Hanna Somatics is very beneficial...Review Date: 2008-06-18
Review of the other reviewsReview Date: 2007-12-09
The thing about this sort of book is that it is likely to attract positive reviews. We only see the successes and the failures are forgotten about thus distorting the reviews. Indeed this is a failure of the book itself. As a practitioner of somatics Hanna must have had people he could not help. What was their situation? How long did he work with them? As such the first part of the book which discusses case studies and its philosophical basis cannot be regarded as scientific. We can learn as much from failure as from success.
The only critical review at the time of writing is right to criticise the poor visibility of the skeleton diagrams. Others have criticised its lack of mention of the fact that there are people trained in somatic education. If you decide to take on the program then I advise you to go to someone trained in the movements otherwise you risk doing it wrong and wasting your time or at worst making your problem worse.
Somatics is not an alternative to Pilates or Yoga rather it takes certain aspects of those disciplines and refines them as well as adding some additional ideas not found in either. Pilates is about core stability, yoga is about... well yoga and somatics is about muscle tension. The book also fails to adequately put itself within context of other related disciplines.
Anyway, Somatics is a great discipline. I hope that the next edition works out these criticisms.
Somatics: Reawakending the Mind's control - don't wait for the doctor to order it!Review Date: 2008-03-24
The book is organized as first, a series of case studies, which the author uses to illustrate his theory of muscle amnesia, followed by a series of illustrated exercises with detailed instructions. Anyone reading this book should first read the case studies before doing the exercises.
The author's objective is to help you reacquaint you with parts of your body that you have lost touch with - and therefore lost control of. He believes that much back and body pain is due to involuntary actions of muscle groups that we have forgotten how to control. By doing exercises and focusing on how they feel, we can regain sensation and control of our muscles. We can replace painful involuntary muscle actions with graceful voluntary ones.
All I can say is, the exercises - and theory - helped me, and I do the short version of the exercises most days. The exercises are not strenuous or painful - they are pleasurable and relaxing, leaving you feeling invigorated.

Lyme Awareness Art Project Reviews Bryan Rosner's BooksReview Date: 2008-08-16
The second thing I noticed was the long list of well known and highly respected names in the Lyme world that graced the covers, forwards and inner pages of Bryan's books. Names like James Schaller M.D., Sue Vogan the host of "In short order" radio program, Ginger Savely FNP-C (whom I have had the pleasure of briefly cyber chatting with), Tami Duncan from LIA, Susan Williams Public Health Alert contributor and VP of TXLAD, Richard Loyd, PhD an electrotherapeutic device expert. The pages of Bryan's books are filled with ground breaking discoveries from the top minds in the Lyme disease world.
The third thing I noticed was the large print, which will be a Godsend for those Neuro -Lyme sufferers whose vision has been affected and for those that have trouble reading because of other Lyme issues.
If you or someone you know has advanced Lyme disease and are looking for a supplement to your current treatment protocol or especially if you are looking for alternative treatment options then Bryan's books are well worth reading.

