Rainbow Reiki

Rainbow Reiki is based upon the tradition form of Reiki, from the Usui System of teaching. Thus, the basic precepts, teachings, and attunements from this system are essentially the same as virtually any other Usui Reiki based system.

Beyond these foundational precepts, Rainbow Reiki system includes a variety of additional resources. Some of the most interesting aspects of this work included in depth information on aura and chakra work; the layouts of environmental or crystal mandalas; how to work with subtle beings; and the use of Reiki essences. It should be noted that this work is not a complete course guide for Rainbow Reiki. Instead, this text serves as a way to deepen the meaning and expand upon these original teachings.

Although not trained or attuned to this particular system of Reiki, I found Rainbow Reiki to be a very useful resource and pertinent to my own light work. Likely, this is due to the fact that I have been trained in the foundations of other Usui based traditions. Thus, I have no qualms about recommending this book to anyone with traditional Reiki training.

This book finally brings together a real way to use many tools of healing while giving a Reiki treatment. I highly recommened it to my Reiki students who are on a healing path. It is easy to read. It lets us realize how simple and easy it is to be a healer when our own ego is not involved.

This book by Lubeck is great. Those of us that know little about Shamanism are sure to be trilled with the innovative techniques that Lubeck offers. Since the beggining of the book Lubeck gives out warnings in the matter of practicing the techniques and outlines every single one of them step by step so that any body with the minimal qualifications may practice them, outlining this kind of techniques is a big responsability and Lubeck stays at the heigth of the situation. It may be a little hard for those not used to reading academic books but is still a blast for your Reiki practice. All those that have read and use some of those techniques will agree with me that this book is a must have for any Reiki Master.

A wealth of wisdom and of technique

Rainbow Reiki by Walter Lubeck sets forth with the intent, according to the subtitle, of "expanding the reiki system with powerful spiritual abilities." This amazingly short, at 175 pages, text extensively explores the vast expanse of rainbow reiki technique and application. This thorough examination of the topic will prove beneficial to the reader with only minimal difficulty.

Walter Lubeck , a Reiki Master and author of several books, including The Complete Reiki Handbook, Reiki--Way of the Heart, and others, is the founder and director of the Reiki-Do Institute. He has developed rainbow reiki as a means of incorporating additional alternative healing modalities, such as channelling, astral travel, reiki essences, and others, into synergistic combination with reiki healing. As a synergism of the parts, this expanded reiki method promises to supply the practitioner with a wide range of potent techniques.

Most Reiki practitioners will probably feel quite comfortable within the world of Rainbow Reiki. Lubeck is quite thorough in detailing both the history of Usui reiki and the development of rainbow reiki. The prerequisites for performing the techniques he offers are explained in great detail. As the reader moves forward through the text, she will find chapter after chapter rich with techniques, ranging from aura and crystal techniques to uses of mandalas and power vortices...and much, much more. Perhaps few will be able or inclined to use or master all that is offered in this book; but everyone is sure to come away from reading it with at least a few new practices to add to their repertoire.

The difficulties with Rainbow Reiki are minimal. Stylistically, Rainbow Reiki is written in a somewhat dry, academic tone that some readers may find difficult to endure. Nonetheless, perseverence will reap rewards for the diligent reader. The only other point of issue is that Reiki I practitioners may feel left out since most of the practices of the book are specifically directed for use by more advanced reiki practitioners. This need not be the case, however, if the Reiki I reader uses this book to spur them on to advancement to higher levels and as a means of familiarizing themselves with some of the practices that await them as they advance.

In conclusion, Rainbow Reiki, though moderately difficult to read, is well worth the effort for the sheer wealth of techniques so extensively explained in its pages. Few, if any, other books are available to explore the world of reiki and specifically rainbow reiki in such breadth and depth

Castaneda goes Reiki

As I wrote in the title - Castaneda goes Reiki - and this is simply put Shamanism combined with Reiki. Here you'll find descriptions of how to create and communicate with power places and spirits, and how to use Reiki for paintings, how to make the author's Reiki essences and his opinions on how to use crystals and pendulums in different ways with Reiki. There's not much "new" or revolutionary ideas in this book, but you'll definitely get a nice and entertaining moment of reading. The book will in the best cases awaken your old, forgotten and hidden knowledges and in the worst cases you'll fall asleep since there are some pointers and warnings that is repeated which seems a little bit unnecessary.

