It depends . . . .

If you believe the corporate university concept should be (and, more importantly, can be) evolved into something better, this book is for you. If, however, you believe the corporate university concept is already hidebound and destined to be supplanted due to the newer schools of thought regarding CORPORATE talent recognition, development, and management, the benefit of this book is questionable. It all depends on whose kool-aid you've chosen to drink. IMAO (in my arrogant opinion), the arguably viable corporate university approach is overly susceptible to a heavy-handed academic bias; far-too-fertile ground for rampant, infantile political infighting and toadyism; and supportive of a wrong-headed, condescending view of practical experience. This book dances around these problems, perhaps because the corporate university of today does not necessarily create them, but simply allows them to fester. That said, if yours is a bias toward the corporate university, buy, read, and try very hard to put into practice what this book provides you. Your corporate univerisy, and those whose lives and careers it touches, will most defintitely be the better for it.

Good but Superfluous

This book is great for students who need an extra boost organizing/planning for fieldwork but was superfluous for me. I found that although the book had some helpful background info, I could have done without it. Most of the info in the book is obtainable through other sources (e.g. OT school lectures). However, for those who need an extra something to keep them on top of things, this book is for you!

This isn't exactly a bad book, nor is it a very good one.

The book offers 2 practice exams and walkthrus about answers. There is also a "refresher" chapter breaking down the skills needed to pass the test. Forget basic math/algebra/geometry? This book will go over it all again for you.

Why did I only rate this book at 3 stars? I STRONGLY dispute some of the answers given in the test keys. After much rereading, questioning of others (teachers, parents, a doctor, a pharmacist, and an MBA) the same conclusion is given about many answers listed in the keys. It's difficule to judge progress because you can't trust the answer key all the time.

The CD is a good feature; it will help prepare anyone taking the computerized test.

I enjoyed the breakdown of: how the test is scored, examples of essays, basic test information (length, comparison of computer/paper test, how to register).

I bought this book because I saw the American Council of Exercise logo on the book and being a beginner I wanted a trusted source. I did not pay enough attention to the title of the book. It really is for professionals. I did not understand the terminology. It is my fault for not paying attention to the title but I am writing this so that people don't make the same mistake that I did. It may be a good book for the fitness professionals. I am not qualified to judge. I am strictly writing this for the beginners out there.

Waste of time if you have ever been in a classroom before

I thought this book was a waste of my time. I am currently a student teacher. This book did not contain anything I did not already know from working as a teacher's aide or a substitute teacher. If you have ever been in a classroom before, the book will not be necessary. I bought this book for a class, and did not even need it. My past and present experiences alone gave me the information i needed for papers and discussions. ON the otherhand, if you are entering studnet teaching without ever having worked in a classroom, the book may prepare you for this you never knew about.

I was recommended a stack of books by my college's field experience office for student teaching, and this was the least helpful. If you want to be a great student teacher, just try to be a great teacher, period. This book outlined a lot of good practices for student teachers, but they were all rather common sense-ish. The book did not offer a simple outline; it tries to do everything, and no book can. Any decent teaching college will go over most of these points ad nauseum before you begin, making the book very unuseful. I would go with books that offer direct and simple outlines for you to elaborate on when you use them yourself.

I am a teacher and I try to remain active. This book helps teachers understand the causes of burnout and thus renew liveliness. It is very thorough and vital for everyone who is interested in educational psychology. I believe that this book is quite scientific and useful practical guide for solving the problem of burnout in general.

One of the best Study Guide!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2004-06-24
After reading only few chapters I am convinced that this is one of the best books about XP. (I have 4 of them including ExamCram2) I can definitely recommend this book to any one who is seriously preparing for the MCSA/MCSE 70-270 exam. I found answers to my questions easily and I suggest to people criticizing this book that they should read "About this Book" section, where you can find the chapter and lesson related to any exam objective. The writing style is excellent and easier to read. The book was written in 2001 so for added features and improvement in XP you have to consult "Windows XP Help"(highly recommended) and MSDN (this is expected when you study for an exam). I would keep this book as my primary source for MS 70-270.

This Book is the biggest POS I have ever had for a MCSE book. The cd is such a joke the testing software sucks so bad it does not even test you chapter by chapter. I went and took the 70-270 test and I was not ready for it at all. I went out and bought the sybex 70-270 book and its safe to say I will be so ready for the test now. The software on the sybex book lets you test yourself chapter by chapter and overall the book it set up much better.

A little backgound about me, I graduated in Telecommunication field, i am a Cisco certified, and working in the networking field, and it is happened that my job now require me more Micosoft and Redhat Linux certified.

all i can say about this book is Useless and Disappointed. i can not express how disappointed i am with this microsoftpress book. it is such a wast of money and time.

the book is hard to read, each concept is not explained well at all, not deepth. especially the review questions in the book, each chapter has about 3-6 review questions, the question are decided just for kids, really... the questions in the book are very easy and not enuf they r no point and stupid.i am sure in the real exam, there will not b any questions simply ask "group policy is ______?" or "you can share _______ connection in home or small office by using ICS-Internet Connection Sharing" (asnwer=Internet). can u see how simple and stupid the questions are, and turely it just ask like this in the book.

I decided to stop and look for other resources, stop now, better than wasting my time (which i already wast my money for the book itself).

i strongly don't recommend this book to anyone, easpecialy who is preparing for exam, this book won't bring u to anywhere close.

if you want to donate your money, better make it somewhere else, not Bill's pocket, he is surely alot far richer than u, u should know that.

Disappointed --- Shall i buy MicrosoftPress' product again?

The most stupid "study guide" that I've ever seen.

This book is far away for being a complete study guide for 70-270 exam preparation. Many questions, that you'll see on the actual exam, do not covered in this book at all. If you are familiar with Win XP, you'll find this book totally useless. If you're newbie to WinXP, you'll see the lack of explanations in many important topics. I'm totally disappointed with Microsoft Press. If you want to pass the exam, choose Sybex.

I stopped using this review after I got to the science section. I found three very bad errors, all biology related. After that, I figured if they could make that many mistakes in just one section, there were probably a number of others. It looks like they were in a rush to get the thing published and only did a very cursory editing job. It's a good thing I bought another Prep guide when I bought this one. And hey, it gave the biology professors I showed it to a good laugh. I just wish I would have read the other reviews before I spent my money and time on this piece of junk.

I am a fairly bright, soon to be, graduate student and I just failed the MSAT because I used only THIS study guide to prepare... not only are there TONS of mistakes... the practice tests in this book do not even come CLOSE to what the real test is like... I was blown away by how hard it is... buy something else to study if you want to pass...

I took the MSAT this past September, and missed the essay portion by 3 points! So, I'm taking it again this Saturday.

I used this book to study for the MSAT the first time around and overall it is just okay. There are errors here and there and although they included 2 sample exams, they do not even go over the answer for the essays. Instead, they tell you to take it to a teacher to grade! Which I think is lame - like you have time to do that. You get what you pay for.

"The Best Test Preparation for the MSAT" by the Research & Education Association is much more thorough and seems very accurate. This book was recommended by university professors. I'm using it as I write this...

Let me say that this is the cheapest of the MSAT books. And you get what you pay for.

ALthough this book helped me understand the structure of each component of the test, it did not provide any additional help in terms of content.

There are so many errors in this book, it makes me envious of the author and the publisher who just republish this book every so often. Why they don't find someone to professionally clean up the book is beyond me. I am sure the author is laughing all the way to the bank.

I would have given this book 1 star but it does provide a practice test with answers (suggested responses on essays).

Finally, just be prepared to be overwhelmed at the MSAT if you use only this book to study.
