of techniques so extensively explained in its pages. Few, if any, other books are available to explore the world of reiki and specifically rainbow reiki in such breadth and depth

great qigong manualReview Date: 2006-02-16
This book is clearly written, fun to read, and packed full of good info. The only caution would be that I would not recommend it for beginners; I think that many of the practices are outside the beginning level ability to feel what all those metaphors are talking about. It is a supurb text for those who have some level of development-- this is the difference between high school and 300 level college credits.
All things said and done, this is the best book on the subject matter I have ever read. For better beginning texts, I would check out "opening the energy gates of your body" by B.K. Frantzis, and "the way of energy."
A book for Cultivation of Sexual Energy and Much MoreReview Date: 2004-10-29
The book covers some basic practices from Taoist Alchemy such as Six Healing Sounds, Microcosmic Orbit, Inner Smile and some forms of breathing before proceeding with sexual practices. The book also includes the practices related to the Fusion of the Five Elements, Bone Marrow and Standing Chi Kung.
Brilliant !Review Date: 2000-09-18
Just an advice - the book may be used by beginners, but I recommend potential practitioners to start with the "100 Days" book by the author. The Golden Flower will make things REALLY work.

warriors ehould also healReview Date: 2002-02-02
In response to the comments made by James RamholzReview Date: 2000-02-18
He is correct in stating that all of the herbal formulas used in this book were taken from other sources that are readily available on Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, all of the sources for formulas used were written by professional Chinese medical practitioners for Chinese medical practitioners. Meaning, they were highly confusing to the layman. The purpose of writing the book the Warrior as Healer was to introduce herbal formulas to martial artists in a comprehensive informative and user-friendly fashion, it was not written for other medical professionals.
All of the formulas in the book were offered in their original traditional forms. Mr. Ramholz's comments about a particular ingredient (Zhu Sha) or cinnabar while true, have only come to light subsequent to the writing of this book. I might add that I share his concerns and agree that Zhu Sha can be left out of the formulas without compromising the efficacy of the formula.
In the last 2 years it has been my experience that once the toxicity of Zhu Sha was confirmed, the great majority of Chinese herb shops no longer sell this particular ingredient.
As for the comment regarding Hu Gu/tiger bone I devoted a chapter to the discussion of this ingredient, going into detail about the pros and cons of using tiger bone and other animal by-products.
The only divergence of opinion appears to occur with his recommending the substitution of raccoon and pig gallbladder for bear's gallbladder. My personal position and the general policy of my Chinese herb company (Treasures From the Sea of Chi) is that I reject the killing of any animal for harvesting organs and body parts without exception.

An okay selection with some important cautions.Review Date: 2000-02-14
The most important caution is the prohibition of the use of cinnabar, a mercury compound, for internal formulas. It should never be used in any herbal formulas by amatuers because of its well-known toxicity. Even highly processed cinnabar will contain traces of mercury; extended use will increase the exposure. It can simply be left out of the formulas in the book without much loss of efficacy.
The use of real Tiger bone besides being unethical would also be prohibitively expensive. The Chinese always substitute other animal bones (horse, dog, ox, among others). Some modern herbal practitioners have even used a combination of Calicium citrate and magnesium citrate. While none of the substitutions are that close in energy to real Tiger bone, they can be functional substitutions.
The same problems extend to the unethical use of Bear gallbladder. Substitutions such as racoon gallbladder, pig gallbladder, or commericially available bile sales may be used. And, again, while not the same energy as Bear gallbladder, they are ethical and functional substitutions.
Outside of these cautions, the book presents a nice mixture of classical, unique, and patent herbal formulas that have been used for hundreds of years. It makes a good starting place for martial artists who are interested but unfamiliar with herbal medicines.

Great Book - A One Stop ShopReview Date: 2002-02-06
While doing my Thesis I contacted Master Shaw. He was so nice and talked to me indepth about meditation and how it can become a natural evolution of the martial arts. He possesses a vast amount of knowledge on this subject, which is apparent in this book. I believe this book truly adds a new chapter to the martial arts.
One of the things I like most about this book is that it does not solely reference the martial artist, or "Spiritual Warrior" as Scott Shaw details all of us to be as, "He" or "Him." It also intermingles "She" or "Her" with this delineation. When speaking to Master Shaw he told me that this was not his idea, nor was it the way he had written the book. It was something done by the editors. None the less, I think this interchangable style is great. It acknowledges and gives power to us ladies, something most books on the martial arts never do.
Overall, I believe this to be an important work on breaking down the barriers of the traditional macho male dominated martial arts and taking them to the level where they can be embraced by the more spiritually inclined among us.

