This book is written so simple and I think the writer had no idea about the type of questions appear on USMLE step 2. questions are strait forward, explanations are so brief. I compare this book to NMS review Q and ACE the board step 3 and A&L Goldberg multiple Q for the step 2.

I know that Dr. Cullen knows what he is talking about, I know that this book is the standard to which other books on management are held, and it is almost always required reading, but this book is instant somnia. Some of the information also seems a little dated and cliche now that every manager in the country uses these techniques. Reading it in conjunction with The Chef Manager really helped me plow through.

I want to recommend that this book provide not enough information you need to read 70-175 by the same publisher (this will help you ) and still get 60%. A lots of questions in the real exam not in this book and please prepare to select 2 answers at the same time i.e. in some case this book provide you only 1 answers for solutions but in the real exam they need 2 answers : In some quetions you need to answer as Create Symbolic debug info but they will ask you to check 2 answers. What you will answer? All the books just tell you about 1 answers, please be prepared.

Whiners are missing the point

I suspect that those who are whining about this training kit are missing the main point of the Microsoft Certification program - DEMONSTRATE YOUR EXPERTISE. You can't become an expert by studying a book and working through a few exercises. This book is essentially a very good guide book that points you in the right direction. I used this book and then followed up on each topic by digging into the on Programmer's reference for VB6 that comes with the product. I passed the test yesterday on the first attempt after 2 weeks of evening study. You want to pass this exam? Use the book, follow up in the online manuals, and work through a small VB6 client server project, including deployment. You will pass.

You do not need a bunch of fancy, expensive sample testing products. I did not take a single practice test other than the one that came with the book.

Good, but...

The book covers about 70% of the exam. Its coverage of VSS, VCM and Package and Deployment Wizard are very superficial. These topics are very important in the exams (PDW has 10 to 15 questions) and can make the difference between pass the exam or not. The coverage of COM is good but incompleted. If you use only this book you need good experience in Client/Server applications. I used this book for some basic material and, the best of all, MCSD in a Nutshell by James Foxall (good coverage of PDW, VSS, VCM and COM). This last was my main guide to pass the exam. I agree with other reviewers: this exam isn't for beginners, you need at least two intensive years of experience building real applications to catch some questions. Without it, this book -any book- can help.

If you are using this as a study guide, go elsewhere. Its close to 600 pages, only about 170-220 should have been used to cover what is on the Proxy Exam. I finally decided to use something besides the Exam Cram books, and do I ever regret it. The author even states at one point, "you might be asking why you need to know this". I agree that knowledge is power but save the extra 400 pages for another book about proxy. It is definately a poor study guide. You get so bored with the mounds of useless info that you are a zombie by the time he gets to the good stuff. s

I purchased this book based on the reviews.... The book wasnot easy to follow and the author spent more time telling you that thetopics would be covered in a later chapter - Never mind the fact thatthe topics were never thouroughly explained. I feel that this bookwas very diorganzied and did not present the material in such a wayfor individuals to understand it. If you are using just this book tostudy for the exam, I highly reccommend that you use other materialsto supplement this book. END

This book was long - in part because it covered a lot of NT information that you should know by the time you're taking an elective exam. For this test, I actually perfered the Exam Cram study guide because it clearly defined the three components of Proxy Server and then expanded on all three and how they fit together, where as this book seemed to devote huge chapters to each component leaving the reader to figure out how everything worked together.

Also, some of the sample questions at the end of the chapter were not sample 'exam' questions - they were essay/short answer.

I've read some pretty bad reviews on this page and wanted people to know that this book isn't as bad as they're making it out to be. After using this book and the CD provided with the book I was able to pass the 70-210 exam. There were a few things on the exam that weren't covered by the book, but I found them using other resources. The accual exam wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. You can pass using this book as your main resource, you just might want to check out a few web sites about the MCSE or MCSA just to make sure you know your stuff.

I used both to pass my exam with flying colours but i found this book easier to read and covered the material more indepth. I fully recommend it to anyone who wants to pass the Windows 2000 Pro exam. Good luck to your journey to MCSE land.

If your single goal is to pass the exam this book will probably do the job. Do not suspect a well writen reference on the subject. In many instances given explanations miss real depth, and many errors and inconsistencies can be found throughout the book.
Just as if it was quickly written for selling by numbers without a real concern about contents. Occasionally it seems that some subjects were written to fullfil the exam requirements, however, the author did not have the experience with the subject.
The publisher made a smart deal with training centres to use this book as their reference...
- Not recommended -
A few pages of errata can be found on the publishers website, however, many more are still uncovered.

The only good thing about this book is the cd-rom which has some nice videos which show you how to do the most important stuff.

The book itself is total rubbish. I do not pretend that technical books are error free but in this book, there is no single chapter which is free of errors. It is totally unacceptable to buy an expensive book which instead of helping you to pass the exam, it will as a matter of fact mislead you!

If I was the author of this book I would ask the publisher to retire it and compensate all the poor souls who bought it.

I passed the exam on the first try with a score of 800 but obviously not thanks to this book but thanks to ExamCram.

The best thing about this book is the CD that comes with it. The computer graded test are great and help you locate your trouble areas. It's not going to show the exact questions that will be on your particular test (i.e. cheat). The practice exams (and flashcard test)will test your readiness to take the MCSD Visual Basic 5 certification exam offered by ICCP. Even if your not going to take the test the book and computer aided testing software give all Visual Basic programmers strict coding guidlines. You won't just learn how to pass the test you'll also learn good coding techniques. I wouldn't rely solely on just this book as your only source/means to pass the test, you'll have to work very hard to become certified in any worthwhile field. If more books came with test like these you can mark me down as a potential buyer.

