This is a book filled with beautiful pictures of the untouched countryside of Australia. Australia, which was almost as large as the whole of Europe at the time this book was published, is a land of rivers, lakes, mountains and beautiful beaches. Also included are the most popular tourist attractions at the time it was published.

I may keep it in my guest room but I read it often myself when I can't sleep. It is a collection of short stories from well-known authors (Mark Twain, Colette) and some new authors (ummm...) dealing in some way with being awake at night. In some cases it's by choice, others it's simply insomnia. The stories are generally only a few pages long; PERFECT for reading at 3 or 4 am.

Growing up in Palestine in the 1920's-1930's

Isaak Diqs recounts his early childhood in Palestine prior to the creation of the state of Israel. Poignant story of a people who live close to the land and how their removal from that land disrupts family ties for generations. I have read many books about the political history of the Middle East spanning the last 150 years but this is the only book I have read that dealt with how the tremendous changes that have taken place in the last fifty years have deeply and personally impacted the common people. It helped me appreciate how Native Americans relate to the land and what impact the separation from their traditional way of life has had upon their culture. I recommend this book highly to anyone not only interested in the Middle East but to anyone interested in the tremendous changes all traditional cultures are facing into today's rapidly changing world.

This book covers basic but interesting issues of Australian studies. At the same time, this is a good introduction of Aus society. This book is insightful not only researchers but also general readers.
Her way of writing is quite simple but adequate. Although my English is second language, I did not face any difficulty in reading this.
Good companion for studies, commuting etc...

One of the extraordinary charecters among the cartoonist Journalists the world has ever seen, Laxman had a long career of over 40 years bringing the common man of India to the face of millions of Indians who open 'The Times of India'. Each cartoon feature a very alive issue of India - be it the political issue, public figures, social factors or scientific administration. You find his sheer brilliance gives you extraordinary perspective to the ordinary events we all witness day in and day out. If we say that no other Indian cartoonist or journalist have ever understood India and its masses as much as Laxman did, it is more than truth. Because of this he had a wide area to cover from the lives of millions of common Indians. Laxman's cartoons reflect such dramatic moment of an event which will have something before and something after. He present such crucial spot where we can get the whole ambience. The current work has lots of reflections of laxman's genius. A must for all those who believe that we are in a lovable world and we should make it more lovable by looking at issues from a good perspective.

According to Naish and co, we have the opportunity to influence the health outcomes of our prospective children, by improving our own health prior to conception.
If you are struggling to conceive, have suffered miscarriages, have given birth to a child with compromised health, are an older mother or just want to do the best thing by you and your family, then this is the book for you.
They reccommend abstaining from processed food, caffeine, alcohol, recreational drugs, medications (where possible) for three months prior to conception, to allow us to provide the best quality sperm and eggs to make our children. Organic food is recommended, as is vitamin supplimentation (zinc veeeery important for both parents, taking selenium reduces the incidence of down syndrome), wholefood consumption and so on.
They give info about health, exersize, best times to attempt conception, homeopathic and herbalist help, acupressure etc. Tons of good advice.
If you follow their advice you are more likely to produce a robust, easier to manage infant. The benefits of good health management can last for us to 3 generations, so you are also influencing the health of your grandchildren and so on.
i'd reccommmend this book to anyone.

This is an excellent book....To me, loss of vision would be the worst disability to suffer.
Janet lost one eye as a baby due to cancer, and was told she would lose vision in the other eye in the near future. She was put into a blind school (which had a red door) when she was a child, and didn't understand why she was there. She was 33 when she finally lost her other eye - it had finally succumbed to the aggressive radiation that she was given as a child.
Janet was also adopted as a baby, and wanted to find her natural parents to see if the retinoblastoma was hereditary. When she was 18, she met her mother, who said she didn't want anything to do with her. Her father is a high-profile media personality in Australia. He finally accepted Janet as his daughter, and they now keep in regular contact.
This book is about Janet's journey through her childhood, and into adulthood with a vision disability. Worthwhile reading.

I highly recommend this superb illustrated look at the Powerhouse Museum's collection of Central Asian arts and crafts. Included in this large 80-page book are color photographs of rugs, dresses, coats, headcoverings, jewelry, embroidery, architectural drawings, glass pottery, horse covers, bags, Uzbeks, Kazakhs, and Turkmens. The handcrafted items possess a rich treasure-trove of complex geometric forms and designs. The images are accompanied by helpful introductory texts by Christina Sumner and Heleanor Feltham concerning the history and culture of Central Asian peoples and a large map of the Silk Road routes. The selected bibliography lists 22 books and 4 websites where one can explore Central Asian traditions further.

Beyond the Wild Shores catapults us back to a time when women not only had to work hard at the career of their choice but to work hard justifying having a career outside traditional roles. I love Baily Templeton, who is mistakenly hired as a Head Master of the rugged, Out-back colony of Sydney Cove. Her determination and love for teaching soon win the hearts of those she's seeking to reach as well as those that she is not seeking to reach--the handsome Captain Grant Hogan who is reluctantly but irrersistably drawn to her gentle gumption. Wonderfully inspirational. I loved it!
