This is a great resource for people travelling to New York. It's in reference form, with titles, addresses and some menus of restaurants that are aware of the celiac diet, and in some cases specially prepare gluten-free food. I needed my book quickly and Maria did everything she could to get it to me. This book and its author are terrific.

This is a great gluten-free restaurant guide for people living in or visiting the NY tri-state area. It not only highlights great places to eat gluten free, but also lists where to shop. The sample menus are also very helpful.

This is an excellent review of Groton's history told in pictures. I love reading about the history and people of my town, and the surrounding towns. The photos and captions were amazing...and there's so many! I really enjoyed going through this book and seeing just how much has changed here, and trying to picture the town the way it was back then (late 1800's / early 1900's), even my own neighborhood. When I took the dog out for a walk, I saw many houses that were featured in this book, and of course the Griswold monument. It was all VERY interesting. I've picked up the books for the neighboring towns as well. I'm confident they'll be just as interesting!

The 3rd story of this series is intense. It was hard to put the book down as I hoped for a way for Daniel and Taregon to make peace with their past and the things that drove them apart. After Daniel unwittingly betrayed his family I was in agony as I wondered how everything was going to work out in the end. It is so good to read about a piece of history that is so often neglected in our American history books. I greatly enjoy reading about the Native Americans and wish things could have worked out differently and wonder what our world would be like today if they had.

A Wonderful Book!

The third installment in this wonderful series. This one started a little slower but once I got into it I couldn't put it down. I am anxious to get into the 4th book. I know I will be sorry there are only 5. However, I have now purchased several of her other books. She is a wonderful writer. Thank you Angela Hunt--keep writing!

Michael Downs has done a wonderful job of weaving in his personal life with a story of hopes and dreams--some realized and some not. At times, his prose is poetic. The story of the virtual collapse of huge chunks of Hartford is a story that has played out in major cities across America. This story, extremely well-documented and reported, is uniquely and poignantly told.

Jim Shea's Best Yet

Huskie Mania is among some of the finer works of modern non-fiction sports literature in print today. Huskie Mania, which is both editorial and factual, contains Shea's thoughts and opinions on the University of Connecticut's basketball teams, both men's and women's, as well as exclusive information on coaches, team members, and games not found anywhere else. And along with his sentimental view points are the authentic, legitimate, unquestionable, and valid approaches to what really went on behind the scenes of college basketball at the University of Connecticut. Unique in its approach, breathtaking in its style and brilliant in its sincerity, Huskie Mania is a must-read for children, teenagers, adults, parents, and especially basketball fans. I reccomend this book to anyone who has ever had a dream to do something amazing, for it will inspire you to become anything you want to be. Shea, if you are out there, congratulations on a book well written and a job well done. You truly are one of the, if not the, greatest author of all time.

A Great Book for Wide Age Range
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.

This is biographical look at Tomie dePaola's growing up years in Meriden, Connecticut. This book opens right after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Tomie, a 2nd grader, is scared. He hears the grownups talking, he hears the President's address on the radio, and he practices air raid drills at school. Everyone tells him that everything is alright, but he's still scared.

This book reads like fiction, but is based on Tomie's real-life experiences, and includes such real details of the war that children wouldn't otherwise know, like nylon hosery being unavailable because nylon was used for parachutes and blackout curtains being used to protect the house. It eerily parallels what today's children have had to deal with, both with the bombing of the World Trade Center five years ago, as well as children dealing today with fathers, brothers and uncles going off to serve in the war in Iraq.

I recommend this book as a read-aloud for Kindergarten up and it's a great read-alone book for kids a little older, all the way up to age 10 or so (and not so bad for the parents either).

This is a great book for young children to read! It covers the news of Pearl Harbor thru New Year's Eve of that year. I believe that Tomie was in the second grade at the time. Mr. dePaola does an excellent job of describing the fears and feelings that a child had at that time. He did a great job of explaining the experience (like bomb shelter preparation) without creating fear in the young reader. My 6 and 4 year old children loved it. We can't wait for the next edition. Great book with a great selection of trails, some only a few miles away from me that I was unaware of.

The book is set up so that it is very easy to plan each trip. The descriptions of the flora and fauna to be encountered on the trail are very detailed. As a budding nature photographer, this is a major plus.

Love the book and recommended to anyone who lives in or is planning a vacation to Connecticut who wants to see the variety of landscapes and wildlife that the state has to offer.

I was pleased to find this guide to discovering the natural areas of Connecticut. Since I bought it, my family and I have been on numerous hikes. The chart in the front helps us plan--if we have time for a bit of a drive and a day's outing, we can go farther to a new and spectacular hike. If we don't have much time, we choose one closer to home. It's a great way to explore our new home state.

This is a wonderful book with great old photos of the department thru the years. I am proud to say that my father was a Lieutenent in the New Haven Fire Dept. He is depicted in this book, in an infamous photo of a fellow firefighter carrying him, unconscious, from a fire scene.

I grew up with my grandmother always talking about my great grandfather being a New Haven firemen. My great grandfather's name was William Cleary and he perished in a 1930 fire by an ammonia tank in the basement of a bakery. I bought this book so that I could not only read about my great grandfather, but so that I could read about all of the other heroic men who risked their lives, some even perishing, to save other people's lives. I not only enjoy reading about the various fire departments and firemen in New Haven through all of the decades starting with the early 1900's through present day, but the photos are priceless. The photos display the old firetrucks, the men, and the horrific blazes that the men had to contend with. I couldn't believe how the firemen's uniforms progressed throughout the years and what the early firemen had to endure not only with their rustic uniforms, but with their early modes of transportation. This book is for anyone who wants to read about incredible heros and the actual history of the New Haven fire departments. The tribute to all the firemen who died in the line of duty was very touchung. I felt that this book was written by a person who lived and breathed as a fireman. It made me feel proud to know that I had a courageous hero in my family. Don't pass up this historical, brilliant read. Audra Riccitelli
