Preparing Executives for the FutureReview Date: 2005-06-17
In 2004 EDA cunducted an in depth survey with senior management of nine major companies. This book is largely the result of what these executives had to say combined with the years of experience that EDA has had in preparing specialized training classes for executives.
As people have worked their way up the organization, they have had to develop leadership and numerous other skills. At the executive level they are now faced with new challenges. These particularly involve strategic decisions for which they have not been previously responsible.
Without going into the details of the book, the problems these new executives face include directing the corporation into new organizational forms, bringing new leaders up the chain, and preparing to meet the big changes that are coming in their corporate world. For change is always coming, and to ignore it is to effectively kill the company. What will happen to your company with dramatic jumps in the price of energy? What effect will the Kyoto protocol have? These are the known challenges. You can be sure that the future has a bunch of surprises that executives will have to meet if their companies are to survive.
This book contains not the answers to these problems, but how to prepare executives to effectively face them.

aimed at supplementing income and experience for teachers both young and old. The volume is well researched. It would be helpful for anyone seeking

secondary or collegiate schools throughout the USA. The book is written
well and organized for ease of use. It is reasonably priced.

A complete education for closing professionalsReview Date: 2007-03-31
There are a total of 17 chapters in this book. They take you step by step, from start to finish, through the entire closing process. Nothing is omitted. All of the documents that are involved, every step that is involved, and all of the terms that are used, are thoroughly explained. If, for example, you need to prepare a HUD Settlement Statement, Chapter 4 will show you how with a line by line description. Chapter 11 explains everything you need to know about title insurance. I especially found Chapter 9, 'The Closing', to be interesting since it describes everything that goes on in the actual closing, the role of the closer, how to handle a closing, and so much more.
This isn't the type of book that is intended to be read in one sitting, then put on a shelf. This is a desk reference that will be used each and every day. If there were a college course for title company employees, this would no doubt be the textbook used, and the only one needed. I'm sure that anyone who works in a title company will find this book indispensable. And I highly recommend it to all notary signing agents. It's a relatively small price to pay for the knowledge gained.

Growing up as a true teacherReview Date: 2005-09-04
Excellent for Student Teachers and Professional EducatorsReview Date: 2002-04-13
It outlines the areas that should be in any professional teaching portfolio, and clearly lists the types of documents that could be contained in each section. Looking at your own work with a critical eye and reflecting on what you did and how you can do better is one of the key ideas in this book.
There is a section on how to use your portfolio, and even an overview of creating an electronic portfolio. I found the examples of portfolio entries the most helpful section. It shows there are many ways to present your portfolio in creative and eye-catching ways, without being "cutsey".
The best message I got from this book is that your portfolio should not be shoved aside after you get a job, but continuously updated and reflected upon. This not only will keep you prepared if that "dream job" comes available, but it will help you grow as a professional educator. Any student teacher would find this book extremely valuable, and I believe professional educators would gain insight in revising their own portfolios.
