A beautifully written ode to fly fishing and nature

Camuto takes the reader through one year of fly fishing in the Blue Ridge Mountains, delving into the changes he observes in his streams. The book contains much that is of practical use to fly fisherman, such as the timing of hatches, etc, but its real strength lies in the beauty with which Camuto describes his surroundings. He is a true naturalist in that he actually participates in that which he describes, unlike so many who only observe. I have camped in his Blue Ridge and fished his streams, and I must say that my time spent there has been enriched by his thoughtful commentary. I highly recommend this book for naturalists and fly fisherman alike.

With summer here, it's great to have so many ideas on keeping the kids entertained in Atlanta. This is a fun, practical guide for parents with all kinds of helpful info like kid-friendly food near every attaction. No other travel guide has so many cool, off-the-beaten-path attractions specifically aimed toward parents and kids.

Best of three Atlanta tour books I bought

Food is important to me - and this book has a great selection of restaurants in the first section. (No long and boring descriptions of Atlanta's history here!) The restaurants are organized by food type. However if you looking for one by name or by neighborhood, the index at the back is quick and easy. The restaurants I have visited consistently have had a good quality/price ratio.

The nice map section at the front of the book is a major feature of the book:
Positives:
- right at the front
- high amount of detail in the city center (where I live)
- easy to quickly find what I'm looking for using the map index number at the start of every attraction

Negative:
- the master map of the Atlanta area does not show boxes for the smaller more detailed maps! Therefore if I am on page 8 and am trying to get to a location on page 12, it is very difficult to determine how far it is, or even which direction to go.

an excellent guide to atlanta

I have used several other guide books on Atlanta, but this was by far the best one. It was concise, yet still provided all the necessary information. It doesn't get bogged down like many guide books. Because it's small, it's easier to carry around while you're traveling. Plus, there's a map that is coordinated with the guide book and clearly marks all the must-see sites. I found myself using that map more than ordinary driving maps because it was so much more easier to navigate. I only wish citypack was available in more cities.

This is a superb memoir of the Civil War. First published in the 1890's like so many other memoirs it differs in that the author is writing from his dairy. While other memoirs from the period seem nostalgic and full of bravado Andrews tells it like it was, with few tangential passages to muddy the flow of his narrative. The matter of fact recounting of this soldier's life is a melody of endless boredom in camp, child-like wonder at a world he otherwise would not have seen, heartrending pathos and sometimes side-splitting humor. A modern editor's footnotes correct Andrews sometimes mistaken beliefs regarding large-scale events and historical details and add addition context for the narrative. This is a great book, both for the Civil War scholar and the casual reader.

I am a senior studying elementary education at the University of Florida. I practically used this wonderful book as my bible for methods and strategies of how to teach poetry to young and/or reluctant students.
This book is a clear and concise journey of how to "prepare the soil" and get children writing poetry! The book includes extensive examples of student writing and is highly recommended to anyone teaching (or who is planning to teach) a language arts curriculum, students, and even parents who want to encourage the writing of their children.

I love Savannah. This book just makes me enjoy it more. If there were really a Gravesend Inn in Savannah, I'd ask my parents to let me stay there!
