Chinese Qigong Therapy
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-05
Qigong, one of the legacies in the treasure-house of Chinese medicine, has a history of three thousand years. It is an effective means of medical treatment as well as health protection with distinctive national features. It plays an active role in preventing and treating diseases, protecting and strengthening health, resisting premature senility and prolonging life. Particularly, it has unique effects in treating chronic and difficult diseases. That is why in ancient times Qigong was called "the method to eliminate diseases and prolong life". Self-controlled Qigong therapy is a method to control the body's function through Qigong practice and keep it under a stabilized appropriate state which is most favourable to overcoming the body's diseases. Qigong practice depends greatly on the practitioner's subjective initiative. It lays stress on viewing the various parts of the human body as a whole, emphasizing the inner factors, taking both motion and quiescence into consideration, making the diagnosis and giving treatment on the basis of an overall analysis of the illness and of the patient's condition. It also emphasizes: organically combining mental daoyin, postural daoyin, and breathing daoyin, proceeding from the easy to the difficult and from the exterior to the interior, progressing step by step in an orderly way and practicing assiduously and perseveringly so as to achieve the goal of training and fostering Qi, promoting the flow of internal Qi, maintaining a balance between yin and yang, dredging the channels and collaterals, regulating Qi and blood, treating diseases and protecting health, strengthening the body and prolonging life....

This book introduces to the readers the writer's rich experience in Qigong practice by explaining to them the theory of self-controlled Qigong practice, the five basic Qigong patterns, the cancer-treating Qigong pattern, the hypertension-treating Qigong pattern, the massaging Qigong pattern, and some specific deviation-rectifying methods. To help the readers "suit the remedy to the case", some prescriptions for and case studies of some common diseases are arranged at the end of the book. Most of the cases reflect the writer's own experience in Qigong practice.

This book is a great way to get introduced to Chinese medicine. It's able to cover a lot of ground yet not being too vague or general. Usually books like this tend to be too techincal, but I found it surprisingly accessible. Definitely a great starting place if you want to learn about chinese medicine.

Controversial Kung Fu
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-10
This style was as radical for its time as Bruce Lee's effort later. Da Cheng Chuan (Great Achievement Boxing) is an earlier name for what is mostly called Yi Quan (Intent Boxing) now, a derivative of Xing Yi Kung Fu. This was a radical departure and an attempt at modernization during a rough time in Chinese history. Da Cheng abandons many classical Kung Fu practices such as forms. However it deepens the involvement in other traditional methods such as "standing practice" where the practitioner takes various postures to develop power. Fighting and healing skills are developed. A truly interesting system with detractors and proponents.

Excellent DVD for Revitalizing Your Energy!

John P. Milton has given us a wonderful set of DVDs' on life energy (Qi or Chi) cultivation. This DVD on "Qi Strength" is part of a three DVD Series on "Qi Gong for Long Life." Mr. Milton's presentation in all three DVDs is clear, detailed and inspired. He emphasizes practicing Qi gong in nature to deepen it's healing and energy-transforming effects. All three DVDs are professionally and beautifully directed and produced; all are based in a remote mountain wilderness in southern Arizona. John Milton teaches a comprehensive, week-long class in energy cultivation against the backdrop of the beautiful Chiricahua Mountains. His teaching also focuses on the union of inner and outer nature to build powerful qi strength; his creative instruction also shows us how to develop Taoist internal alchemy and meditation - teachings that are rare to find. Each of the DVD's includes a very useful set of water-resistant cards with photographs illustrating each qi gong taught on the DVDs. On the back of each card are written key points for the effective practice of every qi gong form. I give my highest recommendation to this DVD and the other two in the"Qi Gong for Long Life" series.

Dynamic Healing

Review Date: 2005-04-20
Dynamics of Qigong Healing presents a system of releasing negative "karma" through relaxed movement sequences that are said to allow elimination of harmful dense or heavy retained energy mainly via the arm and leg meridians, restoring free flow and balancing of energy. This in turn permits the body's natural innate healing to occur, lessening or eliminating current diseases and heading off potential diseases that might manifest in the future. The set of movements is referred to as the hexagram (6-sided figure) dance, although the illustrated figure is an octagon (8-sided). Several additional releasing movements are also illustrated. The explanation and detailed illustration of how to perform the movements is reasonably laid out and easy to understand. A VHS video of the movements is also available separately. I attended a one-day workshop presented by Chok C. Hiew, PhD and personally experienced the effects that the movements have in releasing tension. He recommends that three sets of the movements be performed daily. With continued persistent use, these are said to be capable of slowly dissolving layers of traumatically trapped dense energy. I have noted brief moderate improvement after each set of movements, with the beginnings of more general improvement with longer-standing use. It is said to take months or several years of practice to obtain optimal benefits. To work, this process has to become a long-term or lifelong routine rather than a fad that is started and then dropped to run after the next fad. In summary, I strongly recommend this book to those who seek a simple, yet effective, means of releasing trapped dense energy which allows restoration of health and who also have sufficient commitment and self-discipline and follow-through to persist long enough to benefit.

This book contains an authentic transmission of seated '8 pieces of brocade' qigong with complete instructions for opening the microcosmic orbit.
It contains a very good translation of Chinese texts and useful commentary by the author.
Please note that no book can replace a teacher, but it can serve as a good supplementary material.

Very recommended!!!

Great book for a busy lifestyle
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 9 total.
Review Date: 2002-12-22
I was very depressed over the past two years and didn't know what to do. Also, my weight problem went over the roof, I went from 109 lbs to over 140 lbs in half year. I bought this book because a friend of mine has taken Master Bai Yin's class in Germnany before and she recommended that I gave it a try. I followed the book and practiced for three months, and now my weight dropped down to 114 lbs and I feel great about myself. I didn't know anything about Natrual healing therapy before and didn't believe in it either, but this time I have to say that it really works. The great thing about this exercise is that it doesn't take much of your time. I usually practice 5 to 10 minutes a day, and feel all energetic afterwards. So I recommend that this is a great book for anyone with a busy lifestyle.