Must have for hope healing Lyme with rife machinesReview Date: 2008-01-19
At that point, I knew that I needed to purchase Rosner's first book for a deeper study of rife machine therapy. Since he recovered from a devastating case of Lyme using rife machines himself, and since he is an eminently-readable author, I trusted his analysis of rife machine technology.
My family and I have not been disappointed. Rosner's Rife Machine book has been our handbook not only for understanding rife machines but also many other supportive measures (especially detoxification of Lyme poisons and by-products) which must be employed if rife is going to work.
As with his other books (The Top Ten Treatments and the 2008 Lyme Disease Annual Report), Brian shines as a true journalist - objective and understandable. He does not minimize the suffering involved in recovering from Lyme (due to the Herxheimer reactions and detoxification regimens), but prepares the reader for them gently and honestly. As with his other books, he does not betray a loyalty to any specific rife manufacturer or Lyme treatment provider of any kind - although he does quickly and efficiently expose the reader to the names of the most reputable rife manufacturers, detoxification experts, etc., which streamlines the research process for very sick people such as myself.
Finally, he provides additional sources of information, many of them on the Internet such as Yahoo discussion boards about rife and other therapies, so that the reader can quickly connect with thousands of other real people with whom to share their woes and discuss viable treatment options. All of this helped me identify which rife machine to buy first in a matter of about 48 hours!
If you wish to find a real, possibly permanent solution to the Lyme infection ravaging your body, please consider the information presented in Bryan's book and also his second book, The Top Ten Treatments for Lyme Disease, which will probably help "close the circle" of complementary therapies to rife.
Please note: I am not a medical professional of any kind. Please consult your regular physician(s) and other health-care providers for information and relief if you believe yourself to have a medical problem of any kind. Also, please consult your regular physician(s) and other health-care provider(s) before attempting any treatment for any medical problem you believe yourself to have, including treatments such as rife machines and those described in Bryan Rosner's books, discussed above.
A treasure house whether you have Lyme or not!Review Date: 2007-10-31
Rosner does a superb job of detailing alternative methods of healing and gives you a light at the end of the tunnel. If not for the information reavealed to me within these pages, I would have probably died of complications due to Lyme and it's co-infections. This is written by someone who has really done significant research and knows what he is talking about. I value every word of Rosner's books and this is another one that I would never be without!

Coming Home to NatureReview Date: 2008-09-05
This book gave me the insights I needed when I was in tremendous pain and fear because of a dental crisis. I hadn't been to a dentist in 20 years, and because of this book, I was able to avoid them long enough to gain the strategic insight so I would not just be another casualty of a society which forgets its origin in Nature. Coming home to Nature has been fulfilling on such a primal level. I feel more of who I am as a physical being on this plane. All my life, I've watched the follies of Western Medicine, along with the good deeds, and have been surprised at the disparities. Diet & Core Beliefs are my first priorities when any physical ailment arises. Addressing them effectively has ALWAYS given me the results I've desired.
Comprehensive, 'tried and tested'.....Review Date: 2008-08-27