As a long time practitioner of qigong, I have never been a fan of Mantak Chia's work; I found his books to be too scattered, and difficult to piece together. Yudelove manages to take Chia's system, and not only make it understandable, but also make it safe by adding the element of timing and systematic practice.

This book is clearly written, fun to read, and packed full of good info. The only caution would be that I would not recommend it for beginners; I think that many of the practices are outside the beginning level ability to feel what all those metaphors are talking about. It is a supurb text for those who have some level of development-- this is the difference between high school and 300 level college credits.

All things said and done, this is the best book on the subject matter I have ever read. For better beginning texts, I would check out "opening the energy gates of your body" by B.K. Frantzis, and "the way of energy."

Erick Yudelove has been a student of Mantak Chia. He has put together a manual for practice that encompasses the information that could be found in Mantak Chia's books, but is further enhanced, clarified and perhaps simplified by Yudelove's own discoveries.

The book covers some basic practices from Taoist Alchemy such as Six Healing Sounds, Microcosmic Orbit, Inner Smile and some forms of breathing before proceeding with sexual practices. The book also includes the practices related to the Fusion of the Five Elements, Bone Marrow and Standing Chi Kung.

This is a unique book, a step-by-step tutor to higher levels of Taoist Spiritual Alchemy given in a systematic way. The final God and Goddess exercise is the best technique I have come across - yet it appears as a result from all 14 weeks' exercises woven into an extremely efficient method which puts us in contact with higher forces of the Universe. The books seems like a summary of Mantak Chia's reachings, but in fact it is not. It is a real breakthough.

Just an advice - the book may be used by beginners, but I recommend potential practitioners to start with the "100 Days" book by the author. The Golden Flower will make things REALLY work.

There is so much info and history and understanding in this book, that I can confidently recommend it to any of my Nei Gung or Nei Jia friends or students. Presented more like a workbook than a book makes this book a great training tool. No need to say more.

After reading the review by James Ramholz, I'd like to make a few comments.

He is correct in stating that all of the herbal formulas used in this book were taken from other sources that are readily available on Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, all of the sources for formulas used were written by professional Chinese medical practitioners for Chinese medical practitioners. Meaning, they were highly confusing to the layman. The purpose of writing the book the Warrior as Healer was to introduce herbal formulas to martial artists in a comprehensive informative and user-friendly fashion, it was not written for other medical professionals.

All of the formulas in the book were offered in their original traditional forms. Mr. Ramholz's comments about a particular ingredient (Zhu Sha) or cinnabar while true, have only come to light subsequent to the writing of this book. I might add that I share his concerns and agree that Zhu Sha can be left out of the formulas without compromising the efficacy of the formula.

In the last 2 years it has been my experience that once the toxicity of Zhu Sha was confirmed, the great majority of Chinese herb shops no longer sell this particular ingredient.

As for the comment regarding Hu Gu/tiger bone I devoted a chapter to the discussion of this ingredient, going into detail about the pros and cons of using tiger bone and other animal by-products.

The only divergence of opinion appears to occur with his recommending the substitution of raccoon and pig gallbladder for bear's gallbladder. My personal position and the general policy of my Chinese herb company (Treasures From the Sea of Chi) is that I reject the killing of any animal for harvesting organs and body parts without exception.

Well written and laid out.

I really enjoyed the book and the directness of it, that is to say, there was not a lot of useless info that I had to go through to get to the meat of the subject, no filler, just good information, I will be reading it again and again. Along the lines of this book I have also read a number of excellent Herbal and Martial Arts books at the following website - http://home.sprynet.com/~rmieir, I also found a number of no non sense, information packed books there as well just incase others are interested. Once again, a great book!

An okay selection with some important cautions.
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 2000-02-14
This book essentially collects herbal formulas that are already in the public domain from other sources. While it presents a nice survey, I feel there are some needed cautions the author should have included for the general public.

The most important caution is the prohibition of the use of cinnabar, a mercury compound, for internal formulas. It should never be used in any herbal formulas by amatuers because of its well-known toxicity. Even highly processed cinnabar will contain traces of mercury; extended use will increase the exposure. It can simply be left out of the formulas in the book without much loss of efficacy.

The use of real Tiger bone besides being unethical would also be prohibitively expensive. The Chinese always substitute other animal bones (horse, dog, ox, among others). Some modern herbal practitioners have even used a combination of Calicium citrate and magnesium citrate. While none of the substitutions are that close in energy to real Tiger bone, they can be functional substitutions.

The same problems extend to the unethical use of Bear gallbladder. Substitutions such as racoon gallbladder, pig gallbladder, or commericially available bile sales may be used. And, again, while not the same energy as Bear gallbladder, they are ethical and functional substitutions.

