Maine Books

This book was very useful. However, it doesn't cover each state in depth, so if you are just visiting one state, you might look for a more comprehensive guide for that state.

FODOR'S MAINE, VERMONT, NEW HAMPSHIRE, 10TH EDITION is a great book about New England's northern section. In addition to where the best lodging, shopping, and dining are, it also describes plenty of outdoor activity ideas for anyone trying to look good for their significant other and/or their favorite celebrity. If any of those things are important to you, you need this book.

Just returned from Nova Scotia and PEI - couldn't have done it without Fodor's to guide me. Found it particularly helpful for accomodations and dining. It would have helped to have a better idea how long the town-to-town trips take by car. While some roads are highways, others are more rugged and 60 miles can take 2 hours (without stopping to sightsee). But this is a minor complaint and overall this guide was excellent (so was the trip!)

Full of brightly colored metaphorical snapshots of history, "Folk Art in Maine" is enlightening and educating to view. A top pick for community library art collections.

Tom Seymour, acclaimed as a naturalist from the State of Maine, has written a fascinating survey of nature's bounty. This book is highly recommended to readers with an interest in ecology and the world of nature. The author supplies much hard to find information concerning nature's many hidden treasures: edible plants, medicinal plants, and the like. The book features superb color plates, cross-referencing, and a writing style that says "keep reading...."

This cookbook is a collection of wonderful recipes using unique combinations of vegetables, fruits, fresh herbs, seafood, chicken and meats. There are side salads, dinner salads, dressings,spreads and desserts. Also included are recipes for flavored oils, vinegars,seasoning combinations, etc. Anyone who enjoys interesting combinations of ingredients and flavors, will enjoys this book.

Keefer has gone to a great deal of work in publishing this work. It is a little known history of world war II. He has interviewed many of the men and women that served in the CAP during the war. It is evident that they gave their all in this important time in our nations history. I would recommend it as easy and interesting to read.

Another beautiful collection of poetry from Ken Nye. He shares his thoughts, memories and love of family with maturity and wisdome. Ken Nye writes with powerful images allowing the reader to fully experience his poems.

A reader from Newburyport: This was both a fun and a great learning book.This book presents interesting, sometimes obscure facts about Maine. Subjects covered include historical figures, legends, geography, wildlife, stories, and other little known facts about the state. You can learn a lot by reading it and another interesting feature is that the book is designed so that you can also use the book to play a family or group trivia game! A great book for adults, young readers, or teachers.

My kids can't wait for the next sories. They just happen to be around the right ages. They seem to relate to Garth and Elizabeth. I love the stories because they have such subtle messages but they are picked up on by the kids. Somewhere somehow the book deals with kids things that are on their level.
I never have to worry about them reading something too weird, and there are always thought provoking situations that we can discuss.