When my own daughter began having dental issues, I went on
a mission! Already been down that path, and being very
scarred from the dental experiences I endured, I knew I couldn't
put my child through it. I found Dr. Weston Price's research
and my instincts told me this was it! Ramiel has now written
a book, drawn from Price's findings, but specifically directed at restoring dental health. The result is a very comprehensive
book that lays it all out. He is honest. And the truth is
an incredible eye-opener! The protocol works. Get this book,
especially if you have children.
Old - and precioius - wine in a new bottle.Review Date: 2008-09-22
He has come at his subject with all the doubts, hopes and vulnerabilities of a layman whose inner quest will not allow him to be satisfied with the pathological state of affairs that modern medicine takes to be "normal". It is normal in the truest sense of the word - meaning, the condition of the majority, the mean, the present state of things. But normal is not necessarily natural, and the quest for the natural is clearly what inspired both Weston Price and Rami Nagel.
While there are many ways of providing the essential elements required for the job, Nagel chooses to model his approach on that of Dr. Price, who did decades of detailed study and analysis which few now would care to undertake.
However, other - not incompatible - paths exist, such as the very promising potential of modulating the pH acid-alkaline balance in the bloodstream, a pre-condition which is pivotal in virtually all other and later developments in human physiology. One brief example will do: it is necessary for the salivary pH to be at least 6.5 in order for new enamel to be formed.
Even if all other conditions are ideal, and this is not the case, the desired results may not occur. Ideally, "primal" nutrition would create such a condition, but years - perhaps decades - of extreme imbalance (even on well-intended diets), but experience shows that, at least initially, more aggressive measures may often be needed to rectify the all-important fluid state of the body.
Nagel's book is admirable for its honesty, clarity and inspirational power, and deserves to be taken as the deeply valuable resource which it is, collating hundreds of pages of clinical research and distilling it into user-friendly form for impatient contemporary readers and needers.
The advice in this book really works.Review Date: 2008-09-08
My daughter just started getting her permanent teeth this spring and they don't have any shine to them at all. She is also getting some enamel finally. Hers doesn't have the appearance of lattice, yet. She is just now getting her first vertical lines. If I could capture this, I'd probably just post the pictures online for the whole world to see that dentists are wrong! Everywhere you read online, "enamel does not grow back..." But, it does. I don't think this is just the enamel "like" glassy coating that Rami refers to. I really believe this is actual enamel re-knitting.
My husband is getting improvements in his teeth as well. A couple of his molars appeared to have black decay in them, and the blackness is fading away.
A bonus from this diet, is that I am finally starting to absorb my nutrients. Both myself and my daughter suffer from deficiencies caused by malabsorption. We are both doing better. And the proof for me, besides my teeth healing, is that my prematurely gray hair is reversing. Premature gray hair is caused by a lack of minerals. So, I must be absorbing some finally.
This book shows you how important proper nutrition is, not just for teeth but for all health. The teeth are not just for eating. They are not unnecessary and expendible. They are keys to your health. They can tell you when something is wrong in your body. Dentures can't do that. If you have cavities, or enamel issues, it's not just a "dental" issue. It's a HEALTH issue. And fillings are just a bandaid. You MUST take responsibility and take control of your health. Only YOU can do that. No doctor or dentist can do that for you. It is hard work. Change is not easy, and not always fun. But it is SO WORTH the effort. Not only will you feel better physically because you're getting proper nutrition, you will feel good knowing that YOU did this for yourself. No bandaids, no magic pills.
I also recommend Sally Fallon's, Nourishing Traditions book along with your purchase of Ramiel Nagel's, Cure Tooth Decay. Her book will help you keep with the guidelines that Rami suggests in this book.
I just want to add a thank you to Rami for his hard work and dedication to writing this book.

I am in a high risk cancer group, and had a prophylactic hysterectomy resulting in surgical menopause. Unfortunately I found this book at the library AFTER my surgery. I read the entire book anyway, because I wanted to be fully educated on what I had gone through and what was ahead of me.
I had an excellent surgeon at a teaching hospital, but this book would have been a great resource 6 weeks ago! Kudos to the author, and I hope it gets revised as new HRT treatments and studies are released.

