This is a good book from the perspective of practicing physicians. The book presents a good example of what physicians being tried (inappropriately or appropriately) probably go through up to and during trial. It is written very conversational and is a very easy read. The author's cynical attitude pervades the novel bringing an entertaining, comical twist.

Caty was the young wife of Gen. Nathanael Greene. Not content to stay home with the children, she joined her husband in winter quarters at Monmouth NJ (where she gave birth to one of their sons) and Valley Forge PA. The author wrote this biography based on their letters.

If you're interested in this sort of thing as I am this book could be of great value however the price is unreal. I have a CD that does much the same for the entire country at a third the price of one state however this book is MUCH more accurate and shows county boundaries that only occured for as little as three days. The CD is also easier to use. That said I'll likely ask for the book as one of those Christmas presents I wouldn't buy for myself.

I found this book to well worth the price upon first glance! The book is full of Historic pictures of sites past and present. I feel this should be a hard cover book due to its content of historical facts as well as pictures. It covers historic era's from the Civil War to political issues such as the Death Penalty and the reason the State of Rhode Island no longer has one. To a local Historian its a 5 out of 5 stars
Thought enough of the book to write this!

Allison Riley is 25 years old and because of her, now ex-fiance's parents attitude she wants to find her birth parents.
She has found 3 possibilities, and goes to Rhode Island the check the closest one, Monica Van Ruyder.
Ah but she runs into Martin Van Ruyder, Monica's brother, who immediately suspects Allison as being after their money. Monica had just mysteriously died a month before.
The trouble begins when Mary Louise Van Ruyder wants to meet Allison.
Martin immediately calls their lawyers in New York, Rockford, Rockford, Collingsworth and Strand. Burton Rockford answers his call for someone to be on hand when Mary Louise meets Allison. Burton delegates his son, Gabe, who his mother would like to see married before his fortieth birthday. This gives Gabe 5 years to get married and produce a child. This is also the problem Martin has with his mother. She wants a grandchild.
Mary Louise also has a friend staying at their summer cottage [40 rooms] who Martin would like to see gone. Sergei Yousitoff although very sucessful and has money of his own is 5 years younger than Mary Louise. Another generation love story.
Gabe is at first sceptical of Allison's story but slowly recognizes her internal innocence. We get to follow her and Gabe trying to unravel the mystery surrounding Monica and her torrid romances. Did she really have a child out of wed-lock? 25 years ago she was only 17.
We meet one man after another that had a hot affair with Monica. But is seems that once she caught them the affair lasted no more than a month before she moved on.
Gabe soon found himself snared in romances [and hormones] web as he decided to help Allison track down the father of Monica's child.
An excellent read - very entertaining - neat characters [especially Monica's best friend and worst enemy].
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED -- M

Jane Delaney's new car has been hit by the famous opera singer, Keene Morray. Taking care of an ill mother, Jane has struggled to make her financial ends meet and wonders what she will do now while she recovers from her injuries suffered in the car accident. As his shortcomings caused the accident, Keene takes responsibility for Jane's situation and also hires Jane as his new personal assistant while he finishes his business in Providence, before he heads back to New York.
Jane's faith is an extremely important part of her life, and Keene soon sees this in Jane's actions and the activities she pursues. In fact, Jane will be playing a major part in her church's Easter cantata, an annual event that has many attending the cantata coming to Christ due to the intense emotions portrayed by the actors.
A serious health problem finds the lead actor, Jim Carter, who was to portray Jesus, unable to play the part. There appears no other option but to cancel the cantata with the doctor's diagnosis of throat cancer, unless Jane can coax Keene to take on the part of Jesus. This is almost unimaginable, for Keene is a well-known and respected opera singer who has a contract and is paid to do a job. Why would he agree to a free will part at the local church? And the biggest obstacle of all is that Keene is an atheist. How believable could he be as Jesus if he is an unbeliever?
Overcoming many hurdles to make it happen, Keene finds himself taking on the part of Jesus, for his heart is being swept away by Jane and her unending faith. Jane struggles with Keene's decision of playing Jesus, even if the alternative is canceling the cantata, if Keene does not believe in God. Jane prays to God to help break the ice in Keene's heart. During the last performance, Keene makes a life changing decision.
"Down from the Cross" is a story of accepting Christ in one's life and the change it can bring about. Keene finds Jane, a beautiful woman he loves, and a faith he can live peacefully with. Through Jane, Keene's life changes with his acceptance of Jesus into his heart.
If you question your faith or know someone who does, "Down from the Cross" might be a good story to listen to. It is an audio book of four disks and carries a message of faith. It is meant to show the change that can and will take place, no matter what the situation, if you accept Jesus and live your life committed to him. "Down from the Cross" is a Christian romance that adult readers and listeners will likely enjoy the most. It is meant to show how God can work miracles in all our lives, if we will only accept Him.

After the title, the cover mentions 150 destinations... While the information contained in this volume is accurate for the lights that I am familiar with, at the same time, the volume is not nearly as comprehensive as the recently published "The Lighthouse Handbook - New England" by Jeremy D'Entremont, which also lives on my bookshelf. Elinor's book is a nice companion to Jeremy's and it is certainly worth having both. Elinor has information on when individual lights are open, telephone numbers, etc. broken out into colored boxes, which makes this information readily spotted, whereas Jeremy's Field Guide has the same information contained in the text pertaining to each light.

This book provides a lovely pictoral of early Italian settlers' journey to RI and the beautiful world they created once here. This book will thrill anyone, especially Italian Americans who want to see and read about their beginnings. I was happy to see many of my relatives and their friends as they were when they were young starting out as laborers, grocery owners, and politicians. Readers will gain an appreciation for the life of these early RI Italians and the great strides they and their children have made in the 20th Century.
