A LEED AP is a person who passed at least one of the three LEED Exams (LEED-NC, LEED-CI, LEED-EB) and has the skills and knowledge to encourage and support integrated design, to take part in the design process, and to control the application and certification process for a LEED building. Since most people tend to take LEED-NC exam to become LEED AP, "LEED NC Sample Exam: New Construction" can be very helpful to them.

"LEED NC Sample Exam: New Construction" is not a study guide or an exam cram book. It is a sample exam. The nice and helpful feature is that it gives you the answer and explanation. This can save you time and let you know if you are ready for the exam. You can download the sample exam from USGBC website, but it only has 12 sample questions.

"LEED NC Sample Exam: New Construction" has 39 pages. It is a useful book for preparing for the LEED-NC v2.2 exam.

If there is a question in anybody's mind regarding the need for 'Leadership in Energy and environmental Design,' they need only look at what's happened to their winter heating bill over the last two or three years. And it is going to get worse. In an attempt to remove some of the fraud and misrepresentation from the industry the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has created the LEED Professional Accreditation exam.

This book is just a sample exam. It is not a tutorial on the material, nor does is it an 'exam cram' type book. It consists of a simulated examination, as close to the real test as they can make it, followed by the answers and a detailed solution describing how that answer was derived.

For a text on the material covered by this book, the USGBC (you can find them using a search engine) puts out several documents including the New Construction Reference Guide.

Discover The Leader Within You

In "Leveraging Your Leadership Style" John Jackson and Lorraine Bossee-Smith provide the model for relationship driven leadership. The book is based on the premise that leadership is about positive and proactive influence in the context of healthy relationships.

An important personality assessment guide helps the reader discover their behavior individuality traits (BIT) and leadership style. Whether commander, coach, counselor, or conductor, no BIT is better or worse than another. The first key to effective leadership is to identify and understand your leadership style.

The nine chapters of this compact book also include profiles for each leadership style, suggestions for leveraging your style, and cautions for things to avoid. I found the chapter on mentoring especially important and meaningful.

The authors provide insight into developing strategies to maximize your leadership style through defining your purpose, setting goals, living life to the full, and putting others first.

This is a book that is motivational, instructional, and inspirational, brilliant in simplicity, profound in insight.

As a Commander (one of the leadership styles in the book) I'm telling everyone to get this book! Since I have a little Coach (another one of the leadership styles in the book) I'll stop ordering and convince you of your need. :)

I have one copy. I plan to buy many more copies. As I grow my team here in Nashville I plan to use the book with my Key leadership as a quick testing/training tool. This book offers you the ability to take the teams you manage/lead on a journey of self discovery. In addition, it allows you to scope out your team and assure that they are in the right positions...based upon how they are wired.

This quick read is perfect for leaders...who are mostly always on the go. John and Lorraine write a book that seems very conversational...and comfortable. In addition, John's authenticity comes through loud and clear.

Not your traditional..."do it this way or you really are not a leader"...leadership book. Buy one...and then buy all of your team members one.

do you want affirmation & great discussion?

I thought the book did a great job affirming various temperaments and how those strengths can show up in leadership. I also appreciated the warnings for different personality styles. I think this book would be a huge asset to teams of leaders who can read through it and discuss it while on a retreat or at an extended meeting.

Why you should read this book:
* You will be affirmed. The book affirms leaders of various personality types and affirms leaders who do not currently hold an official leadership position.
* You will be encouraged. This field of teaching is plagued with leadership principles taught by leaders who essentially communicate that in order to lead better, "Just be more like me." This book counteracts this pandemic.
* You will talk. You will have a frame of reference to talk with other leaders on your team about the strengths and weaknesses that you all bring to the table.

This book excellently describes ethics in decision making and reveals ethical principles in the Bible that every minister of any degree should be required to read. I read this due to a class required by the North Carolina District of the Assemblies of God and have heard from several senior pastors that the guidance found in this book would save many a pastor from making ignorant mistakes in leadership.
Why is this needed for Christian leaders who should be moral already? Because this book reveals that people with good morals can be ignorant of unethical behavior which effects their leadership and those who follow them.

Chapters address critical issues such as moral choices that confront a minister, interactions with colleagues and congregations, the thorny and deleterious issue for clergy sexual abuse, and much more. A sober and committed in-depth discussion of serious matters.

Brain-compatible and Adaptable

Adult learning theory is handily referenced in this neat little book, and it's those references that are just as valuable as the advice Tate offers for the newer professional staff developer (or anyone who teaches adults). The interested reader can follow the research to explore the subjects more thoroughly.

The theoretical framework pages are useful support for Tate's activities. Though some of the material and suggestions are a bit simplistic for the adult audience("...participants work together to create a song that shows what they have learned."), the majority of ideas can be easily altered to suit any level of inquiry required. It's a quick read, which is also helpful to time-strapped professional developers, and it explores the newest brain-compatible strategies as it inspires creative adaptation. I would recommend this resource as part of a working library, especially for newer staff developers.

Just like her other books, Dr. Marcia Tate takes her brain-compatible strategies and applies them to the adult learner. Often times adults are no more than big children and her techniques help to utilize instructional strategies to 'teach' the adult learner. Her ideas are great for professionals who provide professional development for the adult learner.

Marcia Tate practices what she preaches!

