Impressive Peaks!Review Date: 2003-12-16
This calendar has some impressive photographs. The view of Ellingwood and Blanca seen from the Little Bear ridge conveys the feeling of the stark massiveness of the rock. The Wetterhorn haloed by a triple rainbow at sunset is quite unusual. However, I could not find an identification of the cover photo. (Todd Caudle has sent me a note saying that it is Snowmass Mountain.) I recommend this calendar for anyone who is a fourteener fanatic or who likes mountain photographs.

The Colorado Trail - A Comprehensive GuideReview Date: 2000-10-29
The introductory chapter gives a complete history of the Trail and how it was developed. Jacobs also gives backcountry guidelines and precautions for novice hikers, a suggested packing list and a geological description of the trail.
For those mainly interested in the "technical" aspect of the Colorado Trail, Jacobs has all the bases covered. The book is broken down into sections of the Colorado Trail that are manageable and accessible for day-hikers and provide comfortable stopping and restocking points for through-hikers. Each section of the Trail is labeled with a starting point, an ending point, mileage for the section and total elevation gain. Jacobs also includes elevation gain and loss charts.
Following are detailed descriptions of the trail, access points, and supply and service accomodations. At the end of each section Jacobs has included a blank section for trail notes the Official Colorado Trail Topographic Maps with mileage and measurements.
In addition to all these features, the book includes the spectacular photos of John Fielder to enhance the text. Jacobs also added complete information for mountain biking the Trail, showing bike detours and alternate routes.
One of the extra details that sets this book apart from other guidebooks is the inclusion of Gudy Gaskill's Colorado Trail highlights and pitfalls. As the driving force behind the development of the Trail, Gaskill's insights are invaluable for any hiker on the Trail.
Overall this book is well-designed and makes planning a trek on the Colorado Trail, whether a day trip or a through hike, simple.

1878 Colorado
COLORADO JEWEL is a sparkling read!
Beautiful and lively Magheen Fitzgerald never dreamed she'd someday leave her native Ireland for the shores of America and to the mountain splendors of Leadville, Colorado. She was in search of her brother, Father Patrick Fitzgerald with hopes of making a fortune in mining to help her other brothers purchase freedom from Australian penal colonies. But when the stagecoach she was traveling in overturned near Leadville, her fate was sealed in losing her heart to her rescuer, handsome and wealthy lawyer-turned-mine owner, Daniel Calcord. As he nursed Magheen back to health in a remote cabin, Daniel lost his heart and head to the wild Irish beauty. It was only a matter of time before they found themselves wed and trying to make it work.
Very Enjoyable!