Worthy literature that transcends the genre of political fableReview Date: 2008-06-22
I'm not alone in being of a generation that was first required to read Orwell in my student days (Middle School, in my case.) It seems that there was a lot of literature churned out then, accessible to if not directly aimed at children, with the horrors of totalitarianism as its theme. In addition to reading Orwell, we were also reading Huxley, Bradbury, and Verne -- the youth-oriented John Christopher books being yet another example. The generation that lived through Nazism and Stalinism clearly wanted the younger set to be aware of the horrors that could be, and to remain on guard against them.
It doesn't seem to be quite that way anymore. Orwell's name is invoked today, but often in trivializing contexts: "Big Brother" is now a brain-numbing reality show, and "Orwellian" is a convenient and often hysterically-applied charge to political opponents. Some complaceny does seem to be inevitable: we are now further removed from the days when the likes of Hitler and Stalin killed tens of millions. Still, regimes arise that are nearly as horrific on a local scale, from Pol Pot to Saddam Hussein to the Taliban, and are real enough that Orwell's book is no joke. Orwell deserves attention if for no other reason than to sensitize us to the bad form associated with invoking his name in a trivializing context. There was a political ad on Youtube last year from an Obama supporter that cast Hillary Clinton on a giant Big Brother-like screen. I'm not in the least a fan of Senator Clinton, but associating her image with those of 1984 -- as was also done in an infamous Apple Computer ad -- trivializes Orwell's message in a deplorable way. Orwell wrote his novel to warn against real dangers that his generation lived through, and which others might yet, not as a marketing ploy to be used in selling either computers or nearly indistinguishable democratic political candidacies.
The main reason I am writing this review, however, is that re-reading Orwell in my 40's is a stark reminder that his novels are more than political parables, but are worthy literature. I hope that those reading these reviews will be aware of this, and not shut their minds to a rewarding literary experience.
As a kid, I was able to perceive the pedagogical intent of these books, but less so was I able to appreciate the literary artistry. 1984 in particular passes the Nabokovian test of creating a fully believable, if terrifying, alternate world. Beyond that, on nearly every page, Orwell leaves an image that just might stay with you forever. Small wonder that so many of the terms in 1984 ("Big Brother," "Newspeak") have burrowed their way into our lexicography.
Orwell was a man of the left who understood something that many of his compatriots did not; that what had arisen in the Soviet Union was a regime unprecedented in its horror (arriving before, and ultimately outlasting, its horrific mirror image, Hitler's Third Reich.) At a time when others on the left simply refused to believe in the reality of the USSR, he looked at it unflinchingly and wrote what it was really about.
Also, in childhood, I was not able to fully appreciate that Orwell's books simply weren't negative-utopian nightmare-fantasies, but paralleled actual events in the USSR with chilling accuracy. I knew, at some level, that he was satirizing certain events and characters in the Russian Revolution, but only in adulthood was I able to closely recognize nearly every episode and character in Animal Farm. Those familiar with USSR history will find it all here in the two books: the rewriting of the past to reaffirm the infallibility of the Party, the sudden reorienting of national propaganda to suit the latest twist of foreign policy, and the complete elimination of all references to those unfortunate souls decreed never to have existed.
Truly, the thing that makes 1984 terrifying now, is not what was imagined in the novel's construction, but what was real in its sources. It exaggerates even relative to the Stalinist state -- but not by much. It is this recognition that makes it a chilling read today.
1984 is the more vivid and evocative of the two novels. Excepting one passage (Goldstein's dreary history lesson about 2/3 of the way through) it is riveting almost throughout its 300 pages.
A few notes for younger readers: The moral of Animal Farm is not that Napoleon was simply a bad apple, but rather that the system adopted by the Animals ensured that ultimately such a tyrant would dominate. (I find the end of Animal Farm to be something of a false note; in the end the pigs prove no better than, and resemble, the humans they replaced, but this understates the tragic reality that the USSR was worse still than that which it replaced.)
As I close, I leave you with one random question about 1984: how come it never occurs to Eastasia and Eurasia to combine against Oeania? Given that Oceania keeps flipping its allegiance from one to the other, you'd think they'd ultimately catch on and both decide to attack Oceania at the same time.
Silly questions aside, this book is highly commended. Worth re-reading again, especially if you only have read Orwell when as immature as was I.

Don't listen to the negativity being thrown around by some about either Beth Shaw or her program. Shaw has built a program of real Yoga for ordinary people seeking to start down the path of Yoga. Yes, her program attempts to simplify Yoga by removing Sanskrit and chanting -- but that doesn't mean her variety of Yoga is any less authentic. I see it as no different from what other Yoga instructors have done around the country by using English translations of poses and focusing on communication of the health and energetic benefits of Yoga poses.
And, by the way, YogaFit teachers do train in the esoteric aspects of Yoga (meditation, Chakras, philosophy, ancient texts and Sanskrit) when they participate in Shaw's Yoga Alliance approved program.
Shaw has built quite a following, with people traveling all over the country to take classes with her. Her style is simple, elegant and easy to understand, just like this book!

I found the principles of this book to be very intuitive and in line with what I believe to be true. I personally did not feel that my weight problem and lack of health was something that could or should be "cured" by pills, medical procedures, and doctors - I was looking for common-sense solutions.
