The collected writings of Nimmo & Vannerson: Pioneers of chiropractic trigger point therapy

a Great Book - long overdue!

Review Date: 2006-05-12
I had the priviledge to study the Nimmo technique under Dr. Laws in her practice. I have copies of many of the original articles reproduced in this book.
Nimmo was certainly ahead of his time in addressing myofascial adhesions as a root of pain, dysfunction, and symptomatology. If you have ever read or studies Travell's work - then you need to see this book.
The biggest problem with this book is that it is not widely available - I have contacted Dr. Laws to get a copy - I strongly recommend you do the same. Every practitioner of manual therapy - chiropractor, osteopath, of massage therapist - should have this text in their library.

Everytime I need information about various topics relating to health or alternative health care, this book has something to offer. I don't know where they got all the different articles. They must come from all over the place, but what a resource! Great text for doctor, student or interested public.

Thank you to Dr Chaitow
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-29
This is a well written and easy to read book. The author presents both the pros and the cons for different theories and techniques in this book. Obviously Dr Chaitow is biased towards the efficacy of cranial manipulation, but that does not stop him from saying very clearly what is known, in doubt and not known without favoring one theorist or practioner over another. I will be purchasing more of the author's work. Thank you again for an informative, well researched and well written book.

An elegant, concise guideline to patient management.
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1999-04-03
As a former student of Dr. Souza's I may be somewhat biased, but this book is essential for any chiropractor, chiropractic student, or other health professional who is interested in patient management from a Chiropractic perspective. The book is exhaustive in its' scope, dealing with most ailments in an anotomic manner. Included are flowcharts which summarize appropriate orthopedic tests for determining the exact cause of each condition, the chiropractic management of the condition, and indications for referral. This book is invaluable in Chiropractic college, and is useful in practice as well, especially when encountering rare and unusual conditions.

Learn from the Mayans
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-01-26
Dr. Hinojosa's book introduces the public to his research on how the Maya people of Guatemala perform practical and ritual healing of the body. Maya bonesetters treat sprains, strains, and fractures, and help restore wholeness to people. Systems of healing like this one, as well as other ones presented in Healing by Hand, predate Western medicine and exist in a precarious relationship with the modern medical world.
Servando Z. Hinojosa is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at University of Texas-Pan American.

Great book
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2000-03-23
Dr brooksby has opened an avenue for people who have downplayed the role of osteopathic physicians to see that DO's are an essential member of the medical community. I couldn't put this book down. Not only is it an easy read but an interesting one. He surrounds technical terminology with so many stories from his personal experience, I almost forgot I was reading a doctors book. A defenite MUST READ.

One Man's Extraordinary Experience
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-01-05
First let me say that I was a patient of the author. He died in a motorcycle accident in Oct '06. His practice was incredible, I've never experienced anything like it. Dr. Brooksby was truly a healer. When he treated someone, he could get tremendous results with what felt like very subtle movements. I recommend this book especially to those in any form of healthcare. If you are open to new ways of looking at health and healing, then you may benefit greatly from the insights in this book. Sometimes the author comes across as a bit arrogant, but he was an extrememly compassionate man. It was one of his gifts to us that he put his experiences into a book. I think you will find here some things that simply have not been written about - or perhaps even talked about much.

Healing Intelligence - Structure and Function
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-14
Tajinder Deoora is a remarkable healer, osteopathic practitioner, naturopath and teacher. Her book reflects all these diverse aspects of her being. It is readable, clear, highly informative and offers a balanced, insightful and inspiring insight in to cranial osteopathy - it is a highly intelligent exploration of cranial osteopathy and its roots. Cranial osteopathy is a discipline at the cutting edge of its own profession (osteopathy) so the reader can imagine what it is in the eyes of some of the more conventional healing modalities. Tajinder Deoora has taken this on, never losing sight of the rational, common sense of structure and function but at the same time having the courage, integrity and sensitivity to take the reader into the more subtle and challenging aspects of healing through this modality in a highly credible and professional manner. It should be required reading for all serious students of the healing arts including orthodox medicine.

Former Mayo Clinic CEO Endorsement
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-12-30
"Dr. Hagen sets a high and informed bar for those of us who, while aware of the benefits of western medicine for intervention in cases of acute illness and trauma, are wary of the risks and limitations involved in a visit to an allopathic physician. 'How to Live to 100 In Spite of Your Doctor' is a message that needs to be delivered to an American public that generally overestimates the benefits and underestimates the risks of allopathic care. As a former member of the Mayo Foundation Board of Trustees and CEO of Mayo/St. Mary's Hospital, I appreciate Dr. Hagen's capacity to provide advice from a natural and alternative perspective. Readers should incorporate his wisdom into their healthcare decisionmaking. It will increase their chances of living to 100."