Outside of these cautions, the book presents a nice mixture of classical, unique, and patent herbal formulas that have been used for hundreds of years. It makes a good starting place for martial artists who are interested but unfamiliar with herbal medicines.

Great Book - A One Stop Shop

The is really a great book. It begins by detailing a factual history of the ancient martial arts and their interaction with Taoism, Confucianism, and Buddhism. It then goes on to outline numerous meditation and Ki development exercises. It even throws in a few self defense techniques, just to show how the "Spiritual Warrior" can learn to consciously defend "Him" or "Her" self. This text provides the reader with not only a new and deeper understanding of the physical aspects of the martial arts but a complete how to for Ki development and the various forms of Buddhist meditation which have been developed for and associated with the martial arts over the centuries. I used this book as one of the references for my Master's Thesis.

While doing my Thesis I contacted Master Shaw. He was so nice and talked to me indepth about meditation and how it can become a natural evolution of the martial arts. He possesses a vast amount of knowledge on this subject, which is apparent in this book. I believe this book truly adds a new chapter to the martial arts.

One of the things I like most about this book is that it does not solely reference the martial artist, or "Spiritual Warrior" as Scott Shaw details all of us to be as, "He" or "Him." It also intermingles "She" or "Her" with this delineation. When speaking to Master Shaw he told me that this was not his idea, nor was it the way he had written the book. It was something done by the editors. None the less, I think this interchangable style is great. It acknowledges and gives power to us ladies, something most books on the martial arts never do.

Overall, I believe this to be an important work on breaking down the barriers of the traditional macho male dominated martial arts and taking them to the level where they can be embraced by the more spiritually inclined among us.

Like Sand Between the Fingers

For those that know their martial art history, the beginning chapter of this book is shady. Most of the information is true, but some of the printed material is speculative and not labeled as such.

The mixing and mingling of feminine and masculine pronouns assigned to 'the warrior' throughout the text made the reading...inconsistent and strangely difficult. There is no doubt that both men and women are/can be warriors, and I think the writing would have been more fluent if Shaw had just made that point, chose one pronoun, and stuck to it.

Shaw displays his opinions upon the spiritual path to the martial arts very well, but I think that he forgot to stay open to the idea that there is more than one way to skin a cat. When reading this book it sounds as if you are doing everything wrong if not following the path he is documenting, and I strongly disagree. To put it more poetically, "There are many paths up the mountain, but only one peak".

Sprirituality is a difficult subject to write about. It is like sand - when a person tries to take hold of it in a physical manner it simply slips through the fist. I bought this book looking for a truly spiritual text, and was disappointed to find yet another picture filled manual on the martial arts. Shaw's effort is to be commended, but I'm affraid that in his attempt to convey something very esoteric the sand slipped between his fingers.

This book puts in perspective some of our "every day" ideas.

I like this book. It thought me a lot of things. That is to say that it cleared or put in to words some of the ideas I was thinking at the time. The first part of this book is an exelent path for those who are looking for a different view on martial arts if not life as a whole. With the good things said, now I have to write about the only draw back of the book. The second part of the book talks about exercises and meditation technics, and these are fine and easy to follow. However, after these technics come a serious of fighting moves an teachings that quite frankly didn'tsit well with me. I don't mean that they are bad technics. I just didn't see a real reason to have them in the book because the fighting technics shown are common to most martial arts that teach some kind of grappling. Maybe after I mature more as a person and a martial artist the secound part of the book will make sense to me. In closing buy the book and pay attention.

I actually read the comments from the other readers before purchasing this book myself and the "he" / "she" reference which most of the reviewers mentioned didn't really get in the way of the content of the book itself. (Who knows, that may not have been the writer, but rather the publishing company, like so many other typos in books). I liked the way Scott Shaw intermingles spirituality with the martial arts; it reminds you of how the old Chinese practitioners see the martial arts - as an art and not just for fighting. I learned interesting tid-bits from this book and recommend it for anyone who is spiritually-minded.

It takes the heart of a woman to know the heart of a woman and author Genie O'Malley
shows this attribute in her work "Complete Earthly Woman."

In this tender read she takes you through
exercises that help you learn about yourself and your needs. She takes you step by step through exercises that allows you to release stress, speak peace and learn to become the woman you so long to be.