A good product hampered by substandard quality control.

Review Date: 1999-04-07
If you intend to solely use this book to prepare for the VB5 exam, DON'T. Since the book assumes that you have prior know how of the VB and it's underlying technologies, I suggest that you use this book together with the VB help and Online Book. One thing I like is the way the book was organized. The topics were divided just as it was stated in the MS website. The accompanying CD was a big let down. The more I take the practice exam, the less it makes me feel of my chances. I never scored beyond 800. There was a lot of mistakes in the practice exam. What you can do is either double check all your answers that was marked as incorrect or use a different practice test like the one from Trancenders.

To summarize, the book will provide you with enough information for your review as long as you use it with the product itself together with the VB help and the Online book.

Pretty good, but watch out for the errors

I read this book cover to cover and found that it only provided me with 80% of what I need to know for the exam. The chapters on ActiveX technology were poorly written. The other chapters were better. I guess having multiple authors will lead to the inconsistency. These guys should have proof read each other's work. The test CD was soooooo disappointing. Some test questions were poorly worded and about 20% of the answers were incorrect. i'm sure that you'll be frustrated when you work with the practice test. Don't forget to download the errata.txt file. My final advice is to supplement this book with something else. Aside from the CD, it's still a decent book with good information. However, you need other references to fill the gap. I was able to use the Mastering VB5 CD from Microsoft and the VB Online Help file. Well, the good news is that i was able to pass the exam this morning with a score of 915. Good luck to you!

A friend of mine had a copy of this book, which I recently looked through. I can assure you that nothing you glean from this book is going to make it easier for you to get into law school. Admissions at Harvard are pretty straightforward - they look at your LSAT score, GPA, and then any extracurricular and work experience you have.
You want to get into HLS? Work hard in undergrad, get top-notch grades, look into some interesting internships, and consider enrolling in an LSAT preparatory course. Other than that, the only advice I can give you is to get your applications in as early as possible in the admissions cycle.

The author, Willie J. Epps Jr., is of no relation to the previous Dean, as stated in Kevin Meyer's review. The author was a student at Harvard Law who wanted to help college students achieve their goals of getting into law school by uncovering the mystery of how others did just that. The author's insight into the types of candidates and applications accepted into Harvard Law is invaluable for college students considering law school and the essays provided by accepted students give those applying a view of what types of essays made the cut. The book is helpful for students trying to develop a strong candidacy to any law school -- not just Harvard. While some reviewers find the student comments 'egotistical' , one should be reminded that it is the nature of 'personal' essays. (Yes, one's own pride needs to be in check when reading the applications and essays of these exemplary individuals.)
This book can prove to be very helpful when the application process seems nothing but daunting! Thanks Willie.

I picked this book up in a "bricks and mortar" bookstore, and it only took me about two seconds to realize it was totally worthless. Epps's father was a Dean at Harvard College, which, I assume, is how he got the authority to pass such a book off as an expert "How To" guide. As other reviewers have noted, it's little more than a compilation of survey responses from people who have gotten in.

If you really want to get into Harvard Law, focus hard on rocking the LSAT and then buy Montauk's book instead.

i will tell you precisely how to get into harvard law school:

a) buy your admission or

b) be related to a dean of admissions or

c) earn excellent grades and a high lsat score from a reputable college, and don't come off as a jerk in your essay.

beyond that there is no other tactic at your disposal. no book will ever get you into an ivy league law school, and if you are looking for essay advice then you can find it online for free. there is a copy of this book in the career services office of my college. there is basically a copy of this book available on harvard's website (all the info is there).

you can only exemplify your worth to harvard through the choices that you have made in your academic career. that means if the extent of your extracurricular involvement was setting up the keg for that frat party frosh year, or you find yourself as a senior with a 3.2 GPA, your salvation will not be contained in this book. allay the desperation, and get some work experience.

good luck with your search, and discriminate against anyone who is trying to sell you something.

I just wanted to point out to the review who claimed "This book is filled with people who got 4.5 and above GPAs and LSAT scores of 170 and better." It is IMPOSSIBLE to get a GPA of 4.5 in college. The highest GPA one can achieve in college is 4.33 and thats *if* the school awards an A+ for a grade of 100%. Most schools just award ordinary A's which caps the maximum GPA at 4.0.

What separate technicians apart from each other are usually the certifications they hold. What is need to get that certification? Time, money, studying and most of all the study material. The MCSE Training Guide for Windows 95 is one book that will make getting the MCP easier.

800 plus pages of information that take apart the exam 70-064 objective by objective. I thought working with Windows 95 for five years I knew enough to pass the exam, this book showed me things I had never seen before.

From planning to installing and configuring to integration and monitoring to the optimization and troubleshooting, this book breaks down what you need to know in a format that even the beginner can understand.

The book comes with Test Prep Software to give you a look at what types of questions you'll get on the exam. Also you have flash cards and a study system to help you better prepare for the test. Overall this book makes passing the exam easier and financial independence quicker.

The 70-64 Windows 95 exam is tricky, but this book provides a very good foundation for the success. It does cover much more than is actually on the exam, and as such serves as a reference for the OS. I do think you will need to supplement study with the Windows 95 resource kit, but all the objectives on the exam are covered in the book. While the sample questions are sometimes lame (and really do not mimic the exam) there is an appendix which provides GREAT last minute study tips. The section on troubleshooting is fantastic, written by a person who obviously has spent time in the field wrestling with the same kind of problems administrators see every day. All in all, it is well worth the money I spent.

I also used the Windows 95 Resource Kit to study and that hepled to clear out the missing networking piecies in my puzzle.
