Great Book!Review Date: 2005-05-01
It was with great enthsusiasm and excitement that I bought the 4th Edition(1999), hoping for new thoughts and updates, especially in "Diagnositc & Therapeutic Techniques " as the previous edition was 7 years earlier. However, to my surprise, I found little change in this Chapter. I was also a little disappointed by the inferior paper quality of the 4th Edition in comparison to the 3rd Edition. Even though a few more recent referrences were added to the 4th Edition, the core contents of the two editions are about the same. Therefore, my advice to readers is: One is enough, whether it is 3rd or 4th Edition. You need at least one.

As a treatment for spinal problems, spinal stabilization exercise is a solid, evidence-based treatment and quite effective. Also recommemd Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff for both laypeople and medical folk alike- strengthening the rotator cuff does for the shoulder what strengthening the multifidus does for the spine.

A well-written lay perspective on chiropracticReview Date: 1999-08-12
Chiropractic is a highly misunderstood practice. I come across this every day in my practice and also in society. Raquel, like many other chiropractic patients, was able to achieve results that she could not even dream of while under tradional medical (allopathic) care.
I firmly believe that if every person tried chiropractic care before resorting to drugs or surgery, there would be much fewer ill people and people would no longer be so dependent on drugs, even decreasing the necessity of potentially harmful sugeries. Health truly comes from within. This book does a wonderful job of explaining how the body functions and how chiropractic helps to aid the innate recuperative powers within us all.
I encourage you to read this book and find out why millions of people visit their chiropractor on a regular basis. Regardless of what ails you, a little fine-tuning can go a long way....

Wisdom in the body, Michael KernReview Date: 2007-01-06
Wisdom in the body. The Craniosacral approach to Essential Health. Michael Kern
I love this book. It is my all time favorite cranial text book. It is a strait forward introduction to Cranio-sacral work. It reads well, the concepts are in a logical way laid out and discussed. Kern is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. He has a unique gift in translating complex subject matters into easily understandable and digestible language. The illustrations are very clear. You get a sense of the scientific benefits of this form of therapy AND the beauty of it. If there ever was a cranial book that you could read beneficially before bed time, this is it. I recommend this book to all professionals who want to know more about this modality. It will help you decide if you want to study cranial work. It will also give you clear guidance to which of your clients would benefit from this form of therapy. Ursula Popp

7 Solutions... A Must Read For Every Student of Chiropractic Management!Review Date: 2006-12-20
7 Solutions for Building Your Proactive Chiropractic Practice: Proven Success Keys to Anticipate and Solve Problems of Design, Growth and Management by Michael S. Meyer, D.C., Professional Practice Resources, 2004
Whether you are researching the best practice management team to join, best coach to hire or the best accountant to take on board for your chiropractic practice, or if you are just selecting materials to focus and stay positive, 7 Solutions for Building Your Proactive Chiropractic Practice is worth considering.
Doctors of chiropractic and all supportive staff and/or family members constantly reassess service delivery, work goals, health goals, while maintaining a healthy balanced life. We all know that in order to "stay on track", it is important to read inspirational, materials. Being open-minded may allow the reader to extract more their source. However, to be given a text which is both readable and inspirational, is truly a gift. The reader may still work to extract information but the read is more engaging and very much more yielding of rich materials which is succor to daily chiropractic practice.
7 Solutions is really a "handbook" with lines for penciling responses, a smattering of sample "logs" sample certificates, and several sample forms. It's a book that lets you get it all out there on paper so that you can see where it is you are in your daily chiropractic life, guide you from the author's experience and knowledge base and reorient yourself for yourself, your family and your patients. It is the type of format that can be a straight read-through a few pages at a time. However, it's not a "workbook" or a reproduced form of a practice management three-ring binder. There is careful attention to book format, clear concise and well-edited writing.
You may not agree with all of the suggestions. You may have heard many of the variations before, but some of the suggestions will be new gems. There is enough diversity of information within the structured, chiropractically anchored text to keep you working on your own practice for some time.
Some of this is pure practice management. It is the type of material that may make some readers shudder if read out of context. However, the focus on multiple appointment visits, lost appointments being lost income for the doctor, never settle, be happy where you are or move, etc., are all worth considering or at least understanding. This is important, even if only to keep up on how other chiropractic doctors are running their offices. The choice of words, for examples "keep your patients educated, excited, and adjusted" may be "catch phrases" but they are easy to remember.
The author is confident and powerful in his beliefs without being forceful, pedantic or unyielding. " Practicing chiropractic is hard work, requiring a strong sense of purpose, mission, and focus.... nobody can be `on purpose' and focused every minute of every day. But on the whole, the way to be chiropractically strong, and confidant is to design your life and practice around your personal and professional beliefs and values. To do this in an effective way, you must eliminate any conflict between how you run your practice-and live your life-and the deep-seated personal and chiropractic values and beliefs that you hold".
Dr. Meyer offers wisdom and guidance in short subchapters such as Find a Mentor Form a "Master-Mind Alliance", Never Stop Learning-Take Business and Success Seminars, and Learn to Communicate, Learn to Influence. Since you are going to spend a portion of your practice income on management materials, 7 Solutions is a definite text to consider when you are getting the new chiropractic year off to an excellent start!
Dr. Meyer delivers what he proclaims with a focus on "real success" that "comes from a doctor who is dedicated, confident, competent and ethical in his or her practice and personal life".
I would give it 10 out of 10 as a chiropractic management text. It will be of benefit to any doctor of chiropractic.