Like Sand Between the FingersReview Date: 2002-01-31
The mixing and mingling of feminine and masculine pronouns assigned to 'the warrior' throughout the text made the reading...inconsistent and strangely difficult. There is no doubt that both men and women are/can be warriors, and I think the writing would have been more fluent if Shaw had just made that point, chose one pronoun, and stuck to it.
Shaw displays his opinions upon the spiritual path to the martial arts very well, but I think that he forgot to stay open to the idea that there is more than one way to skin a cat. When reading this book it sounds as if you are doing everything wrong if not following the path he is documenting, and I strongly disagree. To put it more poetically, "There are many paths up the mountain, but only one peak".
Sprirituality is a difficult subject to write about. It is like sand - when a person tries to take hold of it in a physical manner it simply slips through the fist. I bought this book looking for a truly spiritual text, and was disappointed to find yet another picture filled manual on the martial arts. Shaw's effort is to be commended, but I'm affraid that in his attempt to convey something very esoteric the sand slipped between his fingers.

shows this attribute in her work "Complete Earthly Woman."
In this tender read she takes you through
exercises that help you learn about yourself and your needs. She takes you step by step through exercises that allows you to release stress, speak peace and learn to become the woman you so long to be.
There are many avenues that we seek to bring us fulfillment. For some it is deep commitment to their faith, not all things are right for each person. We all must find what works the best for us.
The author gives you another avenue to explore that perhaps will help you find that inward peace. A very interesting read!

The Soundest Energy-Healing Book AroundReview Date: 2004-04-19
If you are looking to really get into your energy system and experience it - I would advice this book as the soundest energy healing text around. It is entertaining, wise, and easy to use. The exercise using triangles with a release stage led me into the first experience of my primal anger - detached from cause. I felt it sweeping out from me and upwards. It was a genuine release from the sacral area and after that came great calm.
As an introduction it is great. As a set of extra techniques for healers it is profound. And Jim is a good guy. You can write to him by e-mail with questions and he responds.
Let's hope the sequel is coming soon!

DisempoweringReview Date: 2008-07-29
His book is in fact mostly a manual of sessions he had with his patients, a very little part is devoted to the explanation per se. He goes on and on and on transcribing his sessions, we read the symptoms, but the cause or the true constitution of an "entity" is never made clear. It remains a mystery, and what is even more frustrating is that he affirms that no one can free you of these "entities" (???) except himself or his followers/practitioners.
And moreover, in the rare cases where he is not transcribing, he is just reciting what others (Chinese and other cultures) have to say about this.
In short, and according to him, any energy blockage, any - I dare say - symptom related to serious mental disorders like schizophrenia for example, will, to him, be classified as an "entity" that "speaks", and what is even more frustrating is that he affirms that you can catch these entities anywhere and at any point in your life, especially if you go into hospital to give birth for example.
This is a DISEMPOWERING book. I definitely do not recommend it.

Practical informationReview Date: 2000-02-03
Through concise documentatin of case studies he clearly outlines how to find them and what types of effects that result in ones energy and mind due to their intrusion. He also discusses the mechanisms by which they got there in the first place.
In his book, it appears that these little parasties of our body of energy are not easy to get, but once in there and observed, can be easily removed by a qualified entity clearer.
A fascinating read into the entity phenomenum....

This book used to be titled Freedom from Judgment and reading it will give you a whole new insight into how the world and life really look without the clouding lens of judgment. You will experience a new way of seeing yourself and the people around you. You will also never look at crime and justice the same way.
I highly, highly, highly recommend this book to anyone. If you ever might have a stressful situation or a relationship problem or you want to understand why your life is the way it is, you NEED this book. It's truly one of those rare books that will dramatically change your life.

A "How-To" Book for Renewing One's LifeReview Date: 2006-07-25
This required no great leaps of faith on my part. He helped me build a new paradigm about meaning and purpose in one's life, and gently offered the "how-to"s I could put into practice with amazing results. Yes, it took some courage to let go of my past patterns dealing with day-to-day issues. But as I did, the results were worth every ounce of effort a hundredfold. I have given this book to many friends who have observed my calmer and happier countenance and questioned me about it.

I took Reiki I & II locally and, after much practice and healing, went on to become a Master myself. Now I recommend the book to those who show an interest in, and who want to know more about, Reiki before committing time and money to become trained in Reiki.
An excellent recource. Thank you, Mari.

Beyond these foundational precepts, Rainbow Reiki system includes a variety of additional resources. Some of the most interesting aspects of this work included in depth information on aura and chakra work; the layouts of environmental or crystal mandalas; how to work with subtle beings; and the use of Reiki essences. It should be noted that this work is not a complete course guide for Rainbow Reiki. Instead, this text serves as a way to deepen the meaning and expand upon these original teachings.
Although not trained or attuned to this particular system of Reiki, I found Rainbow Reiki to be a very useful resource and pertinent to my own light work. Likely, this is due to the fact that I have been trained in the foundations of other Usui based traditions. Thus, I have no qualms about recommending this book to anyone with traditional Reiki training.