There are many avenues that we seek to bring us fulfillment. For some it is deep commitment to their faith, not all things are right for each person. We all must find what works the best for us.
The author gives you another avenue to explore that perhaps will help you find that inward peace. A very interesting read!

As a student of spiritual healing, I have studied most books written on energy healing. Some are just plain whacko, others are really text-books that need you to attend a workshop to really benefit. Here, Jim Gilkeson did something amazing. This book is both a readable introduction to energy work - from the solid foundation of experience - and has powerful exercises and meditations (or healing routines for others) that really help things move.
If you are looking to really get into your energy system and experience it - I would advice this book as the soundest energy healing text around. It is entertaining, wise, and easy to use. The exercise using triangles with a release stage led me into the first experience of my primal anger - detached from cause. I felt it sweeping out from me and upwards. It was a genuine release from the sacral area and after that came great calm.
As an introduction it is great. As a set of extra techniques for healers it is profound. And Jim is a good guy. You can write to him by e-mail with questions and he responds.
Let's hope the sequel is coming soon!

Having read Dr. Sagan's book and expecting to understand what an "entity" truly is, I find that unfortunately he missed the point.
His book is in fact mostly a manual of sessions he had with his patients, a very little part is devoted to the explanation per se. He goes on and on and on transcribing his sessions, we read the symptoms, but the cause or the true constitution of an "entity" is never made clear. It remains a mystery, and what is even more frustrating is that he affirms that no one can free you of these "entities" (???) except himself or his followers/practitioners.

And moreover, in the rare cases where he is not transcribing, he is just reciting what others (Chinese and other cultures) have to say about this.
In short, and according to him, any energy blockage, any - I dare say - symptom related to serious mental disorders like schizophrenia for example, will, to him, be classified as an "entity" that "speaks", and what is even more frustrating is that he affirms that you can catch these entities anywhere and at any point in your life, especially if you go into hospital to give birth for example.

This is a DISEMPOWERING book. I definitely do not recommend it.

My own entities!! Wow, was I surprised!

I was so surprised to read that common illnesses could be caused by non-physical things.

Absolutely fascinating reading for anyone open to new perspectives on physical and emotional health.

Dr.Sagan's Entity Possession is written with a matter-of-fact tone that this subject matter deserves. A straight-forward scientific presentation of subtle energy influences without the mystical journey overtones. A must read for serious Energy Healers and anyoneone else that perceives subtle energies.

Dr Sagan manages to normalise a phenomenom that is really quite mis-understood or not even seen in the world today.

Through concise documentatin of case studies he clearly outlines how to find them and what types of effects that result in ones energy and mind due to their intrusion. He also discusses the mechanisms by which they got there in the first place.

In his book, it appears that these little parasties of our body of energy are not easy to get, but once in there and observed, can be easily removed by a qualified entity clearer.

A fascinating read into the entity phenomenum....

Those who accept spirit possession usually think in terms of an "earthbound" spirit taking control of a human or at least influencing that person. However, the entity possession that the author of this book addresses is not quite the same thing. "Entities are not full human spirits who have lost their way and become attached to a living human being," Dr. Sagan explains. "If four weeks after the death of your aunt you happen to catch an entity that feels like her, it is just a fragment of her astral body, not her immortal soul trapped inside you." A graduate of the Paris 5 Faculty of Medicine, who also studied Sanskrit, Sagan now direct the Clairvision School in Sydney, Australia. There he helps clients dislodge themselves of these astral "parasites" through an expanded state of perception. The book contains many case studies in which clients are brought to focus on an entity and then to clear themselves of it. While apparently unique in Western parapsychology, such entity possession is, according to Sagan, well documented in Eastern esoteric sources. To help us understand it, Sagan first explains the four-fold nature of the human being. The lower complex is the physical body and the etheric body. The etheric is the life of the physical and apparently seen as the aura. The upper complex is the astral body and the Ego or Higher Self. Our thoughts and emotions are contained within the astral body, which is entangled like a spider web around the Ego and encased within the etheric body. At physical death, the upper complex separates from the lower, leaving the physical body to decay and the etheric body to dissolve in the ethers. However, as the etheric body dissolves, the shattering of the astral body begins. Sagan says that it is not uncommon for the astral fragments to retain their etheric parts with which they used to be connected. These fragments are imprinted with characteristics of the person, including cravings, addictions, emotions, and traits. If the person was an alcoholic, his astral fragments go wandering around in astral space looking for something to satisfy them. As like attracts like in the astral world, an alcoholic fragment will be attracted to living people who crave alcohol. The etheric body of living humans has its own defense mechanism. Therefore, it is usually in "high risk" situations, such as surgery, an accident, or intoxication, when the defense mechanism is down, that the astral parasites can attach themselves. While mainstream medicine no doubt looks askance at Sagan, he writes with authority and conviction. Most of it makes metaphysical sense, or at least as much sense as the alternative theories. It is an intriguing read.