The reason I bought this book, and all her others, is because I was lucky enough to be in her 2-day seminar. She DOES practice what she preaches! In her book, she uses 20 research-based, brain-compatible strategies to motivate and engage learners, enabling them to reach higher test scores. During her seminar, she used these same 20 strategies with us and they worked! We actively listened and learned, because she didn't expect us to "sit and get". We were moving, talking, playing games, writing, drawing, etc...using those 20 brain-friendly strategies. I am now using these 20 strategies in my classroom. My math class all tested 100% on their first unit tests! I will use Marcia Tates books and strategies forever!

The book is good to see lots of pictures of steam plant equipment and a bit is given explaining what the equipment does, but I found the "Steam & Diesel Power Plant Operators Examinations" book much more powerful to pass fireman and engineers exams, including employment interviews! I suggest to buy both of these great books!

This is clearly the best book about the practical side of Change Management I've read so far (and I've read more then 20 by now). This book really helps me in my day-to-day work as a Change Manager. Smith has closed a big gap in the Change Management literature, this is the most practical book you can look for! Highly recommended.

I found the book to be extremely informative. Douglas Smith has done a masterfull job of creating a step by step guide for the process of both Creating and Managing Change in any organization. He also points out why many Change Efforts fail. The 10 step guide that he has created should help us all avoid the common pitfalls of this process and help greatly improve our odds of success. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is either thinking about starting a change effort or currently in the midst of one now.

I have worked in the retail security field for years, and found this book to be right on the money. His insight into the mind of the shoplifter is incredible! If you work in security you HAVE to buy this book...

Shoplifting "facts" by Cupchik appear questionable.
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 1999-04-01
Fair book with very large font. Cupchik makes some generalizations that are questionable. Most of his writing is based on two studies that he has authored with a very limited sample, and these are slammed into a strong psychoanalytic theory for discussion. Although the text is thought provoking, more validation is needed to test his conclusions. Overall, fair book.

A Thoughtful Look at Work-Family Relationships
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2002-08-08
This book contributes to our understanding of the complicated relationship between work and family life. Based on an extensive survey of over 800 business school alumni, the book takes the reader on a thoughtful journey looking at the issues facing both working parents and the organizations employing them. Organized around six major themes, two particularly stood out for me. First, the authors make the point that work and family can be allies. When there is support for non-work lives, individuals experience greater well-being in the form of less role conflict and greater self-esteem. Another critical theme is that children are major stakeholders at work. Although others have made this point, Friedman and Greenhaus do a stellar job of describing the behavioral and psychological effects on children of having a mother or father deeply involved in work. Written in a clear and engaging style, this book is valuable to both human resource practitioners and scholars.

Pioneering new ideas for integrating work and family
Helpful Votes: 11 out of 11 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-12
The dilemma that working parents all face as they succeed in their careers is how to manage their emerging professional responsibilities with their nurturing responsibilities for children. When family demands escalate, typically women scale back, or opt out of, professional opportunities freeing men to climb the proverbial career ladder. An authoritative new book, Work and Family -- Allies or Enemies by authors Stewart Friedman and Jeffrey Greenhaus, makes the case that it is possible for both working parents to pursue a career and assume full parental responsibilities - and be happy doing it - if both are willing to work cooperatively.

Based upon a pioneering study of 800 business professionals, Work and Family offers startling insights and lessons into how men and women, along with their employers, are dealing with the challenges of integrating parental and professional responsibilities. The book is formed around six key themes: 1) We can have (much of) it all, but it's especially difficult for working mothers; 2) Work and family can be allies; 3) Time is not the major problem; 4) Authority on the job is essential for work-family integration; 5) Women may be better adapted for jobs of the future; and 6) Kids are the unseen stakeholders at work. Friedman and Greenhaus weave these themes through the book in ways that puncture myths (keeping private and professional lives separate) and illuminate new understandings (acceptance of employers to new work processes to complement work-family integration).

The authors offer three principles for integrating work and life. One, clarify what's important. Parents need to be clear with one another as well as with their employers about what they want to achieve in their lives. Two, recognize and support the whole person. Private and professional lives overlap; it is important that individuals integrate the best parts of themselves into all parts of their lives. Three, continually experiment with how goals are achieved. Blending work and family is an ongoing learning process that needs continuous evaluation to meet changing needs.

Work and Family is as much for parents as it is for employers. The war for talent is continuous and escalating. As authors Friedman and Greenhaus demonstrate in their research, those employers who strive to meet employees' needs for an integrated work and life will be rewarded with more loyal and dedicated employees who are happier and more productive. They end up creating a win/win situation for employees as well as their shareholders.

Work and Family is an important work deserving of inclusion in the lexicon of literature concerned with our changing workplace. Parents will find prescriptions for finding answers in their day to day work and life choices. Employers will find lessons that they can apply to their work environment. And researchers will find a fundamental study upon which to carve new understandings of work and life in our culture.

Insightful!

Stewart D. Friedman and Jeffrey H. Greenhaus conducted extensive research with 861 alumni of the business schools at Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania, both in Philadelphia. Their research yielded revealing results about the struggle of professionals to manage work and family commitments. However, Friedman and Greenhaus present these results in such overwhelming statistical detail that the average reader is in danger of being swamped. This is especially the case when the data proves principals that most people already grasp through common sense and experience. That said, we ... recognize that the authors have done working Joes and Janes a great service by aggregating numbers to back up the notion that it's getting tougher to balance family and career. As such, this is an important book for anyone in a position to set workplace policy.

As the cover tells us, it covers all of the CDA (Child Development Associate) competencies. It's easy to read, yet covers theory and application with integrity.

I would definitely get it!
