The Yogic Meaning of Flowers
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-05-05
Flowers are messengers and teachers from the higher worlds of astral light, beauty and devotion. They reflect the soul's stirrings in physical matter and provide us a window to realms of vision far beyond this mortal travail. Each flower inspires our soul in a certain way and directs us to higher knowledge, experience and realization.
Flowers and Their Messages unfolds the spiritual secrets of many of the world's most important flowers, both of temperate and tropical regions. As a practitioner in the field of yogic and Ayurvedic healing, I find the book particularly helpful for showing us how flowers work on the mind and soul.
The author, Mother Mira of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram was one of the most remarkable women teachers of the twentieth century. No other western woman residing in India has ever received the degree of adulation and respect that she gained, to whom even Indira Gandhi came for guidance. Mother Mira was the spiritual partner of Sri Aurobindo, one of the towering figures of modern India's spiritual renaissance, and carried on his mission through the Sri Aurobindo Ashram that she directed.
The Mother, as she is called, was an accomplished yogini, mystic and occultist. This book reflects not only her understanding of plants but of the psychic realms to which they are connected. It contains drawings, pictures and relevant quotes from Sri Aurobindo. It is not just a book about flowers but shows how flowers symbolize the unfoldment of the Divine consciousness within us. It shows us how to read the Divine language of form and color, not only in flowers but in the unfoldment of our own inner being.

Patricia Kaminski is doing the most incredible healing work with her flower essences. She and her husband Richard Katz started their own flower essence company Flower Essence Society in the late 70s after being inspired by the work of Edward Bach.

Flower essences are truly the medicine of now and the future. Patricia's gentle and loving work on using flower essences is a delight to read, very informative and is a great companion to the Flower Essence Repertory.

This books goes into depth about meta layers of using flower essences, using the essences with layers of the soul, like the onion.

A beautifully written and inspiring book.

This book explains most of the terminology involved in candle-making, as well as explanations of different techniques and step-by-step instructions for getting started. Each style of candle described includes a list of equipment needed and great photographs of the finished product. There is a detailed description for each style of candle and hints on how to overcome more difficult steps. Each style of candle is followed up with the exact making process, including notes on the author's personal experiences and failings (and how to avoid repeating them.) This has been a very enjoyable book. It was also my first candle-making book.

This book has shown me how I can derive the maximum benefit from aromatherapy baths by utilizing multiple diciplines such as meditation, and visualization in conjunction with the bath. I have also learned to demystify the effects of essential oils from the easy to understand explanations of these oils by Ms. Lazzara. She writes in a manner that makes it easy for the lay person to understand and therefore incorporate the multi-discipline approach in the aromatherapy bath. I have clearly derived better results from aromtherapy baths since I began following the suggestions that Ms. Lazzara has provided in her book. Thank you Margo.

The book is set out in aneasy-to-follow manner and is full of wonderful, simple recipes to makewith essential oils. The book covers the issues of health and beautyin a very thorough manner. I have put to the test many of theserecipes and have loved virtually every one of them. This book is mybible of aromatherapy and I am sooooo happy that I managed to purchaseit... even though it is out of print!

At first glance, I thought herbal crafts. What kind of crafts can you make with herbs? This book is so much more. It has great recipes and gift ideas. It's divided into sections such as babies, children, kitchen, etc. Some of the crafts in this book are things that I've seen in boutiques. This is a really great book and totally worth the $15.

This is a great book for learning how to make any kind of herbal remedy, including medicinal wines/vinegars, salves, syrups, skin-care, you name it. They tell you what herbs work best for different health problems, and how to make special blends for immunity (which has always been a problem; I have two young sons, and I always get sick from them, plus I live in Michigan). I could go on and on about all the great stuff in this book, but you'll just have to find out for yourself! I also like the fact that there aren't a lot of exotic ingredients in the recipes; most of the herbs or other ingredients can be found at a health food store or grown in your garden. This book is a great bargain; I found it for less than $5.00 at a local bookstore, but I sure got my moneys worth!