I bought this book just because I liked what Andreas had to say about the natural ways of healing. Once I opened this book, I really could not keep it down. My humble suggestion to anyone who reads this book: Please please read this book with your heart... not with your head. While reading do not try to argue with what you read.... Read it and feel it... once you complete reading it, then if you want to and feel like, try to see if you can really make sense of it with the normal mind. I am in total AWE after reading this book!!! Filled my heart with love for every living and non-living being around me. This is coming from a truly blessed soul is all that I can say!!!

I just picked up this book because it interests me and am sad to see inside the book that the publisher didn't leave enough space to bind so you must spend undue strength and energy folding the book practically flat breaking its binding in order to read it.

This is an AWESOME gift of information. I was in the middle of reading it when my beloved husband had to have emergency open-heart surgery so I took it with me to read in the hospital. I would normally have been worried and very scared, but instead I felt quite calm and accepting of the situation as it unfolded. This book has the power to completely remove fear from your life. It shows you that there really is NOTHING to be afraid of. Fear of the future, fear of death, fear of change or unpleasant circumstances, it's all unnecessary. This is a staggeringly huge gift and the knowledge will change your life.

This book used to be titled Freedom from Judgment and reading it will give you a whole new insight into how the world and life really look without the clouding lens of judgment. You will experience a new way of seeing yourself and the people around you. You will also never look at crime and justice the same way.

I highly, highly, highly recommend this book to anyone. If you ever might have a stressful situation or a relationship problem or you want to understand why your life is the way it is, you NEED this book. It's truly one of those rare books that will dramatically change your life.

Wonderful book!

A "How-To" Book for Renewing One's Life

My life has had good days and challenging days. This marvelous book has helped me discover that every day I have the opportunity to freshly re-start my life without carrying forward the baggage I have accumulated the day before--even all the days before. Moritz slowly helped me build a foundation for making this possible by enabling me to question without fear all my beliefs about living the "good life." This enabled me to replace them with a much more coherent, logical and practical approach to living with much less stress, strain and concern.

This required no great leaps of faith on my part. He helped me build a new paradigm about meaning and purpose in one's life, and gently offered the "how-to"s I could put into practice with amazing results. Yes, it took some courage to let go of my past patterns dealing with day-to-day issues. But as I did, the results were worth every ounce of effort a hundredfold. I have given this book to many friends who have observed my calmer and happier countenance and questioned me about it.

This was recommended to me by a Reiki master as an excellent introduction to Reiki. I bought the book from the local bookstore and decided, based on the information in this book, that I wanted to practice Reiki.

I took Reiki I & II locally and, after much practice and healing, went on to become a Master myself. Now I recommend the book to those who show an interest in, and who want to know more about, Reiki before committing time and money to become trained in Reiki.

An excellent recource. Thank you, Mari.

Mari Hall always the consumate teacher, has once again shown her skill and compassion in this precise and down-to-earth book about the very practical side of Reiki. The book shines with Hall's personality and depth of professional experience. For those new to Reiki, there are photos which clearly depict the technical "hands-on" aspect of a Reiki Session. Students may find a useful study guide in Chapter 10 which details the interrelatedness of the endocrine system and the energy centers (chakras) of the body. Of course such things are not *just* interesting to Reiki practitioners, but to anyone exploring "energy medicine" and on the lookout for comprehensible information. As a teacher of Reiki myself, I always like to keep a few of my favorite books on hand to share with my students --and after having read "Practical Reiki" there is no doubt that I will be keeping the book in steady supply.

It was my desire to bring the message of Reiki in a very grounded and practical approach when I wrote this book. This is still my desire today. Keep it simple and practical yet give people an opportunity to see how easy and effective Reiki can be in their everyday lives. It is my hope that you will be able to understand this beautiful system not only with your mind but also with your heart. If you have not taken Reiki into your life you may choose to go so after reading the book, and for those of you who are in Reiki it will continue to be a good practical book to keep on your shelf and share with others.

Mari Hall has done a wonderful job of presenting the intent of Reiki and the contexts through which it can be understood and practiced. I am a full-time Reiki practitioner and teacher and this is the one volume that I recommend above all others to my students.
