It was my good fortune to study under Janet Simms (a foremost authority in Beauty Therapy) who was instrumental in inspiring many students to carry forward their beauty therapy skills in to the workplace; and responsible for passing on all the traditional technical and practical application skills necessary for the modern beauty therapist to become a skilled practitioner. All the very best techniques are covered in this practical guide; with an emphasis on quality of client care and the highest of salon treatments and standards. No level 2 Beauty Therapy student should be without this book. This is a standard text book that will be around for a very long time.

Worth every penny!

Being somewhat new to the art of scent blending, I found this to be particularly useful. There are some really lovely scent blends included with an in-depth aromatherapy guide to each of the 18 essential oils used for the various recipes. Being not so new to handmade skin care I still found this book useful since the author presents typical things like bath salts in not-so-typical ways. The photography is gorgeous and inspiring. When I have absolutley no buyers remorse I give a book 5 stars - this gets 5!

The Scented Garden (Garden Project Workbooks)

Pleasant, unusual workbook for designing scented outdoor spaces
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-06
This unusual workbook is a pleasure to browse, sure to get gardenphiles excited about planning pleasing aromas for their flower beds. Gorgeous photos by Jonathan Buckley entice the reader to plan out projects both alluring and diverse: projects include Herb Path, Scented Wall, Carpet of Thyme, Catmint Walk, Sweet Pea Obelisk and Chamomile Seat. Are you drooling, yet?

Good, clear information instructs the gardener to avoid clashes of scent to make each walk around the garden an "olfactory safari". Bird also advises spreading out the seasonal flowerings so you'll have scents to enjoy each month of the growing season. A plant directory in the back of the book tells you what plants smell the best and provides tips on how to grow them.

Using the fold-out instruction pages, I laid out my own Honeysuckle Porch. It was easier than I thought. By the end of the season I expect my sweet clingy vine to cover my entire patio with leaves, flowers and scent.

Some good tips from the book:

* Place an outdoor seat near your garden displays so you can actually SMELL the fruits of your labor.
* Keep mint well-pruned so it doesn't run rampant (unless you like that)
* fragrant flowers tend to have subdued hues, so mix in colorful annuals with your rosemary and lavender.
* It's possible to make a night-scented border, using white flowers pollinated by moths. Plants in the Nicotania genus are a good start for a dusky garden.
* While "knot gardens" are among the earliest forms of decorative planting, they are also among the most long-lived features in any planned garden. Keep them well-trimmed while they mature.
* You don't have room for a garden at all? Even containers and window boxes can host scented plants. Stick with narcissus, pelargoniums, hyacinths and primulas, in their scented varieties. Culinary herbs work too.

Great book on naturally scenting your home
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2001-08-20
If you are like me and enjoy anything natural in the home, then you will enjoy this book. With this book, you recieve a history of fragrance, you learn how fragrances are extracted, the "aroma groups" fragrances are divided into, suggestions on which fragrances to use in each part of your home, and recipes to get you started. All the ingredients needed are completley natural, (ie tea tree oil, rose petals, lemon, cedar, etc) many you can grow in your own garden. Showcasing photographs worthy of an interior design book, The Scented Home is worth every penny.

wonderful book about aromatic jewelry
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2003-12-27
Annette Green, President Emeritus of The Fragance Foundation and Linda Dyette, a great jewelry and design expert, wrote an extremely interesting and intriguing book about the history perfume as ornamentation. Their gorgeous book is beautifully illustrated and traces the story of perfume as an ornament from early history to the late 1990s. The book shows that while perfume bottles were sometimes collectors' items, aromatic jewelry has reinvented itself according to the fashion of the era: rings, lapel pins, earrings and even whistles have all carried perfume. The book is very well researched and has beautiful illustrations.

"Spa Magic" is aimed at women who wish some stability of body and mind in their everyday being through some of the well tested techniques found in this book. It is required reading in my house. And yes, Tarzan once said that it was a real jungle out there. Still don't let anybody borrow this book. Tell Tarzan to get his own copy unless he plans to give a copy to Jane!

This is yet another book by my favorite author on the subject. It's a very engaging read, filled with information on herbal healing and therapies. Of course, the images are seductive as only relaxation in paradise can be. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves travel, wellness and a bit of escapism.

Someone left a towelette from this line on my desk so I had to research where I could get more. These are very funny products to either give to someone, or keep a really straight face and use them in front of someone else, pretending you think they work.
